Ten Nigerian boys suspected of fraudulent internet activity have been arrested by the Ghanaian police in a house at Ashongman Estate, Accra.

The suspects: Diamond Andy, 22, Benson Romeo, 20, Randy Samuel, 25, Kelvin Agho, 23, Osas Igbo, 21, David Okondu, 23, Praise Onyekwena, 22, Ohis David, 25, Duru Wisdom, 22 and Uyi Ighodaro, 24 were arrested with a plethora of evidence to be used against them.

Speaking on the incident, DSP James Aseidu, District Commander of Kwabenya Police Station, who led the operation said that Six internet modems, 54 different SIM cards, 9 laptops and 5 mobile phones were retrieved from them. He also noted that they had set up their operation in a room.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Alex Mensah said; “The suspects are often not seen during the day and often move out at night everyday to have fun with friends.

“Police also discovered that the suspects do not work but lead lavish lifestyles in the area. This prompted the police to raid the said house to arrest the suspects,”

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security agencies to stop the killings, criminality in the country and improve their strategies on intelligence gathering, surveillance and accuracy in deployments.

The President made this known on Thursday during an official visit to Zamfara State, where he held an interactive meeting with political leaders, traditional rulers, elders and victims of criminal attacks in the state.

In a statement through his Spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President said, “As far as I am concerned, our security agencies have recorded some successes, but they need to do much more.

“They are not to oppress anyone, but they have to gather and send intelligence and warnings when something is about to happen,’’ he said.

The President commended the security agencies for eliminating a dreadful criminal, “Buhari general’’, who had for many years initiated killings and destruction of properties.

“Before “Buharin-daji”, who calls himself a general, there was a criminal who killed many people and he was killed; “Buharin–daji’’ has followed him and others like them should also follow,’’ he added.

The President said the threats to lives and properties will be significantly reduced with improved relations among community leaders, citizens and the security agencies.

“I have come here to commiserate with you over the loss of lives and properties. We will continue to do our best to improve the security situation. However, those committing atrocities live with you. Some of these people are not reported because you don’t trust the security outfits, instead, you report back to the criminals. We should give priority to security’’ he said.

He warned that the ongoing war against corruption will be reinvigorated and sustained by public officers, who abused their positions, faced the wrath of the law.

He also told the elders and traditional rulers that properties that had been confiscated by security outfits from some suspected corrupt public officials will be sold out, after the completion of court procedures.

The President urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing reforms in the agricultural sector, pointing that the era of depending on petrol will one day come to an end.

On herdsmen attacks, the President said there was a need to revisit and review the old grazing area arrangements that guaranteed harmonious relationship between farmers and herdsmen, where differences were amicably resolved through the law without violence.

In his remarks, Governor Yari, who is also the Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, said the state government had deployed resources that were initially designated for development into fighting criminal activities.

The governor, who commended the security outfits for working hard to protect the state, pleaded with the Federal Government to improve the funding of operations, increase the number of security men working in the state and reimburse the state for monies spent on some Federal Government projects like roads, which he said was a major priority in fighting criminals.

In his presentation, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, said the state faced three major criminal challenges of cattle rustling, armed banditry and abductions and demand for ransoms.

Listing out eight major flashpoints, the Secretary to the Government said 1,321 lives had been lost since 2011, while 1,881 people sustained various injuries from attacks, with about N14 billion spent on fighting the menace.

The traditional rulers, elders and leaders of the affected communities also pleaded with the government to ensure immediate security intervention in order to save lives.

Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) co-convener, Oby Ezekwesili took to her twitter page to welcome the abducted school girls from Dapchi, Yobe state, who were allegedly returned to their village by their abductors in the early hours of Wednesday, March 21. Recall that abut 105 students of Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi were on February 19, 2018 kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents. Ezekwesili, who is also a former federal minister of education, said the return of the school girls is a good news but the federal government should demand the return of the 112 Chibok girls who are still in their abductors’ custody.

