Family / Re: Court Declares LG Marriage Certificates Illegal by ekwynox: 11:06pm On Jul 16, 2019
ekwynox:
Please, I am seeking your opinion on this. I did my wedding at the local government registry. Can my spouse get the replacement marriage certificate on our behalf as required by the recent judgement as I do not live in Nigeria and the embassy is rejecting the local government issued marriage certificate? Thanks for your prompt response.

My apologies, I haven't been active on nairaland for a long time.

You might have resolved this but this is for anyone that needs it. Obtain an affidavit from a high court and proceed to a federal marriage registry with the marriage certificate issued at the local government. Explain to them why you're there. It would also help you to get your witnesses swear an affidavit too that you can bring along. It involves some paperwork which would be easier if both couple are around. If not, expect to spend some money on courier. Also, make sure the date of marriage on reissued certificate matches the date on the old one you obtained from the local government. Pay attention to the pen you'll use if you're doing courier; blue pen is common in Nigerian offices.

Hello everyone,

I have read through this thread. It's been educating. I have had a second thought and arrived at the option of birthing in Canada. I initially opted for the US but seeing the goings-on over there, I have had a change of mind.

I have a few questions regarding the process:

1. Does one need a letter from a doctor, that indicates the doctor would be birthing the patient, before hand in order to initiate the online application.

2. Which family practice doctor and what region do you recommend as I do not have any relative in Canada? I intend to rent a hotel or an affordable accommodation. I have a budget of $15K and EDD is December 2019. I would appreciate it if I can ger contacts of doctors/hospitals you recommend.

Thank you as you reply.

NB: The above information is requested for my brother's spouse. I was the one that encouraged her to birth in the US so that she can stay with me and family.

I need advice/input on the best way to approach this. I wedded in a local government marriage registry in Anambra State. Following the recent judgement by the high court in Lagos, the US immigration is rejecting local government issued marriage certificate for my wife's application. How can my wife receive a replacement certificate in my absence since I am not in Nigeria. Anyone with suggestions can give me here or hit me up privately. Thanks in advance.

The issue here is that the Ministry of Interior has written embassies to stop acknowledging the 'Local Government Unified Marriage Certificate'. The US Department of State, which used to accept these local government issued certificates, has updated its website to show that it no longer accepts such.

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country/NI.html

They're issuing 'Request for further evidence' if you have the local government version of the marriage certificate

God bless Lagos. Those Immigration officers will gladly do it once they confirm what it would be is used for is genuine

Ok, in that case, I will try Lagos or Abuja. I will go there in person with the documents requiring the authenticated copy of the biodata page.

All I guess they need is a stamp and signed done on the copy of the the said photo copied bio data page.

Yes, Gwowaga. That's my line of thought too, because the ministry of foreign affairs said they need immigration stamp before they can authenticate it. But the guy at immigration Awka doesn't seem to know what to do. I am wondering if someone knows where and how to get immigration to stamp it.

Thank you for the good work you're doing here. I would be glad if someone can give me a clue on how to get this done. I need to get the photocopy of the biodata page of my spouse's passport legalized. My brother took the passport and its photocopy alongside other documents that are to be legalized. However, he was told at the ministry of foreign affairs that he should get the photocopy of biodata page of passport stamped/authenticated by Nigerian immigration service. So we asked people working at immigration at Awka but they don't have an idea of how to do this. I would be glad if someone can point me in the right direction on how to get this down, where, how long it takes and how much. Thanks in advance.

Good evening pals! For those that were interviewed today, please give us your wonderful testimony. For those waiting for interview and 2NL i wish you outstanding success in IJMN, Amen! For those that have received their visas, congratulations. If you know you are going to New york, say "Aiyeee!"
I don't still understand this USCIS of a thing. Went to the site but couldn't get the link for immigrant fee payment. Gurus in the house should help me.

For my case, i was not asked to remove belt or shoes. If you are going for interview, try to wear simple belt that doesn't have hard metallic core and i think you will be fine. It's only when they scan you and the carett continues to beep that you will give them room to start telling you to remove this or that.

bukiemma:

Congrats... May u prosper in ur new country IJN.
Please I want to confirm if I will be asked to remove my belt b4 entering into the embassy hall. Cos u mentioned earlier dat u were asked to remove ur belts during d security check.

