Pets / In Spain, Dogs Have Toilets! by Engineer11985(m): 7:31pm On May 09, 2017
A small town in Spain has come up with a new way of dealing with dog waste – a dog public toilet. Located along a busy thoroughfare in El Vendrell, northeastern Spain, the stainless steel assembly consists of two sections placed side by side – a doggy potty and a doggy urinal.

The potty is a raised steel platform with a covered hole. Dog owners need to lift the lid for their pets to defecate, and later press a handle to flush. Jets of water are released, which carry the excrement through underground pipes into the sewer system. Right next to the potty is the urinal – also a raised platform with small holes over which dogs can squat. The public toilet is the brainchild of dog-lover Enric Girona, who has spent over ten years observing and photographing dogs. Through his work, he recognized the need for a toilet for dogs, so he set about creating one himself.

“Over the years, I’ve seen that if you train and raise dogs well, these animals can be just like humans,” he explained.

Girona invented several variants of the toilet, modifying each one as he learned more and more about dog behavior. The present version of the urinal, for example, doesn’t clean itself perfectly when flushing, because need to pick the odor so they are lured to the toilet. He also had the location in mind while designing these toilets, so they’d naturally blend into surroundings like parks and other public places. “You can’t have something that clashes with the setting,” he pointed out. “The design was done with the concept of being attractive.”

Travel / How To Get A Flat/ Room Mate During Your Study In Australia by Engineer11985(m): 6:13pm On Dec 28, 2016
Once you have been given admission and visa to study in Australia, the next thing that should occupy your mind should be your accommodation when you get there. Most students might decide to share accommodation in a bit to cut down on cost while others have the money to get one full accommodation to themselves. One thing you should bear in mind is that accommodation prices in Australia vary according to city. There are the expensive ones and the affordable ones as well.

Assuming you have just landed in Australia and you need a shared accommodation, how do you start looking for a flat mate or roommate? This could be a very difficult task for you in a country where you don’t know anybody.

Well, I have decided to make it a lot easy for you by preparing this post. Before I show you how to get a flat mate in Australia, let’s briefly look at the cost of accommodation and other living expenses in Australia for students.

Cost of living in Australia

The cost of living in Australia is estimated at $1000 to $1500 per month, which covers the cost of accommodation, food, books, transportation, recreation, etc. Here’s the breakdown:

Hostels and guesthouses – $65.3 to $108.83 per week

Shared rental – $61 to $155 per week

On Campus – $65 to $203 per week

Home stay – $170 to $235 per week

Rental – $119 to $319 per week

Groceries and eating out – $58 to $203 per week

Gas and Electricity – $25 to $101 per week

Phone and Internet – $14 to $18 per week

Public transport – $10 to $40 per week

Entertainment – $58 to $108 per week

Please note that all these figures are in United States Dollars.

So from this breakdown you will agree with me that the cost of accommodation in Australia is high, hence the need to look for a shared accommodation. But the question is, how do you get a flat mate to share accommodation with, when you are a Jonny- Just- Come (JJC) in Australia?

How to find a flat mate during your study in Australia

Getting a flat mate to share an accommodation with is very easy now. All you need do is visit; www.flatmate.com.au and you will see all the accommodation listings with the owners profile, picture and prices. You can also list your accommodation there if you are looking for someone to live with.

The leader also prohibited the wearing of jeans, having ponytails and some other ‘western’ fashion in a latest operation to crackdown western fashion ahead of its annual workers conference. The length of skirts, the shape of shoes, Tshirts and hairstyles are also expected to follow a stipulated pattern.

A Japanese journalist named Ishimaru Jiro, working with citizen reporters inside North Korea said that an ever-increasing number of North Koreans are fanatical with Western culture. The crackdown will continue until the end of the upcoming gathering (the 7th Congress).’

Travel / How To Study Free In Germany by Engineer11985(m): 9:43pm On Apr 17, 2016
Universities in Germany now are operating tuition free. And as a student, you are only concerned about your living expenses which is estimated at 600 euros per month. Yes, this amount will cover the cost of accommodation, feeding, books, travels etc for one month. Today, I’m going to talk about studying in Germany, cost of living, admission procedure, visa requirement and how to apply. I will also post a list of twenty top universities in Germany so you can contact them directly and get more information.

