Crime › My Wife Is Mentally Ill-ex-minister’s Son Accused Of Beating His Wife by emamos(op): 8:41pm On Feb 26, 2016
Mr. Chukwuemeka Elihe Onwuliri, son of former Foreign Affairs Minister,
Lady Viola Onwuliri, has denied beating and locking up his wife but rather
offered to help her over mental illness she is allegedly suffering.
Onwuliri, in an email to Pointblanknews.com said contrary to reports of
his beating his wife, Christina, his family has been more concerned to see
how they can save the children from the violent display from his wife who
has threatened severally to kill them.
He alleged that her mental illness which was not made known to him and his
family before their marriage is reason why he decided to bring her back
from Canada.
His email to pointblanknews.comreads:
Kristina Onwuliri (nee Amaefule) is mentally ill and we were not told
before the marriage of the psychological problems that she had.
Some actions she has taken are:
1. Grabbing the car steering wheel and swerving it on the Highway in
Canada while I was driving almost killing us instantly
2. throwing a heavy statue of Infant Jesus at me, breaking the statue in
the process and throwing a sharp knife at me, later threatening to still
stab me in my sleep and poison me
3. putting a knife to my child’s neck to kill her
4. Preparing acid to pour on me – with bleach, hot water, etc, I called
the canadian police and it took them several minutes to finally agree to
enter the house because they were scared she would pour it on them. They
entered the house and saw the hot water boiling, the bleach beside it and
they called her out and she confessed. After that she started pushing to
come to Nigeria even after I had booked a 6months training course in
Canada for her to work as a Medical assistant which she rejected after
attending class for one day.
She switches from calm to very violent in an instant, especially at night
and can get very violent and would deny it later as if she was sleep
walking when she performed all the actions. It got to a point I could not
sleep at night until she slept.
I have tried to help her but she has rejected all help for fear of being
tagged a psycho patient. I had to take action and remove the kids while
she was vehemently destroying my Fathers house on 3rd February 2016 from
inside the room and then went downstairs to break more windows wounding my
cousin in the process after which she left on her own. All witnesses there
that day concluded that this girl can kill easily. We have all stayed away
to protect lives and she has resorted to lies to social and print media to
all to cause confusion. We have also made 4 attempts to return her
documents and her luggage to her with her and her Father refusing them
each time.
It was only last year, that I found out that her brother, Kris Amaefule
(Kolia) had called the police for her more than 20 times because he felt
his life was threatened. All those calls happened even before I met her.
She has had this problem and it is extremely difficult
My concern is to protect the children because she has said she will kill
them. We are doing our best to get everything right, to help her also, and
we request the prayers of all.

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has said that hewould not resign from his position, despitehis ongoingfalse asset declaration trialat the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
According to Saraki, the trial is an act of persecution andnot an actual fight against corruption.
Saraki said this on Friday at Landmark Events Centre in Lagos during a social media week event organised byState- Craft Inc. the theme was; ‘Did You Say Change? Game Changers of the 2015 Nigerian elections.’
He stated that his trial was the handiwork of powerful people who were unhappy with his emergence as Senate President.
The Senate President said that when he got into office as a civil servant 13 years ago; he filled the asset declaration form which is a must for all public servants to fill once they enter office.
In his words,“We are public servants and you must fill your asset declaration form when you get in office and I did mine 13 years ago.
“The charges have nothing to do with corruption or money being stolen anywhere. I will have my day in courtto prove my innocence of the charge pending against mebecause it is not about corruption.
“I don’t understand how the same organisation that cleared my asset declaration to be proper in 2004, 2009 and 2011 can now say that my record is faulted,” he said.
Among personalities present at the event were, Senator Dino Melaye; Senator Sabi Abdulahi and Senator Foster Ogola