Ezekwesili went further to ask if the terrorists who reportedly returned the Dapchi school girls have been arrested and how many have been taken into the custody of the security operatives. She tweeted: “While we @BBOG_Nigeria rejoice that “abductors” of our Dapchi girls have returned them, please be reminded that: There are #112 #ChibokGirls remining to be returned. “We demand that you also ask their abductors to return them immediately! Now!! In a separate tweet where she copied the president and the Nigerian army, Ezekwesili wrote: “The terrorists returned our Dapchi girls to Dapchi? Wonderful. Please confirm and also let us know how many of the terrorist were arrested.”

Senator representing Kano Central District, Rabiu Kwankwaso has spoken on his reported secret meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Co-Chairman of Nigeria intervention Movement Olisa Agbakoba on Sunday confirmed Obasanjo met with former governors, political parties and some leaders in a secret meeting in Lagos.

Reacting, Kwankwaso’s political associate, Hajiya Binta Rabi’u Spikin, dismissed the reports of Kwankwaso’s presence at the meeting.

He said the news was based on eagerness of the people to know where Kwankwaso stands.

He said “Senator Kwankwaso never met with Obasanjo in Lagos state as speculated.

“Senator Kwankwaso was in Kaduna having series of meetings with various stakeholders of Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the APC. The story that went viral on social media was false, unfounded and uncalled-for.

“People are clamouring for the ‘real change’ hence they were eager to know where the national leader of Kwankwasiyya, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso focuses his political attention, so they could follow him.”

A member of Kwankwasiyya, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, also denied such meeting, stating that such meeting if it held, it would not be political.

“Although I am not aware of any meeting between Obj and Kwankwaso, but in my opinion such a meeting if at all they met should not be seen as political.

“This is because the former president is now an elder statesman and has been meeting with various people including President Muhammadu Buhari.” Doguwa added

A woman who was reportedly fighting with her boyfriend has allegedly stabbed him to death. According to reports, a young man identified as Evangelist Igg has passed away after he was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend. It was gathered that the tragic incident occurred while the couple was fighting in a nightclub in Italy. The pair had reportedly been having disagreements before going to the club where they were later spotted dancing with each other.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has insisted that he made no mistake by endorsing his Chief of Staff to the Government House and son-in-law, Uche Nwosu as his successor.

Governor Okorocha said this following a statement credited to him denying his endorsement of Nwosu.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, on Tuesday said the governor’s endorsement of Nwosu was an open thing and if there was any counter development, it should also be an open venture and not “corner-corner” thing.

“We have read in the media, especially on the social media, a statement falsely credited to Governor Okorocha, that he has not endorsed Chief Uche Nwosu but, rather, considering three people, including Nwosu, Prince Eze Madumere and Chike Okafor.

“That is not true. If there was any atom of truth in that claim, it wouldn’t have been a side-talk.

“The governor endorsed Chief Nwosu and gave more than 20 reasons for doing so, in addition to the man’s endorsement by students, women, youth groups and 24 out of the 27 local governments in the state.

“In the past 24 hours, Imo people, in particular, have been calling over the false statement credited to the governor on the endorsement issue.

“We have been telling those who called to disregard that statement and continue to work and pray for Nwosu.

“Like we said in one of our media outings to that effect, the opposition in Imo is desperate and extremely worried because they are yet to see any aspirant who can beat Nwosu, either in the primary or in the main election. They are stranded.

“Also, endorsements have been going on across the states, but, in Imo, Nwosu’s endorsement is the one being celebrated and talked about.

In no distant time, we are going to respond to those talking about nepotism to prove to them that such issue is neither here nor there.

“The issue of endorsement has been part of the nation’s politics.

“There is nothing strange about it. It does not replace party primary or the INEC organised election.

“Nwosu will win the APC governorship primary and the election proper because human beings are involved in the two activities and not blackmail,” he said.

The United States Secretary of States, Rex Tillerson, is expected to visit President Muhammadu Buhari, today at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The visit comes amidst speculation of the United States strengthening bilateral relations in Africa, with the commander of US Forces in Africa LT General Thomas Waldhauser recently affirming a need for Washington to retain its influence in the continent, and ensure that Africa sees the United States as a steadfast partner.

