History has shown how such wars are fought. The US and USSR warred other through all sorts of proxy battles in places like Cuba, Afghanistan etc; you arm your allies to grapple and scrap, that way you avoid the nuclear button in an unwinnable war.
This time the battlefields will be countries with rich oil and mineral reserves.

Music/Radio / Re: Is Fela Really A Nigerian Icon by elcij(m): 4:21pm On Aug 05, 2011
It really is true that a prophet is never accepted in his own land. Sticking to just the musical side of Fela, why do folks consider Bob Marley an icon? Tupac? Biggy?
We nigerians dont really appreciate the treasure we had in Fela, its foreigners as usual that are immortalizing him. Give them time, they will soon bastardize his message and claim it for themselves and we will all be looking shocked when our children think Fela was pro west. Just watch.

Fela is an icon, if only for his

I could go on, but the truth is if you're not ready to understand Fela's message no amount of yarns will change that.

He was not a saint and no man is. Take what you will from his message and ignore the rest.

And just to clarify Fela created afrobeat. Tony Allen was very instrumental in creating the drum patterns. Tony Allen does not claim that he invented afrobeat.
Politics / Re: Al-mustapha Needs Psychiatric Attention – Ige’s Son by elcij(m): 12:03pm On Aug 04, 2011
Al Mustapha claims about some "leaders" collecting money to keep silent is most likely true, however the circumstances surrounding his "revelations" are very suspect and everyone should be careful before they are "unwittingly" used to destabilize the country.

Lets face it, how many of you will sit in prison for years while you have evidence that someone else committed the crimes you are accused of? And if you kept silent for years why start talking now? What does Al Mustapha stand to gain from this in the long run?

By all standards, Africa is so backward that we tend to look big.

How is that, pls explain? undecided

My friend its not compulsory you must critique, the word if is used to describe future events  that are under probability. The blue star consortium deal flopped because of if's in the mind of labour and the nigerian populace. Please I am tired of replying people who have no knowledge of economics and the workings of supply and demand. I want someone with in depth knowledge of economics, finance and borrowing and how it affects the subject to say something

I beg you o, I am proudly nigerian.   grin grin grin

LOL you funny gan! FYI my first degree is Economics with a very heavy focus on macroeconmics. No need to argue about importance or relative size of the economy, accurate statistics and facts are freely available online.

With regards to your comments on the word "if" thanks for the clarification. Now, IF you use the probability of a random event as support for a position, I can equally use that same IF to support a very different position. IF Adenuga does X does not mean Adenuga WILL do X. Neither can such random IF's be used to justify anything.

Now to our discourse, Mike Adenuga can decide to increase renting rate to use his backbone which is a nitel's asset and at the same time keep glo call rate low thereby forcing nigerians to migrate to his network and eventually suffocating other networks out of business even the mighty MTN.

What of his gas field, please do the math if sometime in the future he wakes up one morning and decides to shut down operations for some reasons known to him, imagine what will happen to our power stations, electricity generation and eventually us the end users?

I stand by my earlier IF though I will rephrase:

Now to our discourse, The Federal government/shell/chevron or any other dominating firm in any sector can wake up one morning and decide to shutdown operations for some reasons known to them, imagine what will happen to our power stations, electricity generation and eventually us the end users?

Such probabilities cannot be used as justification for anything. Will you refuse to marry because of: what if my wife cheats on me? or what if my in-laws become unmanageable?

blink182:

What you have said makes little sense, we can not put so much in the hands of one man in such a small almost unregulated economy.

A good example of things going wrong from an act that was suppose to be good was the artificial scarcity of dollars that made the dollars gain N30 or so against the naira on the black market whereas official rate was still N149 but only a few that were rightly positioned could access it at that rate.

First you call the Nigerian economy small. By what standards please? Its one of the largest and most important both in Africa and the world then you start with such far fetched "what ifs". What if the federal government/shell/chevron or any other dominating firm in any sector wakes up one morning and decides to shutdown operations for some reasons known to them, imagine what will happen to our power stations, electricity generation and eventually us the end users?

Next you start yarning dust about running MTN out of business Gerrout of here! You and your south african bosom buddies have been milking and disrespecting Nigeria and Nigerians for too long. In fact if only to run MTN out of Naija, I support Adenuga 100%.

Believe this: At the current stage our developing economy is in, anything that raises the level of competition is great for Nigerians.

Nigerian economy. Nigerian owned businesses. Nigerian controlled industries.

Which growth? . What exactly is attractive in NITEL?. It is a dead company for Gods sake and I do believe he is only buying their fixed assets which will surely enrich his estate business.

The reason you (and I) don't know what's still attractive about NITEL is the same reason why this guy is worth billions and can afford to spend $450m to buy what we consider a rundown company.

Even dead companies have tremendous value in the right hands. I know there are business men who specialize in buying such companies and making profit of them.
Politics / Re: Suspected Boko Haram Agent Arrested In Ibadan by elcij(m): 12:59pm On Aug 01, 2011
I was in Ibadan recently and I had a long discussion with someones driver. The man is a former muslim, converted to christianity (Celestial Church).
During that conversation, Boko Haram came up and he mentioned that the word in town among Ibadan christians is that Boko Haram has begun to infiltrate Ibadan. He also said that as a former muslim activist, that he feels confident that the rumors are true.

