mcyemite: When you say someone got all wrong, you could make effort to show wetin person get wrong na brother. It is well known that manufacturers use different components and material in DIFERENT REGIONAL MARKET in their product. Here are a few factual examples, abeg look them up any time. Honda engines in Japan have emission that do not meet the standards of the of UK. If you can be bothered to read, here's a link to back up my statement http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_imports.html Read up heading that says "SafeGuard" and "Grey imports". It is not that Honda is cutting corner as you post was saying but they make cars for a region based on the laws and economic factors there. We hardly have emission laws in naija or enforce strict rules as to what a car can emit per combustion or something. So why would Honda now spend loads of money or a new and loose market? This same approach is seen in phones. BlackBerry and Samsung phones for Asia and Africa market are lighter in terms of weight and feels like cost saving materials were used. Don't get me wrong. The accord will be good for Nigeria road but if I have a choice, I'll pick an imported one any time. Heck, if I have money, I will import my cars from America and Japan for use here in UK and Naija because their cars got better specification than their UK counterparts. 1 Like |

elantraceey: It is a common misconception to think that locally made goods are just as good as their imported counterpart. In this case, I will pick an imported accord over the naija made one. Here are my reasonings: Manufacturing standards of where the imported Accord are made are higher and more stringent than the ones here. The top of the range of the naija made accord will not be able to stand next to say a Yankee or UK spec. Well, they can park next to each other but the imported one will have better options and extras. The new accord made in naija isn't exactly new accord. Allow me to explain o before una bite my head off. The naija accord is probably based on an existing or older platform. No way Honda will go to the drawing table and design one from scratch for an emerging markets because the cost is probably too much and the locals do not have enough money or purchasing powers to buy it even if Honda were to go ahead and make one. With regards to emission laws, UK, US et al have one of the stringent requirements around. Over here, there is probably nothing to stop the manufacturer cutting corners. So yes you can have two identical cars but different engines when it comes to emission. Etc. Abeg make I stop. Mind you, I am not saying it is a bad thing that Honda is making or assembling cars in naija but let's not fool ourselves and think that it is on the same level as the imported ones. Lol. Them no dey the same level rara at all. 4 Likes |

Car Talk / Re: Murano, Element Or Highlander? by ElRazur: 9:20am On Jul 04, 2015 |
steffans: As stated in the OP, I believe that Murano is actually reliable. However the issue of poor servicing and use of incorrect or inferior parts by the end user is probably why it has a bad reputation. Why are you against the Honda Element? Why do you like the Toyota as the better option of the 3? |

What are you reasons na and any common issues or fault with your choice of SUV model? |
Car Talk / Murano, Element Or Highlander? by ElRazur: 10:39am On Jul 01, 2015 |
Hey guys, which of these car would you recommend and why? If you can also point out the common issues with them I go appreciate am. Thanks gan in advance. I have narrowed my choices down to these 3 SUVs because I don't spend more than three weeks in naija and probably for three or two times a year. During the times I am not around it would be used like once or twice a month for short journeys. That's it. I like the Murano because of the sporty look and refined interior. Probably the best looking car out of the bunch. However I am weary of reports of CvT issues. (From what I can gather, it appears to be poor user maintenance issue in naija mostly). I like the Element for the boxy and manly looks. I just like that it is a no nonsense approach to off roading (Admittedly it is not a proper off roading car). Also you have the Honda reliability which is an added bonus. Oh they are cheap too and people think they are ugly (this mean my car no go get stolen) Toyota Highlander is a good one too. It has the same reliability as Honda and probably more popular. So what do you guys recommend abeg. Thanks in advance. PS It would be nice to hear from Sienna if he still post here. Thanks. |

Politics / Has Nairaland Improved With Quality Posts And Topics? by ElRazur: 5:07am On Jun 28, 2015 |
Hey, I am one of the old poster/forumite here who went AWOL after getting fed up with the numbers of trolls, immaturity on display etc and generally driving down the quality of things to read (and partly down to other reasons of being busy in real life etc). I came across this site again while researching for a particular car - Nissan Murano. I actually got some helpful information from owners and those who had first hand experience. I think this is good. So all of these got me thinking if there has been an improvement overall (when compared to years back) or is it the same old Nairaland? What are these improvements that you have noticed and perhaps, what could be improved. Abeg, let's hear from you all. 1 Like |

Owobokri, I'm using my tablet so I gonna keep it short. Missiles with powerful warhead can sink most carrier. However, you need to beat the onboard counter-missile defence System. Also most carrier are built to withstand direct hit - HMS invincible of the UK navy took a direct missile hit during the Falklands war with Argentina. The US also admitted that china may not be telling the truth as per their military budget, but fact remains that USA is ahead. PS IDF have shield system that shoot missile down. Basically it is a gun that fires multiple bullet at an incoming missile while tracking it. USA have an advanced version of this too. Oh recently US army shot down an hyper-rocket using laser (one of the most difficult weapon to make). Video on YouTube or popsci. |

^^ I just see things for what they are. She was in my opinion, a vulnerable woman from a broken home. Also her addiction didn't really helped her at all. She was (again in my opinion) exploited by her boyfriend. Her management appeared to did all they could but the drug got the better of her. At least, she's at peace now. |