Mr Tillerson who was on his first African tour as Washington’s top diplomat, cancelled his programme in Kenya on Saturday because he was feeling unwell.”The secretary is not feeling well after a long couple days working on major issues back home such as North Korea and has cancelled his events for the day,” said a brief statement from Undersecretary of State Steve Goldstein. He later said that Tillerson was “feeling better and will resume his normal schedule tomorrow (Sunday)”.

The announcement came little more than 24 hours after US President Donald Trump stunned the world by accepting an invitation to meet North Korea’s Kim Jong Un before the end of May.

The audacious diplomatic gambit, which was taken before consulting key confidantes including Tillerson — who was in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at the time — left aides scrambling to catch up.Just hours before the summit announcement Thursday, Tillerson had said Washington was “a long way” from talking directly to North Korea as he kicked off his five-nation Africa tour.

The US diplomat, who arrived in Nairobi on Friday, had been due to visit AIDS relief programme PEPFAR on Saturday and attend a ceremony marking 20 years since Al-Qaeda bombed the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 people.

Tillerson is due to travel to Chad on Monday then on to Nigeria later in the day

Delta Police Commissioner Mr. Muhammed Mustafa has stated that armed herdsmen will be treated as robbers and kidnappers.

Mustafa said this while speaking to newsmen in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He said the command had stepped up measures to recover illegal arms in the possession of herdsmen.

He said: “We have set up a task force headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Wagbara.

“We have real herdsmen, who are law-abiding, but any herdsman seen carrying arms should be taken as a criminal. He will be treated as a robber or kidnapper.”

Mustafa restated that the 21-day grace period, which starts from March 1, had been given to people to surrender illegal arms to the command through area commanders.

He listed the affected persons as members of vigilance groups and neighbourhood watch, town unions, hunters, night guards and herdsmen.

Mustafa said at the expiration of the ultimatum, anyone found in possession of illegal arms would be arrested, investigated and prosecuted

Little did he know that the celebration was more than a birthday but was also a send off as he was forced on exile by the military junta just two months fater he celebrated with friends.
He shared the story on Instagram where he uploaded a picture taken at the event. The picture shows him with a lady carrying a baby (probably his wife), Sir Shina Peters and Chris Okotie looking all young and in a happy mood. Read his quote below.

The visit is in continuation of Governor Shettima’s tradition of making checking of former leaders and elders in recognition of their service to Borno. It is also part of culture of making regular consultations with elders and former leaders on issues of governance.

The Governor recognises the wisdom and experience of former leaders and elders, which he said, go a long way in helping him to make sound decisions since 2011 when he assumed office.

A Thursday night fire has destroyed goods and properties worth over N3 billion at Bida old market in Niger State.

The fire, which started at about 8.30 p.m., razed down the entire market.

Witnesses said firemen from the Bida Fire Service station and Federal Polytechnic, who arrived early were unable to save the situation.

Alhaji Mohammad Bagudu, Chairman of Bida Local Government Area, said the entire market of over 900 shops was burnt to ashes.

“It happened just last night and we are here today to assess the situation. I can’t say anything about the cause for now; we will investigate the matter and then know the next line of action.

“Commercial activities in Bida and entire zone A is crippled as thousands of bags of rice, maize, plastics, beverages, garri, yam flour are among the items burnt to ashes,” Bagudu said.

A trader, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, who lost three shops to the fire said, “I received a call around 9:15 pm on Thursday night that the market is burning and my shops are among those affected.

“I left my house immediately and when I got to the market, I became helpless as I could not do anything to salvage the situation.

“I have just received consignment from Lagos; I am finished, the fire has destroyed me completely,” he said,

Another trader, Alhaji Isa Kabiru said: “I have over 700 bags of rice, maize and vegetable oil all destroyed in seven different shops in this market.”

Also, Alhaji Danlami Abubakar, a rice dealer said he lost over 800 bags of rice and two shops loaded with household items.

