A lot of people argue when it comes to saying
phone numbers,e.t.c. Even, teachers and lecturers
also argue it and hold a particular opinion. The
popular opinion as far as I know is "zero eight
zero".
In saying numbers, is it "o eight o" or "zero eight
zero"?
Kindly give your contribution and let's solve the puzzle. Thanks!

OAU Students have accused their vice-chancellor of looting public funds meant for development of their school. The students' union President Omotayo Akande accused the vice chancellor of increasing tuition fee but failing to improve standards of the school. Omotayo accused the vice chancellor of constructing a swimming pool to the tune of 500 million. The students have expressed their readiness to take up the case at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, saying the Vice Chancellor must be probed. News outfits earlier reported the case of OAU students demanding probe of their Vice Chancellor over alleged financial misappropriation after increase of the institution's school fee in 2014. Also in the same year Senior Special Assistant to the then President Goodluck Jonathan , Comrade Jude Image accused the OAU management of having little to show for the fund given to the University by the federal government, he wrote on his twitter handle " it is only when schools want to increase tuition fee that they remember independence" Non Academic Staff Union of Universities also made similar allegations against the University Management led by the outgoing Vice Chancellor - Professor Bamitale Omole, it was revealed and alledged by NASU that OAU has been battling with lack of internal financial records with a query from the Director of audit in 2014 - the year of school fee increase. The query with reference number Ref.Int.audit/bur/007 read in part "It is necessary to state that excuses tendered by the scheduled officers such as inability to obtain bank statements, staff being unavailable is unnaceptable and will not be accepted if the school is defrauded" The allegations of misappropriation ranged from issues between 2011 and September 2015. It was also gathered that the Director Of Audit stated that Out of the 41 accounts operated by OAU, 34 of the accounts were last audited in June 2012 ,with 7 of the accounts last audited in December 2013. In the letter the Director of Audit Mr J.A Adeshoba stated that efforts to reconcile the accounts has alarmingly failed. The internal audit memorandum was directed to the University Bursar. The University Bursar in a letter dated 14th of September 2015 tried to change the name of one of the accounts of the school in Wema Bank PLC , the account is with the name MBA executive Tution Fee and with bank account number 0121241638 , in a letter directed to the Managing Director Wema bank PLC Obafemi Awolowo University to change the name of the account, sources close to the University said this move was made to ensure the University keep some accounts in disguise while the single account policy of President Buhari goes on. Non-Academic Staff Union Of University (NASUU) also confirmed that this move was made possibly to avoid issues of single account policy of President Buhari. It was also gathered that in 2008, the National Universities Commission gave an order to all public universities with ref number Fame/DA/SD/c.124/1/15, with the NUC reference NUC/ES/138/ volume.xlv1/215, with the title, 'Withdrawal of Official Vehicles From Part-Time, Non-Pensionable Members Of Statutory Boards Of Government Owned Companies And Parastatals'. NUC in the letter, instructed that universities should stop purchase of vehicles for board members of institutions . Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities OAU branch hinted that, as against this order, which is still operating till date, OAU has bought vehicles worth millions of naira for members of statutory boards violating the federal ministry directive. The public relations officer of OAU has however denied all these allegations. He said, "if anybody has anything against OAU, he or she should tell the vice chancellor". On the issues of the students union petitioning EFCC, Olanrewaju said, " We run a plain and transparent administration". Sam Adegbola wrote for Nigerian voice an article against increase in school fee in 2014. Sam Adegbola was a former NANS leader in Nigeria. "Aside donations from OAU Alumni Associations, both at home and in Diaspora, the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) also made a promise of Five Hundred Million Naira (N500, 000, 000) to support the anniversary. Surprisingly, OAU also received a donation of five hundred thousand naira from the pupils of Sunshine Primary School, Ile-Ife, Osun State as part of their contribution to the 50th anniversary of the institution. Other funds also came in and some individuals, bodies, and companies offered free, or subsidized services. Moreover, the NUGA games also got financial boost from the Nigerian University Games Association, Osun State Government, and several companies like Zenith Bank, MTN, Airtel, and Diamond Bank made huge contribution's. The Olympic-size swimming pool was funded by the Federal Government, while Zenith Bank supported the construction of the IAAF Standard Tartan Track of the University main Bowl with N70million. Despite the huge fund gathered for the event, OAU contingents were poorly treated, while some are yet to receive their entitlement. For instance, Bayero University, Kano paid a whooping sum of N100, 000 each to its contingents while OAU, the host university, paid about N30, 000 each. To convince you further that most of the things done in OAU are financed outside the fees paid by students, you need to be aware that Syke Bank, in 2013, donated N600million well-equipped Ultra Modern ICT Centre