^^ Actually new rare earth deposit were found on the sea bed off a western country (or one that is an ally). Also the relationship between US - China - and western world is so interwoven that China may harm herself more if she plays hardball. Oh here is the link. Music/Radio / Re: Amy Winehouse Is Dead by ElRazur: 7:13pm On Jul 24, 2011 |
^^ The reason most are talking about Wine house is because of the following: She headed down the path of destruction and everyone could see this. Her dad even wrote her obituary before she died - think about that. I read that someone was on record warning her that she'll die if she carried on etc. You see, a lot of warning but addiction was stronger I think. So when she died, "it was a surprise the same way it wasn't" |

owo2390: Research on issues like these will forever be ongoing. One evidence you cannot deny is that there are high incidences of psychosis amongst smokers/users of THC. That is why or should I say one of the reasons it is classified as a controlled drug in the UK. This pattern is consistently seen even though the basis or actual reason may be unknown for now due to differences in disposition and susceptibility etc. The pattern or (link) is however there. From where I stand, that pattern of high incidences alone makes it harmful (and no I am not denying there aren't benefits, I pointed at this out already in my previous post) |

sonyvaio: China do indeed spend big. However, I personally do not consider them a threat. They readily admit they are at least 25-30 years behind america when it comes to military technology. Also their idea of advancement is to copy and copy and never anything original. Remember the jet fighter that was built by China and showed off recently? It was believed to be built based around tech that were stolen - sold by a rouge Israeli agent who had business interest - and the rest based on salvaged American jet fighter that crashed off their coast or something. That technology is years old (still advanced though) but china ripped it and used it for their new stealth plane. Remember the Osama bin laden raid and the helicopter crash? Well, that helicopter according to Aviation enthusiast and experts is said to be a stealth Helo. Expect to see a Chinese version soon as there are concern in the CIA that Pakistan may have allowed Chinese spies to have a look when the site was secured/cleared. Anyway, my point is this - China is still modernizing and it will take a while to get there. They may make plenty stuff from their country, but when put to test against a western equivalent, they do not perform as expected (That do not mean they aren't deadly though. I just do not personally rate their tech) Nations like US, UK et al are already modernised and keep moving forward. That is the difference in my opinion. |

ThiefOfHearts: She was known for her drug use and problem with alcohol. Last time she was on stage, she was booed off because she was falling over and mumbling her lines. She checked into rehabs but never finished the course. Her dad did ask for intervention from her record label. Her manager was on record saying they contemplated kicking her off the record label. Her hubby was a druggie too. I think it is fair to speculate that she died of drug abuse complications or over dose. Her autopsy is today I believe, the verdict will be out this week at some point. |

owo2390: How do you explain high incidence of psychosis in weed smokers? coogar: That's the problem, you already pick to see NO PROBLEM. On the other hand, I beg to differ, hence why I said before that it may be a mild addiction. If it isn't he should be able to stop. One of the known characteristics of THC is how people tend to use it for long period and it becomes something of an "enjoyment". Please compare an apple for an apple, and not an apple to a Blackberry Storm! Virginity, sex and food aren't the same as THC. Ask any addict to describe their addiction and it is along the lines of words that describe "enjoyment" - Euphoria, feeling good, calm, enhanced senses etc. Can we try and stay on course please. You are going off course. Your original point is that Cannabis isn't harmful, even when there are more scientific paper saying it is. |
Politics / Re: Drought In East Africa by ElRazur: 6:27pm On Jul 24, 2011 |
This may sound harsh but I am of the view that Nations that faces climate challenge - especially in an underdeveloped world - are at a massive disadvantage. The horn of Africa or those region has been plagued/hit by inconsistent rainfall, prolonged drought and an ever encroaching desert. Yet this same nations lack anything of interest that the world may want. If you look on the other side of coin, in the middle east, you have nations that are within or inside what is essentially a desert or an arid region, yet this nation managed to avert food crisis. In fact, most of these nations are seen as developing nations (third world). How come it is always different for Africa? Well, these middle-eastern country are rich in oil or sit on a vast quantity of oil and as such the world interest in them are high. Let's not forget that these nations are located in places considered "strategic position" on the face of the earth and vital to world peace at least. Dubai, UAE, Saudi Arabia are essentially desert but it is rare for them to have food shortages. You see, without what the world want from these African nations I am afraid that most of them will die as a result of famine. To further illustrate my point, China and India had history of food shortages and possible famine, but they all manage to avert these looming crisis in the past simply by boosting their agricultural input amongst other things. When you look at these nations of Africa - Somalia especially. There is very little one can do when the land is nothing but desert sand. In the past, the whole world gave handouts and aids, but given the global recession and the fact that famine is always just on the horizon in these African nations, I really do not see any hope. Perhaps it is a case of survival of the fittest? |

owo2390: I already mentioned there are benefits of Marijuana. However, you cannot discount the high incidence of psychosis suffered by those who smoked it a lot or long term. Also, what is the "right dosage?" With drugs like Opioid analgesics, they tend to have a more uniform pharmacology/pharmacodynamics/pharmocokinetics in the body, yet it is not the same for weed. Perhaps this is another reason why it is harmful and hence controlled? Have a read at this article and see how recent it was cited. http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/abstract/135/10/1213 |

Coogar Come on now, how can you be "quoting" biggie in a serious debate? Do you "bleep the police" too because NWA talk so shey? Look all you are citing, at best is an anecdotal evidence. Even looking at your "boss" that you gave as your ultimate example, I think that in itself is a form of mild addiction. Why is your "boss" finding it hard to completely stop from when he was a teenager? Anyway, based on research and publications THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) present in weed is harmful. |
