FamilyMan Marries His Stepmother In Front Of His Dad (pictures) by ejlee(op): 12:35pm On Oct 06, 2014
A man in France has married his father's former wife, after a court battle that lasted for months.
The wedding of Eric Holder, 45, and his former stepmother Elisabeth Lorentz, 48, took place in the north-eastern village of Dabo, near the city of Metz.
The ex-husband of the bride, Mr Holder's father, was also reportedly among dozens of guests at the ceremony.
French law bans all unions between stepchildren and stepparents. But a court ruled in the couple's favour.
The prosecutor's office opposed the decision by the local court in the Lorraine region, but decided not to appeal.
The couple had earlier argued their case all the way to the office of President Francois Hollande - only to get a letter confirming that such marriages were prohibited.
After the local court's decision, Ms Lorentz said: "At last, it's the big day!"
"I simply hope that our story will be useful other couples in our situation, because I know there are some," she told AFP news agency.
And she added that her former husband "has always supported us" in the legal battle.

Christianity Etc67 South Africans Died In Synagogue Building Collapse –zuma by ejlee(op): 10:18am On Sep 17, 2014
Sixty-seven South Africans have been killed and scores injured in the collapse of a building in the compound of a Lagos Pentecostal church last week, South Africa's President Jacob Zuma said.
"This is a particularly difficult time for South Africa. Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large
number of our people die in one incident outside the country," Zuma said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones."
The guest house, under construction in the compound belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations, headed by
"Prophet" T B Joshua, collapsed on Friday while three extra stories were being added to its existing two floors.
Local emergency services put the total number killed in the collapse in the Ikotun neighbourhood of Lagos at 61 on Tuesday.
There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy in the numbers.
Clayson Monyela, South Africa's head of Public Diplomacy, said over twitter that numbers took time to emerge because the team in Nigeria were not getting the the cooperation they needed.
Monyela also said the death toll could rise.
South African Department of International Relations spokesman Nelson Kgwete said in a statement on Monday that "at
least five South African church tour groups were at the Synagogue at the time of the collapse".
Another 131 people who had been in the building survived, said Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in the southwest.
Representatives of the church could not immediately be reached for comment.
TB Joshua's church draws thousands of followers from all over Africa and many other parts of the world, attracted by
claims that he and his inner circle have special healing powers, including cures for normally incurable ailments including
HIV/AIDS and chronic kidney disease.

Despite the collapsed building Tb joshua still talk strength to his followers on Facebook, let hear him:
To withstand hard times, stand with Christ. When you face trials, hard times, you can ‘count it all joy’ if you add faith (James 1:2-3). It is through hard times that you gain the necessary experience and maturity to handle whatever responsibility given you. We are most likely to go astray from God and forget Him when things are easy with us in the world because we often become proud and stupid with wealth and pleasure. God visits His people with hard times that they may learn His way. His ways, though hard to the ungodly men, are desirable and profitable because they lead us to safety unto eternal life.
2 Chronicles 12:5-8 - God allowed the enemy to overcome Israel so that they may learn the difference between serving God and serving the devil. If not for our hard times, we would not have sought the face of God. I mean, if not because of hard times, man by his wicked nature would not have sought the face of God. This means, God sometimes uses hard times to draw us to Himself so that we can take our proper position and possession in Him.

You will Recall...
* that on Friday News Break in that TB Joshua, one of Nigeria's best known preachers Six-storey guesthouse building for members of the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed
Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said 42 people were killed in Friday’s incident, while 130 escaped or were pulled out alive from the rubble.

What Caused the collapsed Building....
* Nigerian preacher and televangelist TB Joshua on Sunday linked a deadly building collapse at his Lagos megachurch to a suspicious aircraft but rescue workers ruled out the theory of foul play.

Tb Joshua Explain further...
"It was Friday, as I was praying; they came to call me that there was an airplane hovering over the church. They said it is like it wanted to land," his statement said.
He said about 30 minutes later, it came over the building several times.
"About five minutes after, the building came down."

