It has become trite to associate every bad and black with Nigeria. This prejudiced thinking is so common place that you would think that only the worst of men originate from here. I recently came across this "Winning Story Entry" on WorldPress Photo Site. The photographs in question were taken in 2011. I find it absurd firstly that the documentary portrays the patrons of these Se*x workers as so "Se*x starved that they do are ready to hump anywhere...bushes, wheatfields e.t.c gosh. so much for civilizations. The introductory narration goes thus: Roadside prostitution in Italy is conducted primarily by migrant sex workers. Some of the women are victims of trafficking—they have been deceived by criminal gangs into coming to Italy, lured by promises of legitimate jobs. Others have willingly been smuggled into the country, but find prostitution the only way that they can earn enough money to send back to their families, or to pay back the thousands of euros they owe to smugglers. And thereafter such picture captions as: Sharon, a Nigerian sex worker, sits on her makeshift bed in the countryside outside Rome. Dona, a sex worker from Nigeria, stands beside her mattress in bushes outside Rome A mat used by sex workers, in a wooded area on the outskirts of Rome. Makena, from Nigeria, sits on her mattress in the woods outside Rome. An open-air room used by sex workers, in a field on the fringes of Rome. The link to the site is: http://www.worldpressphoto.org/awards/2013/daily-life/paolo-patrizi/12?gallery=6096 Well some pix here and you can share your thoughts.

Warren Buffet Is Asking Everyone To Forward This Email Warren Buffet is asking everyone to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people. In three days, most people in the U.S. will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. We're ALL in this mess together ... it's up to us to fix it ... for our kids! Read and pass on to 20 of your friends... Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling ... "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that any time there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election." The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2012 1. No Tenure/No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS! If you agree, pass it on. If not, delete. You are one of my 20+ ... please keep it going, and thanks! Read more: http://www.wfmd.com/pages/faithdebate.html?article=10568762#ixzz2Cb5Ne9xU |
This is a masterpiece in terms of the logical progression and articulation of your thoughts. It's very instructive that not one reply has been posted since this first written. Kudos to you and thanks for helping to shed light on a very difficult but necessary decision. Regards |
interesting. Would like to know the details of this patent. Which geographical area does it cover? reading this it seems more like the company is trying to enforce a license rather than patents. When did the biodata of the whole Nigeria become a patentable asset by an individual. Smell some ulterior motive here, A rat? |
Can you imagine this reverse 419 in our own country, how can we be the mugus and magas ? |
missy b this is kool. can I have some burito sandwich with tuna fillings. Some soda to cool it down will be great |
benabbey:On the spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
This is sad really. Though in accepting this attitude could make a lot of difference. For someone it could be a stepping stone to better things because of the opportunity it presents to associate with a big brand, It primarily depends on the individual. My own two cents is if it is not acceptable let that be the motivation to launch out on your own and be an entrepeneur. You just might make difference for yourself! I am of the sound opinion that in Nigeria we still don't understand customer service and it is an opportunity that can yield significant dividends. |
Mr. Goodluck Jonathan has announced his 13-month Federal Executive council and there are now joy and jubilation in some parts of the country and weeping and gnashing of teeth in others. To those weeping I say "weep not child." To those celebrating I say "not so fast." My reasons for the advice I give is because in a democracy a minister's power is defuse just like his president's. The real power is not in the laws or authority of the ministry but in the CHARACTER of the holder of the office. A minister can and often is malleable and everybody knows this. That is why we have lobbyists who are paid highly to mold the minister and president to the liking of a constituency. All Nigerians, those rejoicing and those weeping, ought to pay attention and learn from this lesson being taught by Mr. Obi Nwakanma: "…I personally do not think that these so-called "Igbo ministers" speak for me. The fact that they are Igbo is purely accidental. Perhaps on occasion, they may quibble about regional balance, but there is no evidence that we have these guys speaking specifically about Igbo matters, nor should we in good conscience expect them to. What the Igbo must do is to clearly identify and articulate what constitutes "Igbo interests" and make certain that whoever is in charge - Igbo or not - does not mess with it…" The last sentence is the lesson. Clearly identify and articulate what constitutes your interest and make certain that whoever is in charge does not mess with it. Wherever Mr. Nwakanma has used Igbo please feel free to substitute Ijaw, Tiv, Urhobo, Efik or what have you. The rule is universal. A