Breaking News: Peter Obi sews aimless twitter thread, laments PZ record-making losses, blames President Tinubu for multidimensional poverty and encourages the government to invest in education to arrest decline in human capital development.

We hope that one day, Peter Obi would see something positive to say about Nigeria.
You just want to derail this thread. Obi mata no dey taya una? Like leader, like followers, always distracting people from core national issues unnecessarily

Career / Re: I Lost My Dad And Shoe Making Found Me - Lady Cobbler (Video) by Eriokanmi: 10:58am On Aug 31
The earlier our ladies tow this path, the better. The earlier they stop depending on men who would only use them and dump them, the better. In America, women drive trucks and fend for the family. I had travelled on a greyhound bus before, from NC to NY Washington Bridge Station on over half a day trip and a pretty white woman drove all through, with a few stops on the way.

Once every woman stands on their own, men will give them the respect they deserve and treat them with some dignity. What a man can do, a woman can do even better. We've got proofs.

Since Obi reacted to that Lagospedia saga, he should do same for this, else he is just a bloody hypocrite\

Thank God for 2023 General Election. It opened our eyes to alot
Shut it.. Which yeye eyes did 2023 election open? No tribal bigots can be best described by your comment. Must everybody vote tinubu? Can you define democracy? You put it on your heads so much that some of us who refused to join you vote the evil party were called ibos and omo ales. Tinubu knows his children. You went as far as calling obasanjo and Chief bode George ibo, even cursing Pa Adebanjo, some one whom many of you should be praying to God to attain his age.

How you forgot our girl who was slashed in the face cos she looked like an Igbo girl last year at the poll has further exposed your likes. Tribalism game isn't only played by a particular tribe. Ibos too are guilty of this menace. You guys should just stop all the name calling. You're all kettle calling pot black. Stop tribalism now or Nigeria will remain backward. You that voted along the tribal line, how far? Is your life better now that it was last year? Mtcheew

Definitely. They hate and envy us for nothing. Unfortunately, this generation didn't know the role Nigeria played for the freedom they're all enjoying today. They should ask Mbeki and his family who ran to Nigeria to seek asylum and housed by obasanjo at surulere during the wild apartheid era.
Car Talk / Re: See The Price Of Brand New Peugeot Saloon Car In 1984 and Its Worth Today by Eriokanmi: 3:09pm On Aug 26
nairalanda1:

The thing is, in 1977, our economy was 'strong' because high oil prices then meant that the value of the naira was strong enough to support import based car assembly plants. That was the era of CKD parts being brought into the country, and assembled in Nigeria.

The problem was, the good times could not last. By 1981, the oil prices were tottering, by 1983, oil prices were crashing severely. Shagari was talking about austerity back then. BY 1983, that same car would have been costing over 10000 naira.

Nigeria's problem has been, resource dependency. Not developing an economy based on manufacturing...ie using avialable raw materials to make exportable industrial goods as seen in many developed countries...is why NIgeria keeps on having boom and bust economy. Boom when the prices of whatever resource we sell are high (or when we have a guaranteed market) , bust when prices fall. We had a good agric boom in the 1960's, and when that died down, we had the oil boom till 1982, then we went into economic doldrums until oil rose again in 2008 , and again in 2010-14...and now we are back again.

Every African country has the same issue, which is why most of them look like Nigeria, despite not having been run by Nigerian leaders. Except those whose populations are very small, or countries like South Africa and North Africa that have some industrial export potential.

i always say that Nigeria has never had a good leader. Because at the end we needed a leader that would have done the appropriate reforms...ie more free market, less mass welfarism, better tax coverage, and a development policy favoring manufacutirng of exprtable stuff...rather than just selling oil, and hoping for the best (as seen in this government, for example).

But such projects mean more hard times.
Are you aware same people of the 70s and their relations still dominate our political space? Check the list yourself. One of them just finished his 2 terms as president and you're one of the voices behind his failed party.

Politics / Re: Paul Ibe To Bode George: Your Tribalism, A Disservice To The Military by Eriokanmi: 8:29pm On Aug 25
DeLaRue:
I listened to Chief Bode's George's interview from beginning to end, there was not a single tribe-related view there.

He said after Buhari's 8 years, PDP should have followed their party constitution by zoning their presidential candidacy to the South.

He also said allowing another Northerner to lead Nigeria immediately after Mr Buhari would have created a lot of problems in the country. On this basis, he said he didn't think Mr Atiku as president would have been good for the country.

What's tribalistic here.

The man was just expressing his personal political opinion.

Chief George has also criticised the current President many times. I don't recall Mr Atiku criticising Mr Buhari at any time during the latter's 8 years.

Don't mind atiku, a useless statesman. Had he allowed the presidency to be zoned to the south, by now the apc would have been a forgotten party. Wike may be fighting a personal fight. Had the ticket been zoned to the south and obi had the day, he would have supported obi. All he was interested in was the emergence of a southern presidency, regardless of whoever emerged , though he had interest too.

How can a Northerner leave and another Northerner is replacing him? Is either atiku didn't truly love Nigeria or some people of Northern extraction pushed him into his abysmal end. The era of Northern voting power which many of them had been using to rub us off down south is long gone.

If he dares comes out again to contest,he'd lose.

Politics / Re: Obasanjo Neglected Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road – Onanuga by Eriokanmi: 3:16pm On Aug 24
madridguy:
No lie or hating here. OBJ would rather fly helicopter to his Otta farm.

