Our new electric buses will not only reduce carbon emissions but will also increase efficiency. This means that Lagosians can say goodbye to high fuel costs and hello to cost-efficient transportation. We shall be running a pilot scheme over the next few months to gather sufficient data required to analyse the operational efficiencies relative to the current BRT buses to further improve our public transport service.

Lagos Couple Plans 'Self-kidnap', Demands N5m Ransom- Police

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested a couple (name withheld) over alleged self-kidnap for N5 million ransom.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday.

Hundeyin said that the husband, a 53-year-old technician and wife, 48-year-old masseuse and bone setter, were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday respectively after a family member of the man reported the purported kidnap.

He said the couple, who admitted to the crime, claimed they planned the self-kidnap with a view to raising N3 million to buy back their house in the Badagry area of Lagos.

“The man brought the idea and sold it to his wife. He did not deny it before the police. He said he did it through a text message for a purpose. He said he did it because he wanted to buy back his house with N3 million.

"The man claimed he decided to organise a self-kidnap because he has financially capable brothers and sisters abroad.

“He claimed that if they hear of his kidnap with his wife, they would negotiate with the kidnappers and pay the money,” the spokesperson said.

Hundeyin noted that the couple was still living in their house in Badagry when they sent out text messages of their kidnap to their relations, stressing that when police visited the house on Tuesday, they met the wife and three children.

Gunmen have reportedly abducted 29 villagers in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
 
The victims were abducted in the middle of Tuesday night, April 25,  from Yewuti village; the hometown of the immediate past vice chairman of Kwali Area Council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti.

 
According to Daily Trust, two housewives, Mrs Zainab Umar and Mrs Aisha Zubairu, escaped from their abductors while being led into the bush.

 
The report added that those kidnapped include Idris Mohammed, Abdullahi Zubairu, Sani S. Magani, Peter Modu, Ibrahim Mamman, Yellow Abdulrasheed, Musa Suleiman, Simbiya Ishaku, Sumaiya Ibrahim, Muktari Yunusa and Mohammed Yeluwa and Rahmat Shagari.
 
Others are Sumaiya Abubakar Yelwa, Mohammed Yelwa, Maimuna Muhammad, Hussaini Ya Nda Agyana, Hamza Ibrahim, Lantana Yunusa, Nabila Agyana, Rufai Salihu, Nafisa Aminu, Kasimu Adamu, Abako Adamu, Abdulyakin Aliyu, Lukman Aliyu, Rahina Audu, Abdulrazak Usman, Sadiya Usman, Darius Samuel and Japheth Osu.

 
It was gathered that the gunmen raided eight houses and whisked away the residents into the bush.

 
The vice chairman of the council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, confirmed the incident, claiming that his younger brother, Idris; two of his elder brothers’ wives and a child were among the victims.

Two of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls have escaped after spending nine years in Boko Haram captivity. 

Sources told Daily Trust that the girls escaped from Sambisa forest, on Sunday, April 23, 2023, as a result of intense military operations. 

A security source said the escapees were identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus. 

“One is from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village,” the source said. 

This has reduced the number of Chibok schoolgirls in captivity from 98 to 96.

The terrorists had on April 14, 2014, abducted 276 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok. 

Earlier, the head of the Intelligence Unit of the Joint Military Task Force, Operation Hadinkai, Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, gave the number of the remaining Chibok girls in captivity as 98.

“Out of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018. Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total of 178 girls out of captivity and 98 remaining in Boko Haram captivity.” he stated.

President of Nigeria who is not making conscientious efforts to unite the ethnic groups in Nigeria will fail woefully.

The former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has said that Nigeria’s President-elect, Ahmed Tinubu, has started serving Ndigbo “a piece of bread soaked in water”.

Back in January, Tinubu was at Michael Okpara Square for a presidential campaign rally.

During the rally, he urged the southeasterners to work for his victory and that of the party.

According to Tinubu, “… nobody will give you any credit, you are working hard, you’re sweating now.

