Crime / Man Sets Neighbour Ablaze For Chasing His Fiancée by emmalezdigital: 10:51am On Jun 22, 2018
Man sets neighbour ablaze for chasing his fianc?e

45-year-old man, Baba Mohammed pictured above, has been arrested by the police in Niger state, for allegedly setting his neighbor, Usman Tetengi, ablaze for wooing his fiancée.

According to police sources, Mohammed and his fiancee have been in a relationship for a while and already agreed to get married.

However, the neighbour Usman who also likes the lady, has been disturbing her to leave Mohammed and follow him. Mohammed got wind of it and gave several warnings to Usman to leave his woman alone. Usman refused.

Yesterday, Mohammed ambushed Usman, drenced him with petrol and then set him on fire. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

When interrogated, Mohammed said he doesn't regret his action.

“I am not regretting my action because if I did not kill him at that particular time, he would have killed me; so let him go, in his next world, he will not join issues with me again. I don’t care where this case will get to, the most important thing is that I have closed his chapter and stopped him from troubling my life. There are other women in our community but he chose to make advances to the woman I proposed to marry. He has paid dearly for it, it served him right.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Muhammad Abubakar, said the victim was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Bida and was later referred to Gwagwalada Hospital, Abuja where he received treatment until his death.

Mohammed will soon be charged to court

Politics / House Of Reps In Rowdy Session Over Legality Of June 12th As Democracy Day by emmalezdigital: 3:26pm On Jun 07, 2018
The House of Representatives is currently in commotion as the lawmakers debate the legality or otherwise of having June 12 to be the nation’s democracy day.

President Buhari yesterday announced that May 29th will no longer be the recognised day of democracy but rather June 12th, the day MKO Abiola won the election in 1993, will now be recognised as democracy day.

The matter has been referred to Committees on Justice, Rules and Business, to advice the House for proper decision on the matter.

Politics / Biafra: You Are Not God – Amaechi Attacks Buhari by emmalezdigital: 2:53pm On Jun 07, 2018

A First Republic Aviation Minister, Mbazulike Amaechi, has reacted angrily to the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerian soldiers were soft on Igbo during the Civil War.

According to Amaechi, the statement by the President amounted to a challenge to God who made it possible for Igbo remnants to survive the planned war of genocide against them.

Speaking with reporters in reaction to the President’s assertion, Amaechi said, “Is Buhari God? Does he think that could have happened without the will of God? Is that that why he allowed the Fulani herdsmen to continue to unleash mayhem to accomplish what could have been accomplished during the civil war?”

He called on, “Igbo to use their tongues to count their teeth and realise that it has become quite imperative for them to unite to speak with one voice and pursue their common interest, knowing full well that they are endangered species in the Nigerian project.

The former Minister, whose son, Ikenna, is contesting for the Senate said he gave his son his blessings and his symbol of authority ‘ofo’ to go ahead and continue from where he stopped in serving Nigeria “and I want him to go there and be me.”

Politics / Aregbesola Applauds Buhari On Recognising June 12 by emmalezdigital: 12:08pm On Jun 07, 2018

Osun state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising June 12 as democracy day in place of May 29.

In a statement made available to the media in Osogbo by his media adviser, Sola Fasure, Governor Aregbesola commended the president for mustering the courage to take this historic step 25 years after the freest and fairest presidential election ever held in the history of Nigeria

According to Governor Aregbesola, “President Buhari has secured for himself an incomparable position in history for surmounting the courage to take this historic step of recognising June 13 as ‘Democracy Day’ and honouring Chief Moshood Abiola posthumously.

“June 12, 1993 was the day democracy was born in Nigeria. It was the day Nigerians negated all the social and political constructs that had been thought would make national unity impossible and democratic governance impossible, but Nigerians in their heterogeneity overwhelmingly voted for a candidate whose very essence was in defiance of religious, ethnic and regional categorisation.

“It is most regrettable that the election was annulled and Chief Abiola clamped in illegal detention where he later died.

“Successive administrations had suppressed the significance of June 12 and resisted every admonition to recognise the date and honour Chief Abiola.