to OAU; the Federal Government earmarked the whooping sum of N3.05 billion for the construction and renovation of infrastructures in university. Furthermore, OAU benefited from the World Bank STEP-B Project and at the same time, the school received another grant of $8 million (N1.3 billion) from the World Bank in January, 2014. Oil producing giant, ExxonMobil also donated two buses and geological equipment worth more than N35 million to the university. Aside that, the company also dropped a cheque of N4.55million. The donations were received on behalf of the school by Prof. Adejinmi Adesanya. Not everyone forgets that in June, 2012, Pastor Enoch Adeboye gave the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole a UBA cheque of N50 million donation to OAU. On campus too, a 500-capacity lecture theatre was donated by First Bank Plc. A Post Graduate College Building was single- handedly built, furnished, and donated by an alumnus, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, OFR, while the Natural History Museum Building was donated by Leventis Foundation of London. Also, in Nov 2011, Prof. Bamitale Omole received laboratory microscopes worth N10 million naira from Nigerian Breweries. The wife of Ekiti State governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi also donated a buliding and NCC supported OAU with N50million worth of equipments to boost internet services in the university. The 1000-Seater-Lecture Theatre, behind Moremi Hall was also a project of the Petroleum Trust Fund. So, what else has not been supported? What else do OAU need such 'dangerous' money for? Research? That has been financed too. What is obviously left out now is students and staff welfare only. In the interim, the tap water supplied to all Halls of residence is actually below the PH level of 7, very acidic, colourful, odourful, and highly cancerous. Angola Hall and Awo Hall Annex have turned another 'Sambisa forest': bushy and dangerous to stay at night. There is no water supply in bathrooms and toilets in virtually all halls of residence. The fund for welfare shouldn't be drawn from parents' accounts alone. Thank goodness, the university has investments. They have the bread and water factories, the Bookshop, OAU Press LTD, Pre-Degree Centre, Transport services, OAU Staff Schools and Halls for rentage which are charged at prices beyond normal. Everything in OAU has been olivertwistically commercialized. Even the shuttle buses, sorry, shuttle cars charge high fares. No wonder, the Vice Chancellor of the school was quoted as saying that his children school fees while in 'secondary school' were far higher than what OAU students are paying. The questions that beg for answer are; "were his children admitted into a private or public school?" "What social status did he hold during those periods - rich or poor? Prof. Bamitale Omole also compared OAU with other tertiary institutions abroad where they pay exorbitant fees. Hmm, Mr. Vice Chancellor should be reminded that schools that charge high fees in US, Canada, and UK, etc provide loans, scholarship, and job opportunities for students in order to aid their payment. In institutions abroad, registered student organizations, for example, have the privilege to use university's facilities free of charge, but in OAU, no matter how legitimate and recognized your organization is, the school will still drill your account till you go bankrupt and this is the singular reason why students have appeared not to be as creative as they were in the past, when they drew up with innovative programs and activities. Event venues were available for use free or at a highly subsidized rate unlike what it is today. Then, organizations like JCI, Redcross, ANUNSA, Kegite, Rotaract put up interesting programs for the benefit of all; none of them. would dare stage a public lecture without having about N200, 000 to fork out, especially if they want to use a venue like Oduduwa Hall. Ordinarily, public higher education should be free. Not means-tested, not cheap, not subsidized, but free. If it isn't free, it isn't public education. This should not be a controversial assertion. This should be common sense. But OAU management has forgotten what the "public" in "public education" actually means (or used to mean). What the management wants to turn Great Ife to is nothing but a federal- controlled private university, a corporate body that thinks and behaves like business venture. Why would the institution make education available only to those who can afford it? If Prof. Omole's administration turns OAU to a marketplace where education would be bought at a fantastically outrageous price, in what sense can it really be called "Obafemi Awolowo" University? I could feel latest developments will make Awolowo fume in his grave". http://www.2gedatalk..com/2015/12/oau-students-accuse-vice-chancellor-of.html |
Nowadays, almost all,if not all of us carry very expensive and latest mobile devices, which we cannot afford to lose, fearing that it may be stolen. There is currently chaos and pandemonium as Awo guys just invaded the PG Hall of residence. We will keep you updated as it happens. The dispute arose because the PG students disallowed a particular Awo guy from entering the PG Hall to charge his phone. This is because light has been switched off in the undergraduate halls of residence. OAU Students Discover Stream Water Behind Hostel (Photos) These pictures show the mouth-opening way the students of the school are surviving during the ongoing management-students wahala. See the stream they discovered.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. . Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST: Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ' remote ' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk)... Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone! ' THIRD: Hidden Battery Power Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time. FOURTH: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. FIFTH: ATM - PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321. The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location. This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers however it is seldom used because people just don’t know about it...... Please pass this along to everyone. This is the kind of information people don’t mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends. https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=134198694910355614#editor/target=post;postID=7104591431263302606;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=0;src=postname |
