backbencher: .
Well they have a lot of viral and protozoal and bacterial dieseases there, and all of the drugs cost more than they do in NIgeria.
Medicaid does not cover all the poor (if your cash earnings are above a certian level, you don't qualify) and it does not cover everything...and it does not guarantee free care for the poor...especially for many chronic conditions. Poor people have to pay a lot of money for care, even with medicaid.
We pay a lot, but not as much as we should pay because care in this country is subsidized, it isn't free
NIgeria subsidsies fuel, it doesn't mean you get fuel for free, it means you pay less than in Ghana(for example) where fuel isn't subsidized
Government does not subsidize private clinics or pay them any money at all(except through NHIS/PHIS, and even then the jokes can refuse to pay the money due to the hospital because 'the condition is not covered'). Private clinics don't get any money from government. If you want subsidized care, go to a government hospital.
That's why private clinics are expensive. They have to raise the money themselves, and get zero money from government. (Same reason why private universities charge fees in the millions. As Oyedepo said, about his university...Government helped by giving him some land , but that was that. No money, nothing) Medicaid is for all the poor in some states. By poor, the mean very low income earners and there are financial criteria for that. This is to take off the burden from government funds. When you sign on, it tells you what percentage for what illness government pays andbyes, it can be free: https://www.goodrx.com/insurance/medicaid Does this not tell you how sincere their government is? our arguement is on subsidy and I told you it doesn't happen here unlike what obtains there. I had to buy a recommended drug fro AKTH, Kano and they had only 1 and asked me to buy from the pharmacy across the road, lamco pharmacy if I remember, the price difference is only 70 naira so again where is the subsidy unlike Medicaid that government pays almost 100% of your bill depending on the ailment and criteria. To have a clearer picture of subsidy, government wants to remove subsidy in February and everyone is protesting because government pays about 50% per PMS liter. How much are they paying in the healthcare I ask again. |
Business › Re: Coke, Fanta Prices To Increase As FG Imposes N10/litre Excise Duty On Carbonated by erniok(m): 7:43am On Jan 06, 2022 |
backbencher: Not everyone gets medicalid and it doesn't pay for everything and some healthcare providers won't take on Medicaid patients because it doesn't pay as well.
Us doesn't subsidise it's health care for all. Plus health insurance only pays part of the cost. Meaning that people have to pay the rest which can run into thousands of dollars.
Healthcare inthe us is expensive. You need to spend some time reading up about it.
Nigeria subsidies healh care. Otherwise your costs would be much higher. NHIS and phis even help cut some costs. Malaria drugs are cheaper in Nigeria than abroad for example
I work in healthcare so I know some things. I've worked in goverment and private care. Using malaria as case study is way off the grid. Do people die from malaria in abroad? (i.e if we are on the same page on that definition). In US, they think Bill Gates foundation on malaria is a scam because it's almost nonexistent there. Medicaid is for the poor and you are right, it doesn't cover everything and that's true definition of subsidy. I know my part and what's the part of the government. Can we really say same for Nigeria? Have you ever been to a government hospital and they tell you what %age the government is paying for? I guess not. I know private clinics that the drugs you buy from in-house pharmacy is way expensive than the one you buy from outside the hospital. So where is the subsidy again. Subsidy in the petroleum sector is not hidden so why is that of healthcare known only to those in the industry? |
Business › Re: Coke, Fanta Prices To Increase As FG Imposes N10/litre Excise Duty On Carbonated by erniok(m): 6:22am On Jan 06, 2022 |
backbencher: US can afford Medicaid because they tax everyone of their citizens.
Nigeria cannot afford Medicaid type programmes because we tax only 30% of our taxable citizens, and our tax to gdp ratio is low.
The bulk of our revenue comes from oil which is never enough because the price never favours us at all. Hence we take loans
Plus not everyone in the us is covered by Medicaid. Most Americans use health insurance which does not mean free healthcare. Some still have to pay very high amounts of money at the end of the day. Medicaid is for the poor, those that can, pay meeter health insurance. My arguement is that Nigerian government has nothing to lose about my health in this taxation as against like US that subsidizes their citizens healthcare and as such, shouldn't bring that arguement to the table. |

The Executive is to execute all duties of govt.
If the Supreme Court (Judiciary) has given an order, it must be obeyed and nothing is bad in the AGF ensuring it is. Sir, please read what they constitution says about executing judgement of the supreme court. That should clear the air. |

backbencher: The fact that she is paying 350k and not 2million or more as in other climes is why I say health care is subsided in Nigeria
In a private hospital, the deposit would start at 500000 naira or more. (some may even take a million)..and that's just the begining.
A CS in Nigeria costs less than 2000 dollars. In the US, it's 15000 dollars or more.
If she was on NHIS, it would have cut the cost a bit even.
It is also why we have bad care in government hospitals as subsides prevent profits being made.... A CS in US $15k and you think the poor can afford that without Medicaid? You are told what %age the government is paying for you. That's what real subsidy is and not what you think we have here and that's the kind of place government is concerned when you become obsessed because it takes money from their pocket. In Nigeria where mortality rate is high for the poor, what has the government being doing. Government hospitals won't take you in unless you pay bills first and you are here talking about subsidy. |