But...
* NEMA’s southwest coordinator Ibrahim Farinloye rejected claims of sabotage and said extra floors were being added to the building without changing the foundations.
“If it were an act of terrorism or sabotage, it would have gone into rubble,” he told AFP at the scene.
Building collapses are common in Nigeria because of the use of sub-standard material and flouting of construction regulations.
NEMA rescue workers were only able to access the site properly at 9:00 am on Sunday and the emergency services and media had previously complained of being attacked by church security.
The Lagos state building control agency also complained that its officials were obstructed and Farinloye indicated more lives could have been saved had rescuers been able to get to the building sooner.
Rescuers wearing protective facemasks and boots used excavators to remove slabs of flattened concrete and were hunting for anyone still trapped under the wreckage of twisted metal and masonry.

Death toll jump...
* The death toll from a collapsed guesthouse at a mega-church in Nigeria's financial capital Lagos hit 57 on Tuesday, rescuers said, as they held out hopes that more survivors would be found.

on tuesday....
* Eight bodies were pulled overnight from the rubble of a collapsed guesthouse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos' Ikotun neighbourhood, Ibrahim Farinloye, southwest coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told AFP by text message.
Farinloye said rescuers extracted a woman alive from the building's rubble on Tuesday morning.
She was able to walk away from the collapse with just a broken wrist. The discovery prompted rescuers to slow down their digging in the wreckage of the guesthouse.
"It's going to be slower because we believe we can recover more people alive by the grace of God," Farinloye said, adding that rescuers were focusing on the area around the hostel's restaurant, where previous survivors have been found.

God is wise...
* God can not give you answers for the test he will give u' my good people of Nigeria Let us pray for the repose of the souls that lost their lives and those still hospitalised God will heal them perfectly

Nairaland GeneralUpdate: Lesotho's Public Service Minister Says He Is Acting PM After Coup by ejlee(op): 11:12am On Sep 01, 2014
Lesotho's minister of public service, Motloheloa Phooko, told AFP on Monday (Sep 1) that he was the country's acting prime minister, after the elected premier fled the country amid an apparent coup.

In Addition...
* the minister told AFP on Monday (Sep 1) that he was the country's acting prime minister, after the elected premier fled the country amid an apparent coup.
"I am acting prime minister," the minister said from Maseru, citing "cabinet protocol" for his appointment while the prime minister and deputy prime minister are in South Africa.

Why the Crisis...
* Tensions have besieged the small mountainous kingdom since early last year. In June this year Thabane suspended parliament after opposition groups pushed for a vote of no-confidence in him.

Timeline....
* On Saturday, the Lesotho Defence Force took over the radio and TV stations, resulting in a total black out in broadcast. The army had also taken over several police stations, including the police headquarters in an apparent coup d’état, although no one has claimed to have taken over the kingdom by force.

Where is the Prime Minister...
* According to reports in the media Thabane and Deputy Prime Minister Mothejoa Metsing are presently in South Africa. Thabane said he would not return to Lesotho while he still fears for his life.
“I have been removed from control not by the people but by the armed forces, and that is illegal,” Thabane reportedly said.
“I will return as soon as my life is not in danger… I will not go back to Lesotho to get killed.

South Africa Involvement....
* Speculation has been rife regarding the SA national Defence Force’s (SANDF) involvement in the crisis after the ‘Sunday Times’ published a story headlined “SA Special Forces Foil Lesotho Coup”. The article reported that SANDF troops entered Lesotho on Friday and helped Lesotho Prime Minister Tom Thabane flee to South Africa in a pre-dawn raid on Saturday

Meanwhile...
* High-level talks will continue in Pretoria on Monday to try to end the political crisis in Lesotho.
Foreign ministers of several Southern African Development Community (SADC) states met in Pretoria on Sunday night to discuss a reported coup in the Lesotho capital of Maseru.
International relations spokesperson Clayson Monyela says President Jacob Zuma called the meeting in his capacity as chair of SADC’s organ on politics and defence.