Germany has over a 300 universities offering courses in the fields of Engineering, medicine, law, humanities, to mention but a few. The language of instruction is German and English. Infact, almost all undergraduate programs are taught in German language and very few are available in English language. Postgraduate courses are all taught in English language. At this point, you may like to know the requirements to study in Germany at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Undergraduate study requirement

To study at the undergraduate level, one will be expected to posses the following:

Ø O’level result and transcripts showing grades
Ø An international passport which is still valid
Ø A birth certificate
Ø A medical certificate showing the health condition of the applicant

Postgraduate study requirement
To study at the postgraduate level, one will be expected to posses the following:

Ø A degree result and transcript showing all the courses offered by the students with grades
Ø A valid International passport
Ø A birth certificate
Ø A medical certificate showing the health condition of the applicant
Ø Two reference letters
Ø A research work and or a statement of purpose

Once you have all these documents ready, the next step is to search for universities offering your program. The search engine can be very useful at this stage as you can use it to search for universities in Germany their programs and get information on how to apply. When you have found the university of your choice, simply go through their website and request for application materials if you cannot apply online. You could do this by either calling or sending the admission unit mails.

Application procedure

German universities accept paper based and online application. For the paper application, you will need to photocopy and notarize all your documents and send them together with the application form you downloaded to the university admission unit. The online application involves creating an account on the university website, filling in your information and submitting. Universities generally prefer the online application as it is the easiest way to apply and receive an offer.

Visa processing

After you have sent your application, the school will send you an invitation letter. This is the letter you need to apply for a student visa. Go to any German embassy in your home country with this letter together with other documents like health certificate, results, international passport, passport photographs etc. You will be told when to come for the interview.

Note that you will be expected to open a German blocked account of 8000 euros before you get your visa. But never worry as you will be guided on how to go about it there in the embassy.

Health / 10 Important Tips On How To Burn Belly Fat by Engineer11985(m): 7:57pm On Apr 12, 2016
Unwanted fat around the waist can pose a very big problem to most persons especially women. Women with belly fat find it quite tasking to put on that gown or top they have been yearning to because apart from the fact that they appear to look unappealing in it, they also have a low self-esteem when they are among other women that appear to be fit. Well, not to worry again! There are permanent solutions to getting rid of that belly fat. Listed below are important tips to help you get back in shape and boost your self-confidence.

1. Eat more protein

Adding protein to your diet daily is perhaps the most effective step to reducing belly fat. Studies over time have proven that people who eat more protein have less belly fat. The best protein sources include unprocessed meat, eggs, seafood, poultry, dietary products and fish. So, make efforts to increase your daily intake of unprocessed protein in your diet. Also it helps to cook your foods in coconut oil. Studies have also shown that about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil daily reduces belly fat. Including protein in your diet also boost metabolism by 80-100 calories per day.

2. Eat foods rich in viscous fiber

Research shows that intake of soluble dietary fiber reduces belly fat. This means that consuming 10g of soluble fiber daily leads to 3.7% reduction in the amount of fat in the abdominal cavity. Another review confirmed that eating 14g of fiber daily over a period of 4 months decreases calorie intake and general weight loss by 2kg. Eating foods like fruits and vegetables, legumes, oats and cereals provide rich source of fiber.

3. Aerobic Exercises

Aerobic exercises like running, brisk walking, swimming, jumping etc has proven to reduce belly fat to a considerable amount. Exercises also reduce blood sugar levels, inflammation and other abnormalities in metabolism. It is important to note that doing crunches or sit-ups daily wouldn’t burn belly fat because studies have shown that it is impossible to lose fat in only one section of the body.

4. Drink Water Regularly

Each time you drink water, your belly tends to protrude out, so this may contradict the idea of burning belly fat. The fact is that staying properly hydrated is essential to the fat-burning process. Your body require substantial intake of water to breakdown fat cells and wash away harmful toxins that are released during the metabolic process.

5. Enough Sleep

Lack of quality sleep hinders nervous function, hormonal production and metabolism. You are likely to be more stressed, exercise less and work slower if your nervous system can’t function at full capacity. Ideally speaking, improper rest can hinder the production of key hormones that are responsible for fat cell metabolism. Your brain and body will function effectively when you get about 8hours of sleep in 5cycles.

Romance / How To Bring Out The Best In Your Relationship by Engineer11985(m): 7:47pm On Apr 12, 2016
A good relationship can be liken to a newborn baby that needs to be treasured, pampered, nurtured and fed with essential vitamins in order for it to develop and grow up strong, healthy and able to stand the test of time. It is a known fact that whatever you focus your attention on will eventually grow. Most people focus on the problems instead of placing their focus on fixing the problems and preferring solutions. Therapist Elliot E. Connie believes couples should place their focus on strengths, solutions and goals rather than on the problem. Listed below are principles to help bring out the best in you.

For the context of this article, I shall be using they or their in place of his/her.

1. Acceptance

Learn to accept your partner the way they are, this would go a long way in making them better persons. Accepting your partner means you believe in their good objective or intention. It means they can be the best at whatever they choose to do. You need to accept them first, and then encourage them to become better. Accepting your partner the way they are doesn’t necessarily mean having to tolerate their excesses.

