Just In: FG imposes N1,000 annual fee on motorists for Proof of Ownership Certificate.

The FG has introduced an annual fee of N1,000 to be paid by vehicle owners for Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) verification.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola, made the announcement at a press conference in Ikeja on June 27th.

He said the certificate will help vehicle owners & the government to guarantee the integrity of all vehicles registered on the National Vehicle & Identification Scheme database & track car th£ft & recovery of stol£n vehicles.

He said the initiative was in accordance with the National Road Traffic Regulation 2012 as amended, No. 101, Vol. 99; Section 73- (1) which states that ‘There shall be Proof of Ownership Certificate for all registered Vehicles’.

According to him, “To this end, the FG has introduced the issuance of annual Proof of Ownership Certificate for all registered vehicles.

Students loan bill proposes two years imprisonment for defaulters.

President Bola Tinubu on Monday, June 12, signed the Students Loan Bill into law.

The new act provides an interest-free loan for indigent students in which beneficiaries will only pay back the exact amount they collect.

Only students studying in higher institutions within Nigeria are eligible for the loan and it’s for the payment of tuition fees alone.

The repayment of the loan will begin two years after the NYSC Scheme is completed and defaulters, or anyone aiding them shall be liable, upon conviction, to two years imprisonment, or a fine of N500,000 or both.

Meanwhile, a student can be disqualified if they or their parents have defaulted of any loan in the past, or they (student) have been convicted of dr¥g related offences or any felony involving dishonesty or fr@ud, or they if the student has been found guilty of exam malpractices by any school authority.