Similarly, Hajiya Rabi Abubakar described the tragedy as an act of God.

“God gave us and has taken it back; I have taken the entire incident as an act of God.

“As I am talking to you, four of the shop owners have been taken to Bida General Hospital, right now we don’t know their conditions.”

A textile materials dealer, Hajiya Kande Habu, who said she lost five shops to the fire, urged government and well meaning Nigerians to support the victims in cushioning their losses.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, said he was not bothered about second term in office, stressing that posterity will judge him on his ongoing efforts to transform the state.

Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, El-Rufai also described the emergence and attainment of power of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015 as a “miracle.”He said the emergence of the APC and its clinching on to power in less than four years of its formation was a miracle and that the party would repeat the same feat in any election.

The governor spoke while delivering the maiden public lecture of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, entitled,”Governing Justly: Perspectives From Near & Far With Lessons From Nigeria.” The governor said at 58, he was not looking for any job, saying cancelling what he has doing in Kaduna today will be politically costly for any administration that comes after his to do because of their nature.

He added that he is not bothered about agitation for second term in office, hence he is taking well grounded decisions that would stand the test of time.

El-Rufai also boasted that there was no threat to the success of the party ahead of the 2019 general elections in the state and beyond because, according to him, the party has no formidable opposition that could stop it.

The governor said many people that voted for the APC in 2015 voted for the party “because they were tired of the PDP. Many people voted not really for APC but against PDP,” he said.

The governor labelled those agitating within the party as “rascals, trouble-makers and noise makers,” who only wanted the party to continue in the PDP ways of sharing money.

He said: “The APC has no opposition, the opposition we have is no opposition because the opposition is within the APC, there are many unhappy people, we also have many rascals, trouble makers and noise makers.

“They are simply disgruntled because they are used to the PDP ways of doing things: every month give me money, Paris Club is here, where is my money? They will remain in opposition until you have a way to alienate them.”

The governor blamed the elite for the challenges confronting Nigerians because of what he described as craze for “elite’s entitlements and selfish interests.” “The Nigerian elite is corrupt, selfish, self centred and largely divided. Like I said, there is need for consensus of the Nigerian elite,” the governor said.

On the recent religious crisis that broke out in the state, the governor said 15 persons have lost their lives to the crisis while 45 were injured.

He traced the genesis of the crisis to the case of a Christian girl who was dating a Muslim guy and wanted to convert to Islam because he wanted to marry him, a development which he said sparked of the crisis.

Former President General Ibrahim Babangida, on Thursday evening, held a closed door meeting with Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) at the former’s hilltop mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital.

According to a very reliable source closed to the hilltop mansion, the meeting which took place at the inner parlour at the upper terrace of the building lasted for about three hours.

It was gathered that Gen. Danjuma arrived at the Minna airport at exactly 11:45a.m and was driven straight to the Babangida mansion and was ushered into the private parlour.

The duo, it was gathered went into the meeting at about 1:00p.m after they had lunch when they asked every other guests that accompanied the visitor to excused them.

The meeting ended 4:05p.m. and Gen. Danjuma made way straight to his host private Mercedes Benz E class that brought him from the airport and zoomed off.

Journalists were caught unawares with the visit, but our source in the home of the retired army general said the meeting might not be unconnected with the current security and political situations in the country.

“I am very sure that they must have discussed the general situation in the country, both security and the political situation”

“Nobody was in the parlour with them. It was only two of them. The meeting started after they had lunch together and it lasted for about three hours.

“Gen. Danjuma left the house here exactly 4:05 and he was taken straight to the airport. That is all I can tell you about the visits. He was actually here and they met,” the source added.

The meeting is coming barely three weeks after Babangida released his controversial letter to President Mohammadu Buhari, advising him not to contest the 2019 general election.

A housewife who was again brutally beaten by her husband has refused to leave the marriage.

According to Human Rights activist Emeka Ugwuonye, the said woman was chased out and her kids taken from her. she also refused to leave the marriage saying she swore an oat with her husband which says any man who sleeps with her dies.
