Episode 2
Finally the principal came up for his
speech………………………………………………………………
……
Principal: Good morning student
We: Good morning sir
Principal: first and foremost I would
like to welcome the new students
especially the Jss1 into High Land
Secondary School
You have all been elevated from
primary to secondary school this year
but here in the secondary school
learning is advanced because you
must study and read your books
persistently
Perhaps loitering around when classes
are in progress is highly prohibited
here.
Because as you all know this is a
private school not a government
school; discipline is our No. 1 priority
……………………………………… the
principal still talking
………………………………………
Moreover before I started my speech I
didn’t introduce myself properly
But I suppose this is not the first time
of seeing me (talking to the Jss1
students)
You wrote your common entrance
examination here so you are suppose
to know my name
So who amongst you here can tell me
my name?
………………………….. I was trying to
remember when a girl in front of me
said “I sir”……………………………….
The girl: I sir
Principal: (nodded his head in
affirmation) go ahead little one
The girl: your name is Mr. Adeyemi
Gbenga
Principal: wow! That’s correct, clap
for her
We: (clapped) together repeatedly
Principal: it’s ok students, and what is
your name my smart girl?
The girl: my name Doro Ebuchi sir
Principal: ok, that’s good keep it up,
now I will allow all of you to go to
your various classes but make sure
you cooperate with your new tutors &
pay attention to them, is that clear?
We: (all answered) yes sir
we left in a straight sequence to our
various classes, we sat in the
classroom quietly everything seems
very boring to me as this was not
what I had in mind as my first day in
school, I opened my school bag and
brought out my English textbook
opened to a certain page of my choice
and started reading absent mindedly
Suddenly a boy tapped me from
behind and asks
The boy: what is the name of the
textbook you are reading?
Me: (answered) comprehensive
English
The boy: that text book contains a lot
Me: really?
The boy: yes, I came across it last year
Me amazed) good dude, but I
thought it’s only for Jss1 students?
The boy: you are right but I always
read ahead
Me: ok, so what’s your name?
The boy: my name Hassan Bala, and
you?
Me: my name is Okon Peters
Bala: alright do you mind if I join you?
Me: yes of course
Bala joined me in reading as he drew
close to my seat, at this point I was
very happy to have someone talking
to me at last in the class
He gisted me about his pry school and
how he enjoyed some of the excursion
I also in turn shared some of my pry
school experience with him
We discussed about the school
environment, the new classroom, the
chair we sat on and our smart
principal.
Shortly we heard footsteps
approaching towards our direction; a
very beautiful slim dark lady emerged
soon walked majestically & stood in
front of the class.
The lady: Good morning class
We: Good morning Ma
The lady: you are all welcome to High
Land Secondary School Oshodi
We: thank you ma
The lady: I am Mrs. Comfort Taye by
name; I’m your form mistress as from
today.
By break time I will like to have all
your names on sheet of paper
…………………………………………… story
continues
……………………………………………………………..
She turns around as if she was
searching for something & pointed the
same girl that answered the
principal’s question
Mrs. Comfort: you my dear, can you
stand up please?
……………..Doro stood up waiting for
instruction I guess, the class was very
quiet at this time……………
Mrs. Comfort: Doro, please kindly
write down the names
Of everybody here & bring it to the
staff room for me, is that clear?
Doro: yes ma (she replied back
authoritatively)
Different teachers thought us four
different subjects that morning before
we went out for break
Perhaps everybody wrote his/her
name on the paper Doro brought to
the front of the class before going out.
We offered mathematics & other three
subjects after break plus extra lesson
I was very impressed by the school
teaching standard but very tired
Finally the closing bell was ranged;
hurriedly I carried my bag & ran out
of the class without saying goodbye to
Bala my friend.

Episode 1
Early in the morning of September 18,
2005 I woke up happily and said to
myself a thousand times am now a
student of Jss1
I can’t really express the joy I felt
inside of me
The time was already 6:30 am as at
now I hurriedly packed my
mathematical set and other school
items into my new school bag I
bought the previous day with my
mum in Oshodi market
At the time the jeep had been cleaned
by the gateman perhaps my mum
popularly known as Madam Gold a
well respected and influential
business woman was dressing up to
go out for the business of the day
To one of her shop in Lekki while she
will drop me in my new school.
I swiftly took my bath dressed up in
my new school uniform and went to
the dinning for my breakfast I was
surprise when I saw my mum already
sited waiting for me
………………………………………………………………………………
…………………………………………………………..
Me: Good morning mum
Mum: my darling how are you doing
and how was your night?
Me with a sound voice) fine thank
you ma
Mum: I can see you are neatly dressed
in your new school uniform
Me: yes mum, I like my new school
and I like the design on the uniform
too
Mum: hmmmmmm that’s my boy, you
can say that again
Amah the house help was a very
young girl employed by my mum at
the age of 12
Moreover she did her pry 6 with us
here the previous year and she is just
a year older than my humble self
She cheerfully served the latter the
loaf of bread and carefully poured out
the tea in the jog that was on the table
into our cups and went back to the
kitchen,
She was always the last to leave the
house perhaps her school wasn’t far
from the house then but now she too
has been admitted into Jss1 in another
school.
I was the first to grab my cup of tea as
I gulped a little of it down my throat
and eating my bread stylishly
meanwhile my mum was also drinking
her tea looking at me simultaneously
as I was eating.
7oclock on the dot my mum and I
zoomed off in a big black jeep
(Hummer) after having a fabulous
breakfast
We arrived at my new school and the
big sign board reads
<<<<<< High Land Secondary School
No.14 Adewale Crescent Oshodi
>>>>>>
. The school successfully enrolled fifty
(50) students out of the numerous
pupils that sat for the common
entrance exams that year which I
wasn’t excluded either
I walked towards the school gate
waving my mum goodbye as she
drove off
I was impressed when I saw other
students neatly dressed like me inside
the school premises
Few minutes the school bell was
ranged by the time keeper for the
school assemble, from Jss1 to Ss3 we
all lined up
Everything was different from the
primary style I knew back then, I was
the third student in the Jss1 lane
observing everything bravely.

