Business / Oba Otudeko Wins Africa's Best CEO 2016 by ekseel(m): 9:04am On Mar 25, 2016
Oba Otudeko Beat Dangote to Win Africa's Best CEO 2016

Though his looks may reflect an unassuming personality, his relentless appetite for risk, his zeal to impact lives by creating jobs and transforming the business landscape with legacy projects and his philanthropy have made the Africa CEO Forum, to name Nigeria’s Ayoola Oba Otudeko, the Africa CEO of the Year (2016).

Indeed, Otudeko has been a pacesetter for quite some time. Born Obafunke (but better known as Oba) Otudeko, the chairman of Honeywell Group has a larger-than-life image as a shrewd businessman and a risk-taker of no mean stature.
Otudeko, the chairman of Honeywell Group, beat seven other finalists, including Africa’s richest, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to clinch the coveted prize.
Otudeko and Dangote were the only Nigerians listed among the eight top contenders for the coveted Africa CEO of The Year Award.
His conglomerate’s operations stretch across oil and gas, flour milling, real estate and marine transportation. Another piece of his fortune is in the oceanfront Radisson Blu in Lagos, Nigeria.

A trained chartered banker, chartered corporate secretary and chartered accountant, the highly successful Nigerian investor and entrepreneur, whose domestic and foreign interests cut across diverse sectors of the economy, was, at various times, chairman, First Bank of Nigeria, FBN Bank (UK) Limited, Airtel Nigeria and Fan Milk of Nigeria Plc.
He has also served on the boards of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Guinness Nigeria Plc, British American Tobacco Limited and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated headquartered in Lome, Togo.
Four Nigerian firms — Seplat Petroleum, Dangote Group, Guaranty Trust Bank and Zenith Bank — were also on the list of finalists for prizes in the six-category award session of the yearly conference. Other categories were African Company of the Year (where Nigeria’s Dangote Group and Seplat are listed), African Bank of the Year (with Zenith Bank among the eight finalists), Private Equity Investor of the Year, International Corporation of the Year and the Young CEO of the Year.
The six prizes were announced in the presence of Nigeria’s Akinwumi Adesina, the president of the AfDB.
The Forum rewards Africa’s best Chief Executive Officers, Companies, and investors whose strategies have contributed significantly to the economic growth of the continent. Set up in partnership with the African Development Bank, the Africa CEO Forum is an event organised jointly by Groupe Jeune Afrique, publisher of Jeune Afrique and The Africa Report, and Rainbow Unlimited, a Swiss company specialising in organising economic promotion events.

Otudeko knew quite early what he wanted out of life and pursued the dream with tenacity of purpose. While he was growing up, the only thing that caught his fancy was business; he refused to be swayed by any other interest.
The grace of God in his life has also united with his training and perception, endowing him with the Midas touch – success has always trailed all that he has ventured into. Having joined the business world at a very tender age, he is, today, considered as the one of the richest men in Africa, according to Forbes.

Oba Otudeko has impacted on the immediate community of Honeywell Group through wealth and value creation, in addition to a pool of highly motivated workforce. It is a fact today that many have tapped and benefited enormously from his huge financial and business experience.
In recognition of his many contributions to the economic and social development of Nigeria, and his consistent commitment to good causes and the Nigerian nation, his National Honour was again upgraded to Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) in November 2011, having previously been awarded Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in November 2002 and Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in December 2000.
He was the president and chairman of council of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The ever-blunt philanthropist promotes his ideals of philanthropy and giving back to the society through the Footprints Occupational Training Centres initiative of the Oba Otudeko Foundation.
Founder and President of the Africa CEO Forum, Amir Ben Yahmed, while presenting the award to Otudeko, noted that the CEO of the Year award was conferred on him based on his achievements in the fields of development, governance, strategy, leadership, and financial performance across the operations of his conglomerate.
According to the organisers, Otudeko in response expressed happiness at the recognition for his contributions to achieving a better Africa.
“I see the award as recognition of commitment and indeed confidence, that the future of Africa resides strongly in the patriotic African person.
“Our future is bright. We should not allow our challenges to diminish our confidence. Africa would prosper in cooperation with all our friends, who are within Africa and outside Africa,’ the Honeywell Group chair said, just as he encouraged African CEOs to continue working together to support the continent’s growth dynamics.
Recently, Otudeko, was also conferred with a special recognition award by the Ogun State government in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the development of the state and the country as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary celebrations of Ogun State, the ‘Gateway State’.
An indigene of Ogun State from Odogbolu, Dr. Oba Otudeko, who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the state, was honoured amongst five other distinguished icons of the state.