Politics › Re: Defeated, Chibok Girls Rescue Underway, Says Buratai - Sahara Reporters by emamos: 9:48am On Feb 25, 2016

dont mind him.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai says the military has entered mop up phase in the fight against Boko Haram that would facilitate the release of captives, including Chibok girls.
He made the remark in Maiduguri at a meeting with Borno Elders Forum as part of measures adopted to consolidate on the gains recorded in the counter-insurgency operation.
The meeting was held at the Military Command and Control Centre in Maiduguri.
“We were given three major tasks, and we have made efforts toward achieving two.
“The first task is to defeat Boko Haram, and I want to tell you that as at today Boko Haram has been defeated.
“When I say defeat, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be hitches here and there. We have entered the mop-up stage of our operation,” he said.
He explained that the mop up phase would facilitate the release of those held captive by the insurgents, including the Chibok girls.
According to Buratai, the second part of the first task is to rescue those who are held hostage at some marked locations by the insurgents.
Buratai noted that the second major task in the military’s north-east operation was to facilitate the restoration of normalcy in affected areas and provision of relief materials to displaced persons.
He said the military had aided civil authorities in the return of displaced persons from Bama, Gwoza and other communities.
“The second task is to support the civil authorities in caring and protecting the Internally Displaced Persons and to help the civil authorities in restoring normalcy and rebuilding those areas that have been liberated.
“It has already commenced in places like Bama, Gamboru Ngala, Baga, Mongonu and most of those areas are deserted because they are afraid that they could be attacked.
“So, we will embark on confidence building to encourage them to come back by assisting the civil authorities, he said.
He said some challenges initially encountered in the course of operation had been addressed, stressing that the operation was progressing according to projections.
Buratai acknowledged the support of the elders and urged them and the entire Borno people to be patient with the military particularly on measures initiated to tackle the insurgents.
He said measures such as the closure of markets and curfews were all taken to address gaps observed in the military operation.
Chairman of the Borno Elders Forum, Amb. Gaji Galtimari appreciated the efforts of the military in containing the menace of insurgency in the north-east.
He said that the military had succeeded in decimating the insurgents to the extent that the regular bomb and gun attacks were limited in parts of the region.
Galtimari said Borno elders were in support of measures adopted by the military in finally ending the menace of Boko Haram and pledged to do more to support the military.

Politics › PDP ‘ministers Forum’ Reject Modu-sheriff As Chairman by emamos(op): 1:46pm On Feb 24, 2016
The PDP Ministers Forum on Tuesday rejected the appointment of Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff as national chairman.
This came on the heels of similar rejections by the Board of Trustees and the PDP Rescue Group.
According to the ministers the rejection was largely informed by the lack of transparency and internal democracy in the process.
Full statement

Politics › Buhari Disowns 2016 Budget, Says National Assembly Debating Wrong Document by emamos(op): 1:37pm On Feb 24, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari vowed late Tuesday in Riyadh that all those
involved in the “padding” of the 2016 National Budget will face the most
severe punishment.
Addressing the Nigerian Community in Saudi Arabia, President Buhari
condemned the distortion of the budget proposals by entrenched interests.
The President said that the unauthorised alterations had completely
changed the document from the one he presented to the National Assembly.
“The culprits will not go unpunished. I have been a military governor,
petroleum minister, military Head of State and headed the Petroleum Trust
Fund.
“Never had I heard the words “budget padding”. Our Minister of Budget and
National Planning did a great job with his team. The Minister became
almost half his size during the time, working night and day to get the
budget ready, only for some people to pad it.
“What he gave us was not what was finally being debated. It is very
embarrassing and disappointing. We will not allow those who did it to go
unpunished,” President Buhari vowed.
The President also assured members of the Nigerian community that his
administration was working diligently to fulfil its campaign promises,
particularly on security, unemployment, and corruption.
Reaffirming his government’s zero tolerance for corruption, President
Buhari said that the war against corruption was a monumental task that he
is determined to tackle successfully.
“We have zero tolerance for corruption and other unethical practices. We
will deal decisively with anybody found wanting,” he promised members of
the Nigerian community.
President Buhari also used the opportunity of the gathering to brief
Nigerians in Saudi Arabia on his administration’s efforts to end the Boko
Haram insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria.
“Our armed forces have done a great job of dealing decisively with Boko
Haram. We are collaborating with our neighbors in the operations of the
Multinational Joint Task Force to handle security threats in the
sub-region and we have significantly destroyed the capacity of the
insurgents,” the President said.
He also spoke on efforts being made to diversify the Nigerian economy,
stressing that more opportunities are now open for local and foreign
investors in the country

The Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, on Tuesday, followed up his claim to a magic wand that would firm the Naira to an exchange rate of N200=$1 within 30 days ,with fresh claims that he knew those behind the current foreign exchange crisis facing the nation and was ready to name them publicly.
He told journalists, in Abuja, that all he wanted from President Muhammadu Buhari , to achieve the goal, was to be appointed a consultant on Financial Stability, without pay.
According to him, he had a four-point strategy to achieve the extra-ordinary feat but that he would not make them public unless appointed a consultant by the federal government.
His words, “What do we have to bring the exchange rate to N200=$1? I have four cardinal points but I will not release them. I am a man brimming with confidence and ideas which is why I would dare to make such an audacious wager.
“Since my appearance and statement on Sunday night on Channels TV, Dollar has crashed from N400 to $1 to N370 to $1. Is this not enough evidence that this freefall of the Naira is artificial and could be better managed, with honesty and ingenuity

President Muhammadu Buhari has tactically rejected an invitation by Saudi Arabia to join the Coalition of Islamic States against Terror.
Buhari, who is on a week-long visit to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, told his host ‎and ruler of Saudi Arabia. King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz, ‎that rather than joining the coalition, Nigeria would support the coalition.
‎He spoke at a bilateral meeting between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in Riyadh hosted by the ruler, King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz.
The president, who made his first pronouncement on the invitation to join the coalition of Islamic states against terror spearheaded by the Saudis, congratulated the Kingdom on forming the coalition.
He said: "Even if we are not a part of it, we support you. I must thank the Kingdom of SaudiArabia for the recent creation of a coalition to address the menace of international terrorism.
"Nigeria will support your efforts in keeping peace and stopping the spread of terror in your region. This is in consonance with our own commitment and on-going efforts in seeking to stamp out Boko Haram terrorists from the West African sub-region and Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC)."

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s detained ex-Aide-de-Camp (ADC) Col. Ojogbane Adegbe has passed the buck on the N10billion gift for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates.
He has told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ask Dr. Jonathan’s former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa to account for the cash, a source said yesterday.
The ADC said when the suitcases containing the cash were brought as messages for the President, he merely handed them over to Dudafa.
He said military law forbids him from opening any message meant for the President, unless otherwise directed.
Also, one of the Army officers being questioned over the $2.1 billion arms purchase scandal, Col. N. Ashinze , the former Special Military Assistant to the ex-NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), is stranded as he could not resume in his new posting as the nation’s Military Attache to the Nigerian Embassy in Germany.
Although Col. Ashinze has been released from EFCC custody and restricted to the Officers Mess, there was anxiety yesterday that he might be dropped from the foreign mission.
Also yesterday, it was learnt that the embattled ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has been linked with the ongoing probe of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Air Chief Marshal Badeh was moved to Lagos last week as part of the investigation of NIMASA.
The EFCC is believed to be tidying up some loose ends in its investigation of military officers suspected to have been involved in the $2.1b phoney arms deals.
The N10billion withdrawn from the oil block account at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for PDP delegates to its nomination convention has been a knotty issue because it was based on the instruction of the former President, according to a source close to the investigation.
The source said: “The ADC has spoken with investigators. He said when the suit cases containing the N10billion were brought as messages for the ex-President, he did not open them but he handed over the items to SA Domestic Affairs.
“He said as ADC, the military law forbids him from opening any message meant for the President, unless directed by the C-I-C.
“So, it is only the SA Domestic Affairs, who has sneaked out of the country, who will need to provide the list of beneficiaries. This is the status of the case.
“If Dudafa does not show up, we may declare him wanted in connection with the N10billion cash or seek the court’s permission to attach his property.
“We are exploring mutual legal assistance with some countries to fish out Dudafa wherever he is hiding abroad.”
Col. Dasuki said he handed over the N10billion given to the delegates to Dudafa and the ADC.
The ex-NSA opened up in his Statement of Witness/Accused Person which has been filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT)
He said: “That I am aware in November, I cannot remember the exact date. My office requested the CBN to exchange N10billion from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in CBN.
“The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP presidential nomination. The money was paid and sent to Hon. Dudafa(SSAP Household) and ADC(C-I-C) for distribution on the instruction of the President.”
On Col. Ashinze, a source said: “So far, nothing has been found against the said officer or else EFCC would still be keeping him.
“He is stranded at the Officers Mess. We don’t know whether or not the EFCC will use him as a witness.”
On Air Chief Marshal Badeh, the source said: “We moved him to Lagos in connection with the ongoing probe of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA) during the tenure of the former Director- General, Dr. Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi.