“We want you to sweat well now for this party until you deliver victory.

“Until Bola Tinubu becomes the President of Nigeria, we will not give you but a soaked sliced bread.”

Speaking on Monday in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, Nwodo said Tinubu was already serving the Igbo the promised “soaked bread”.

He said it in reaction to the perceived exclusion of Igbo in Tinubu’s 14-man inauguration committee.

Nwodo, an ex-governor of Enugu State, said that any President of Nigeria who is not making conscientious efforts to unite the ethnic groups in Nigeria will fail woefully.

He equally bemoaned the repeated attacks on Igbo in Lagos State, who he said were being allegedly punished for voting their conscience during the general elections.

With the South-west and North-east already occupying the positions for the president and vice president-elect, the North-west, is seeking compensation in the new dispensation for delivering the highest votes to Tinubu.However, the emergence of a Senate President from the North-west would create a Muslim Senate President, which would be unacceptable to the South-east and the South-south, given the fact that both the president-elect and the vice president-elect are Muslims.

The position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is also in contention. Tinubu is expected to rally the leaders of his party and the members-elect of the two chambers of the National Assembly to resolve these issues by zoning the positions of the principal officers of the parliament to balance regional and religious interests.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested an Inspector identified as Ahmed Twumasi over alleged m¥rder of his girlfriend, Victoria Daapa, popularly known as Maa Adwoa. 
 
Twumasi, who is married with children, allegedly shot the 27-year-old mother of one at close range on Thursday 20th April 2023, at Adum in front of Dufie Towers in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
 
The woman was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she was pronounced d€ad on arrival. 
 
The police, in a press release on Sunday evening, April 23, 2023, stated that the suspect was arrested at his hideout at Sekyere near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region. 
 
"The Police have this evening arrested a Police officer, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who is alleged to have shot and k!lled a female adult, who was believed to be his girlfriend,” the statement read. 
“The shooting incident occurred in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, on Thursday, 20th April 2023. The suspect, who has been on the run since the incident, was arrested at Sekyere, near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region as a result of a special Police operation, which was launched following the shooting incident. The suspect is currently in Police custody and will be put before court to face justice.”  

 
According to reports, the police officer suspected Maa Adwoa of cheating on him, and although she denied the allegations, he became increasingly angry.
 
An eyewitness reported that the officer first kissed Maa Adwoa before shooting her to d€ath. 
 

“After the first two shots, she was pleading with the guy to stop and he added three more shots before jumping into a rickshaw to run away. Because he was holding a gun, we could not attempt to arrest him," the eyewitness narrated. 

 
Maa Adwoa’s uncle, who was also present at the scene, stated that the police officer first shot her in the forehead and then multiple times in the stomach and other parts of her body until she fell and d!ed.

Mavin Records founder, Michael Collins Ajereh also known as Don Jazzy has said he regrets his altercation with Hip Hop star, Olamide Adedeji at the 2015 Headies Award.

He stated during an episode of BBNaija’s Doyin Corner, that the moment it happened he felt bad instantly while stepping down from the stage.

Don Jazzy said he, however, tendered apology for the way he acted to Olamide and the Headies Award organisers.

Accoridng to the music executive, that was one of the acts he engaged in that he feels disappointed a lot of people that look up to him as a role model.

Police arrested Man who hacks his girlfriend to death in kaduna,for planning to dumb him after spending on her

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly murd£r£d his girlfriend. 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Muhammad Jalige, who confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, April 21, 2023, said the suspect was rescued as he was about being lynched by a mob.

Jalige said on April 14 that at about 21:30hrs, the Command received a distress call that there was a mob action at NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna metropolis where an unruly crowd were about to lynch a man.

Operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene.

“On getting there they met the suspect lying unconscious and surrounded by a crowd,” he said. 

According to Jalige, information gathered revealed that the suspect attacked his girlfriend of Old Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road, Kaduna with a machete and inflicted multiple degrees of injury on her face, arms and hands.