Jew has never been a president of the United States but look and see who gets the cream de la crème of America 's largesse. Look at some of the antecedents. Mrs. Allison Madueke is/was from the Delta and lives in SE by marriage and was the minister of works. Her people needed/need Lagos – Benin – Onitsha road. It was bad before she took office it was bad during her tenure and is bad as we speak. Mr. Anenih was the minister of works before her and he too was from the Delta and the road passes by his house. He did not do anything about it. SE had the last three or four federal ministers of education. But when Colleges of Technologies were converted to Universities not one from SE was converted even though SE ministers were in charge during the planning, approval and implementation of the conversion. Oil ministers have come from SS and from the North. But no matter who has been in charge SS has not been developed. The bulk of the money has been carted away from the country to numbered bank accounts elsewhere and the little left in Nigeria has been spent everywhere but SS. The lesson is that the fact that Mr. Jonathan is from SS and Mrs. Madueke is from SS does not mean that SS would now become Singapore . The people of SS must listen to Mr. Nwakanma. The fact that the aviation ministry has gone to SE does not ensure that Enugu Airport would now become an international airport. SE people must pay close attention to Mr. Nwakanma's lecture. SW now has the finance ministry. If any south westerner thinks that the allocation formula would now forward unlimited amounts of cash to develop Lagos , please be warned. Pay attention to Mr. Nwakanma's lecture. Ditto for every Nigerian from every part of the country. If you do not know what you want, how would you know when you find it? Former Nigeria Super Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu, has demanded a compensation of 300 million naira (about $2 million) from the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) after he was demoted last month to take charge of the B-team home based Eagles. In a report posted on MTNFootball.com, Amodu, who was replaced by the Swede Lars Lagerback, is asking for 135 million naira for the remaining part of his contract, which was to have ended in July. He is also asking for another 165 million naira as a bonus for qualifying Nigeria to the 2010 World Cup. Amodu has already taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). Ironically, Amodu also qualified the Super Eagles to the 2002 World Cup but was axed after a squabble with the country’s top officials, allowing Adeboye Onigbinde to lead Nigeria to the World Cup. Source: nigeria2day@aol.com This is very much welcome. The NFA needs to be used as an example to show that Nigerians cannot be treated as second fiddle in their own country. Tell me if you give the man just half of what lagerback is earning whether he will not hyper perform and deliver. |
Interesting thread. The two sites each have their own unique and distinct blend of fun. FB only allows my own people to see my shit except I join a group, NL is open where I can see what everyone on the forum is thinking, and it's a more naija focused perspective. So depends on what I am looking for, |
Do keep it up, See you at the top. Saw on another thread that you are willing to teach others. I believe so much in that when it is freely given, Is your training free? I understand that people will like to make money from their trade but I still think there should be room to mentor others pro bono cos it helps to bring out the best sort of. |
@Ugo, you really have some swag, cool to know your stuff . Great Job Just curious, how did you acquire your skills? Training at NIIT? Self Help? Tutoring/Mentoring? Can you show us the ropes? |
@Ugo, you really have some swag, cool to know your stuff . Great Job |
I cannot see any innovative or novel solution from your website, What exactly is the company into? don't look interesting at all. ![]() |
Nice guide. samosward:whats the price for the 500g? Do you have the 1 Terrabyte Drive? |
akenzua_II:so what design are you thinking of? for free? |
I think you need to consider the law of energy that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can only be transformed from one form to the other. By virtue of the startup motor, you are introducing energy into the system. By virtue of the AC output you have taken same out. So where will the power be to sustain the setup? |
Hei Folks, Been a while I checked this thread out. Really it's fun to read all the comments since, While I noticed that the views and replies are not many I am still happy that there is that few that are interested. Like I said in my earlier posts, I still believe in collaboration. As a people it is so evident that we find it hard to do this except for the arts where they are forced to work in groups; believe you me, we can do this and possibly like someone said, let's give it a try and start a dedicated site or forum for this sole purpose of stirring up a people that can design hardware and software. While we may not always get components, there could be simulators that we can use, where we cannot get simulators maybe it will be fun developing one ourselves. I do not really know where all this will end but really I am everyday getting concerned with the fact that of all the factors/resources for production, human resource is still the most critical because it is from the imaginations of man that every other facet of production