We have since the advent of our administration shunned May 29 and celebrated June 12 as Democracy Day. We are glad therefore that President Buhari has taken this bold step and set the record straight. History will be kind to him for this. I commend him for this uncommon courage and demonstration of leadership”, the statement said.

Politics / ‘only Witches Are Hunted And Nailed To The Stake’ – Lauretta Onochie by emmalezdigital: 10:42pm On Jun 06, 2018
President Buhari’s social media aide, Lauretta Onochie has just written a damning piece where she boldly came for the National Assembly as well as former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo.

In her words, ‘When the President sends the budget belonging to the people of Nigeria to the National Assembly for appropriation, the budget goes to seven months imprisonment because our President would not do what Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan did: Ferry sacks of #GhanaMustGo full of dollars to oil the passage of the budget’.

Read her full article below….

In 2015, Nigerians began the process of recovering their nation from the hardened criminals who hijacked Nigeria for sixteen years. With an APC majority in the National Assembly, we had hoped for a speedy recovery and transformation of our nation, believing that we all understood the meaning of change.

For starters, it took the better part of five months of President Buhari swimming through the mud to finally have a glimpse of what looked like a nation from where Ministers would be nominated. He was determined to begin to address the issue of marginalization in appointments. Where possible, he reached out to some of the over 200 minority ethnic groups for his ministerial nominees.

This did not go down well with the power brokers in our nation. Senator Ike Ekweremadu screamed hard and threw a tantrum. He said he had never heard of the nominated minister from his native Enugu State. But the hitherto unknown Igbo sub group that produced the Minister of Foreign Affairs, felt a sense of belonging in a nation where the Ike Ekweremadus of this nation have continuously nominated themselves to serve, without a thought for the minority groups in their areas.

But it has been a nightmare. A cabal had quickly developed and seized the National Assembly. This cabal worked as if the National Assembly was their private estate in total disregard to the welfare of those who elected them. They do not count.

When Nigerians recovered their nation from the hardened criminals that hijacked our nation for sixteen years, no one thought the cabal at the National Assembly, would become the major opposition to the recovery of our nation. After all, what we promised was to bring about a change in the ways we had done things in the past that favoured only a few at the top.

All their actions have been selfish, self-centred and egocentric. They wanted the status quo to remain. Consequently, they started by waging war on the President for his choice of Ministers. They had a free hand to place their cronies as heads of House Committees. But they also wanted to appoint Ministers and others for the President. They wanted to run the Presidency, own the Presidency and dictate who should be hired or fired.
This same cabal is now posing as the defender of the ordinary Nigerians. Hian!

Nigerians are not fooled. They know the man who is fighting to deepen our democratic experience as a nation. They also know pretenders to the throne of democracy, who have put themselves above the laws of our land and above everyone of us.

Nigerians know those who have refused to make laws that can help the war on corruption move some steps further, sanitize our nation and propel us into the 21st century.

Democracy means that we are all equal before the law. The law goes after those who break it.
The beauty of what we have today is that Pres. Muhammadu Buhari will not dictate to any law enforcement agency as to who to invite for questioning and who to arrest or discharge. It’s the laws and the agencies that have the prerogative to go after alleged criminals.

The whole world knows that Nigerian institutions and systems are weak. Thats what Pres. Buhari inherited. The best way to strengthen them is not to breathe down on them, by interferring in the way they do their jobs. The best way to do it is to give them the space they require to exercise their initiatives in the application of our laws in the exercise of their duties. Some people are not pleased with this.

But It Appears God is moving for Nigerians again, As Usual. What we are witnessing in our nation today, is not chaos. What is happening is the change we all yearned and voted for. It’s the storm before the calm.

Change is when a Nigerian elite who allegedly commits a crime, is treated the same way as an ordinary Nigerian who allegedly commits a similar crime.

When a member of the Senate who should be above board is caught pants down, senators elected to serve their people, take the mandate of their people to court, to show solidarity with CRIME

Some ordinary Nigerians, who are confused and misinformed, are hired to protest the invitation of an elite by a law enforcement agency to answer a few questions. If one has no questions to answer, what’s the fear in respecting and answering the calls by the laws of our land?