PART 38
It was a surprise to me that Ruth and
Charmeen will be the one to anchor
today’s social night. Ruth had
just her baby phonetic voice while I
still don’t know what Charmeen will
bring to the table; he is just the
fine, handsome big boy in the studio.
Getting to the backstage, I discovered
Charmeen was drunk. Not
that it was excess but everything
about him smells alcohol. That now
raises the question that is it
compulsory or necessary that you
must take alcohol before you can be
able to face or address the crowd?
Moses, our manager was so angry. In
fact, everything just didn’t work fine
for the OBS group tonight. All
the Mics and speakers were not at
their best. The performance was good
from platoon 3 but it was soured
by the non-functionality of the
microphones. It’s just so pathetic. I
called Seyi to know where she was.
After some minutes, she came around
and we were under the tree in front
of the multipurpose hall
discussing. We discussed so many
things: family, camp life and when her
wedding would be coming up.
From our discussion, she told me she
lost her mum in 2009. Her Dad stays
in Ekiti and he is a pastor. She
is also the last born of her family and
intended getting married within the
next 2 years. When it was
9.30pm, she asked me to walk her
down to her hostel. We were talking
along the way, with her holding
my hands and her head on my
shoulder all through the walk to her
hostel. One thing I discovered about
her is that she is an introvert, just like
me too but what she doesn’t know is
that I have a way of dealing
with a co-introvert. We talked about
the rumors going round the camp that
we were dating. I told her it is
better we tell the guys in the studio
that nothing like that is happening
between us but she insisted she
wants it to remain that way. She also
told me that Mighty mic was trying to
approach her but since the
incidence happened which brought
me to the fold, he has withdrawn
himself from her automatically. I
was just laughing and staring at her at
the same time so she can speak more.
She said so many things like
what her friends were saying too,
most importantly the ones that came
to check on her in the clinic. After
a long talk, at 9.55pm, I bid her
farewell and as usual she hugged me.
I got back to the room by 10pm. U go
was busy eating so I kuku joined him.
The room was bubbling as
usual and we all discussed and
congratulated landlord for his platoon
success today. We discussed till
around 11.15pm before sleep took
everybody away. 2 Likes |

At 2.57pm, Ekene’s call woke me up.
He was informing me to go cover the
volleyball game. I told him I
was tired that he should call the rest
of the guys to cover the game. I called
Ella to know if she is back
from SAED lectures. We later met at
mama Amaka’s restaurant where I
explained everything to her. She
advised me from the best of her
knowledge. I love her company. I have
this sure assurance of a best time
with her. Just as we were discussing,
Janelle walked into the restaurant. I
snubbed her while she did the
same too. Ella and I continued our
chat and I didn’t care whether she
was there or not. I really don’t
blame the bad guys who treats girls
like a shit, would you? Still at the
restaurant at 3.35pm, thinking of
going straight to the volleyball court
to clear off my head with some good
volleyball. I later received a
call from an unknown number. I
picked it and I discovered it was a call
from my platoon leader, asking
me to come to his hostel to clear some
things. I rushed straight to the place
after I was able to get the
description from someone along the
clinic. Getting there, the man told me
I didn’t make a photocopy of
the application for redeployment I
wrote. He ordered me to go and re-
write another one, make the
photocopy and bring it to him as soon
as possible. I went in search of an A4
paper to write the application
and it took me sometime before I was
able to get one from Nnanna in the
studio. Seyi helped me in
monitoring the photocopy stand since
the guy was not at his stand. She later
called me on the phone about
the arrival of the guy. I made the
photocopy, and quickly rushed to the
platoon leader’s room to submit it.
I was only able to get the glimpse of
just the last ten minutes of the first
half game between platoon 3 and
platoon 9. The game ended goalless
which eventually ends in a penalty as
platoon 3 win the shootout on a
4-2 score line. That was landlord’s
team heading to the final of the
tournament. It was really a sad one
for
platoon 9 because they were able to
dictate the tempo of the game but at
the end, they lost out on
penalties. Seyi was with me all
through some duration of the game
before she went to meet Eka. At the
end of the game as usual, I moved I

