LAGOS State Governor Babatunde Fashola says his desire is to complete ongoing projects in the state in 2013. The governor spoke during a project inspection tour he described as a renewal of his administration’s commitment to service. A statement from his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, on Wednesday explained that Fashola, who in company with members of his cabinet and some permanent secretaries on Tuesday toured Oyingbo Market, Tejuosho Market, Shitta HOMS Project, and the Apapa-Iganmu Drainage channel project via Babs Animashaun, also went to Ilasamaja Pedestrian Bridge, Olu-Aina Street site of Mushin HOMS, and Kodesho Road, Ikeja. Fashola said, “We are going round our project sites because we have just finished a budget and the essence of 2013 budget is to focus on completion of ongoing projects. Now, we have received briefs from various ministries, departments and agencies about all what they plan to do. “So, we have made provisions for them but there are inter-ministerial and inter-departmental impacts. So we’ve decided now that whosoever is in charge of any project, whether you need to do environmental work or you need to do traffic work there, let us all go out now and see what needs to be done instead of just staying in our offices.” He said the inspection was a field work that could be useful in letting all cabinet members know what role they would play so that everyone could work as a team. He added that the projection of his administration was that by the middle of second quarter of next year, the Oyingbo market project would have been completed. The governor said, “We also visited Tejuosho market to see the level of work going on there. There is a challenge of funding on the project which will necessitate a going back to chart a way forward. “In Surulere, we saw the canal at Babs Animashaun. There were redesign issues there. There was a depth of about 33 metres that was not within the contemplation of the contractors, so we have to redesign the scope of works and re-quantify it. “The drainage channel in Itire is a system canal that goes through Mushin to Ilasamaja and towards Badagry. One section of it has been completed while plans are on to start the other section in next year’s budget” Fashola, who noted that the Apapa- Iganmu drainage channel via Babs Animashaun had been blocked by refuse, said indiscriminate dumping of waste was a challenge government had been facing. He urged the residents to patronise the waste management companies to dispose their waste properly. http://www.punchng.com/news/lagos-to-complete-ongoing-projects-in-2013/ |

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, yesterday launched the Maternal and Child Care Mortality Reduction Programme in the state, noting that the state has built eight Maternal and Child Care (MCC) Hospitals in the past five years to provide life saving services to mothers and children. The Governor, who spoke at the Blueroof Hall, LTV 8 Complex Agidingbi, said five have gone into full operation, while out of the remaining three, two have been completed with training of staff that have been specially recruited to be familiar with the equipment and the facilities before being deployed as is currently going on. Governor Fashola said government is not done yet as at this year it has awarded another two MCCs in Badagry and Epe to ensure that the project to reduce distance to hospital for pregnant women, is state wide and all embracing. Governor Fashola, who took a retrospective look at the programme, said it is a project within a comprehensive programme that started in 2007. He added that when he was elected as governor one of the challenges he resolved to confront was the unacceptable index of women of children or both who losing their lives in the process of child-bearing. He said his interactions with professionals in the medical fields both within the state service and private sector showed the many causes of infant and maternal mortality which were many and varied. Among them were the issues of diet, lifestyle, undiagnosed non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, complications during pregnancy, quackery, distance to properly equipped hospitals which sometimes lead to fatalities during emergencies. The Governor who gave a status report on each of the factors said as at today, government has resolved a number of them and still has its hands on the plough to overcome those that are still receiving attention. On diabetes and hypertension screening and treatment which was one of the first to be flagged off at Ifako -Ijaiye on assumption of office, between 2007 and July 2012, a total of 96,468 people have been screened and screening is still continuing. "What was most revealing was the lack of knowledge about our people and women of child bearing age about the lifestyle choices and what they eat and how this pre-disposes them to risk during pregnancy." "Of course, there were cultural issues about the gender preference in our society and not a few women have lost their lives in order to have a child of a particular http://allafrica.com/stories/201210190521.html |

take dat: If this is true i guess ACN only played a smart one on PDP cos it was obvious South Westerners were going to vote for GEJ prior to the election as most people were blinded by Tribal and Religious sentiments and the GEJ shoeless sympathy. This ACN member is a foul loser cos he ought to have come out since if he had strong convictions of some under hand dealings between ACN and GEJ.What do you think is gonna happen if he had done this earlier ? ![]() Put GEJ and Tinubu in jail for giving and receiving bribe respectively? we've got to restart Nigeria's political system |
^^ U dey mind am Hey, e don tey small. Aw far? |
Why blame anyone now?! Ofcourse AC.N knew presidential seat wasn't yet their place as at 2011. The party wasn't yet as strong as it is now. They're still trying to capture S/West. The presidential election came before governorship election, as at then Oyo and Ogun states were both under PDP. Definitely it's a joke for them to thing of getting the presidency. The best option for them then was to make sure S/west is fully theirs and retain lagos. Ribadu was just placed as figure head. When the time is ripe, they've got plans to make things work |
Abegi, omo Igbo has used his peeps do money ritual. What's new in this, na so the thing be for that cave called Igbo land ![]() |