Some uninformed and self interest persons and groups, call it a witch-hunt. In A witch-hunt, only witches are hunted and nailed to the stake. If you are erroneously caught and you are not a witch, you will be asked to go home with a good measure of apologies.

When the President sends the budget belonging to the people of Nigeria to the National Assembly for appropriation, the budget goes to seven months imprisonment because our President would not do what Presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan did: Ferry sacks of #GhanaMustGo full of dollars to oil the passage of the budget.
That’s another change that is not going down well.

Although we have more honourable and distingushed ladies and gentlemen in our National Assembly, that institution, has experienced stunted growth in our democratic journey. Impunity, abuse of processes, intimidation and bullying are the order of the day for the few members of the cabal in that arm of the government against the vast majority of our honourable and distinguished Assembly men and women.

Votes are either not taken at all or the dubious voice vote is used. No one has bothered to ask why the installed voting system in the National Assembly is never put to use. It’s all part of the corruption that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our systems and institutions.

Subsequent governments have encouraged them in the path of impunity, to live above the laws of our land. There were dormant laws for them and another set of active laws for ordinary Nigerians. But there again, did we really expect any better from PDP-led governments that were anchored on daylight impunity and corruption! But we promised change and there must be a change in the way the National Assembly treat Nigerians.

We are lucky to have a President who is determined, even if it means losing in 2019, to bring about the change he promised the nation. So, that change is non negotiable. It will not be truncated. It will be total. It will be deep. It will be all encompassing. It will set us apart from where we were.

That change means that we are all equal before the law. It’s therefore, unfair and extremely sad that some young Nigerians who were caught for bank robbery, are being held by the police while their alleged accomplice, is sitting in the HALLOWED CHAMBER of the House of Senate that belongs to the good Citizens of this great nation. The Police has the constitutional rights to invite suspects for interrogations. Face to face interrogations reveal more than the Police already know.

No one is above the law. If you don’t want the law to come after you, stay on the side of the law. The law will always protect those who do not trample on it. That’s the fact of life. Change must happen.
God bless Nigeria.
Lauretta Onochie.

Politics / PDP On A Rescue Mission In Nigeria – Secondus by emmalezdigital: 8:26pm On May 05, 2018

The National Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has said that the party was on a rescue mission to liberate Nigerians from the manacles of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He added that the party would not be intimidated by any force ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Secondus made the remarks at the PDP South-West Zonal rally on Saturday in Osogbo, insisting that the party was on a rescue mission to take power from the APC in Osun state and at the federal level.

He said that members of the party would work harder to win the 2019 general elections, adding that the masses were tired of the APC-led administration.

“PDP will win the forthcoming governorship election in Osun, Ekiti and the general elections in 2019. APC should start packing their loads because they cannot win again.

“We will not succumb to any form of intimidation because we are on a mission to rescue the nation,” Secondus said.

Former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in his remarks, encouraged members of the party to work hard and become more cohesive and united ahead of 2019 election, saying that the party would do everything possible to rescue power from APC-led federal government in 2019.

In the same vein, a former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido said members of the party must be prepared ahead of 2019 general elections to take the mantle of leadership at the centre.

Also, Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state said the party was adequately prepared for Ekiti, Osun and the 2019 general elections.

He said that the party would strongly slug it out with the APC and bring to bear its superior political acumen

Politics / Dogara Reveals Those That Will Be Held Responsible If Anything Happen To Dino by emmalezdigital: 6:15pm On May 03, 2018

Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged the police to prioritise the health and safety of Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, who is in their custody.

Sen. Melaye was arraigned for attempted suicide and other charges at an Abuja court on Wednesday while lying on a stretcher. Immediately he was granted bail in the sum of N90 million by the judge, he was rearrested by the police and transferred to Lokoja, Kogi State.

Consequently, a Senior Magistrate court 2 in Lokoja has remanded Melaye in Police custody till June 11, 2018.

Reacting at Thursday plenary, Dogara, after a point of order raised by Sunday Karimi (PDP, Kogi) where he urged the house to intervene in the senator’s ordeals, said that he had not seen any country where anybody, ”had been arraigned in court on a stretcher.”

