The Proprietor of my kids school just sent me a long message requesting if we can pay for the third term so as to pay for the teachers March salary even the second term examination has not been done. He even asked if he can get a loan. How do you expect me that I am working from home and my salary has been reduced to 50% to do that? I pity them.

lolzzz I called my teaching staffs to check on them and one was asking for salary....lol I laffed....reminded her her letter said payment after 4 working weeks at a go....I Sha sent Dem 2k each to hold body...no be me bring corona

there is enough money in running a school, it is one of the best investment if you have the time and resources

i have a friend that is a school proprietor and also teaches, he said he makes profit of about ten million every term after staff salaries and every expenses

he built his duplex within six months and drives a car of about three million, and he doesn't have any other bussiness.

He was generalizing that's the issue. Our revenue ain't even up to a quarter of that amount here in a community were we beg parents to pay fees and some even run away after learning. Yet my Dad doesn't owe any of his teacher....after paying we have peanuts as left over

Everyone is blaming school owners but none has ever looked out with the eyes of school owner. Don't let us forget that school generates their income from fees that parents made and this cover for overheads, staff salaries and others. Since their is no sessions and nobody is paying they can't pay any staff.. Cos where will the money comes from.

I am sure the school is about 20 years or more and the owners have built enough reserves, or the owners have other sources of income. No matter the size of the reserves built my a school, the reserves can usually last maximum of 4 months.

Just pray that this lockdown does not last till September as some people have projected.

those shouting private lesson, tell me who will hire a tutor for his child when he or she is struggling to feed at this point in time. I once teach in private schools, it is almost the worst thing to happen to a human being, pay wise; its total rubbish the only solace is the recognition from the students each time you move around neighbourhood.

I don't subscribe to that school of thought. In a formal employment, employers bear most (not all) of the risks.

If the students are not paying now, what about the huge amounts they paid previously out of which you gave out peanuts as salary?

Salary and compensations should be structured in a way that teachers can get paid even on holidays. Teaching job is not an informal employment.

I own a private school.. Not in Nigeria but in another African country.

We stopped school Mid-march and I paid full salary to all teachers and workers. But I made it clear to them that we don't have the means to pay other months if there's no school and no school fees entering. Here school fees are paid monthly and not per term.

Na so e be since. They didn't get anything in April and will not get in May. I feel for them but we can't jeopardise the future of the school for the sake of families of workers. It's a contract... You work, you receive payment. The contract isn't to take care of their families. It's simple business rule.

Some came crying they don't have anything to eat and I gave some palliatives, not in the of school oh but personal sentiments.

We pray this all stops so that everyone returns and things get back to normal.

I say mek I drop my opinion from a school owner.

You just reminded me of when I threw dirty water at my landlady's goats while I was in school, not knowing that she was outside. She started complaining bitterly and I told her I was sorry. I recently packed into my apartment somewhere in Ogun, and my neighbor's goats have been sleeping at the back of my apartment near my window and they have been urinating and passing out faeces making my room inhabitable.

So the other day, I poured some hot water on one of the goats. I discovered that the woman is into traditional medicine. She has been making some incantations since yesterday concerning the goat. And I am scared that she will hurt me.

One time, many years ago, I traveled to calabar to go see this girl. She picked me from the parked and we got to her one bedroom apartment, nice and cozy. I baff, wear singlet and boxer, crossed leg on the table changing TV channels.
2 secs my girl received a call, followed by a knock on the door. It was very obvious he paid for the apartment from the look on his face. My girl just said 'I'm sorry Dan'.
I got dressed, this guy and my girl dropped me off at the park. I reached PH by almost 11pm.

She was schooling in ado, it was around 2010... I travelled from Lagos to Ado just to see her. Bought provisions (milk, bread, 5alive,soaps,bounvita etc).

I got to her hostel around 2am because there's a heavy traffic. I almost fainted when I met a guy at her place at that time putting on just boxer, she later introduced the guy as her boyfriend. Both of them slept on the bed while she gave me mat to sleep on. I couldn't sleep because I could hear them fvcking.

The following morning, she prepared the bread, milk and bounvita I bought with my money for her boyfriend. Oboy, I don suffer.

I'm over it now, at least I didn't give in to thoughts of commiting suicide I used to hate him and wish him death, but not anymore because I have forgiven him and I wish him well, but he will never see his son again.
