Former president Olusegun Obasanjo says nobody can claim the glory of President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in last year presidential election – Obasanjo denies making claim that he and few other persons brought President Buhari to power – He says the emergence of Buhari as President was an overwhelming decision of Nigerians as demonstrated at the polls Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has denied media reports claiming he and a few Nigerians brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power. According to him, no individual or group including himself can lay claim to bringing to power. The former president made this known in Jalingo, Taraba state capital, on Tuesday, August 23, when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Darius Ishaku.

Speaking to newsmen, Obasanjo said Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for Buhari, hence, no one could claim to have brought him to power, This Day reports. He said: “I was astounded by media reports quoting me to have said that I and a few other persons brought President Buhari to power to save Nigeria. I never said that because it is not true. Nigerians voted overwhelmingly for the president and we are all witnesses to that fact. No single person or group can claim that glory.” Obasanjo who is on a five-day working visit to inspect some of the key projects he initiated while in office particularly the Mambilla Hydro power project, said he spent most of his life trying to better the lot of humanity generally and Nigeria specifically.
Speaking on the on-going projects in the state, Obasanjo said: “Taraba state is a blessing to Nigeria. The potentials in the state can turn the fortunes of the country for good. The Mambila Hydro Power project alone has the capacity to generate more than half of our present power capacity in the country. “The livestock potential in the state spans all known livestock in the country including cattle rearing and poultry all in commercial quantities. The tea factory is a symbol of national greatness, while the tourism potentials can attract global tourists and earn the nation good foreign exchange “Since I have spent most of my life doing good for humanity and Nigeria, I am motivated to do even more now that I am approaching my evening.
I will therefore do everything to ensure that the potentials in Taraba generally and the Mambila Plateau specifically are optimally explored to make the nation great.” Recently, Obasanjo expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari will surmount the present challenges confronting the country. He said: “So far Buhari has not disappointed us. I trust him (Buhari), he will not fail Nigerians. I know he will overcome the challenges the country is currently facing.”

An alleged serial rapist school teacher has been arrested for molesting a primary school pupil in a staff room – He threatens to beat up victim, if she reports the act – Victim reports act to father A 33-year-old school teacher at Nasarawa Annex primary school, Faskari local government area, has been arrested by the Katsina state police command for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old pupil. According to The Punch, the teacher identified as Hamisu Galadima, is said to be a serial rapist.

He had reportedly lured the pupil into the staff room sometime in July and molested her. The alleged rapist was said to have threatened to beat the pupil up if she informed her parents or anybody in the school about the act. It was learnt that the victim later told her father, Hashimu Mohammed, who reported the incident at the Faskari police division which led to Galadima’s arrest.

He was subsequently arraigned before a Katsina magistrate’s court and was remanded in prison custody while the case was adjourned till September 26. A police source said the suspect was being investigated on five other rape cases. The source stated: “Presently, we are having five different first information report on Galadima on cases of rape apart from the one he appeared for at the magistrate’s court. “He has already been arraigned before three other magistrates in connection with rape cases.’’ Meanwhile, the Katsina state police command has detained an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for molesting an 18-year-old girl. It was said that the officer had carnal knowledge of the girl at her father’s house in Yan-daki village, in Kaita local government of the state.

Cyril, who was hoping to get sympathy from people, was seriously insulted by his friends via his Facebook handle. On Monday, August 22, the young man took to his Facebook handle to post pictures of him crying like a baby as he narrated how his girlfriend dumped him. Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra seems not tired of the struggle as he has spoken again – Through two of the organisation’s spokespersons, Kanu replied the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Niger Delta The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has again replied the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Niger Delta (MEND) insisting that unlike MEND, it is not ready to fall to the federal government.
IPOB, in a report by The Sun, said Nnamdi Kanu, their leader who had been in detention for many months now, is not ready to surrender to the government or renounce his dream whether in secret or in the open. It warned MEND to stop making deceitful, frivolous, malicious and baseless statements. In a statement by two spokespersons of IPOB, Emma Mmezu and Dr Clifford Iroanya, the group said MEND was working with the federal government to frustrate the struggle to gain Biafra.

“Together, we shall restore the nation of Biafra while MEND continues to operate as the official media and publicity arm of government. “By the way, what has renouncing of Biafra got to do with discussions between federal government and MEND. “Why is MEND interested in Biafra and Nnamdi Kanu’s release on the one hand and on the other hand assert that ‘Biafra Republic’ aims to annex the Niger Delta region as part of its territory? “Is MEND that poorly educated that they are unaware that the last head of state of Biafra before the war ended in January is from the same Niger-Delta?” IPOB had also earlier slammed MEND accusing the latter of lack of understanding of what freedom fighting means.
