They always need to go into the avatar state when fighting powerful opponents, so it's probably less risky to get it over with and end things quickly. Nobody has ever been able to fight toe to toe with an avatar in the avatar state; not to mention defeating them, so the risk of being killed in that state is zero. Except when Korra was poisoned, which would not have happened if she had started with the avatar state.

Ok, Korra is a hot head. She rushes into action and gets beat. Aang didn't do that, that's cool. They have different ways of getting where they are going.

The avatar state is powerful but not unstoppable.

I hate the avatar state because it's like God mode. The avatars get their asses kicked but once they go to the avatar state, they win. The only reason the avatars don't win all their battles is that they don't go into the avatar state immediately, leaving them vulnerable to poison, etc.

Aang was better, no doubt! He's like an ajepako kid, he had to struggle for everything, from elements to love and in the end he got it right.

Unlike Korra, who is more or less an ajebutter kid, she had and still has everything at her disposal talk of civilization, talk of teachers, talk of bending infant Korra mastered all four elements + avatar state in on season. Even with all these, she still fumbles.


The only way Korra is better is because she faces more dangerous enemies than Aang.

Korra is a legend, we get that from the title. "Avatar, the Legend of Korra". She is doing lots of thing during her time as the avatar.
Aang did two things during his time as avatar. He ran away when was 12 and hide for 100yrs, we get from the title "Avatar, the Last Air bender", and he stopped fire lord Ozi, fire lord Ozi is a less powerful bender than fire lord Sozin which is why Aang was able to stop him easily.