"...In med school followed the rules, went to class, studied, completed assignments, and thought l was doing well. However, it wasn't long before l was disabused of that notion. When l did poorly on the first set of comprehensive exams, my faculty advisor called me to his office to offer what he thought would be helpful advice. After looking over my records, he told me, "You seem to be a highly intelligent young man, Mr. Carson. I'm sure there many things you could do outside of medicine." His words nearly devastated me. The faculty member assigned to provide me advice, encouragement, and inspiration thought l wasn't smart enough to handle medical school and was advising me to go ahead and drop out. When l told him l didn't want to do that, he suggested the possibility of taking half as many classes, which would require 4 yrs to complete the first 2 yrs of the program. l didn't want to do that either. So l don't think my advisor was happy when l left his office without agreeing to take any of his advice. I still believed God wanted me to pursue the dream I had had Since I was 8 yrs old to become a doctor. So l determined to use my brain to think seriously about why l seemed to be struggling and come up with a strategy for addressing the problem. I'd become voracious learner since fifth grade; l wasn't going to give up now. The more l thought about how my med school experience was diff. from the previous twelve years of educational success, the more convinced l became that the issue wasn't whether l could learn(I'd proven that), but how l learned best. I'd been sitting n listening to lectures hour after hour after hour every day That was the pattern in every one of my courses, and nothing was sinking in. When l thought back over my previous schooling, it hit me that l had never learned we from just listening. l had always learnt best by reading. That meant l needed to come up with a way to use that strength. The plan l arrived at sounds pretty drastic-maybe crazy- but from then until the end of med school, l skipped most of my class lectures. During the hours the other students spent in class, l was in my rum or d library reading and rereading the textbook (sometimes more than one textbook) for each of my courses. l studied all sort of related resources. I didn't just blow off the lectures; there were "scribes" who sat in every lecture course. These people earned money by taking and typing up detailed notes on every class. l could subscribe to those note for reasonable price, and l found l could absorb the material much more efficiently that way than l could by attending the classes. Just b4 tests, l transferred much of d info onto flashcards to review. Plus, l attended the labs for the hands-on experiments While l could never say med school became easy after that( l studied at least as long and as hard as all other students l knew), my new strategy began working right away. My grades improved so quickly that l not only shocked my advisor, but l also surprised myself..." MY QUESTION TO YOU; *Like Ben, do you also have a goal that you are not willing to let go....Not even when people greater than you asked you to.. **Like Ben, have you been able to identify what works for you... ***Like Ben mother do tell him, YOU HAVE A BRAIN, USE IT !!! https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=134198694910355614#editor/target=post;postID=7599089627094112782;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=0;src=postname |

SeverusSnape:Hi bro,I'm not here to abuse you, rather,I will enlighten you. This enlightenment is for you only if you are a religion follower, be it Christianity, Islam or even traditional religion. If you av studied d concept of religion very well,it's characterized with moderate dogmatism,i.e, you only question the secondary source you don't question the primary sources,e.g, you can verify if truly God, Jesus(AS) or Muhammad(SAW) actually said something, you cannot judge whether God should have said it or not ,otherwise you become a disbeliever to God. Quote me anywhere! Not all activities or concepts of all religions are understandable and meaningful to the followers of the religions. For instance,we all pray every day not to record death, injuries, casualties and misfortunes. Don't we experience all such? Are we all fools for our continuous prayers? Or is there any religion that promises immortality or a life free of any misfortune in this world? Whether you believe in a religion or not what will befall you will befall you! Therefore, STONING THE DEVIL IN HAJJ IS BEYOND YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND MEANING AND YOU HAD BETTER LIVE IT! EVEN IN EMPIRICAL FACTS,NOT ALL THINGS YOU CAN KNOW! Stop religious sentiments and blind criticisms!!! Hope I've not abused or offended you in anyway. Mend your ways! Thanks! |