HealthVietnam Releases Two Nigerians Isolated For Ebola Tests by ejlee(op): 9:53am On Aug 21, 2014
Vietnam has released two Nigerians isolated after arriving from west Africa with fevers, saying they show no symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus.
Ebola test results for the pair are not yet known but the health ministry said their condition had improved.
"After 24 hours of monitoring, the two patients were without fever, showing no abnormal signs or symptoms related to Ebola," it said in a statement released late Wednesday.
The two men will be put under "community surveillance" for three weeks from the date they left the affected area, the ministry said.
Airline passengers sitting next to the pair -- who travelled to Vietnam on Monday from Nigeria via Qatar -- have also been advised to monitor their health conditions.
Vietnam has introduced mandatory temperature checks at its two major international airports in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in a bid to prevent passengers bringing the deadly virus into the country.
According to the World Health Organisation, the latest official toll from Ebola has jumped 106 in two days to 1,350 dead, with the bulk of cases in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
In Myanmar a local man is still undergoing tests after arriving from Guinea with a fever.

PoliticsWhy I Dumped APC – Ribadu by ejlee(op): 3:12pm On Aug 19, 2014
The pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has partly broken his silence on his defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the step he took was in the pursuit of a “good cause”.
The 2011 presidential flagbearer of the Action Congress of Nigeria, a party which merged with other opposition political parties to form the APC, made his first comment on the defection to the PDP early hours of Tuesday
He promised to give details of his next political steps “in due time” but added that his decision to join the PDP was not borne out of selfish interests as being portrayed in some quarters.
He said, “As for my next step in this political struggle, this would be made known in due time. For now, I wish to assure you that my defection is in pursuit of a good cause, and never out of any selfish interests as portrayed by a section.
“Thanks for bearing with me on this decision, and for those who have been in solidarity with my struggles and still giving me the benefits of the doubt, I’m most grateful. I’ll never let you down on this new path.”
Ribadu formally joined the PDP on Saturday, and on Monday he picked the PDP’s Expression of Interest form to run for the forthcoming Adamawa State governorship bye-election slated for October 11.
Though he did not mention it in his Facebook post, the ex-EFCC boss is believed to have left the APC because he felt it would be impossible for him to realise his governorship ambition on the platform of the APC.
He is also said to be habouring many unresolved grievances against the leadership of the APC, who he believed failed to compensate him for his sacrifices for the party.
Parts of such sacrifices, according to sources in his political camp, were his roles in wooing some PDP governors to the APC and his readiness to sacrifice his presidential ambition for the progress of the party.
He is also said to have felt sidelined by the party, which sources close to him, said was no longer inviting him to key meetings at both state and national levels.
All the candidates he also backed for the state and national offices of the party were also said to have been dropped.

In addition...
* he was said to have been disappointed that the APC failed to mobilise sufficient support to block the impeachment of the former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, whose stay in office till 2015 he considered critical to his chances of winning the governorship election in 2015.
But in his Tuesday’s Facebook post, which he addressed to his friends, Ribadu maintained that his defection to join the PDP was taken after careful consideration and was not done to hurt anybody’s feelings.
He was apparently forced to make his first comment on the defection in order to debunk statements credited to him as “disparaging” APC and its members, including Governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano).
He denied making such statements.
Ribadu said, “I know how difficult it may be for you to come to terms with my defection to another party. But I must assure you that it’s a carefully considered decision for which I do not wish to hurt anyone’s feeling. I’ll not embark on a needless animosity with my good friends, irrespective of political, religious, regional and ethnic affiliations.
“Let me quickly make it known that I did not issue a statement disparaging APC and its members, including Governors Amaechi, Kwankwaso… These were clearly fabricated, expected backlash, by mischievous characters interested in misleading the public and drawing a picture of non-existent feuds between me and my good friends.
“My defection shouldn’t be seen as an initiation of political antagonism with my good friends in another party. I still hold them in high esteem, and even where there are marked differences, I believe there are decorous and honorable ways of resolving them. So, kindly disregard any statement said to be by me attacking the personality of any politician since my defection. I’ll never allow myself to be drawn into such disrespectful exchange.”

In a related development...
* As the deadline for the collection and submission of the governorship forms for the Adamawa state governorship election (Aug 20) nears, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former military administrator of Lagos state, Buba Marwa, son of the immediate chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Awwal Tukur have collected the party’s governorship form slated for October 11.
Others that have paid the mandatory fee of N10 million and N1 million Expression of Interest form include the former Minister of state (Health), Dr. Idi Hong, acting governor, Umar Fintiri, former Political Adviser to the president, Ahmed Gulak and former Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Ahmed Moddibo.
Ribadu who picked his governorship form through his political associate, Hammidu Mahmud at the national secretariat of the PDP told newsmen that he is not aware President Goodluck Jonathan has anointed Ribadu as the PDP governorship candidate.