“I have not seen in any country where someone is arraigned in court on stretchers when he or she is not fit to plead guilty or not guilty. If anything happens to him, (Dino) the responsibility will be on the security agency,” Mr Dogara said.

Crime / 13 Killed As Cattle Rustlers, Villagers Clash In Zamfara by emmalezdigital: 5:51pm On May 03, 2018

No fewer than 13 people were killed in protracted clashes between cattle rustlers and local civilian militia in northern Nigeria of Zamfara state.

The state police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu said on Thursday that the militia and cattle thieves fought a gun battle Tuesday through Wednesday in the remote village of Fankashi in the Maru district of the state.

“Our men recovered 13 dead bodies from the criminal gang and the vigilantes from the village after the fight,” he added.

“The village was attacked by the bandits, resulting in the fight with the militia, who were armed with locally made, single-shot muskets.”

“Police reinforcements were later sent to the area,” said Shehu.

On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, ordered the deployment of 200 combat policemen to Zamfara and neighbouring Kaduna state, which is suffering similar problems.

Idris was reported to have given the order during a visit to Birnin Gwari district in Kaduna state, where armed bandits killed 10 gold miners last weekend.

Politics / Ex-vp Atiku Abubakar: I’ll Restructure Nigeria In 6 Months If Elected President by emmalezdigital: 9:32am On Apr 26, 2018

Auto Draft

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has said he would restructure Nigeria in six months if elected president in the 2019 elections.

Mr Abubakar stated this Wednesday during a question and answer session at the Chatham House in UK after delivering a lecture titled: “The Importance of Strengthening State Economic Management Systems”.

He also said he would offer a matching grant of $250 million each to the 36 states of the federation to challenge them to enhance their Internally Generated Revenue.

He said he was not surprised by President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that Nigerian youth were lazy because he (Buhari) had never managed a business.

“It is doable. In fact, what I’ve told many Nigerians at home is that if you give me six months, I know I will be able to achieve a fast level of restructuring, otherwise the concurrent list issue.

“It’s very easy to deal with it because there is no state that you will call and say ‘I want to give you this responsibility together with the resources’, and will say ‘no’.”

He said he wants people of every state to be able to hold their leaders accountable because of how the federal Government “is being accused of everything, even when it’s not in its area of responsibility.”

“I want to be able to resolve that so that citizens can hold their local leaders responsible for lapses and maladministration.”

Asked if he would consider running as an independent candidate should he fail to secure the ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, which he recently defected back to, he said, “We’ll wait until that time”.

He added that he would make Nigeria attractive for those living in diaspora to return.

On President Muhammadu Buhari’s description of some Nigerian youth as lazy bunch, Mr Abubakar said the president would not describe Nigerian youth as lazy if he (Buhari) was an employer of labour.

“On the issue of youth, I am an employer of labour and most of that labour is youth-dominated and I make a lot of profits from my businesses.

“I don’t agree with the assumption that the youths are lazy or they are indolent. Certainly, I don’t. But I’m not surprised with the fellow (Buhari) who made that remark because he’s not an employer of labour, he has no business, he has no educational institution so he doesn’t relate with youth in schools so I don’t blame him.”

He criticised the multiple exchange rate in the country, saying it does not encourage foreign investors to put their money in Nigeria.

He said “his federal government” will continue to offer support, despite the $250 million grant for states that rank below the average development index, until such a time as they are able to become self-sufficient and sustaining.

“Beyond institutional and administrative reforms to improve operational efficiency of the revenue agencies, the federating units will be challenged to double their efforts in rebuilding the fiscal-social contract, by enhancing service delivery in key areas such as health, education, water supply and infrastructural development.

“Only this would change the predominant perception that government revenues are diverted to the private bank accounts of politicians and their cronies.”

Mr Abubakar who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the opposition PDP, on whose platform he served as vice president, is seeking the party’s nomination to serve as its presidential flag bearer in upcoming 2019 presidential election.

He criticised senators of his former party, APC, of betrayal following the “shocking and saddening” decision of the Senate not to grant devolution of power to the states during the constitutional amendment last year.