Business › Naira Becoming A ‘banana Republic’ Currency by emamos(op): 8:29pm On Feb 21, 2016
Financial Derivatives Company has said that the increasing uncertainty in the foreign exchange market has turned the naira into a ‘banana republic’ currency.
Meanwhile the naira on Friday appreciated to N275 per dollar at the parallel market, representing N25 appreciation when compared with the closing rate of N400 on Thursday
This halted a four day N75 depreciation of the nation’s currency in the parallel market, as the exchange rate rose steadily from N325 per dollar the previous week to N400 on Thursday due to intense demand for foreign exchange aggravated by severe scarcity of dollars.
Vanguard investigation revealed that the appreciation of the naira on Friday was due to massive sell off of dollars following a text message from the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON) advising bureaux de change (BDCs) to ensure compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations and avoid being used by foreign exchange speculators to engage in hoarding of the dollar. According to a BDC operator who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity, the message triggered apprehension and speculations of CBN intervention in the market to bring down the rate.
ABCON President, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe confirmed the circulation of the text message, saying it was an attempt to ensure that its members don’t fall into the temptation of being used to engage in any form of malpractice. “We are just trying to play our role and do what we can to ensure calm and sanity in the market”, he told Vanguard.
On its part, the Financial Derivatives Company, in its bi-month bulletin issued last week, blamed the steady depreciation of the naira in the parallel market to uncertainties in the foreign exchange market. The Company said, “The CBN is resisting the idea of allowing the naira float and find its true value. The rumour about the restriction of payments on education and healthcare has led to a steep depreciation of the naira. The uncertainty in the forex market is fast feeding into the currency risk premium and thus making the naira turn into a banana republic currency.
“We expect imported inflation to impact prices in February. The foreign exchange uncertainty in the country has led to the depreciation of the naira to as low as N370 per dollar.”

Some aggrieved chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former governor of old Gongola State, Wilberforce Juta, has asked the new PDP national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to resign and save the party further embarrassment.
The aggrieved party members under the aegis of PDP Rescue Group, further described the emergence of Sheriff as an imposition, stressing that he was not nominated by any state from the North-east.
They noted that the Borno State chapter of the party has rejected Sheriff.
Juta, who spoke on behalf of the group at a press conference on Sunday, called on the party organs to commence the search for “persons with high, strategic insight and fear of God almighty” to lead the party.
The former governor who was screen for the chairmanship position, listed the organs to include state and zonal chapters, board of trustees, national caucus, PDP ministers Forum, PDP governors forum, G84 as well as PDP leaders past and present.
Reeling out the grouse of the group, Juta said they are upset by the decision of NEC in appointing Sheriff, adding that they are “convinced that this decision by NEC is against the will and wish of the generality of faithful members.
“We know that North east zonal wing having been directed by national caucus of the party to forward nominees from the zone didn’t nominate Senator Sheriff for the position of national chairman.
“That it is in the interest of PDP and the country, Sen. Sheriff should do the needful by stepping down honorably as it is evident that party members nationwide overwhelmingly reject his imposition.”
He added that they have resolved for an early congress and national convention to be called to elect new leaders as “the term of the current leadership is due to end in March 2016.”
He added that “under no guise should the tenure of current leaderships of the party be extended, if we must make the needed fresh beginning.”
Juta noted that that “most party faithful do not see in Sen. Sheriff a model of impeccable integrity that the PDP badly needs to lead it at this critical moment,” stressing that to raise a leader who is lacking in integrity and skills is to throw the party and nation into inefficiency, indiscipline, disorderliness and even chaos”.
Reacting to expectations that Sheriff would leave in March as he was meant to serve the tenure of the North-east, Juta said “It is not the question of time but precedence. If we allow it we would have laid a bad precedence. What is wrong is wrong. It is inappropriate.”
Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, is deputy deputy chairman of the group, former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Secretary of the group Murtar Shagari is secretary of the group. Former ministers Mohammed Wakil and John Odeh are also a members of the group.
Corroborating, Senator Wabara said “we are here to rescue party from imposition and impunity,” stressing that Sheriff’s emergence was “embarrassing” as he was smuggled into the contest.
He disagree with Sheriff’s statement that PDP will return to power in 2019, stressing that “we are not talking about 2019, we must impress Nigerians first.
The agenda is that the person who made that statement might be there to carry out that mission.”

