Nairaland GeneralKenya Interior Minister, Police Chief Sack From Posts After Massacre by ejlee(op): 3:50pm On Dec 02, 2014
Kenya's interior minister and police chief were removed from their posts on Tuesday, hours after Somalia's Shebab rebels carried out a fresh massacre in the northeast of the country.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said in a televised address to the nation that he had replaced interior minister Joseph Ole Lenku, and accepted police chief David Kimaiyo's request to retire.
"Earlier today I held a meeting with Kimaiyo who has offered to retire and I have accepted the retirement request. I thank him for his service to the nation," Kenyatta said.
"Subsequently, I have also nominated Joseph Nkaissery to take over the security docket as Interior Cabinet Secretary," he added.
Kenya would "intensify" its war on terrorism after the Shebab attacks, the president also said.
The annoucement came hours after Somalia's Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebab Islamists massacred 36 quarry workers in the northeast of the country, the latest in a string of gruesome attacks on Kenyan soil.

Nairaland GeneralUrhobo Leader Aziza Laid To Rest by ejlee(op): 7:50pm On Oct 13, 2014
October 11th, 2014, will ever remain in the memory of Nigerians, Deltans and mostly the Urhobos as the remains of President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief (Major-General) Newton Patrick Aziza (RTD) was laid to rest in his home town, Adagbrasa, Okpe LGA, Delta State.

In addition...
* UPU also used the opportunity to appeal to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan to fulfill the vision of Late Aziza which is the provision of an Urhobo ‘Governor’ for Delta State in 2015.
UPU Secretary-General, Chief Fred Akpomudje (SAN) speaking on behalf of UPU Acting President General, Chief Joe Omene, described the death of Aziza as a falling ‘Iroko tree’ whose vacuum would be difficult to fill.
He ascribed the sacrifice of Aziza for Urhobos to that of Jesus Christ who died for the sin of the people of the world.
According to him, “Urhobo had lost a great leader in the person of Chief Patrick Newton Aziza. We did not know if we can fill the vacuum. He is humble, calm, gentle and will not enforce his will on anyone despite that he has the power to do so. He will always want to go with the choice of the masses. “
Akpomudje expressed his sincere gratitude to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for the assistant he offered to Patrick Aziza and his family and by extension to UPU during his ill health challenges and after his demise.
“Permit me at this point to specially thank Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for his assistant. When we noticed his failing health you gave your assistant. After his death, you did not only assist, but you were personally on ground to supervise the arena for the burial ceremony,” Akpomudje affirmed.
Akpomudje, however, appealed to Uduaghan that the best thing he could do for Aziza so that his soul would rest in perfect peace is to assist Urhobos to achieve Aziza vision which he was not able to achieve before his death.
Although, Akpomudje did not mention the Urhobo vision Aziza did not achieve in practical term, which he wanted Uduaghan to accomplish, but it is a known fact that the vision which Aziza could not achieve for the Urhobos before his demise is nothing else but “Urhobo being the governor of Delta State”.

Aziza unforgetable Moment....
* Aziza was a member of the group of officers that planned the coup in which General Sani Abacha took power. He was Chairman of the Special Military Tribunal that convicted Olusegun Obasanjo and Major General Shehu Musa Yar'Aduafor involvement in an alleged 1995 coup plot. He was also head of a tribunal that tried six journalists for treason, based on publishing accounts of the coup. The trials were swift and the conclusion appeared to be decided in advance.

Aziza Profile....
* Major-General Patrick Aziza(23 December 1947 – 16 August 2014) was the first military Governor of Kebbi State, Nigeria after it was split off from Sokoto Stateon 27 August 1991 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Birth and early career.....
* Aziza was born in Okpe local Government Area in Delta Stateon 23 December 1947. He was raised in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. He went to Ibadan for his secondary education before joining the army and participating in the Nigerian Civil War(1967–1970). Aziza then attended the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna, graduating in 1970. He was commissioned 2nd lieutenant and promoted to lieutenant in 1970, and was posted to the 3rd Marine Commando. In 1971 he was promoted to captain. He was appointed ADC to the Chief of Army Staff, Major General David Ejoor. In 1974 he attended the Advanced School of Infantry in Fort Benning, United States for a 12-month course.
Aziza was posted to Warri as a Battalion Commander, then promoted and posted to Kano as Brigade major. He attended the Command and Staff College, Jaji (1978–1979), and was then posted to Army Headquarters responsible for movement and planning. In this role he handled troop movement planning for the Nigerian contingent in the United Nations' operations, UNIFIL, in Lebanon. Aziza served in the Provisional Ruling Council.

BusinessChina Officially Overtakes USA As World's Largest Economy, According To IMF by ejlee(op): 2:39pm On Oct 08, 2014
Sorry, America. China just overtook the US to become the world's largest economy, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Chris Giles at the Financial Times flagged up the change. He also alerted us back in April this year that it was all about to happen.
Basically, the method used by the IMF adjusts for purchasing power parity, explained here.
The simple logic is that prices aren't the same in each country: A shirt will cost you less in Shanghai than San Francisco, so it's not entirely reasonable to compare countries without taking this into account. Though a typical person in China earns a lot less than the typical person in the US, simply converting a Chinese salary into dollars underestimates how much purchasing power that individual, and therefore that country, might have. The Economist's Big Mac Indexis a great example of these disparities.
So the IMF measures both GDP in market exchange terms, and in terms of purchasing power. On the purchasing power basis, China is overtaking the US right about now and becoming the world's biggest economy.
We've just gone past that cross-over on the chart below, according to the IMF. By the end of 2014, China will make up 16.48% of the world's purchasing-power adjusted GDP (or $17.632 trillion), and the US will make up just 16.28% (or $17.416 trillion):
IMF, Google Public Data Explorer
Adjusted for purchasing power, the IMF thinks China's economy is now the world's largest.
It's not all sore news for the US. It'll be some time yet until the lines cross over in raw terms, not adjusted for purchasing power. By that measure, China still sits more than $6.5 trillion lower than the US and isn't likely to overtake for quite some time
But in terms of the raw market value of China's currency, it still has a long way to go.