He also said that a network of ibadan christians has been created. That they patrol churches, that the pastors remind parishoners every day to be vigilant especially around churches, places of government and buildings owned by christian churches like schools and such.

I did not believe him then but now I wonder if we will not be facing a full on religious war if things continue escalating. The Ibadan christians are not waiting for government to protect them. They've built their own security network.

Does anyone understand the significance of this? I'm worried for Nigerians.

Politics / Re: Buhari Rejected Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala As Running Mate by elcij(m): 12:13pm On Mar 30, 2011
You are all assuming Okonjo-Iweala asked for or would have accepted to be a running mate to Buhari or anyone else. This issue is not as relevant as you would initially believe.

She's a decent, well educated person and the sad thing is that most of those kinds of people avoid elected political office in Nigeria (which is what Pat Utomi is trying to change).

I will spell out what I'm saying again: It does not appear that she asked to be Buhari's running mate, or that she would have accepted (for whatever reasons) to be his running mate if offered the post. Her name was simply suggested.

And lets be frank, how many Nigerians (especially women) will really vote for another woman as a potential president now that it's clearer that VP's really are replacements after Jonathan,

Speaking at the international conference on Libya in London (Tue 29th March 2011 )  the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that allied air strikes would go on in Libya until Moamer Kadhafi:

1. met UN terms
2. stopped attacking civilians and
3. allowed in humanitarian aid.

This is really serious because i do not see Moamer Kadhafi yeilding to these demands, where do you think it will end?

It will end with Ghaddafi killed like a a stray dog, not even with the semi-decency Saddam got, pretty quickly I think. Its either the rebels get him or one of his own inner circle get him first,
Religion / Re: Let's Discuss Bible Prophecies by elcij(m): 10:20am On Mar 30, 2011
Joagbaje:

THE BIRTH OF A NATION

CAN A NATION BE BORN IN ONE DAY?

When israel was declared a nation in 1948. It took the world by surprise . Because the name of Israel had been wiped off the map of the world according to prophecy of the bible. They had changed the name of the land to Palestine .for about 2000 years,Israel had ceased to be a nation

Psalms 83:4
4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from [being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

Even theologians had given up on israel , but when it happened ,historians couldnt believe their ears. Israel had been scattered all over the earth. Not only that, they were been slaughtered in many nation. Hitler killed millions of them .The name of their land had been changed to Palestine by the ottoman empire, and they brought Arabs to occupy that land. They had no more homeland .there was no way Israel could exist again. But in 1948 , the prophecy came to pass. It was never done in history that a nation who's name had been wiped off resurrects again.

The bible had predicted that God would scatter them if they remain stubborn . They did and he did. By AD 70 . The Romans invaded and destroyed Israel. After that several nations came and did their own destruction. Until the name was removed from world map. After much suffering by many of them in several nations even though some prospered earlier. They began to return to their homeland who's name had been changed to Palestine land .

How did this happen
After the defeat of Hitler's Third Reich the United Nations in November 1947 passed the "Resolution For the Partition of Palestine," granting a portion to the Jews, a portion to the Arabs, and internationalizing Jerusalem. The Arabs rejected the plan. The Jews did not like the plan but accepted it, believing 'half a loaf to be better than none.

Although they may not know it, the nations jointly, by doing so, have set themselves on a collision course with  the prophecy of the bible in Joel

Joel 3:1
For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations. . . and will plead with them there for my people and [for] my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

Some of these parted land  were miraculously recovered from  Egypt Jordan Judea and Samaria as well as east Jerusalem containing the Temple Mount.  When the arab gathered to fight the small returnees of Israel so that they could finally eliminate them ,The world was watching but couldnt do anything to save israel. Israel only fought to defend themselves and miraculously they did without help. Not only did they survive, miraculously also they recovered some of the parted land from the Arabs . It was then the world moved in for peace and demanded that israel should returned some of the land conquered . But they are yet to have full claim of Jerusalem now. That is the present conflict they face now.

Isaiah 66:8
8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? [or] shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

. . . But the nation was born in one day.
. . .

Who says the bible is not inspired of God?

I hope you are aware that Jews, the Israelites, do not believe that your Jesus is the Christ, the messiah or what ever? As far as they are concerned you christians are all heathens, idol worshipers and generally misguided souls, just saying, thats how the Israelites you are championing see you, seriously, no joke, read about it, dem no send you, at all, in fact they only tolerate you because you spend money to visit your "holy sites" and they need your support against the muslims,

Religion / Re: Nigerians And God (a Must Read!) by elcij(m): 12:21pm On Mar 28, 2011
I think "God" is one of the biggest problems we have in Nigeria and I'll explain: Young, intelligent, active men and women in Nigeria today will rather "pray for God to help us" than actually take concrete and decisive actions to help themselves and others.

Billions are pumped into churches for fueling pastors private jets, tv programs, revivals, camps, and all sorts of economic sinks rather than invested in entrepreneurial activities that will gainfully employ people and contribute to the economy. If you understand what I'm saying cool, if you don't please don't preach to me, I can guarantee it will fall on deaf ears,

religion is a problem in this country.