2. Introduce Complain Session

When there are issues between couples, they tend to resort to that snobbish “silent treatment” attitude that only manages to makes the issues between them worse. Conversely, if there was to be a complaint session where couples sit together and voice out their grievances, the reasons behind their crisis would be quickly resolved and peace would be restored. During the complaint session, the man should be gentlemanly enough to allow the woman go first, he shouldn’t interrupt her rather he should encourage her to air out all the areas she feels he went wrong. The man should go next, after which the issues should be resolved amicably with consensual understanding on the part of both parties.

3. Listen and Understand

Unnecessary crisis in home may arise if you are not really listening to your partner whenever they try to make a point. Listen carefully and ask questions on areas you don’t understand, don’t jump into hasty conclusions and refrain from being overly judgmental because a closer look into the issue between the two of may reveal a sheer case of misconception. Unwanted quarrels can be averted if you listen and understand you partner.

4. Acknowledge your partner’s feelings and show appreciation

As much as you may feel your partner originated the crisis between the two of you, don’t be too happy to be in the clear; No human is above mistakes. Strive to know why your partner acted the way they did. Acknowledge their feelings in the same vain you would have loved them to acknowledge yours if you were or not to be at fault. You don’t necessarily have to agree with your partner to acknowledge how they feel. Try to look at the issues between the two of you from your partner’s point of view. Your partner deserves support and understanding in the same way you would equally crave to be understood in the face of misunderstandings.

5. Have a dating mindset even after marriage

During dating period, you must have made extra efforts to be nice to your partner. You must have put in your very best to nurture the relationship until it grew to the next stage. You ought to still continue with that same mentality when married, nothing should change. It isn’t just about just about having dinner every Friday; it is way more than that. For the men, note that women are moved by those little chivalrous gestures like opening the car door for her, looking into her eyes intimately and saying, sweetheart I love you. Those may seem insignificant, but trust me, it works like magic and it also helps to keep your relationship healthy.

Health / 5 Major Signs And Symptoms Of Breast Cancer by Engineer11985(m): 10:32pm On Apr 07, 2016
5 Major Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the world affecting mostly women over 65 but not unheard of in younger women. Mammograms have recorded great success in the timely detection of breast cancer before they develop into a more deadly stage. However, screening mammograms do not detect every kind of breast cancer, in this case women would have to smart in detecting the slightest inconveniences they might notice in their breasts and seek proper medical measures in containing it before it blows out of proportion. Listed below are some of the 5 major signs and symptoms of breast cancer…

1. New lump or mass in the breast(s)

This is the most common symptom of breast cancer. It is often a painless hard mass with irregular edges. Notwithstanding, there are cases where the lump are soft, tender and round associated with excruciating pains. Therefore, it is important to have all lumps in the breast whether hard or soft checked to be certain it isn’t cancerous.

2. Slight change in appearance of breast other than when menstruating or ovulating

It isn’t in all cases that a lump or mass can point to cancerous growth, you should observe your breasts at all time to notice any slight change from the original appearance when menstruating or ovulating. Kylie Amstrong from Melbourne in Australia shared that she and her GP felt no lump in her breast, but because she was sensitive to note the appearance of her breasts, they were able to detect very feint dimples on the underside of her breasts which turned out to be cancerous.

3. Pain in the chest or breast

Any form of discomfort in the breast or chest area isn’t a pleasant sign. It could be electric sensation that goes from the left breast to the right nipple or a mild pain that often comes and goes. No matter how mild it may feel, be it an ache, twinge, throb or a sharp stab, it shouldn’t be treated taken for granted.

4. Itchy feeling in the breast

This occurs when growing cancer cells obstruct the flow of blood and lymph vessels that feed the skin thereby causing fluids to build up in and under the skin; this in turn causes the skin to have a itchy sensation. This symptom is related with inflammatory breast cancer. So, if you often feel this uncontrollable urge to sneak your hands in there and scratch, visit the doctor promptly. Don’t settle for creams and rash medication until a thorough examination has been done to rule out the possibility of any cancerous growth.

5. Changes in the breast

Any form of changes in the size, texture, contour and temperature of the breast depicts underlying cancer-related problem. A reddish pitted appearance of the breasts resembling the skin of an orange could indicate advanced cancerous growth.

Conclusion

Breast cancer-examination ought to be part of a woman’s monthly heath care routine. Women above 40 should have an annual mammogram and constant physical examination by a doctor. Women in their 20s and 30s should have a Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) as part of their regular health checkup. For women who wish to do a Breast Self Exam (BSE), the technique should be reviewed with the health-care provider. The objective is to feel comfortable with the way the breasts feels and look so that any slight changes could be detected on time.

Don’t hesitate to call your doctor if you have swollen lymph glands in your armpits or if you notice any abnormal lump or persistent pain in your breasts. At times these symptoms may be something other than cancer, but remember, early detection save lives.