Abule egba/ Abeokuta road is the reason many Ogun State people hates him till today.
Maybe occasionally he'd flycopter. But I've seen him drive past same area to ota many times when he was president. The road was still good then. His convoy no dey pas 3. He loved benz G wagon with transparent windows so we used to see him and wave. At times I'd be wondering why travel in the convoy of just 3 vehicles but then, Nigeria was safer then than now. He used to come home in ota every weekend to relax. Once we saw police shattered on the highway way, we know say baba dey home.

Concerning the lagos-abule egba road, it was awarded to julius berger towards the end of his 2nd term. Obj did a lot of roads in the south west as he did in other places. I remember the ife-ibadan expressway which terminated after ilesha. Ghali umar na'aba who was the then speaker criticised him for the road, that he constructed a world class highway in his region which wasn't even true.

Government is a continuum. His successors came but didn't revisit the Abeokuta-abule egba highway. Only buhari did one side with sukuk fund and abandoned the other. Trucks fall down and kill people there regularly. Pa Onanuga should tell tinubu to look into it. The situation is worrisome

I was in ado ekiti a few days after the presidential election. See protest. They said they didn't vote tinubu, how come he won in ekiti so massively? They didn't understand the apc colluded with yakubu to switch off the server, during which they manipulated figures nationwide to favour tinubu.

By the time server came back on, all those manipulated figures appeared on the irev portal. Despite their abracadabra, they didn't do a perfect job, especially in rivers.

Tinubu really slapped Nigerians in the face. No wonder his government is in this disarray despite applying all their ever known strategies. Now there's fuel scarcity after removing subsidy and the nnpc is blaming it on bad weather and thunderstorm grin

Wuruwuru to the answer never pays. God is wonderful.

madridguy:
Failure of our past and present leaders. Imagine a country as big as this with no good borders and effective custom officers.
Believe their usual lies at your own risk. All the countries mentioned also import petrol and they're also not paying subsidy in their countries. As a matter of fact, Niger has a refinery serving their people actively.

Why would they now buy smuggled fuel from Nigeria who also goes to same source to import fuel as them? They once claimed fuel scarcity during the era of subsidy payment was as a result of the smugglers activities at the borders cos Nigerians sold subsidized petrol to those countries across the borders.

You must have read here a few days ago when the NNPC claimed the reason for scarcity and the return of long queues were as a result of rain and thunderstorm grin that was the first time in my life I'd hear such a fat lie. Please don't join people who are being fooled by their lies. Nigerians should be wiser. This administration has failed woefully. Tomorrow, they'd blame another thing for the continued scarcity.

I can't use a virtual card to book a hotel. Even if payment was successful online, by the time you show up during your arrival, a physical copy will still be required to swipe and confirm identity. God just saved me from embarrassment in June in the US. The receptionist didn't even collect cash as an alternative. I had to look for another hotel nearby, where cash was accepted. I'd have been stranded.

In as much as the virtual card is good, the physical one is much better.

Romance / Re: "No Girl Is Genuinely Happy Until She Gets Married" - Nigerian Lady by Eriokanmi: 1:03pm On Aug 21
True. Forget what those feminists are saying. They love marriage genuinely more than anything. They also love children . Ask Linda Ikeji nah. She's not even trending on social media anymore, unlike when she used to be a feminists mentor.

Anyone who's in doubt that ladies love marriage genuinely should reason with the below:

Why is it that ladies always talk of marriage more than guys?

Why do ladies get happier during their wedding preparations and on their wedding day, regardless of their financial status and family background?

Why are they more populated than guys at marriage seminars and prayers for singles?

The above do not have anything to do with poverty or dependence on men as many guys have wrongly posited. There are super rich single ladies out there who aren't happy cos they don't have someone to call her husband.

Thank you. I have been worried because I was denied a Canada visit visa last year with the same generic reason of financial assets . But I didn’t have a US visa then. I got the US visa this year. Do you think the previous visa denial would be a problem this time?
Now you're talking. The Canadian visa denial was the main reason your visa application processing is being delayed. With this information you just provided, your app will go through the normal processing time oo. But expect a positive response. Usually, once you've travelled at least once to the US and you came back without abusing the visa status(i.e,you didn't overstay your visit receive medical care without fully settling your bills), your Canadian visa app shouldn't take the normal processing time to conclude, regardless if you've traveled to Canada in the past or not. You automatically qualify for Can+ treatment

See a leader of tomorrow talking, shame!. The one number one country in the world is using is almost 2 to times older than those used by the nigerian president. Do you think it's only one that Nigeria has? Do all the 5 fleets breakdown same time each time. I'd not be surprised tomorrow if a notable politickan floats his airline. They've sold all of them secretly to themselves. Most of the places I fly in Europe and usa are over 30 years old. Ours is 19 years old. I remember Thomas cook and jetblue. Spirit airways isn't left out. Our leaders don't care about you guys defending them

Yes, I have traveled to the US with the same visa.
Then, your decision is around the corner. At times, these people consider a lot of things when taking a decision but your travel history to America will influence their decision a great deal. With the usa visa and travel experience to same country, a lot of stages will be skipped on their assessment scale. Just hope for the best. Good luck

Have you travelled to the US before, either with the same valid visa or an expired one? If no is the answer, your visa will most likely go through a normal processing time, though could be shorter than those without travel history.