derives. Guys, I dont know how, I don't know where, but one thing am sure of is that if we come together in anyway, we can leverage our strengths and mitigate our weaknesses. I once read somewhere that by sharing your knowledge or teaching others, you actually are improving your own understanding. Of course in Nigeria, when you talk of invention because of the level of development, we are usually forced to work individually, but that has since changed with the internet that now allows people to network unlimitedly, who knows if we start something here, we might even be able to create a free or open source movement to help us drive technology transfer, I am sure that if we create our pedestal for Africa or Nigeria and make enough noise we just might be able to attract the attention of the great geeks in technology who savor the sharing of knowledge for knowledge sake and to better humanity. |
seedord247:Cant see the link here, am lost |
@Biina and @Beaf you guys are really great guys in your own individual rights cos you both helped us to see matters from both sides of the coin. I am however appalled at how you have allowed the differences in your opinion to degenerate into a personal level where you are not taking snipes at each other. Please it is not acceptable and debases both of you. This somewhat epitomises our significant problem in Nigeria where to find people to collaborate effectively is a big challenge. There will always be difference of opinion but the example of the rainbow shows we can have a blend where all the opinions unite and point us to the pure divine the truth, the light that shines out the darkness of ignorance, Guys, I wish to aknowledge your contributions and give a toast to your uniqueness, Anyone supports me, please give a toast to this too, a new beginning of mutually benefically collaboration and discourse. Now my point of interest, I hate people who talk to much, what actions can we elicit from all this discussions? I have come to a point where I believe, find the right people with the right ideas, we should be able to get the bulldozers to bring focus to the ideas because ideas alone don't move mountains of corruption and ineptitude, executors do. |
Yes great speech, we only get the necessary motivation when we discuss. hence the reason for this thread, how can we trigger meaningfull competitions that showcases individual ingenuity? can we strategise as a people to encourage one another, to inspire each other to be a better person. Apparently from the trail on this mail itis not really a popular topic, but still we need to push it for people to aspire to use their talents for the greater good and to disccover better ways of doing things. As the first members of our constituency, the responsibility is on us to actually explore our environment so we can tell others of the beauty and gifts that nature has blessed us with. Thanks for the thought, really, it means a lot. |
Hei People this a great post. I think we can create more fun if we can develop a team that will collaborate for the fun of it and to compete together to bring out the best in us. I had always thought that you should be able to do semiconductor development as a country but seeing things from a different perspective now , i don't think it is a bad idea if you can come up with the design and get someone else to do the manufacturing, thats what happens with most companies in US where they design and ship to asian countries to manufacture. We do not have to be fixated in our approach. I'd rather that our focus be to get more people to buy into our hobby with passion so we can have a critical mass of people that are knowledgeable. I heard say that Microsoft Window 7 was developed by over 20,000 people making inputs to the project, you can imagine the amount of intellectual firepower that is, two good heads will always be better than one, it's time we collaborate to improve our lot and skills as a team |
What have I done? not much for a very long time. I just signed off. But I am back to reliving those dreams. I once built a robot structure when I was ten which I was hoping to complete and fabricate. I never got to finish it due to some exigencies, another story in its own rights. Really why am i bringing this up? I just discovered that life at its best is so short. So I want to look beyond my immediate needs and think long term, to do something that I can look back in time and have a smile on my face. Like I said, I am looking for people of like minds and asking what can be done to create a critical mass of people that can push the kind of change that I envisage - a Nigeria where we would be able to unleash and tap the intellectual potentials of people and push ourselves to limits we have not yet reached before. I once read an article describing the real academicians who for the sake of recognition push themselves and seek for new knowledge to be published in top journals for free the only catch being that you must be knowledgeable to appreciate the knowledge they are dispensing else it looks like gibberish to any other layman. One thing I am certain of is that in the search for a solution, we Nigerians are the only one that can help ourselves because we need to know what we really NEED so we can ask the right questions and seek the right help. What are your own thots on the matter.? |
