The Senate saw mild drama on Monday when the Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Professor Hussain Ibrahim, identified the development of Kilishi technology as its major breakthrough since the agency’s creation, 33 years ago. Ibrahim, who appeared before the Senate Committee on Science and Technology to brief the senators on the activities of his agency, caused a stir when he said the Kilishi technology was the only major breakthrough it had successfully developed for commercial use. Kilishi is a locally spiced roasted meat made of beef, and it is very popular in the northern part of Nigeria. The Chairman of the Senate panel, Senator Uche Ekwunife, had asked the DG to tell Nigerians what specific raw material the agency had successfully produced in the country in partnership with other research institutes. Ekwunife said, “Your core mandate is to develop local materials. “Can you tell us the local raw materials you have developed in the areas of health, brewery, construction, science, and technology, or agriculture? I love the fact that you spoke for yourself, I am also on that team. But we are not the only youths Nigeria has. A blend of those on revenge mission, those fascinated by the power of violence and the plain inquisitive can still use all these information as a motivation. It does not make what OP is doing by exposing all these things bad, it is just a narrative we should consider and be guided accordingly. PoliteActivist: |
I agree with you. A good cause can easily be misinterpreted. For me, the stories have become a good source of entertainment, for someone young person it might even give the last piece of encouragement to join(supremacy battles, fear in the eyes of JU men and all)They know they can get killed but that Nigerian spirit of the 'other person wasn't smart enough, I'll be smarter' can still push them with misguided encouragement from what they have read here. God help us! dairykidd: |