General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), Wednesday, said he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his life after he was targeted by suicide bombers in Kawu area of Kaduna. In a statement, Buhari said: “I am personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today at about 2:30pm on my way to Daura.“The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car, but was blocked by escort vehicle.“We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly detonated the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. “Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle, I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder. “Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt, but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries. They have since been treated in hospital and discharged”, he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/07/escaped-assassination-buhari/

These are some of the common grammatical errors made in our universities and other places. This article is not to make jest of anyone, but to call people to attention. Thanks as you read! 1). Incorrect: I am going to the academics. The word academics is nothing but the plural of “academic”,which means a scholar (lecturer/student),and it also means a member of the academy(i.e,a society of artists/scientists). Correct: I am going to the academic area or the academy, which means a place for learning or training in general. But,if used within a school or university context,it means the place where the actual academic activities take place, other than the hostels ,the staff quarters , e.t.c. 2). Incorrect: Twenty students are offering Mathematics and the English language. The word “offer” means to give something. Correct: Twenty students are doing mathematics and the English language. Although, a university, faculty, or a department can offer a course, a student cannot offer a course or subject, but can do it. 3). Incorrect: Government will sponse the programme. Correct: Government will sponsor the programme. The word “sponsor” is used both as a noun and as a verb while the word “sponse” does not exist in the English language. 4). Incorrect: Please gist me the outcome of the meeting. Correct: Please give me the gist of the meeting. The word “gist” is used as a noun not as a verb. 5). Incorrect: I will write my exams next week. Correct: I will sit/do my exams next week. The word “write” doesn’t collocate with “exam” in that context. 6). Incorrect: People are too much in the bank. Correct: People are too many in the bank. The word “much” is used for uncountable nouns while “many” is used for countable nouns 7). Incorrect: I want to check my result but the website/eportal is not going. Correct: I want to check my result but the website is not connecting/loading or the server is not through/responding. . Incorrect: I called your number but it was notgoing (through). Correct: I dialled your number/line but it was not reachable/available. Read the rest at : https://2gedatalk./2015/08/24/common-grammatical-errors-made-by-university-people/ |
It is no more news that people have shown diverse reactions towards Buhari’s plan to probe only the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan. The question is, is this right and fair? Whether yes or no,on what grounds? If Buhari promised the probe of past administrations during his election campaign, let’s be reminded at this juncture that such a promise constitute a social contract which is not legally and constitutionally binding because there was no intention to enter into a legally binding relation. It is a crystal clear fact that almost all,if not all the past administrations embezzled and misappropriated our funds. That is,all or most past administrations are guilty, and are sinners. And the wronged or offended libertarian person has the legal and moral right to choose who to punish! Since Buhari’s action is outside legal jurisdiction according to our constitution, then,he has the right to either do or undo! A Prestigious Yoruba adage says “Ti eniyan ba so pe eegun ile baba oun yoo jo ti ko ba jo mo ko si baba eni to le muni sii”,meaning, a person is not bound by a legally unbinding or unenforceable promise. If Buhari is not legally and constitutionally erroneous in his plan, then, on what ground again? Another angle from which the issue can be viewed is the moral corner. According to the Utilitarian Morality Theory, “An action is morally right if it promotes a greater sense of good over evil while a morally wrong action is the one which promotes a greater sense of evil over good” Moreover, another Morality Theory called Egoism says “An action is morally right if it promotes or satisfies the interest of the performer or doer of the action” Considering the above theories, probing only the past immediate administration will do more good than harm for both Buhari and Nigerians on one hand, and it will satisfy the interest of Buhari – the action doer on the other hand, thus, the conditions of the two theories are satisfied. Also,if Buhari were to satisfy the interest of those who argue that his probing only the Jonathan’s administration is unfair, then, his chain of probe will be endless and unrealistic, and will be like chasing the ghost or shadow, which is a futile endeavour before its birth. Therefore, Buhari has not erred. Furthermore, going by the principle of proximity, the Jonathan’s administration is the closest to Buhari. And Yorubas do say “Eni ti a ba sun ti ni a maa n jarunpa lu” And a beautiful English idiom says ” A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. Buhari has the right to choose.Let us not deny him his right by our propaganda mission. “An objective and rational criticism is a checkmating tool in governance, but a false and propaganda criticism is a destroyer and killer of governance” God bless Nigeria God bless Nigerians.