Thanks for your response. My general concept is to build a goods/services marketing site. will have pictures of the goods i.e. first load will be low resolution, details to pop when you hover on the low resolution pictures, I need to log the visitors to the site to track the preferences, There should be voting buttons to rate or rank acceptability of the products, also indexing and search facilities to enable users find what they need easily. The indexes could be multiple tags to track the various possible groups or categories that is applicable to an item. I will like to support google adsense, , as well as site statistics. Being a user driven site, will like to have customisable surveys come up periodically, blah blah , what do you think |
Gee, sounds like a great idea. Do you have sites that you have developed as references. I will like to take up your offer on a database driven site though because of my concept. How do we arrange a meet/ discussion of my concept? |
I agree very much with you that it seems the fervor to study and apply the knowledge is really dying out. what I see is so just a crass pursuit of financial gain at whatever cost. It's painful but the truth remains that some still cherish that satisfaction that comes from achieving your purpose and doing things right, I am interested in finding people like that who wish to still chase that dream, there could be some power in numbers when we have people of like minds. |
Nice thread, I wish to see more of collaboration for intellectual and creative purposes without any hint of financial gain. it will be good to just work together to help another improve our knowledge. Any ideas on good simulation softwares and tutorials? |
That Nigerian leaders are looters and selfish with no pretense at serving the populace but rather lording it over them is no news. In my opinion this is a minor evil compared to the millions of Nigerian human capital resource and talent that is being wasted. I wish there was a means to quantify in the monetary terms that these looters are so wont to feast upon just how much more gains is being frittered away in the millions of abandoned dreams, projects and derailed visions of a disillusioned populace. |
I had fun studying physics and chemistry in secondary school because it all made sense. One thing that still puzzles me is that with all the knowledge of physics and chemistry we never really are able to practicalise things in this country. Can we go to the basics and apply this knowledge for ourselves or we will forever be limited to speaking theoretically? why can't we device our own test equipments and laboratories? must we always have to import things? , all questions begging for an answer and a solution. |
The best things in life indeed are freely given by God and the best of all the resources in my opinion continues to be the human factor definitely not the money or the natural resources. Why? Because only the man can orchestrate designs that will effectively utilize all the other resources to achieve a purpose. In my mind, I theorize that if only the men can be united in a single purpose on a clear vision, with time any goal is achievable. I have heard all the complaints of how bad our country is, from the looting politicians to the insufferable antics of the policemen and ineffective courts of law, leaving me earnestly seeking for a savior to end all this mess. I keep asking myself if there is anything about being born black that implies that we cannot really surmount the challenges and limitations we encounter. That we do not have a state that thinks about our welfare is no news but who defines the state? My pain as a person continues to be the millions of human potentials that are currently being wasted without batting an eye in this country Nigeria. How can we really harness this great potential if our leaders have failed us in doing this and would rather fight and hold on to power tenaciously to share the oil loot? A friend once said that the strategy is to out-plan and outperform the oppressors in terms of adding actions to our convictions. I fantasize on this theory of mine that maybe the vision for the biblical tower of Babel was initiated by the black men and God had to confuse both their language and their thoughts so that even if they speak the same English they will still understand it differently and will ever be suspicious of one another. How else can we explain the fact that the principled and God-fearing men – I don’t mean Pastors and Imams but each of us that believe in righteousness and uphold the tenets of honesty, integrity and responsibility- in this country can never come together as one voice to take a stand for the truth. So many lone stars all trying to shine in their own little way, I wonder if the developments the western nations has brought to the world will have been possible if each person did not contribute their quota as the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase on the whole possible in the bigger picture. Maybe it’s a black thing, a curse maybe, I don’t know but I long for the day that black people will be willing to work , live and die to uplift humanity, to encourage healthy competitions, effective collaboration, free enterprise, and make the world a better place than they met it. We have so many charlatans parading themselves as philanthropists and public servants, singing loud praises of their so called achievements to improve their environment, even elected officials using our public funds to help us indeed in their magnanimity. Sorry if I have offended anyone but I just needed to offload some of these thoughts off my mind…what do you think? |