HealthNigeria Woman Suspected Of Ebola Infection On Abu Dhabi Flight Died Of Cancer by ejlee(op): 2:54pm On Aug 19, 2014
Etihad Airways has disinfected one of its planes as a precautionary measure after the health officials said a Nigerian passenger who died after flying into Abu Dhabi may have been infected with the Ebola virus.
“Haad [Health Authority Abu Dhabi] said that although she displayed symptoms consistent with an Ebola viral infection, her existing medical condition provided an adequate medical explanation for her death, and the UAE Ministry of Health stated that there is no risk to the community, fellow passengers or airport staff as a result of this incident,” a spokesman for the airline said on Tuesday.
“However, the health and safety of its passengers is a priority for Etihad Airways and, as part of the standard safety and precautionary measures prescribed by IATA [International Air Transportation Association] for cases involving infectious diseases, the plane has been disinfected and the deceased woman’s spouse has been placed under observation pending the result of the test. He is well with no symptoms.”
On Sunday, Haad said the 35-year- old woman was travelling from Nigeria to India for treatment of advanced metastatic cancer. At the time of resuscitation she had shown signs that may be consistent with Ebola virus infection.
Nigeria is one of many West African countries battling to contain the virus that, as of last week, had killed 961 people, according to the World Health Organisation.
“Full safety and precautionary measures have been taken by the medical staff who attended the patient according to the World Health Organisation standards for dealing with suspected cases of infectious diseases,” the Haad statementsaid on Sunday.
“In addition, all contacts of the patient [her husband, who was the only person sitting next to her on the plane, and five medics who resuscitated her] are in isolation pending the result of Ebola testing on the patient. They are all well with no symptoms.”
The Ministry of Health assured the public that there is no risk to the community, to fellow passengers on the plane from Nigeria and those in the airport, reported state news agency Wam.
Last week, Etihad Airways said it was closely monitoring the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. It continues to operate its daily flights to and from Nigeria and is in contact with medical authorities in the region and around the world regarding the potential risks.

KLEINBASS: Robert Mugabe has said Jacob Zuma should cooperate with other SADC countries instead of trying to turn the region into a market for SA's products.
Robert Mugabe has said Jacob Zuma should cooperate with other SADC countries instead of trying to turn the region into a market for SA's products. (AFP)
South African President Jacob Zuma and Namibian President Hifikepuye Pohamba declined to sign the Protocol on Trade in Services at the close of the SADC summit in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on Sunday despite regional heads putting pressure on them during deliberations.

Zuma, elected chairperson of the SADC troika on politics, defence and security during the summit, was immediately criticised by SADC chairperson President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe.

Mugabe said Zuma should cooperate with other countries instead of seeking to turn the region into a market for South Africa’s products.

SADC members signed the protocol in August 2012, but South Africa and Namibia requested more time to consider. The protocol sets out general obligations for all state parties with regard to the treatment of services and service suppliers from other countries. It does not contain liberalisation obligations, but provides for a mandate to progressively negotiate removal of barriers to the free movement of services.

During the closing ceremony, the master of ceremony announced that Namibia and South Africa would sign the protocol but when SADC secretariat aides brought the protocol to Pohamba, he declined to sign after a brief chat with his Trade and Industry minister Carl Schlettwein. Zuma also consulted his International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane before declining to sign.

Mugabe held a press conference after the official closing ceremony where he urged Zuma to cooperate with other SADC countries. He said they had appealed to Zuma to sign the protocol during the summit.

‘Reciprocal relationship’
“We also appealed to South Africa which is highly industrialised to lead us in this and work with us, and cooperate with us and not just regard the whole continent as an open market for products from South Africa,” said Mugabe. “We want a reciprocal relationship were we sell to each other and not just receive products from one source.”

Meanwhile, Pohamba and Mozambiquan President Armando Guebuza, whose terms of office are coming to an end this year gave farewell speeches during the closing ceremony.