Politics › Fayose To Buhari: Devalue Naira Now, Forex Policy Short-changing Nigerians by emamos(op): 4:55pm On Feb 21, 2016
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has called for the devaluation of the nation’s currency, the Naira, saying, “With the gap between the official rate of N199 and open market rate of over N400 to one dollar, Naira has already been devalued. Therefore, President Muhammadu Buhari must stop deceiving himself and short-changing Nigerians, especially States and Local Councils in the country with his Forex Policy.”

Governor Fayose, who said there was no time in the history of Nigeria that the gap between dollar official rate and open market rate was more than N200, pointed out that it made no economic sense for the Federal Government to be calculating the country’s revenue on the basis of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) official rate of N199 to a dollar while States and Local Councils that are sharing the revenue with the Federal Government run their businesses at the open market rate of over N400 to one dollar, thereby causing business to be folding up by the day and prices of goods skyrocketing everyday.

Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the governor, Lere Olayinka, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, quoted the governor as saying that apart from breeding corruption through round tripping or foreign exchange arbitrage, Nigerians are also being duped and middle class Nigerians, the main people that grows the country’s economy are being decimated.

The governor said President Buhari was applying his 1984 failed economic policy in which prices of goods were fixed not minding the cost of supply, such that essential commodities like milk and sugar became scarce and Nigerians were made to line up under the sun to buy rationed commodities.

He urged the President to pay more attention to the ailing economy of the country instead of junketing around the world, wasting $1 million per foreign trip, saying; “President Buhari has travelled to 24 countries in eight months, and will be spending 16 out of the 29 days in February outside the country, with over $500,000 being spent on estacode while the Presidential Air Fleet, which includes fueling of the planes and allowances for crew members is said to be in the range of $500,000.

“The President’s entourage obviously collect their travel allowances in dollars on official rate of N199 and come back to Nigeria to change it at the open market rate of N400. That must be the reason they encourage the President to be junketing abroad when life is becoming unbearable for Nigerians.”

The governor said; “The situation is such that Nigeria gets say $2 billion revenue in a month, calculates the $2 billion revenue on the basis of the official CBN rate of N199 and share the revenue among the three tiers of government.

“In elementary economics, the implication is that when revenue is calculated based on N199 to one dollar and the federal government will be declaring say revenue of N400 billion to be shared by the three tiers of government, the value of revenue that should have been shared will be over N800 billion at the open market rate of N400 to one dollar.

“Meanwhile, the three tiers of government pay salaries to workers on the basis of N199 per dollar while the workers pay for goods and services which prices are determined by the open market rate of N400 to one dollar.

Politics › My Husband’s Administration Will Be The Best In History Of Rivers State – Wike’s by emamos(op): 12:30pm On Feb 20, 2016
The wife of Rivers State Governor, Justice Suzette Nyesom-Wike on Friday expressed optimism that her husband’s administration will be the best in the history of the state.
Justice Suzette expressed confidence in the Wike-led administration, saying apart from it being recorded as the best in the history of the state, it will entrench unprecedented projects and programmes across the state.
The Governor’s wife boasted while addressing Rivers Women Leaders during the First Rivers Women Stakeholders meeting in Government House, Port Harcourt.
According to her, the state will experience a developmental growth because of Governor Wike’s capacity to deliver and his unequalled compassion for the people.
She said, “Governor Wike, in the last eight months, has proven that development can be fast-tracked in the state, despite the current economic challenges in the country.
“My husband is the governor today by the will of God. I am confident that my husband’s administration will be the best in the history of the state. He will perform creditably to the level that years after his tenure Rivers people will be talking about his positive achievements in the state.
“We have to remain focused to drive development across Rivers State.
“As women, we should work towards promoting peace so that the government can continue with development projects in the state. There is a lot in Rivers State that this state cannot be ignored, all we have to do is to pray for peace,” Suzette added.
