PoliticsRe: Seizure Of 130 Houses Sparks Protest In Lagos by Elgeeone: 4:48pm On Aug 29, 2011
Let me give the correct information here because I am a land owner in the area and is also affected by the development. Over 80% of Landlords in the area are Yorubas, so this is not an Igbo affair, as some have sought to portray it. Mr. iwuchukwu just happens to be a lawyer and chairman of the CDA. That is why he is the spokesperson. Indeed, the collaboration between all affected tribes in this matter (without reference to any primordial sentiments) shows that when our hard earned resources are affected, this usual but unfortunate resort to tribalism takes a back seat.

The fact is that this is a dispute between 2 families. The landlords in this case bought their land not from any developer but from one of the families at a time when there was no dispute on the land. Some went ahead to obtain C of O on the land and even sell to other people. Others bulit multi-millon naira edifies on the land. Nobody ever came to disturb tham. The whole area is almost completely built-up. It is not virgin land. The landlords were never party to the case in court between these two families. Infact, there is little wonder why the case was not given any serious defence - the family that sold had sold all the land, hence they no longer had any interest to protect. You can therefore imagine the consternation of the landlords upon waking up one morning to have their propertyies placed under lock and key by a band of hoodlums on the basis of a purported court judgment. The little I know of Nigerian law, no court can deprive a man of his property (or interest thereon) without affording him a hearing.

PoliticsRe: Fashola Approves Construction Of N2.8bn Ejigbo-ajao Bridge. Eko O Ni Baje O. by Elgeeone: 10:51am On Aug 03, 2011
Seven months after, we are still awaiting the smallest sign that any such construction was ever approved by Government! In the interim, rapacious landlords on both sides of the divide have since constrcuted a wooden bridge accross the canal with pedestrians made to pay to cross! I bet the nexttime you hear of this "bridge" will be during the run-up to the 2015 elections!
