They are not more efficient but cheaper. If you have the funds and was asked to pick between American and Russian/Chinese products, which would you choose? A whole lot of things goes into making a product cheaper. If you cut down on quality...you definitely will end up with a cheaper product. Same product, if made in Nigeria will be much cheaper than when produced in the USA. Cost of labor, quality, cost of raw materials, government regulations, taxes, etc. all contribute to the cost of the final product.
