By Ken Divine Nigeria is a soap bubble created by Lord Lugard against the advice of Winston Churchill. We should NOT be afraid to burst the bubble in peace. There's nothing wrong for self determination. It's our sovereign right as a people. Nigeria is a forced marriage of nations under the umbrella of a name Nigeria. It's only with time & I hope the time have come. In the UK, there have been agitation for the right to self determination and that saw the creation of the Welsh parliament. Scotland also wants out, hence the recent referendum. It's happened here in Europe, the old Soviet union was broken up. The former Yugoslavia was broken up. Then why can't the individual nations forced into the evil oppression of the south by the north in the name of one Nigeria be broken in peace? The North have said they don't want others by asking the Igbos to leave, because come 01/10/2017, they will NOT care who is Igbo or not. They will see all southerners as igbos. The north have marginalised the south for too long and now is the time to act. The exodus have began from the north and I think its vice visa. This has been postponed for too long. We the people of the Niger-Delta want out. God bless us all... Simply Exquisite by Kenneth Divine https://mobile.facebook.com/Telling-me-your-story-is-cool |

This is a collection of articles that address the Tithe Lie. If you read them with prayer, you will find freedom. BIBLE FACTS: To Tithe or Not to Tithe: The Search For Truth Though I’ve always struggled with the tithe, I still shook my head in disgust when I heard about the preacher who’s congregation quietly left the church during the prayer following a long sermon on tithing. He said "Amen", looked up and cried out "half my church is gone!" I laughed saying "they must have fled the conviction of the Holy Spirit". What the Lord said took me completely by surprise: "They fled from error and guilt-based giving". "What?!?" - I’ve heard more sermons on the tithe than on any other topic except perhaps our need of Jesus for eternal life! After I picked up my jaw from the floor, the Lord prompted me to study tithing and giving. Throughout the Bible study I prayed for His guidance and in the end I reached the inescapable conclusion that the "tithe" is to the modern church what the issue of "circumcision" was to the church in Paul’s time. NOTE: Nothing in this article is intended as an excuse to stop giving as the Lord leads you to give. The verse most often cited in support of the tithe is from the Old Testament, found in Malachi 3:8-10: 8. ""Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, `How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. 9. You are under a curse--the whole nation of you--because you are robbing me. 10. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Many preachers shorten Malachi 3:8-10 to just "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse", and almost always with the inference that their church is the "storehouse". For purposes of this paper, the Lord had me concentrate on the passage: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house". From that passage, the Lord had me research several questions: 1) What is the tithe? 2) What was the tithe for? 3) What is the storehouse? 1) What is the tithe? The tithe is 10% of the increase, established in Leviticus 27:30-33 as an offering Holy to the Lord. The scripture identifies the tithe as grain and fruit, herd and flock. The tithe is food! An example of the tithe can be seen in a shepherd with a flock of 100 sheep who is blessed with the birth of 50 lambs in the spring. Five of the lambs must be offered to the Lord as a tithe. The tithe was brought to the temple in Jerusalem in acknowledgement and appreciation of God’s provision for His people. 2) What was the tithe for? God doesn’t need the food – God doesn’t eat. God doesn’t desire sacrifices or offerings ( Psalm 40:6 and Hosea 6:6 ) – He desires mercy. God doesn’t need us to give Him a 10th of everything – when He already owns everything ( Psalm 24:1 and Job 41:11b ). The tithe was used to feed the Levite priests (and their families) who were required to work in the temple day and night ministering to God on behalf of God’s people ( 1 Chronicles 9:33 ). Without the tithe, the Levite priests would have needed to raise their own food, thereby taking them away from ministering before God. Hence the reference in Malachi 3:10 "…that there may be food in my house". Nehemiah 13:10-13 records a time when the Levite priests were not receiving the tithe wherein they abandoned their daily temple responsibilities to work the farms to feed their families. The reference to ‘robbing God’ in Malachi 3:8 is in fact robbing God of ministry and worship by failing to take care of God’s priests through the tithe of food items. Unlike the other tribes of Israel who were given land as their inheritance, the Levites were not given any land – only a few cities in which to live. God was their inheritance ( Numbers 18:20-21 ). Thus, the remaining tribes were obligated to provide the Levites with food since they had no land on which to grow their own. 3) What is the storehouse? 2 Chronicles 31 teaches that the storehouse is the Temple in Jerusalem. When the tithe was re-instituted under King Hezekiah, the king gave orders to prepare storerooms in the temple to hold the tithe. Apparently the grain "tithe" was heaped up in the streets, which caused a traffic jam of sorts. King Hezekiah had the storehouse built to relieve a bad case of urban congestion in ancient Jerusalem. Having established the original purpose of the tithe, the Lord prompted me with several more questions...TO BE CONTINUED Jack Helser |