Otudeko expressed gratitude to the governor, Ibikunle Amosun and the people of Ogun State for the honour. “I congratulate other worthy awardees. We are all proud of what Ogun has achieved in its 40 years of existence and what the present administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun is doing, especially in the area of urban renewal. I promise to continue to use my God-given endowments to further the cause of development in Ogun State.”

Otudeko’s Honeywell Group — which originally started operations as trading concern, importing and marketing baking yeast, stock fish, glass and steel rods, among others — was founded in 1972. The group of companies has now evolved into a diversified enterprise with businesses across major sectors of the Nigeria economy (foods and agro-allied, real estate, infrastructure, energy and services). Through additional portfolio investments, the Group is also a significant provider of capital to other sectors of Nigeria’s economy including financial services, telecommunications, and security management.

Politics / Re: Is Kemi Really Ripe For Finance Minister? by ekseel(m): 4:05pm On Nov 15, 2015
maupe:

Unfortunately for her, as you stated correctly, her appointment was at the behest of Obasanjo. Anyone who chooses to work on the orders and to the wishes of the one time president is doomed to fail. The problem with Obasanjo, is that he talks too much and does very little. He claims to know everybody that is everybody, in the international community, but actually is a naysayer to only a few global shakers. Another problem is his insatiable greed and irrational lust for control. Obasanjo will make Kemi do and sign unholy and ridiculous contracts which at the tail end of this administration, will reduce Aunty Kemi to a laughable commodity. Aunty Kemi, is very weak and docile, and unable to say it as it is. This was the primary reason for her failure as the commissioner for finance in Ogun state. She is not like NOI, who was bold enough to follow the books and thus, sanitised the Financial sector, without caring whose ox was gored. Unfortunately, there are those who will not listen to reason, but will rather wait till the end of four years before they see the undeniable truth. Hopefully, the President will realise his mistake, and will tell Obasanjo to let him be, and so will reshuffle his cabinet six months from now.

I don't know you are a "TB joshua" that can see vision, leave her to work and wait till she fail.

I already knew from her screening that this woman will be a disaster. She has no grounded knowledge or experience of public finance and economics to effectively handle Nigeria's finance ministry. She should have been made a minister of women affairs or some other ministry.
Buhari's cabinet as a whole is full of misfits, I'm not expecting anything positive from them.

"The False Accusations Against Ngozi Okonjo Iweala"

Anyone that take you serious is wasting their time because you can't be objective about her anyway. Probably, you are still bitter about your "god" who was ousted from that position.
Deal with it, Kemi is the minister of Finance and she will succeed whether you like it or not

maupe:

On the contrary, I know her more than I am stating. Also, why didn't you list her entire CV. The fact is that though, she may have worked in some respective firms in the UK, she does not have the level of influence that goes with such a position as the minister of finance. That is a fact that has been pointed out by major players in the financial sector. Also, if you think that the only requirement for succeeding in the financial world is competence, then am afraid you know nothing about global and public finance. Six months down the line, you will see what I am trying to point out.