He said the decision by the APC-controlled Senate was “a lost opportunity to honour one of the party’s election promises to bring about change by shifting power closer to the people in the remotest regions of our country”.

Politics / Presidency Blames “evil” Benue Killings On Unnatural Herdsmen by emmalezdigital: 8:51am On Apr 26, 2018

The Presidency has blamed the sustained attacks and killings in Benue State on “abnormal and unnatural” herders.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity said this on Wednesday amid outrage over Tuesday’s attack on a Catholic church and killing of two priests and worshippers and injuring several others.

“What we now seem to have on our hands are the normal herdsmen who carry sticks and cutlass and some abnormal and unnatural herdsmen who are killers in disguise who perpetrate this evil,” Mr Adesina said in a Skype interview on Politics Today.

“You see that it is a multi-dimensional thing now. It is beyond the ordinary farmers-herdsmen clash which we have had with us for decades.”

During a visit to victims of the church attack, Benue State Deputy Governor, Benson Abuonu, had lamented the continued killings.

“We are under siege and I do believe that this has gone beyond the normal herdsmen-farmers crisis,” he said.

Mr Adesina, who said he watched Mr Abuonu on TV, added that the deputy governor’s claim that killings were beyond the herdsmen-farmers clash was “instructive”.

Since January 1, 2018, when suspected herdsmen attacked villages in Benue killing 73 persons, the state government has been calling out for decisive action.

The deployment of more security personnel and the commencement of military exercise – Exercise Cat Race – have failed to halt the killings. Several security personnel have also been killed by attackers in the state.

After debating Tuesday’s killings during plenary on Wednesday, the House of Representatives resolved to summon President Muhammadu Buhari and called for the sacking of the service chiefs.

The Senate also summoned the Inspector-General of Police in connection with the killings and the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye.

Asked what the Federal Government was doing to secure the lives of people in Benue, Mr Adesina said, “I am aware that the security (agencies) are taking some steps. But then you know that security decisions are not what you disclose until the security (operatives) swing into action. I spoke to some people in the top echelon of security agencies and they are making some moves.”

There had been calls on the President, who condemned the killings in a statement on Tuesday, to also declare the killer herdsmen as terrorists, but Adesina said, that was unlikely to happen.

He said, “You declare those you know terrorists. If these people strike like devils and vanish like ghosts, then who do you declare terrorists?

“It is not about playing to the gallery. It is not about sheer body movement so that people can applaud you. No, it is about finding an enduring solution to this evil. It is an evil that has been unleashed on our country. It is a sinister plot. Who are those behind this sinister plot? That needs to be unravelled by security.

“Like the President said in his statement yesterday (Tuesday), they are even bent on causing bloodshed through religion. That is why they killed priests. So, there is a lot more than meets the eye in all these killings round the country.”

On the likelihood that the President would address the nation directly, Mr Adesina said he would use one of the channels of communication available when the need arises.

“Any time there is anything definite, the President, of course, will always talk to the country. There are many channels of communication and he will use any of them,” he said.

Family / My Wife Denies Me Sex, Gives It To Church Members Freely – Pastor by emmalezdigital: 4:46pm On Apr 11, 2018

A Pastor, Joshua Ibeneme, on Wednesday, approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to end his 21-year-old marriage to his wife, Uzoamaka for allegedly having sex with two of his church members.

Ibeneme told the court that his wife was messing around with his male members, NAN reports.

“My wife had sexual affair with two of my church members, a deacon and a bishop. Both were boasting telling my other members that they slept with my wife because she enticed them.

“Whenever I return from a trip, my last born always tells me that men came to pick and drop my wife. Even God told me to divorce her or else she will destroy my ministry,” he claimed.

The petitioner said that his wife denied him sex for five years.

“My wife starved me of sex for over five years. Whenever I want to sleep with her, she will be given one excuse or another, in fact, she had moved out of my room to a separate room.

“But she gives it to my members freely,” the pastor said.
The 53-year-old pastor said that his wife was always mocking and embarrassing him in public telling people about his sexual performance.

He said that Uzomaka always accused him of having affairs with any female member who came to the house for counselling.

