TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 11 by Emmanuelson(m): 8:32pm On Mar 21, 2017
Please I need answers to these questions guys

1 : is it true that in most cases students visa applicant that have been petitioned for immigrant visa (but not yet current ) by their parents or family are denied visa ? In My case my mom just petitioned for me few months ago and it won't be current till 2024 or 2025 and I've just started my masters application.

2 : will applying to schools in the same state my mom lives be a problem for me at the interview ?

TravelRe: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by Emmanuelson(m): 3:04pm On Feb 08, 2017
VisaOfficer:
The processing is the same, but the wait may be shorter. Immediate relative visas filed by U.S. citizens are immediately "current" meaning they do not wait for a number to become available. These are for spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents. Siblings and older children will need to wait for a number. Generally, these waits are shorter for American citizen filers, but not always. The visa bulletin (search for that term) will give you a better idea.

That said, assuming everything is OK, your file will automatically convert from an LPR filer to an American citizen filer, so waiting these few months for her to gain citizenship probably won't make anything faster.

Regards,
VO
Thanks for the reply sir I really do appreciate
But sir will you rather advice she file for me now or wait till then?
And how long will it take for me to get a visa interview date if she file as a USC ?
TravelRe: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by Emmanuelson(m): 2:54pm On Feb 07, 2017
Good day VO

sir/ma I will like to know if it is true that the petition of a united state citizen(USC) is attended to faster than that of LPR or they treat both cases in the same way..I'm asking because my mom is currently a LPR and someone advice her not to file for me (unmarried child over 21years old ) until she become USC in few months time. The person claim they will attend to her petition faster then than if she file the petition now.

Good evening vo, please sir how long does it take before a petition filed for a 23year old son of a USC to be called for interview at the embassy?? I hear it takes up to 10years

I'm a beneficiary in my moms DV win back in 2011 but I didn't travel with her. But is there any chance of still traveling as a beneficiary ??

My last question sir is there any chance of getting a visit visa as a beneficiary for Immigrant visa ? to have spend some time with my mom before my nysc start later this year...

Thanks sir

Sorry, she can't easily file for you if you are not a minor...Filing for an adult offspring takes about 10years. Coming here with tourist and the hope to work is the deadliest risk ever but you go survive am if u get strength to persevere lol and changing tourist to F1 is another whole struggle. My 2cents for ya: Come in with F1, use your mom's link to do under table during hols or just wait till she becomes a full citizen then you can come visit and then
Thanks a lot for your contribution...I will start application for my masters now...seems that's the best shot I have now..thanks once again

dude apply for students visa from here. You cannot go on a visit visa and study at the same time. Your application would be rejected and spoil ur chances of ever getting a visit visa again.
Thanks a lot Bro I really appreciate

It depends. The petition process is handled by USCIS and goes faster or slower depending on how quickly you turn in all of the required documents.
Alright thanks a lot for the answer sir...have a blessed week

The legal way for you to immigrate to the United States is by having your mother petition. You can learn more about the process at http://travel.state.gov/.
I visited the site sir and I still can't get the answer to my question...sir, I want to know if she file petition for me with my age(22) how long it will take before I will be invited for interview at the embassy

Hello VO, good morning

My mom have been living in usa since 2011(after winning the visa lottery)..she wants to file for me (I'm 22 and will be 23 march 2016) but I have few questions...

1..how long will the filing process take?

2..how long before I will be called for interview cos I learnt it takes long time for someone over the age of 18(not sure if it's true)

3..if the process will take longer than expected what other legal way can she take to get me there with her..

Thanks

Also, my mum currently lives in the US after winning the visa lottery in 2011 with my name as a beneficiary....what are my chances of getting a non immigrant visa when my name is already listed with the immigrant visa(the beneficiary from my mum's lottery win)..

You do not need NYSC discharge certificate to apply for Visa, but I doubt if you gonna meet up with spring 2016, cos u will be graduating dis November and after ur final exam am sure your result and transcripts is not gonna be out immediately, at least 2-3 month depending on ur school, by this time you are already in early 2016, of which you can't meet up with the deadline anymore. my advice is that u work towards fall 2016 session, you might av even start ur youth service, then u abscond. All d best...
nedum360:
You don't need discharge certificate to apply for visa. NYSC could b skipped only if you have plans of leaving 9ja for good.
Thanks alot guys i will start working towards fall 2016...
