afrodoc2: If the protests are sustained then the demands must be upgraded. Mere police reform is not enough. It might take 50 more years before people can come together like this again. The people must seize the day and strike while the iron is hot.
This is possibly a singular opportunity to effect positive change, but unfortunately i don't think we as a people have it in us to do the needful. I honestly hope it spirals from just reforming the police into more governance related demands, cos it might take another generation to see this kinda window again. The Nigerian government must be worse than that of the slave masters. |

afrodoc2: The pushback against the protests is the reason why the Nigerian people will continue to suffer at the hands of our heartless leaders.
We are not united enough, courageous enough, or indeed selfless enough to see a grassroots/popular revolution to its logical conclusion.
People have started complaining about how their individual lives are being affected and are taking a short term view rather than thinking long term and putting the objectives of the group ahead of their individual goals.
Most grass-root revolutions develop organically and often spontaneously so it does not really matter what the initial aims and demands were, the people have a right to demand more and more from their leaders (who are meant to be servants of the people not masters).
Eminently notable examples of this are the French and American Revolutions in which the initial demands were minor but the ultimate changes were seismic.
Even more recent popular protests/uprisings globally have often started from what initially seemed to be a trivial matter. A good example is the Arab Spring’s origin in Tunisia. What makes it even more ironic is that many of these regimes and governments committed far less crimes against their people than the Nigerian political class before their people united to kick them out.
This is in no way castigatory about any specific person. Everyone has a right to support or oppose the protesters. Rather it is a commentary on the Nigerian psyche and why it is almost impossible to effect real and permanent change based on civilian protests alone. Jah bless you, doc. |

afrodoc2: Maguire was always suspect.
The mental pressure of playing at United is different from the mental pressure of playing at Leicester. And going by his response to his court case he is mentally fragile.
The difficulty level for a slow and fat CB to play with a low block like in Leicester is different from playing in a much higher block like at United.
The exposure level when playing with an energetic and quick DM like Ndidi as your screen is different to when playing with slow Matic as your screen.
He is not a crap defender but he is definitely not as good as advertised to us. Definitely not worth 80m. Some real facts.

DontBullshitMe: Before Prosecution, there has to be a thorough internal investigation by an arm of the police force that proves that these officers indeed are REALLY guilty. You don't just charge any police officer accused of wrongdoing by the public to court. It does not work that way.
Internal investigation - termination of employment - prosecution.
Is that what you want NPF to achieve in one week? Nonsense internal investigation, na internal dem commit the killings? Those fraudulent ways of doing things won't work no more. They should be working while people continue protesting; everything dey their hand. |

DontBullshitMe: Wishing or hoping for a totally peaceful protests in a country like Nigeria is unrealistic. Protests are public demonstrations, everyone is welcomed to join. In fact, in any protests, you can't affirm the uprightness of every protester. There will be thugs who want to make a statement, people who are looking for means to steal something and reference as their gain from the demonstration etc.
What do you mean by Government is not to be trusted by their words? They have done enough in ensuring that the easily achievable demands are met. SARS have been disbanded and most arrested protesters have been released. All this talk about prosecution of officers responsible for police brutality, Police reform etc is just an excuse for people to still be on the street.
Let me add that the economy is barely on its feet after the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown. Last thing that should be done is crippling vehicular movements on major roads. Some people depend on daily consistent income to survive. Make Una think am well ooh. So you mean they can't or shouldn't prosecute officers that were complicit with extrajudicial killings ? |

iamoyindamola: No it's not even hard for us in this country we just like adapting and legalising bad stuff. An average youth can subscribe 2k internet data, binge on Netflix, go to club, cinemas, malls etc The problem is oppression and envy, you are driving a big car and we are mates I will want to be like you, in process I ask for what you doing and caring about the consequence so I can also ball like you. From there I introduce my other friends and the cycle continue then we use the country umis hard as excuse before they will say no job. But the truth is majority of them can't work in the office because they feel the salaries are small compare to what they get from clients while some are also lazy. We(youths) are actually the problem not the nation, until we get ourselves then we can deal with those old fvckers I see the geriatrics who destroyed this country and turned it to a shithole have sold you the usual "youths are Nigeria's problem", "wasted generation " etc and you've bought it hook, line and sinker.