Please FAM! Enlighten me with this. Thanks

God will favour us all, Amen.
Please, do not cause your self high bp because of 2nl or when to be current. take my case for example, i was supposed to current in october, cas number AF2014000027xx. Most ppl that are current for october in nigeria received their 2nl in august and september but i never received. i sent my forms on 29th may, and the forms arrived kcc 2nd week of june. I was patient and on 18th october, my 2nl landed after more than two months and i was booked for appointment on the 3rd of december. i thanked God and started preparing my documents little by little. so be patient, when it is your turn, you will surely get it. Just commit everything into the hands of God and pray very well.
also, for those saying that the people that have appointment by 10am don't make it. in fact, most people that i saw their interview by that 10am made it. they were all beaming with smiles except for a set of three people that didn't cum with three passports, they came with one passport each and i think they are together, but what i don't know is whether they are dv winners but am sure they are seeking immigrants visa but i don't whether its dv. they were frustrated and there interview was also rescheduled but they were later permitted to go and snap passports. please cum with your 2 x 2 white backgroung passport, up to 4 copies to avoid such trouble.

Sorry this is coming very late but it is because of some exigencies.
My visa was approved yesterday 3rd December. My interview time was 10am.
I arrived at the embassy around 9.15am. One of the policemen on duty at the gate almost got me off my foot when I asked the way i should into the embassy. he told me i was already late but i should go and try my luck. On getting to the gate, the attendant there told me that those for 10am appointment are told to wait outside until 9.30am. This gave me a big relief. So before you ask questions, try to ask a reliable source to avoid unnecessary panic. At 9.30am, we were ushered in under tight security one after the other. The attendant collected my appointment letter and tore off the front page, gave back the remaining pages to me. She also gave me a blue card and some papers for payment. Please, try and keep those papers intact. They will ask for it later. From that point, i passed through four security gate, the last one being an automated scanner. Please avoid coming to the embassy with powder, liquids, make-ups, snacks, metal objects and phones because you won't be allowed to take them in and disposing of such may cause you some panic. I dropped my phones and other gadgets at home before coming. At the last door, i was issued a number B429. After some time, my name was called and i was asked to go and make payments before the submission of documents. After that, my documents were submitted and then waited for the interview proper.
the interview came around past eleven or some minutes before twelve.
Before the interview, i saw the CO, a beautiful black lady, scrutinizing my degree certificate, he even called another CO to help him do that, the man immediately confirmed to him that the seal is for authentication. I think that was because my certificate has some seals from the federal ministry of education, abuja, when i intended going to austria for my masters. Not quite long, my number beeped at that window and the interview went thus:
CO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
CO: Are you blah blah?
Me: yes
CO: Do you swear to say the truth
Mes: Yes, yes
CO; ok, sign this form
Me: signed
CO: i want to take your fingerprints
Me: i obliged
CO: have you traveled out of Nigeria before? (I know it was because of the seal on all my certificates from the ministry that made her ask that)
Me: No, i haven't
CO: cool, what is your highest level of education
Me: University degree in blah blah blah
CO: sorry please, started discussing with another CO, after some time, he called the short form of my first name, nonso. at that point, i suspected she is ibo. when did you finish your university education?
Me: 2011
CO: Have you done your NYSC?
Me: yes
CO: where?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: What was your primary assignment?
Me: Teaching
CO: what did you teach?
Me: biology and chemistry
CO: what was the age of your students?
Me: smiles, say between 15 - 18 years, the normal age of ss3 students
CO: good. what are you doing now?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: where?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: Are you married?
Me: No, of course, am single
CO: have you any kid?
Me: smiles, not all
CO: you have satisfied me, you visa has been approved. brought two white papers and started explaining about how to pay USCIS fee and how to pick up visa. I was happy, though i was listening to her but happiness couldn't allow me to hear her well unlike when she was interviewing me.

So, my fellow forumites help me thank God. I equally pray that the God that did it for me will do so for all of you. the VISA is all yours in the mighty name of JESUS! Amen.