Till then maupe, if all your noise about influence is wat it should be, then Nigeria should be another UK with all the influence NOI has...
Governance is a system with other subsystem, a serious and dedicated government with sound policy direction with other sub system working as it should be is wat will help any minister or even minister of Finance...
Bring harvard professor as minister of finance in Nigeria, he won't perform better than NOI because of the political and government we had.
The success of kemi is also hinged on the success of this administration with regard to discipline on corruption, commitment on the diversification of the economy, devotion to infrastructure development.
NOI failed because of the administration and so Kemi can only fail if the system remains the same (over dependence on crude oil and high level of corruption).
I believe in her and let her fail first, by the way she can't be worst than NOI
Politics / Re: Is Kemi Really Ripe For Finance Minister? by ekseel(m): 2:02pm On Nov 15, 2015
maupe:
Despite the fact that Kemi is my big sister, I have to be truthful and honest. Aunty Kemi has only a first degree in economics from the University of East London, not even Oxford or Cambridge or even Kings college. She was initially an investment banker in Lagos before being made the commissioner for finance in Ogun state. She has no clout in the international business world and little or no contacts. To nominate her as a successor to NOI, is a big mistake, for those are shoes to big for her to wear. Also, these are perilous times for experimentation. In the wake of the JP Morgan delisting and the inevitable Barclays followup, what we need is someone who has friends in high places and can liase with these institutions for a common ground, Aunty Kemi does not have such influence. This was a mistake by the President. I won't be surprised if there is a cabinet reshuffle six months down the line.

Did you deliberately omit the fact that she worked with PWC in the UK and rose to Senior Manager before coming to Nigeria or you are ignorant of that fact...
Also why not wait for her to fail before you call the appointment a big mistake, judging the book by the cover that led our economy to where it is now with your "influential" NOI.
Finally, you also portray your Nigerian mentality that "we need people who know people in high places"... WRONG.
We only need competent hands and a serious government with good vision and policies. When you are competent, you earn the respect of people and become influential.
Give the "YOUNG" "WOMAN" a chance before you people castigate her.
Doubting Thomas! lest I forget, don't famz her with your "Aunty Kemi" because am sure you don't know her.

Education / Re: Tips On Effective Time Management For Students. by ekseel(m): 10:13pm On Nov 13, 2015
ikechukwu354:
I know this is no business with the thread but matters alot