In a communiqué released after the summit, the heads of states agreed to seek the intervention of the African Union to resolve the political crisis in DRC and support Madagascar in its rebuilding process. “Summit also called upon the United Nations in cooperation with the African Union, to play its role in repatriating FDLR elements that have voluntarily surrendered and disarmed or provide them with temporary resettlement in third countries outside the Great Lakes region,” part of the communiqué reads.

HealthNigerian Ebola Suspects Have Malaria, Say Turkish Health Ministry by ejlee(op): 2:57pm On Aug 13, 2014
Turkish Health Ministy officials have said Wednesday that the 32-year-old Nigerian woman and her son, who were put under medical supervision at Istanbul Ataturk International Airport for showing symptoms of the Ebola virus, are suffering from malaria.
The Nigerian woman named Stella Omorowa and her four-year-old son were on a Turkish Airlines flight from Lagos in Nigeria to Istanbul on Tuesday when the mother told the cabin crew she was feeling unwell.
According to the Health Ministry, the woman who was complaining of high fever and vomiting after arriving at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport, has been diagnosed with malaria.
Ministry officials said that the woman needs urgent treatment, she has severe form of malaria.
The woman is still being medically examined, and whether she has the virus has not yet been determined, the officials said.
Ebola, a contagious disease for which there is no definite treatment or cure, has been responsible for more than 1,000 deaths in West Africa since and the latest outbreak in February. The virus has been largely confined to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone except two deaths in Nigeria and a health worker who died in Spain on Tuesday.
The tropical fever, which first appeared in 1976 in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, can be transmitted to humans from wild animals and also spreads through contact with the body fluids of an infected person.
Doctors say common symptoms of Ebola include high fever and headaches, followed by vomiting and internal and external bleeding.

SportsFIFA Query Maigari Impeachment by ejlee(op): 5:10pm On Aug 07, 2014
World football governing body FIFA have demanded for a full explanation regarding the purported dismissal of Aminu Maigari as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Maigari was allegedly sacked by his executive committee on July 24.
But in a letter dated August 4, 2014, to NFF general secretary Musa Amadu and signed by deputy secretary general Markus Kattner, FIFA demanded a more detailed explanation leading to Maigari’s sack.
They asked for the agenda of the executive committee meeting that sacked Maigari, the conditions for the amendment of the agenda and whether the president was given the chance to defend himself.
FIFA also stated that the dismissal of any executive committee member was the prerogative of the NFF general assembly and not the executive committee.
The world football ruling body also expressed surprise that despite the lifting of the suspension of the country, the situation in Nigeria has become “so inextricable”.
Elections to the executive committee are due to be conducted on August 26.
And on the heels of the letter from FIFA, the NFF executive committee on Thursday suspended two other members, Chris Green and Yusuf Ahmed, for what they described as “anti-board activities”.

GAY Activist Confronts Nigerian President During Washington Visit

WASHINGTON, (NN1)—A gay Nigerian activist who sought asylum in the United States confronted President Goodluck Jonathan over the country’s recently passed anti-LGBT law at a dinner in the president’s honor hosted by business groups in Washington on Wednesday.
Micheal Ighodaro left Nigeria in 2012 after his ribs and hand were brokenin an attack in the capital of Abuja and is now a fellow at the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission in New York. He approached Jonathan during a $200-per-plate dinner hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, held on the sidelines of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit organized by the White House this week.
Ighodaro challenged the president about the Anti-Same-Sex Marriage Act, signed into lawin January, which also criminalizes advocating LGBT rights and displays of affection between people of the same-sex. Since its passage, there have been several reportsof mob attacks targeting people alleged to be LGBT.
Ighodaro told BuzzFeed that Jonathan replied, “The situation of homosexuals in Nigeria is delicate, but during this week the topic has come up a lot and it is something we will continue to look into, especially the attacks. If you think the law is unconstitutional you have the right to go to court and fight [to strike] it down,” which Ighodaro interpreted as a reference to similar Ugandan legislation struck downby the country’s Constitutional Court on Friday.
Jonathan’s speech to the dinner was devoted almost entirely to economic issues, but he seemed to make a vague reference to the anti-LGBT law at the very end of his remarks, as well as to the issue that has dominated U.S. coverage of Nigeria in recent months — the abduction of more than 300 school girls by Islamist militants in the northeastern part of the country. Jonathan said:
I cannot end my remarks without making reference to two issues that my ambassador here is spending much of his time explaining to you…. about the issue of sexuality in the country. Let me reassure you that, well, of course we have challenges. The issue of terror [is] very very negative for us, come to torment so many countries, and … we are receiving our fair share of terror in the local [group] called Boko Haram, that’s recently has been taking some school girls. But we are working very hard to bring it under control, and surely we’ll bring it under control.
The president then closed his speech and was presented with a gift by leaders of the Corporate Council on Africa and the Chamber of Commerce before leaving the hall.