Attah in the post titled ‘AND THE DOCTOR DIED’ Essien wrote: “Dr Orji Allwell was my junior and also a graduate of College of Medicine University of Lagos. Indeed I left the great citadel of learning just when he was learning the rudiments of the profession hence our paths never crossed but if they had, I would have embraced him like a brother and share ward round tales of how we survived the likes of Professor Bode and Professor Odum. “But Dr Orji is dead. I heard he jumped off Third Mainland Bridge in an apparent suicide. What could have pushed the young man to take his own life? What level of frustration can kill the joy of life in an intelligent young man? “Indeed the dark-side of Medicine in Nigeria has once again reared its ugly head. A profession that is in the final death throes of extinction has claimed another victim. “Indeed many see Doctors as being on top of the food chain hence they carry a heavy burden. Numerous relatives feast on their finances like hungry vultures who keep on coming back for more carion. They can never take no for answer for it is said Doctors always have money as if they work in Nigerian Mint. “Besides the retinue of dependents, there is the drop in job satisfaction. The recalcitrant nature of Government has left many doctors on half pay, irregular pay or no pay at all. How can a man with a retinue of dependents and a gamut of hungry mouths to feed survive when his small stipend is irregular and subject to political manipulations? “And the frustration only mounts when you see your colleagues who travelled overseas faring far better despite your waning patriotic zeal that Nigeria will be better. “This is only the beginning of frustration to harbour such justified thoughts. “Then there is the poor state of affairs in the health sector. Incessant strikes and decaying infrastructure have reduced Doctors in Nigeria to a basal level of indignation and anger. It is now easier to squeeze water from stone than ensure the best possible care for patients. The most basic of life saving measures like Oxygen and Blood transfusion services are fast becoming a luxury and it is only a man of stone who will not feel depressed at the loss of a patient whose life could have been saved. Doctors see the poverty and the helplessness of the common man every day. And when you care for another human being, their problems become your problem as well hence you share in their laughter, sorrow or frustrations. “This is the lot of a Nigerian Doctor. “But the worst culprit of them all are fellow Doctors. How many colleagues called Dr Oji and asked how he was doing? How many went out of their way to show him love through his time of difficulty? A Doctor is not super human. He is flesh and blood. We all need each other. “Instead professional rivalry amidst the spectre of consolidating respect and loyalty breeds a medical milieu that is akin to a rat race or the dog eat dog phenomenon in a bid to survive shark infested waters of economic recession and financial stability. “The younger colleagues bemoan the vindictive tendencies of their seniors who train amidst abuse and subjugation. Meanwhile, the seniors are angered at the dwindling spectre of respect in the profession. Hence a tense atmosphere of unequally yoked colleagues is the bane of the medical profession in Nigeria that stokes the embers of sadness, hopelessness and depression. “Dr Oji took it to the extreme but many more Doctors are ill motivated and dissatisfied with the system. Those who can, have left while others are in the process of leaving. These are indeed the lucky majority for Nigeria has twice the number of Nigerian Trained Doctors overseas than the number at home. “And the trend is worsening as even more are jetting out as their future in Nigeria appears ever so bleak. “It is time for Doctors to close ranks. Care for one another. Respect your seniors. And seniors stop belittling the younger colleagues. End the rivalry that sees parents eating their young and vice versa. It takes nothing to be kind to one another. Kindness and love are all Dr Oji needed but on his day of need we were all found wanting. “Many a colleague are going through a lot but because of the burden of society, they feel ashamed to speak out. Hence the onus is on us Doctors to seek them out and nurture them back to sound mental and physical health. That’s what it means to be your brother’s keeper. “Patients should also learn to appreciate their doctor. This is the sole joy of a Doctor that no one can take from them. Their service to humanity shouldn’t only be rewarded in heaven but a simple thank you can go a long way to making a doctor’s day. These are the worst of times to be sick in Nigeria and it’s also the worst of times for health personnel. “I know so many who are without a job and are struggling to survive. Even those with a job are living from hand to mouth. “Don’t mind the facade of Dr Oji’s beautiful Nissan SUV, the man had issues and just a calming word could have averted this tragedy. “Say something nice to someone today. It might make the difference between life and death. Show love to someone today. That may give them a reason to keep on living. “Life is too short to spend it unhappy. Put a smile on someone’s face today. Dr Oji is no more and the Doctor Died, oh what a day of sorrow for many have tried but have failed to overcome the sorrow of today. Be an overcomer today. Make yourself happy but its even better when you make someone else happy. It is well….and the Doctor died, oh what a pity for a life lost prematurely to the sands of ti me.” #Copied# |
Was thinking about the fellow that jumped into the lagoon yesterday and I just couldn't help but feel sad....I spent time wondering what could have moved the young man to such an action. Heard on radio this morning that he was just 35 years.... At 35 he was a doctor...had a car, and even a driver...from the Nigerian standard that sounds like a successful young man in all ramifications. There probably were lots of his secondary school mates or his university mates envying him. But truth is no one knew what he was going through..... I concluded that he was having a bout of depression and it took a bad turn. It brings me back to this group of ours. I will ask some pertinent questions that I am also guilty of. When last did we check on a friend that we haven't heard from in a while? When last did we visit some one we knew was finding things difficult? When we see someone who had it going so well and all of a sudden is finding it hard to make ends meet, do we make fun of them? When was the last time we called the names of particular people in our circle during our prayers with our creator, to intercede on their behalf ? The economy is tough and truly people are finding it more difficult to survive. We need to watch out for each other...we need to call, we need to visit. We never know who needs just an ear to listen to all the problems he/she is going through. Let's be more caring..I am guilty of this too. I am going to try as well. To at least call someone per day just to say hello! Lets ponder on this for a few seconds and decide to assist each other psychologically today. |