“She accused them of dating me and also goes to their houses to fight them. Her behavior and attitude have chased members away from my church,” he said.

According to him, Uzomaka instigated their children against him, they do not respect him and they refused to run errands for him except when their mother permitted them to do so.

He begged the court to divorce the loveless union claiming he was no longer in love with his wife.
However, the respondent, Uzomaka, denied having sex with their church members but accused her husband of infidelity.

“It is women that cause our frequent fighting, they are the problem in our home and my husband’s lust for them is very high.

“I never slept with the two men who claimed that they slept with me, they just wanted to tarnish my image, my husband is dating the wife of the deacon,” she said.

The mother of three said that she starved her husband of sex because she hated sex adding that she married him because she wanted children.

The 45-year-old teacher said that her husband became sexually inactive five years ago.

“He calls me derogatory names in public such as ‘prostitute’. I did not instigate the children against him,’’ she explained.

She begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish to dissolve the marriage claiming she was still in love with him.

The court president, Mr Akin Akinniyi, urged the couple to maintain peace and adjourned the case to May 10 for judgment.

Politics / Buhari Denies Approving $1bn For Arms Purchase by emmalezdigital: 5:55pm On Apr 09, 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday denied approving the release of $1 billion for arms’ procurement.

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, had told State House reporters last Wednesday after Buhari met with security chiefs that the president approved the release of the fund, from the Excess Crude Account, for military equipment’s purchase to fight insecurity.

The National Assembly had kicked against such approval, saying it could not stand without recourse to the legislature.

But Buhari, in a statement Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, said the fund had not been approved.

“The said sum has not and cannot be approved for spending by Mr. President,” the presidential aide emphasised.

According to Enang the process of approving the money for use is still undergoing executive standard operating procedure before presenting same to the National Assembly for approval.

He said the fund could only be spent “upon and in the manner as shall be approved by the National Assembly and assented to in an Appropriation Act or a supplementary Appropriation Act.”

Enang repeated that Buhari had not approved the sum for any release of the arms’ procurement or application howsoever.

He said before any sum is released from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, there must be

Appropriation Act, Vote of Charge and Warrant which is legally predicated on appropriation authorization sub-head under the Act.

Politics / Balarabe, Makarfi, Others React To Buhari’s Decision To Seek Re-election by emmalezdigital: 5:41pm On Apr 09, 2018

Nigerians have welcomed the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to seek re-election in 2019, saying it was a good decision, as it would help consolidate the gains recorded by his administration, if re-elected.

However, some members of the opposition political parties said in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto and Kaduna that the President won’ t find it easy going for second term.

Alhaji Sidi Ali, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, said, “Buhari has all it takes to re-contest and the decision is a welcome development.

“He is governing well and has the capacity to continue with the good work, and I am sure more good transformations will happen in the country, if he is re-elected.”

Malam Kasimu Chiyama, Chairman Dadin Kowa Youth Association in Kwannawa, Sokoto state expressed joy over the announcement.

“We will support him fully because he is the only candidate that has been good to Nigerians.”

Two Sokoto residents, Hajia Hauwa’u Magode and Abdullahi Maiyogot expressed excitement over President Buhari’s position and prayed Allah to continue to guide him.

However, Mr Samson Samuel, a student, faulted the decision, saying the President should consider his age and health status.

“The APC will surely make a mistake by nominating Buhari to re-contest.

“Buhari is a good leader but in recognition of his age and health status he should have rested, as he had spent most time during this tenure on medical treatment abroad.”

Also, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, former Governor of Kaduna State welcomed the declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari to seek re-election in 2019.

Musa, a chieftain of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) said in a telephone interview that his party would, however, come up with a strong candidate to challenge Buhari in the elections.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is welcome on board, but we want to assure Nigerians that the PRP has a presidential candidate to field in the 2019 general elections,” he said

Similarly, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, former National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP), said in a text message that: “It’s no news that he is contesting, it would have been news if he had announced the opposite.”

The Sokoto state Secretary of PDP, Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu, said Nigerians should vote out the APC or prepare for “another four years of hunger.”