He explained that during the attack the man severed her left hand completely, alleging that he had spent a lot of resources on her and she wanted to dump him for another man. 

The victim was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, for treatment where a doctor on duty confirmed she was d£ad.

“The corpse of the lady has been deposited at the same hospital, for an autopsy,” Jalige said. 

The PPRO said investigation was ongoing.

About 467 ad hoc staff of the National Population Commission in Bauchi State have taken to the streets to protest their alleged unpaid allowances.

The News Agency of Nigeria  reports that the protest was carried out on Wunti Street in the Bauchi metropolis on Tuesday.

The ad hoc staff workers carried placards with inscriptions such as “No pay, no work,” and “We demand our allowances from NPC office.”

The spokesman for the ad hoc staff, Abbas Adamu, while addressing the state Director of the NPC and staff in Bauchi, said, “We have done our job but yet to receive our due allowances.

“On behalf of the ad hoc NPC 2023 census staff who participated as special workforce and facilitators for the upcoming 2023 census exercise,  we are here to inform the commission that we, in the attached list, have not received our training allowances which were conducted at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi  from January 23 to February 5 for special workforce and facilitators respectively,” he said.

NAN recalls that the protesting ad hoc staff were hired by the NPC to provide support for the 2023 census exercise in the state.

Responding, the state Director, NPC, Hudu Baballe, said, “I have listened to all your grievances and complaints and they are all noted. I have gotten the letter which would be forwarded to the commissioner and the national headquarters in Abuja.”

Meanwhile, the commission has warned enumerators and supervisors against counting a child born after a household has been enumerated to avoid an incredible census.

This is contained in Chapter Eight of the NPC 2023 Census Training Curriculum obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday.

The NPC noted even if the birth occurred within the census enumeration period, the child must not be enumerated.

“Children born up to the time the enumerator comes to the household are to be enumerated, but children born after the enumerator has completed the household, even if the birth occurred within the census enumeration period, should not be enumerated,” the commission said.

The document added that,”Similarly, persons who died within census enumeration period, but before the enumerator come to the household are not to be included, and any death that occurred after the enumerator has completed the household is not to be erased even if it occurred within the census enumeration period but after the visit of the enumerator.”

The NPC stressed that “only persons physically present at the time of enumeration shall be eligible to be enumerated.”

Nigerian afrobeat singer, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, disclosed that when he was 17 years old, he earned his first million naira and gave the entire amount to his mum.

The singer shared this while speaking in a recent interview with Z100 New York.

According to him, his mother needed the money more and it was not cool for him to be 17 and driving around in a car when his mother did not have a car of her own.

He said;

“The person who I knew needed it more was my mum. So, I handed everything I made to her. I know it was cool to drive around the city as a 17-year-old in a cool whip. But I can’t drive a cool whip when my mum didn’t have a car or my mum has to borrow my keys. You know, I had to put her on first,” he said.

“Passing all of that to her, whatever investment she makes… I made my first million [naira] at 17 but I made more than a million. But it’s cool to be in that stage to be able to provide for your family.”

The Calm Down crooner went on to say that his ability to support his family and create possibilities for others is his greatest accomplishment.

“Someone created an opportunity for me to bless the world this much. So, I can’t imagine how much the people I helped are going to bless the world. You know, I go hard not just for myself. I go hard for them. As doors open for me, I wanna open doors for them,” he added.

Following the sad demise of actor, Yul Edochie’s first son, Kambilichuckwu,
a number of netizens stormed the page of May’s US-based sister, Blessing Nwele, with words of advice.

News had made the rounds on March 30, 2023, that the actor’s 16-year-old son with first wife, May, died after he became unconscious while playing football in school.

May’s co-wife, Judy was spared no words as many social media users accused her of being behind the death of Kambili.

Days after the news went viral, Nigerians bombarded May’s elder sister, Blessing’s comment section @Blessn07, with advice on taking May and the remaining kids, Danielle, Karl and Victory, out of Yul Edochie’s home to avoid future attacks.

