boss buys off govt’s 7-day
old N13m SUV as scrap,
paying N150, 000
PREMIUM TIMES had on August 6
reported how a former Corps Marshal of
the Federal Road Safety Commission,
FRSC, Haladu Hananiya, paid N150,000
for a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV
worth N13 million.
Mr. Hananiya is alleged to have used his
position as former Chairman, Governing
Council of the Adamawa State
University, ADSU, to convert the vehicle
to his personal property.
The university bought the vehicle on
January 28, 2015, several months after
the former FRSC boss ceased to be
chairman of the institution’s board.
Seven days later, the car was passed to
Mr. Hananiya who bought it off as scrap,
paying a only N150, 000.
Mr. Hananiya was appointed chairman
of ADSU governing council on August 16,
2014.
About two months into his four-year
tenure; the state government sacked the
board on October 8, 2014.
Investigation showed that the vehicle
was purchased from AS Galadima
Motors, located at Dawaki Junction,
opposite Charley Boy Bus Stop, Kubwa
Express Way, Abuja, with receipt
number 0006 and sales invoice no: 0106.
A petition sent to the EFCC said that
prior to Mr. Hananiya’s appointment,
the university’s management passed a
resolution empowering principal officers
to retain official vehicles after paying
the scrap value of N150, 000.
“Principal officers are entitled to retain
their official vehicles once during their
tenures after paying the scrap value of
N150, 000; and if for any reason an
officer leaves office after spending two
years or half of the tenure, he shall pay
the scrap value of N150, 000,”

The Federal Polytechnic, Mubi,
Adamawa State, closed in October, 2014,
in the wake of Boko Haram invasion of
the town, has re-opened for academic
work, the Director of Information and
Protocol, Philip Ndalamu, has said.
Mr. Ndalamu said this in Yola on
Sunday, saying lectures would
commence Monday.
“We reopened three weeks ago and the
staff have equally resumed work.
Arrangements have been put in place for
students who have been returning to
commence lectures on Monday,” Mr.
Ndalamu said.
Mr. Ndalamu said major repair works on
structures damaged by the insurgents
had been concluded.
The College of Health Technology, Mubi,
similarly closed during the insurgency
reopened three months ago.
But Adamawa State University, also
located in the town, has yet to resume.
Although workers of the university have
resumed, repair work on damaged
infrastructure is still on.
The insurgents had damaged basic
infrastructure in the university. (NAN)

President Goodluck Jonathan has visited Mubi in Adamawa State, more than three months after Nigerian troops recaptured the town from the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

The president arrived Yola international airport at about 10.45a.m. Thursday, accompanied by the by chief of Air Defence staff and all the service chiefs and the inspector general of police. He later travelled by helicopter to Mubi.

At Mubi, Mr. Jonathan met with the Emir of Mubi, Isa Ahamadu, and the people of the area.
There were unconfirmed reports that the president visited Vintim village in Mubi, the home town of Nigeria’s Defence Chief, Alex Badeh.

But security sources told PREMIUM TIMES that from Mubi, Mr. Jonathan was to travel to Baga in neighbouring Borno State.

Baga was reclaimed by government troops last week after Boko Haram militants overran the town killing hundreds and displacing thousands.
Mr. Jonathan and his administration have been widely criticised for their handling of the Boko Haram crisis, and the failure of the government to stem attacks against civilians.

Ahead of elections, the government has apparently stepped up effort against the terror group with multiple towns liberated by soldiers.
The government has also announced new measures to raise the morale of its combat forces.

On Wednesday, the Army Chief, Kenneth Minimah, visited Baga where he announced that troops who liberated the town will be automatically promoted to the next rank.

A top security chief in Borno state who spoke on anonymity said Mr. Jonathan was heading to Baga, but refused to give further details.
“Of course the president will be going to Baga today but the trip is not being handled by us here. I believe it is not something big but just a confidence building visit for the troops,” the source said.

Mr. Minima, a Lieutenant General, had said during his visit Wednesday that given the successes achieved by the troops in Baga, the president might likely visit the troops.