HealthSaudi Man Being Tested For Ebola Dies In Hospital by ejlee(op): 3:16pm On Aug 06, 2014
Saudi Arabia Health Ministry: Man suspected of having Ebola dies in hospital in Jeddah

SAUDI ARABIA, (NN1)—The Saudi man who was suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus died on Wednesday in Jeddah, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
Ibrahim Al-lZahrani, a businessman in his 40s, passed away at the King Fahd Hospital, where he was admitted Monday night after showing symptoms of viral hemorrhagic fever.
Preliminary testing at a specialized laboratory was negative for Dengue virus. Additional tests were carried out to determine if the source of the infection is yellow fever, Alkhumra or another virus.
The MOH has submitted samples of the patient to an international reference laboratory in the United States as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Additional samples are being sent to an accredited laboratory in Germany.
Preparations for burial will be performed at the hospital in keeping with Islamic religious practices and international guidelines for patients suspected of having an infectious disease like Ebola.
MOH officials have been in direct and continuous contact with the family of the patient. Public health experts began retracing the patient’s travels upon notification of his symptoms and travel history. They are currently monitoring the people he came into contact with for any symptoms associated with viral hemorrhagic fever.
Saudi Arabia announced in April that it was not issuing visas for the 2014 Haj and Umrah to pilgrims from Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea due to these countries suffering from an Ebola outbreak. Medical workers are monitoring travelers at airports and seaports across the Kingdom.
Pilgrims from Ebola-endemic countries will be identified at disembarkation points in the Kingdom. The ministry has fielded special teams at air, land and sea entry points to identify pilgrims who are suffering from the disease.
The ministry has been carefully following online instructions issued by the WHO on the issue. The ministry also sporadically issues quarantine requirements to Saudi missions abroad.
Appeal for help
Meanwhile, the WHO on Monday appealed for contributions to combat the deadly Ebola disease in West Africa, saying hundreds of doctors, nurses, health staff, and materials are needed in the region as soon as possible.
WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said an emergency response will be implemented this week after being agreed by the chief of the agency and the presidents of the three most affected countries Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.
WHO Secretary-General Margaret Chan and the three West African leaders agreed on an Ebola disease response plan involving three co-centric rings in the most-affected areas along their common border, Hartl said.
They want to institute emergency measures to encourage people to stay in those areas and not leave, to control the spread of the disease to other areas, Hartl said , adding that his organization would increase supplies of food and other benefits into the areas so that people can stay there.
As a result of the plan, the UN agency has launched an appeal for $100 million from donor countries. “ We need many more contributions from the international community, from governments, from NGOs (non-governmental organizations), academic institutions, from anyone who can provide us with doctors, nurses, and other public-health staff, Hartl said.
An Ebola outbreak has been ongoing in Sierra Leone since May 2014 and has also affected Liberia and Guinea. More than 825 people have died to date, making this the largest outbreak of Ebola in history.
At least three Americans have been infected, two of whom are health care workers at an Ebola clinic.
About the virus
Ebola is a severe and often fatal disease that affects and kills up to 90 percent of humans infected with the virus. The Ebola virus is passed to humans through close contact with animals, such as fruit bats, monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees, carrying the virus.
Infected patients are highly contagious and pass the virus on to others who come in close contact with them either by exposure to objects that have been contaminated with infected blood or bodily fluids or through direct contact with the infected person’s blood or bodily fluids.
The incubation period for Ebola viral hemorrhagic fever is typically one week, during which time, the infected person will suffer from an array of symptoms such as fever, chills, back pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. As the virus progresses, those infected will experience a rash over their entire body, swelling of the eyes and genital area, bleeding from the mouth, nose, eyes, ears, and rectum, followed by shock, coma and death in many cases.