Controversial clergyman, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, aka Prophet Odumeje has said that he has completed his work on earth and will d!e soon.

founder of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry said this during service in the church where he told his congregation that it was time for him to go.

According to the publication, Odumeje fondly called Indaboski, said he had a heart-to-heart talk with his first son, David, and informed him that his last days in the world are near. He told the boy to prepare to be the man of the house who will take care of his siblings and mother when he (Odumeje) is gone.

“I have called my little son, King David, and I told him that very soon, I, your father will leave. You must take care of your brothers and your mother. I came to this world for a purpose, and that purpose has been fulfilled. I have finished my earthly ministry, and I will leave soon,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Uba Sani, as the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.
 
The INEC Collation Officer, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, who announced the result said Sani polled 730,002 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isah Ashiru Kudan of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 719,196 votes.

 
The Labour Party candidate, Jonathan Asake, came a distant third after polling 58,283 while the New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, scored 21,405 votes.
 
Rejected votes stood at 19,114. 
 
The PDP candidate won in 13 LGAs of the state while Sani, the incumbent Senator representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial District of the state, won 10 LGAs.

Why History Matters…

Wuraola Adepeju Esan was a pioneering Nigerian women’s rights activist, educator, and nationalist. In 1960, she became the first woman member of the Nigerian Senate in the First Republic after she was appointed by the Western Region under Awolowo’s Action Group party.

Esan was born in March 1909 in Calabar to the Ojo-badan family of Ibadan. Her father, Thomas Ojo-Ade, was a veteran soldier of World War I and fifth in the line of succession to the Ibadan throne. Her mother, Ajike Ojo Aina, popularly called Iya Gbogbo (mother of all), was a self-made businesswoman. As at the start of the twentieth century, the British colonial administration did not encourage the education of girls in Nigeria but Esan’s parents recognized the importance of the acquisition of Western education for their female children.

As such, between 1921 and 1923, Esan was educated at Sacred Heart Covenant School in Ibadan for her primary education. In 1927, she graduated from Idi-Aba Baptist Girls School, Abeokuta and later went to pursue her teacher training education at the United Missionary College (UMC), Molete, Ibadan. In 1935, she began teaching at Methodist Girls’ High School (MGHS) in Lagos—a school prestigiously known for the secondary education of girls in Nigeria.

While in Lagos, Esan was deeply inspired by the Lagos Women’s League which gave active support for the education of girls. Her political activism gained its momentum when she and some other women played active roles in the Nigerian Youth Movement and the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroons—which were very active in the politics of Lagos at the time. On 27 April 1938, she got married to Victor Owolabi Esan, a civil servant at the Ibadan City Council. After her marriage, she resigned from MGHS and moved to Ibadan.

In the 1950s, Esan entered partisan politics and was a member of the women’s wing of Awolowo’s Action Group (AG) where she worked closely with another women’s rights activist, Tanimowo Ogunlesi. Though the women in the party were important instruments to garner votes, few were accorded official power and party-wide responsibility. In 1954, she took a chieftaincy title and in 1958, she was elected to the Ibadan Urban District Council.

In 1960, Esan became the first woman member of the Nigerian Senate in the First Republic after she was appointed by the Western Region under the AG party. In 1975, she was awarded the highest chieftaincy title open to women in Ibadan, the Iyalode of Ibadan. Esan was also a founding member of the National Council of Women Societies and was also deeply involved in community political activities.

Throughout her life, she campaigned for women and girls’ education. In the 1940s, she established the Ibadan People’s Girls Grammar School in Molete, Ibadan. According to researcher, Ezekiel Adeoti, Esan’s ‘initiatives and sacrifices were aimed at promoting the education of girls, thus liberating the womenfolk from ignorance and societal discrimination… She impacted positively on the growth and development of vocational, technical and commercial education in Nigeria.’

Esan died on 01 January 1985 aged 75.

Family buries south African pastor after keeping his body in mortuary since 2021 awaiting his resurrection.

A South African pastor, Siva Moodley, has been buried 579 days after he d!ed. 