“Buhari’s age and health condition are all in Allah’s hand, but what is more of concern is good governance and ability to transform the country better.

“Nigerians should vote PDP to avoid continuous hunger and maladministration that subject people to hardships,” Aliyu said.

Politics / 2019: Oby Ezekwesili Reacts To Buhari’s Declaration For Second Term by emmalezdigital: 4:36pm On Apr 09, 2018

Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, advocacy group, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of his ambition to seek a second term in office come 2019.

In a tweet on Monday, the former minister of Education wrote: “Reading the Breaking News that our President will be seeking reelection in 2019, I remembered the story of the “Ejionu” masquerade.

“Our President had not yet recovered from his first journey and here he is UNLIKE the very wise Ejionu, seeking to embark on a second one. Hmmm.

“The nice part of the “Breaking News” is that it is good to formally know that it is directly to @NGRPresident @MBuhari that Nigerian citizens will shortly be handing the APC’s own #RedCardToAPCAndPDP in 2019.

“There was a masquerade which in a burst of Hubris left its own village & strayed into a neighboring town.

“The neighbors gave it the beating of a lifetime, it barely survived.

“Asked some months later if it would go again, it replied:

“I have not recovered from my 1st journey!”.

Celebrities / My Ex-lover Hit My Range Rover With His Okada – Actress Lizzy Anjorin by emmalezdigital: 3:48pm On Mar 29, 2018

Popular Nollywood actress and movie producer, Lizzy Anjorin, has derided her ex-lover who she said abandoned her for a lady whose dad was a friend to a commissioner.

Describing it as a “suicidal experience,” Lizzy took to her Instagram page to narrate how she ran into the ex-lover who then described her as “eba” (cassava meal) in comparison to the other lady that he called a “salad.”

The actress, whose Instagram handle is @lizzyanjorin, said she was suicidal when the unnamed man ended their relationship.

Unknown to her, things probably didn’t go as the ex-boyfriend had planned, as he appeared to have run into challenging times, which seemed to force him to turn to operating a commercial motorcycle popularly called Okada.

How did she find out? She said she came face to face with the man when someone hit her Range Rover with his motorcycle.

She said she stormed out of her four-wheeler to see the man who was careless enough to hit a multimillion naira engine-on-wheels with a commercial motorcycle that could only have cost a hew thousand naira.

What she saw left her in shock, the actress said; as the Okada rider happened to be her ex-lover whose action nearly made her to commit suicide.

The actress said she fled the scene in shock.

She recalled the experience in a post which she shared on instagram.

Politics / Lagos Police Command Reacts To News Of Planned Protest During Buhari’s Visit by emmalezdigital: 3:21pm On Mar 29, 2018

Reacting to the news of the Nigerian Bar Association Ikeja branch’s plans to stage a protest over the Land Use Charge policy of the Lagos State Government during President Buhari’s visit to Lagos, the state’s commissioner of police has reacted to that.

In a statement signed by the State PRO, the police boss, Chike Oti said the planned protest is nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers, using the NBA’s platform to wreck havoc.

“It must be recalled that on the 12th of March 2018, the Lagos State Police Command availed the NBA Ikeja branch its security assets and escorted them to the Government House Alausa to protest the increase in the Land Use Charge. At Alausa they were addressed and afterwards escorted back to their base. It is baffling that the same NBA whose right to protest has never been denied to use the auspicious occasion of the President’s visit to protest and disrupt the occasion and by extension compromise, the security of the President is to say the least most incomprehensible” the statement read.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos State Police Command will not tolerate any protest from the NBA or from any group or individual for that matter during the visit of Mr President whom Lagosians are ready to receive warmly. The NBA and any group wanting to protest at this time are warned to jettison the idea or face dire consequences which may include arrest and prosecution of participants. It is curious that of all the NBA branches in Lagos, it is only the Ikeja branch that has been using the option of protest and civil disobedience despite several options available to it thus lending credence to the intelligence report that the Chairman of the NBA is a pawn in the hands of some disgruntled politicians”.

