ARMY RELEASES 125 SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM MEMBERS: The Nigerian Army, on Saturday, released 125 persons arrested for allegedly having links with the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko Haram. This latest release followed an earlier release of 42 persons who were investigated and found to have no link with the fundamentalist group. The 42 persons were released on Thursday to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State. Handling over the new set of 125 persons to the governor, the spokesman for the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Col. Sani Usman, said 254 persons were intercepted while fleeing from the state after attack on Boko Haram strongholds in September. He said the arrest was made in Biu on September 23 and after proper investigation, 125 men were found to have no link with Boko Haram. He however said those who were considered to have links with the sect would be prosecuted. Shettima, who received the detainees, said the action would go a long way to build trust between the military and the people of the country. He noted that the released detainees looked well treated and described it as a plus to the military. He said, “It shows that the military are core professionals and know how to go about their duties.” |
The Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Al-Makura’s head driver has been assassinated on Saturday by some yet to be identified gunmen. According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ismaila Numan, who confirmed the killing, the driver, Abdullahi Mairuwa, was said to be travelling with his wife from Lafia to Keana Local Government Area on Saturday morning when he was attacked by the gunmen at Tudun Adabu village in Obi Local Government Area of the state. “The report we got from the scene indicated that Mairuwa’s killers shot him at close range in the presence of his wife, before escaping through a bush path,” Numan told News Agency of Nigeria. The PPRO said detectives had been deployed to investigate the killing. A family source, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the gunmen had told the victim’s wife not to panic and that they had come for her husband alone, whom they shot twice in the chest. The source added Mairuwa’s remains had been taken to Keana for burial according to Islamic rites. |
INEC, PDP have merged- Tinubu A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission have joined forces to ensure that the All Progressives Congress does not retain power in Lagos next year. Tinubu said that just as three parties merged to form the APC and become a more formidable opponent of the PDP, the INEC had also merged with the PDP to ensure that the PDP wins overwhelmingly in 2015. Tinubu spoke during a press conference to address the “shoddy” Permanent Voter Card distribution in Lagos on Saturday. The APC leader, who berated INEC over the manner it conducted the PVC distribution, said the commission had no excuse for failing to put its house in order. He said, “Just as we (APC) merged to form a formidable opposition party, they have merged with Jonathan to form a formidable rigging machine. “This exercise is a colossal failure. INEC has the responsibility to give us a date when the exercise would start which they did. They were the ones that picked the date. On the eve of the exercise, they announced they could only carry out the exercise in 11 Local Government Areas out of the 20 recognised by the Federal Government. “Rather than outright boycott, we endured the frustration and appealed to the public to participate. Our field report and personal experiences indicated that the exercise in those 11 LGAs failed and it is unacceptable. In some instances, you didn’t find INEC and then in some, they did not start on time.” Tinubu said if four months to the election, INEC had yet to put its house in order, it was safe to say that the commission could not conduct a free and fair election next year. The former governor said INEC must explain in full detail why it reduced the number of registered voters in Lagos from 6.2 million to 4.8 million. He argued that INEC’s excuse that it reduced the figure because there were many cases of double registration in 2011 was not tenable. He therefore questioned the commission’s right to “disenfranchise 1.4 million Lagosians without recourse to a court of law.” He said, “You cannot automatically, without a court of law, disqualify them, you can only suspend them and give them another opportunity to register. To me, this exercise has failed, it is not acceptable, and we consider it as a rigging exercise. INEC has colluded with the presidency and the opposing party to rig the election from the data to the end.” He stated that the APC would embark on protests across the state if things were not corrected and urged INEC to publish the names of those who were removed from the voter register. He told INEC to return to the drawing board and start the exercise afresh. Reacting to the APC chieftain’s allegation, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu, said there was no reason for the commission to merge with the ruling party. “INEC has not filed any paper with the country’s Corporate Affairs Commission to be merged with the PDP. It is not a political party,” Idowu said. He added, “I don’t understand what he meant by INEC merging with the PDP. The Permanent Voter Cards exercise is being conducted without any political colouration. And this exercise is not being conducted in PDP-controlled states alone.” |

Exactly me point. But I believe you and I with some other like minded people can change things. timpaker: |
If you are a regular literature section user, you'll understand what I mean. Between the period of November 2013-June 2014, you'll understand. The rate at which stories makes frontpage, even stories that are yet to start made fp then. But everything just changed all of a sudden. braine: |
This week's nomination panel conprises of; 1. Kingphilip 2. onemansquad 3. tecno4life 4. Jeanfortune 5. SMALLPENIS. Note: Five writers should be nominated. Meaning, a panel member nominates a writer. In case two panel members nominates a writer, the nomination shall be anulled and a writer shall be handpicked by Kingphilip. Nomination must be concluded before 11:59pm today, so voting can kick off. Let everything be in order so that this week can be a success. |
I have been a registered member of this platform for over a year now and I strongly believe something is wrong. Sometimes last week, Seun created a thread about employing a super-moderator who will be paid and will see to bringing interesting topics from all sections to the frontpage. My question is, are there no interesting topics in the literature section? When I first joned Nairaland, on a daily basis, at least a story or two will make the frontpage but now it is not so. For the past two months, no story has graced the fp and we still have moderators here? I doubt it. My ultimate question now is, are topics being moved at random by a robot or on level of credibility and views by a moderators? You'll see topics that will make you switch off your phone on the fp. Topics like, 'which one is better? Male or female teacher?' ....Please how does that concern me? 'Dangote cement is now N1,000.' Please does that concern me in anyway. Yes, it concern some people who wants to go into a building project or the other and yes, stories from the literature section deserves to grace the front page because there are some life changing stories in this section. I want to call on the pillars of the literature section to do something about this neglect. Lets stand up to the mods, let them know we deserve representation. Myndd44 Obinnau Seun..... Do something. Ishilove Larrysun Mazi omenuko Repogirl Frank317 Orikinla and others. Lets join hands and make sure we are well represented. There is a endorsement thread which am sure is not active because other section has nothing like this. Move topics because they meet the requirements to grace the fp and not on sentiments. |