backbencher: It's because some of you haven't seen the complications of diabetes, like kidney disease, eye problems, leg problems, chronic pain, etc etc...which cost government a lot of money to treat (yes, healthcare is subsidized in this country...it's why your bills are not in the millions of naira like in the USA, and we have insurance , limited, but there)
Chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc, cost governments the world over a lot of money, and not just healthcare money...a person admitted in hospital with complications of diabetes is a worker not producing...money gone. Health is subsidized in this country? Are you kidding me? Have you ever being to a general hospital or you are sitting in the comfort of your bedroom and typing this. Do you even have an idea of what public health insurance is like? My landlords daughter was admitted in the ICU of LUTH but not without paying 350k first asides paying for card before being attended to. Please let's be serious here. |

SIMPLE. Obviously, you didn't know why I quoted the guy and true to your nature, you had to jump in. Go back and read why I quoted him. |
Politics › Re: Amazon, AliExpress To Pay 6% Tax From Profits Made From Nigerian Customers - FG by erniok(m): 9:58pm On Jan 05, 2022 |
NGpatriot: You even prefer to surrender your own income and revenue just to make sure that other countries make profit at your own expense? Why?
Self-hatred and self sabotage is when you care more about other people than your own country, they can even deny you the money you need for your own progress and development and use the money to keep developing their own country instead.
Why are some Nigerians like this?
The Like I said, every business was created to make profits not lose it. It's not about being emotional. Of what use is being in Nigeria when they make good profits in USA without being encumbered by things like staff salary, company tax, etc. If you think businesses are created to serve sentiments, show me such business model and stop yapping about self-hatred. |
Politics › Re: Amazon, AliExpress To Pay 6% Tax From Profits Made From Nigerian Customers - FG by erniok(m): 9:37pm On Jan 05, 2022 |
stepaside2: Absolutely the right thing to do. However as noted by others, these companies will just add the 6% VAT on top of product price and remit to govt. It even gives them some stream of income as they will likely keep and trade with the VAT money collected and only remit by year end.
As Non Resident Companies not registered in Nigeria, unfortunately they can't pay company income tax. However this is still a good step. Next is to encourage them to register and open offices in Nigeria and expose them to the potential of our large population. If only FG can see the win-win in this and do all it can to make it happen. You want to eat into their profits abi? Every business entity is created to make profit and not lose it. They can only come to Nigeria and open offices if we stop buying online. They lose more being here. |

Milito: The police are there to enforce a Supreme court judgement.
Sanwo-Olu is trying to intimidate the officer in the carrying out of his duties.
The state government has lost the case at the Supreme Court, why delaying execution? The delay is very unnecessary. The government is continuum and they should have seen this day coming and made provisions for it by maybe relocating the residents to lekki or another highbrow area. I was only concerned about the interest of the AGF in the matter. |

OriOko88: Don't be ignorant. The federal govt has a juridiction in tbis case, because it passedthrough the supreme court. So malami being an agf is trying to enforce the judgment of the supreme court. So what malami is doing here is legal. Olodo You are the ignorant one here. That the supreme court gave judgement doesn't make it a federal case. Go and learn. There is a process of enforcing the judgements of the supreme court and it does not involve the AGF office. |

Ishitinyourlife: Bro agencies like fbi,DEA,ATF,CIA can do and undo in any Us state, however states do have way more independence than states do here and they mostly control Thier affairs themselves and make Thier own laws. I think the supreme court is just enforcing it's ruling on this case, the same thing happens in the USA too, this is a federal matter not a state Matter, the supreme court has ruled that the state government gives back the 549,000 plots of land they illegally acquired 38 years ago and there is pretty much nothing the state can do about it You don't understand how the separation of powers work over there so make more research. County sheriff can decline the help of the state police if they feel they can handle it. There are federal and state jurisdictions over there. It has to be a recognised federal crime before a federal agency can take over the case. Secondly, the supreme court if the highest court in the land, it's neither federal nor state and that's why they can determine issues involving even the president. No one is against the judgement being enforced which is over due but what is the involvement of the AGF. I understand that of the IG. |

ednut1: supreme court gave a ruling that some other people own the land. So they have a right to enforce the order na Definitely, supreme court gave a ruling which must be enforced. AGF involvement is what I'm questioning as it does not follow the laid down process. It's an obvious abuse of power. Later, we may hear that he has no hand in the matter like that of justice Odili. |
Politics › Re: Police CSP Defies Governor Sanwo-Olu's Order To Vacate Magodo Estate (Video) by erniok(m): 9:41pm On Jan 04, 2022 |
Ishitinyourlife: This is not USA,and fyi governors do not have final say on everything in the USA, you're still directly under Federal laws and there are law enforcement agencies that can go to any state in the USA to enforce something like this too This made me laugh. You're wrong in some ways, there are state jurisdictions that federal enforcement agencies don't cross. In US, the governor is in charge of state police like LAPD, NYPD, etc. In this incident, the federal unit has no jurisdiction and that's why the issue is between state government, landlords and magodo residents. I'm yet to understand the interest of the AGF in this matter. Maybe in the coming days it's crystallize. |