Moodley, 53, the founder of The Miracle Centre in the north of Johannesburg, d!ed on August 15, 2021, after falling ill.

The late pastor used to preach that “no Christian should d!e from sickness." 

The funeral was held in Gauteng on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

According to IOL, Moodley’s body had been kept at a Johannesburg mortuary since his d£ath because his family was hoping that he would resurrect.

IOL reported that after his death, family and members of the church used to visit the funeral home to pray for his resurrection.

At the time, funeral home manager Martin du Toit lodged an application with the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court to grant him permission to have Moodley buried or cremated. However, the matter had not been set down as yet for a hearing.

Since Moodley's d£ath, services at the church have been going on as normal and are conducted by his wife, Jessie, son, David, and daughter Kathryn Jade. The services are also live streamed on social media.

The church has allegedly not openly acknowledged his death on social media or informed the congregation of his whereabouts. His social media accounts, notably Facebook and Twitter, are operational and messages are posted every day as if they are from him.

Staff from Miracle Centre declined to speak to the media. They said they had a policy in place which barred them from doing so.

The musician, who is heartbroken by her death, revealed that she died on Thursday and described it as the darkest day of his life.


Nigerian Afro-pop musician, Seyi Vibez, has been thrown into mourning after losing his mother to the cold hands of death.

The ‘billionaire baby’ singer took to his Instagram page to announce the sad news of his mother’s passing on Thursday, March 16.


He posted a black photo and wrote, “Today the Darkest day of my life…March 16. I lost my ancestor ! Love you till I go six feet mum. RIP”

Gunmen suspected to be ass@ssins have k!lled a chief identified as Gbenga Okotore, in Okutu-Ope community, Ilesa, in Osun state.
 
It was gathered that the attackers shot Okotore at a close range. 
 
According to the Nigerian Tribune, the armed men reportedly shot sporadically into the air before k!lling their target.

 
A resident of the area who gave his name as Adekunle Adegbola, said the entire community has been thrown into mourning, adding that the deceased might have been trailed to the spot where he was k!lled. 

 
He said they heard the sound of gunshots when the incident happened but could not move closer to the place for the fear of being killed too. 
 
The spokesperson of the command, SP Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, March 16, 2023, said that the perpetrators of the act would be apprehended.

Enugu police arrests two brothers for allegedly m¥rdering their Uncle's security guard and his 12-year-old son

The police in Enugu state have arrested two brothers namely Chinedu Nnaona aged 25 and Maduabuchi Nnaona aged 21, both of Onuakpaka, Ndiagu-Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area. A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, says their arrest is sequel to an earlier report received at Nkanu West Police Division on March 12 at about 11.30am alleging the m¥rder of one Christian Ngene (male and adult), who is the security guard and caretaker of the hometown residence of the suspects’ uncle (name withheld) at the mentioned address, and his 12 years old son, Promise Ngene.

Ndukwe said upon receipt of the report, police Operatives of the Division swiftly moved to the scene, found and evacuated the lifeless bodies of the victims to the hospital, where they were confirmed d€ad by doctors and their remains deposited in the mortuary for preservation and a¥topsy. Two (2) kn!ves, two (2) hand gloves, and broken pieces of a concrete baluster, used by the suspects to perfect the act, were recovered at the scene.

‘’Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects confessed to the crime, stating that they conspired and left Port-Harcourt, Rivers State where they reside with their parents, and went to the mentioned home address, with the sole aim of stealing and selling their uncle's Mitsubishi Grandis car, parked in his said hometown compound. To perfect their plan, they procured the knives, proceeded to the building in the early morning hours of 12/03/2023, and scaled the fence to gain access into the compound. And to further gain access into the main building to get the car's key, they used the baluster to attack the security guard in order to get the building's keys from him. He resisted, but they overpowered and used the knives to severally stab him to d€ath.'

They went ahead to stab and m¥rder his said son, who was sleeping, to avoid their being exposed by him. They then gained access and ransacked the entire building in search of the car key, but were unsuccessful.