PART 36
7
TH OF DECEMBER 2015 DAY 13 IN
CAMP “DISAPPOINTED”
I woke up by 3.23am. I can’t believe it
morning already. I stood up, had my
bath and slept again till
around 5.13am. Ugo was dressed
already. I asked if the jingle has been
blown, he said “since”. Chai! This
guy is not okay at all. They blew the
jingle and nobody cares to wake me.
Na which kind people be this
sef? I rushed up, put on my shirt
shoes and jugged to the parade
ground. The semi-final fixtures for
both
football and the volleyball game was
surprisingly not announced on them
field during the announcement.
Since they said no OBS Member
should be in the studio in the
morning, I was surprised to see Tonye
joining the morning drills. When the
time was 7.30am, the morning drills
was getting uninteresting so I
decided to leave the parade ground
for the studio. The studio was full.
Seyi, Eka, Tonye, Ayo, Jessica, etc
were all present. I greeted them all
before I proceeded to meet Ekene to
discuss the games I heard will be
played this morning. But the truth is,
the guys in charge of the games don’t
know anything about it. They
just fix the fixtures anyhow. From
what I heard, they said platoon 7 will
be playing platoon 3 again. It’s
really disheartening after all our
complaint to see that nothing was
done to the arrangement. Anyhow it
is,
na so we go do am. Breakfast was
ready. Yam and stew again. I left
immediately I was done with it.
The jingle was blown for the morning
lectures. The lecture, this time talked
about the people going for
relocation. The lecture this time was
basically about relocation. The lecture
took about an hour. I was with
the OBS crew at the back stage. Janelle
called and we both agreed to see after
the lecture. By 11.05pm,
the lecture was over so I went out of
the hall to look for Janelle. I decided
against calling her but to check
for her among the troops of crowd
rushing out of the hall. I sighted her
holding her phone trying to call
someone. Am sure I was not the one
she was trying to call because my
phone didn’t beep for once. I
followed her at the back without her
noticing me. I realized she was
heading to the clinic. I went inside to
meet her there. I was shocked when
she asked me about Seyi. I was
dumbfounded but I still managed to
compose myself immediately while I
dodged the question. I kept asking her
about her health and why she
didn’t check on me for over 3 days.
She kept complaining of network
issues on her phone bla bla bla but
staring into her eyes, I can see some
iota of lies in it. My heart shrieked. I
was sad. I maintained a straight
face all through my stay with her.
What she did she take me for? At
times I ask myself, is it a crime to be
so emotional? Is it a crime to love
someone you haven’t even, met
before? Janelle is such a player. How I
wish I could be opposite of whom I
am. I don’t blame the so called bad
guys. She shattered my thoughts
the more when she regarded me as a
“brother in faith” (laughs) I have been
a fool. I was still maintaining
that strange face which makes her
scared. I am unpredictable. I am
disappointed in you” That was the last
word I said to her before leaving the
clinic heading straight to the mamee
market to eat. I have reduced a
lot mehn. The weather, water, not
having a good sleep, in fact everything
in camp was just telling on me. I
needed to talk with someone. I needed
someone who I could talk my heart
out to. I sent a text Ella,
requesting to see her after the SAED. I
was thinking of going to sleep but I
changed my mind and I went
straight to the SAED class of designing
and customizing. We learned how to
draw, create designs on our
own and how to perfect them. We did
like two practices before the class was
closed for the day. At
1.10pm, I left the class for the hostel
having just one thing in mind, “sleep”

Part 1
In a small quiet town rich with
customs and values
in the western part of
Ekiti is a family. A polygamous home
headed by
the popular palm wine tapper
in the early 1900s. Adekunbi is one of
the well-
known palm wine tapper in a
small town called Ikogosi. Adekunbi is
a
successful palm wine tapper who
was richly blessed with wisdom and
riches.
Adekanbi had just a wife named
Jaiyesinmi. Jaiyesinmi was the second
child of the
Awele family. Her
father, Chief Kalejaiye is the otun of
Ikogosi land.
Adekunbi, being a rich
and influential man had Jaiyesinmi as
his wife.
Jaiyesinmi was known as a
woman filled with pride because she
is the only
daughter of Chief
Kalejaiye. After five years of a fruitless
marriage,
Adekunbi was forced to
take in a second wife. Like it is
popularly said in
Yoruba land, “Ori omo
lo n pomo waye” (It’s the head of a
child that
brings another child) Even
though it was well believed that
Jaiyesinmi”s
wickedness caused her
barrenness but she never take heed.
Adekunbi
had no choice than to succumb
to the pressure from his family.
Iwalewa came into
the Adekunbi family and
just after a year, Iwalewa conceived
and gave birth
to a baby boy. Jaiye
prayed and performed so many
sacrifices to
Eledumare to answer her prayer
and just some few months after, Jaiye
conceived
and gave birth to a baby
boy. Adekunbi was happy that his first
wife had
finally conceived.
Although, Jaiye expected Adekunbi to
celebrate
the naming ceremony of her
child like that of Iwalewa but such
never
happened. This act of Adekunbi
fueled the already suppressed spirit of
anger and
wickedness in Jaiyesinmi.
In the eve of the naming ceremony of