Its no longer news hearing the ongoing protests in various part of the SE by the IPOB youths. In as much as I'm of the SE extraction, I want my fellow South Easterners to be rational and objective in their thinking. Biafra shouldn't be our priority now.
The reasons why I'm of the opinion that Biafra shouldn't be our priority are:
1. Most powerful Igbos leaders are against it: Those of us with strong memories would agree with me that Nnamdi Kanu isn't the first person to follow this path.
Years ago during Obasanjo's administration, Mr Ralph Uwazurike the leader of MASSOB attempted something similar. What was the result...he spent years locked up in an underground cell, his members were jailed many are still in jail as we speak, some even lost their precious lives.
The then igbo leaders who even had the senate leadership then did nothing, why cos they weren't ready to relinquish their positions and Federal Government appointments for Uwazurike's movement.
If nothing was done by the SE leaders then, what makes the youths so certain that they'll lift a finger towards their course now considering the fact that most of our leaders are self centered?
2. Thousands and even millions of South Easterners are likely going to be plunged into the job market upon declaration of Biafra: Its most likely that if the biafran dream is actualized today, Igbos working in various Nigerian government parastatals across the federation would automatically loose their job. Starting from Igbos in the military (Army, Airforce and Navy), to Civil Service, to the Nigerian Police Force, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration, FRSC, EFCC, ICPC, The Ministry, Ministers and Senators from the biafran territory will no longer be recognized in the Nigerian Senate, ...etc.
Can we cope with that, noting that the current economy of some SE states isn't something to be proud about, and we can't even secure employment for those living there how much more when you have a mass exodus of people relocating home. How will they survive?
Germany requested for thousands of Syrian refugees because they have a very good economy to settle them in months.
We should understand that if Biafra is declared, a similar mass exodus would be experienced.
Question is do we have a plan to absorb the thousands who probably would be relieved of their duties by the Nigerian Federal Government into the biafran economy and create such parastatals for them with a short period of time so they can work and take care of their families?
These are questions we need to ask ourselves.
3. The SE is improvised: We deserve a good leadership in the SE not biafra: Currently, we lack good roads, we lack constant electricity, we lack well equipped government primary and secondary schools, we lack portable drinking water...etc. Why should secession be our priority?
Few months ago, Afikpo youths comprising of Amasiri, Edda, Uwanna...etc blocked the roads to protest 2years of blackout in Afikpo. (The thread was even on Nairaland) I witnessed that protest live cos I was in Amasiri (Ebotrans park) en route Abakaliki and was delayed by the protesters for over an hour because the whole roads leading to Abakaliki were all blocked.
If Afikpo which is agurably the second largest town with the best economy in Ebonyi state after Abakaliki can be in darkness for 2years, then I think its time for us to go back to the drawing board. Cos we can't expect the biafra economy to survive in darkness.
We should also be bothered about the number of our educated minds finding their way to other geopolitical zones outside the SE in search of greener pastures. That's another indication to tell us that our economy needs serious rehabilitation.
If we're so bent on making biafra a reality then we should beginning to hold our leaders accountable to every promise they made to us during the past elections
Great nations are ruled by great minds not thieves, crooks and heartless looters camouflaging themselves as leaders to enrich their 20th generation.
It is time for the Igbo youths to come together and reverse the trend of ubiquitous leadership ravishing igbo land and put up a system that would enable the best of us emerge as leaders.
Our leaders are our problem, therefore we should direct our aggression towards them. Because even if the biafran dream becomes a reality, I doubt we would survive up to 3years considering the kind of crooks we have as leaders.
We should try to understand that Biafra isn't the solution to the problems we're currently facing in the SE. If we fail to address the issue of bad leadership then biafra will be a case of "Dead On Arrival".
4. Inability to stand Independently: A child only thinks of leaving his parents home to cater for himself when feels he's matured enough to survive independently.
If we're sincere enough, you'll all agree with me that most SE states cannot survive without FG allocation. Currently people in Ebony are experiencing serious hardship. No thanks to the Governor (Dave) who has slashed their salaries for no good reason. Imo state isn't left out of the suffering as state workers there are also experiencing hardship as well.
We have FG allocations yet our Governors cannot pay their workers, and cannot make the state habitable for its people by providing basic amenities. What do you think would happen if the allocation stops?
A few years back when Rochas announced that he wants all secondary schools in imo state to put on a particular school uniform. Yes it was a welcome development to reduce discrimination's amongst schools. But most people frowned at him when he contracted the job to a Chinese company.
Why would a governor contract a job to a Chinese company for billions of naira when there are so many indigenous companies in the SE that would do it for a far lesser amount?
If our leaders are interested in developing the SE why have they refused to invest in the numerous untapped resources in the SE?
Or are they scared that their successors would become the direct benefactors when they leave office?
Isn't that a myopic way of reasoning?
5. Dis-unity and inability to make accurate political calculations: From the 1999 till date, while people of other regions had managed to unite behind their candidate of choice in virtually all elections that had been held, we have always failed to do so.
I wasn't born during the civil war so I have very little knowledge about Ojukwu's acceptance by the general Igbo populace then.
But I remember vividly in 2003 how he (Ojukwu) lost that election in the SE to PDP's Obasanjo. It was recorded that Obasanjo had a thrilling 69.46% of votes from the SE. If we sincerely wanted power that year why didn't we rally round Ojukwu and give him our support like we did during the civil war?
Even when Alex Ekwueme contested the PDP primaries against Obasanjo the same year (2003). That attempt clearly outlined the dis unity amongst our leaders, because most PDP governors of SE states openly campaigned against their own son and supported the same Obsanjo.
Ever since I became knowledgeable of the events happening around me, I've never witnessed any election in Nigeria where we (Igbos) emphatically agreed and produced a candidate of the Igbo extraction acceptable to the whole nation and backed him aggressively. Just as President Buhari was backed by his kinsmen and practically other tribes.
In all the elections however from 1999-till date, we (Igbos) have failed to present a formidable candidate.
We don't even have a formidable political party to start with in the SE. The APGA which was created by Ojukwu has only the governorship seat in Anambra state to boast of.
The North and the SW easily formed an alliance because they had formidable parties they were all loyal to.
My point is that if we cannot determine our political relevance here in Nigeria, we'll keep having problems among ourselves should biafra become a reality.
Solution: We are all Nigerians so we should work towards the growth of this country. To my IPOB brothers, I will say sheath your swords. Don't waste your precious lives, MASSOB has followed that path, and today their members in jail are yet to get justice and those that lost their lives as a result of the struggle have been forgotten. If you die in this struggle you will be forgotten, your name wouldn't even be mentioned anywhere as a hero. Our leaders don't care, their kids are all abroad so when a stray bullet from a happy trigger policeman hits you, you're gone. No justice!
Anyi Ga-eme Mbaa Ka Ódi Ukwuu Ma Öbúrú Na Agbúrú Nille Ga Etikota Aka Rúó Órú Ma Gharakwa Ì Na-ata Ndi Ózó Uta Mgbe Ihe Mgberede Dakwasiri Anyi.E Kwenyerem Nigïria Ga Adikwa Ukwúú ÖZÖ.