Politics / APC Caucus Meeting: We Discussed Serious Issues, Not My Removal, Says Oyegun by emmalezdigital: 10:33am On Mar 27, 2018

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr John Odigie-Oyegun has said that the meeting of the party’s national caucus on Monday night discussed more serious issues but not about his removal from office.

Odigie-Oyegun, who fielded questions from State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting which was chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, said the meeting discussed the party’s report on true federalism.

He dismissed the insinuation that the members of the national caucus deliberated on a court case instituted against him by some aggrieved members of the party.

Some members of the APC had dragged the national chairman to court over what they described as “illegal tenure elongation’’

Others alleged that Odigie-Oyegun had been running the accounts of the party without recourse to majority of national officers of the party.
But the party chairman said that the issue of his removal from office as being advocated by the aggrieved members had now become history.

“No, the meeting concluded the agenda we started the last time we met which we did not complete.

“Today we discussed true federalism, something a lot more serious, a lot more serious,’’ he added.

Politics / Kirikiri & Ikoyi Prisons Are No More Suitable For Present Locations – Ambode by emmalezdigital: 10:22am On Mar 27, 2018

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has restated the commitment of his administration to partner with the Nigerian Prisons Service to address some of the challenges affecting the prisons system in the State.

The Governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tunji Bello, during a study visit of delegates from the Nigerian Prisons Service Academy, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, added that the State Government is willing to collaborate with them in meeting some of their demands and enabling them to live up to expectations in the State.

He informed that despite the State Government’s awareness that the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison and Ikoyi Prison have become overpopulated as well as unsuitable for the present locations, the State Government cannot relocate them without the consent of the Federal Government.

Ambode stressed that the State Government’s desire to relocate the prisons to places like Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe axis where vacant land exists was made unachievable by the refusal of the last government at the centre. He explained that a clear example was the reforms that the State Government introduced in the Judiciary which not only improved welfare packages of judicial officers but strengthened the institution against corruption.

The Governor stated that since the inception of Democracy, the Government has continued to develop infrastructure in the State because the present administration places so much value on human capital and ensures everything works for all citizens in a bid to reduce crime in the society. Earlier in his Speech, the Commandant of Prisons Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, and the head of the team Ag. ACG Benson Oluwayiopese stated that Lagos was chosen as a place to visit because the State has become the leading light in the comity of States with a great leader behind its success story.

He added that the achievements that have been recorded by the present Administration resonate across the world. The Commandant thereafter presented a plaque titled “Exemplary Leadership Award” to the Governor through the SSG, Mr. Tunji Bello.

Politics / PDP Deserves Praises For Apologizing To Nigerians, Says Party Spokesperson by emmalezdigital: 9:59am On Mar 27, 2018
The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said the party deserves to be congratulated for having the confidence to apologise to Nigerians.

The Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said this in an interview on Channels Television Programme, Politics Today.

DAILY POST recalls that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Uche Secondus, had apologised to Nigerians for what he described as mistakes the party made while in power.

He made this public apology while delivering a speech at an event in Abuja with the theme: ‘Nation-building: Resetting The Agenda.’

Secondus admitted that although the party did its best while in government, it was not void of mistakes.

Reacting to question on if the PDP was truly remorseful and if the party deserves Nigerians’ trust to be re-elected into power, Ologbondiyan said PDP should rather be congratulated for owning up to its past mistakes.

“I expected you to congratulate the Peoples Democratic Party for having the courage to confront Nigerians and apologise. We have not only apologised as a party, we are very remorseful,” he said.

Ologbondiyan also explained further why the party apologised to Nigerians over past mistakes.

According to him, the party was apologising because it allowed the nation to slip into a ‘pathetic situation.’

“Our apology has to do with the fact that we allowed a movement that has no structure to take over the governance of this nation and push Nigerians to a situation of hunger and starvation and to a pathetic situation, so much that the world is contemplating how they can help us.

“That is the essence of our apology,” he said.

Ologbondiyan also boasted that the party had turned a new leaf and learnt from its past mistakes, thereby seeking Nigerians’ trust to return to power.

He said, “The PDP is the most mature and experienced party. We have seen it all, we have made mistakes in the past but we have come anew. Our party has started a new life.”