God bless you for your objectivity in addressing this issue, Many of your people think getting biafra is just like going to the market to buy rice

Politics / Court Bars Banks From ‘instigating’ Kashamu’s Arrest - The Nations by ekseel(m): 1:51pm On Nov 13, 2015
It seems this man and arrest are synonymous, lol!

"The Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday barred five commercial banks from instigating Senator Buruji Kashamu’s arrest by security agencies over an alleged debt.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke made an order of perpetual injunction restraining the banks and their officers from instigating the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) to arrest, interrogate or detain Kashamu.

It is with regards to “an innocuous and unblemished civil contractual transaction” between Kashamu and the banks.
The banks are Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Union Bank Plc, Enterprise Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc and First City Monument Bank Plc.
The judge declared that the EFCC and the police were not empowered to act as debt collectors.

Kashumu sued along with his companies: Kasmal Properties Ltd, Hotel De Island Ltd, Nacoil International Ltd, Hotel De Island Bureau De Change Ltd, Island Auto International Ltd, Daily Capital Microfinance Ltd and Kasmal Group of Companies.

They claimed the banks were being used by his political opponents to send the EFCC after him over the loans he obtained".

“The applicants’ relationships with the third to seventh respondents (banks) are purely banker/customer relationships with valuable security collaterising all loans taken from the banks and therefore devoid of criminality as to justify reference to law enforcement agents.

“The first and second respondents (EFCC and IGP) are agencies of the government charged with the responsibility of combating economic and financial crimes.

“In the course of their relationships with the third to seventh respondents (banks), the plaintiffs have not committed any economic, financial or general crime as to warrant being reported to and or interrogated and detained by the first and second respondents.

“I believe the indebtedness of a customer to his bank is not a crime under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kashamu said in a supporting affidavit.

He urged the court to declare that the respondents had violated his rights to liberty and to own property under sections 35 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution for harassing, intimidating, arresting and threatening him with detention.

However, Ecobank asked the court to dismiss or strike out Kashamu’s suit for being a gross abuse of the court processes.
Its case with Kashamu, the bank said, had to do with his indebtedness to the defunct Oceanic Bank, acquired by Ecobank and had no connection with his purported extradition process to the US for heroine importation charges.

So II subscribed to the 4.5 GB day and night plan this week only for me to notice that one night I had 400 MB thereabout for day plan , the next morning checked again and I just had 2mb ,was shocked but I thought nothing of it .

Yesterday ,I subscribed again same plan rolled over data . waited for the night plan to kick in before I updated my ps4 . Did not do any heavy browsing during the day , nor this morning ,just chatting and mobile transfer only for me to check my balance this evening and I just have 17mb left on my day plan.

Very pissed of at the moment but wanted to make sure that nothing has changed about the 4.5gb plan or has mtn started playing games again ?

The same happened to me I ooo, I tot I was the only one. I currently use Airtel social plan for day and use the remaining MTN for night. I was very sad d day it happened

Abeg, which senator is on min. wage or part time basis?
Una sha wan dey ridicule the man dey go. Turning errtin he says upside down.
No be the same senators wey we hear say dem dey earn pass Obama?!
Cut him some slack!

All am saying is dat why not reduce the senators salary drastically to minimum wage or they pay them as if it a part time job instead of him suggesting that they increase the tax of the Employed (because they already pay tax) .

Lead by example sir.

Pledge 1% of your salary to the unemployed.

Don't mind him, he's just trying to be relevant. He has not made any meaningful contribution in the house.... During ministerial screening, you will think he was on leave.

All hail the twitter senator
