FoodWeekend Recipe....classic Coconut Rice Recipe By Dobby's Signature by esotericjules(op): 11:36am On Sep 02, 2017
Hi guys..Been a while I made a post. Apologies, I've had my attention pulled to something different and time consuming. However, I promise to do my best to keep this web space of mine updated as frequently as possible.

Well this post is for those of us scratching our head and thinking of a fresh new dish to serve our household and guest this Sallah weekend? (By the way HAPPY HOLIDAYS everybody) Why not opt for the Classic Coconut Rice.

This dish will offer another way of cooking rice, which is refreshing with a unique flavor that's different from the everyday jollof rice which is served in every Nigerian occasion and has even sparked an argument between our very own Vice President Osibanjo and Minister of Information Lai mohammed.

So, let's give Jollof Rice a break and eat Coconut Rice for a change.

Our recipe today will be taken from none other but one of my favorite Nigerian food bloggers, Dobby. Dobby is a popular Culinary and Lifestyle blogger who blogs at DobbysSignature

She added a yummy twist to her classic Coconut rice recipe by adding her special Turkey Stock. Read her full recipeand instructions on how to make the dish below..

How to make classic coconut rice
• Prep time: 15 minutes
• Cook time: Over 30 minutes
• Meal Type: Main course
• Region: Nigeria

Ingredients:::
•4 cups Rice
•1 pint Thick Coconut Milk (View the Extraction process Here)
•1 Kilo Turkey
•1 tbsp.Thyme
• 1 tsp. Curry powder
• 1 medium sized onion, chopped
• 3 seasoning cubes
1 cup Butter or Margarine or Vegetable oil
• Salt to taste
• Water

Additional vegetables (Optional but not necessary)
• 1 bunch Spring onion , chopped
• 2 Fresh pepper (Scotch bonnet), chopped
•1 Green bell pepper, chopped
Directions:::
Step1: The first step is to parboil the rice. To do this, you place the rice in a pot and some water and cook for about 10 minutes till its firm to the bite but still under-cooked.

Step 2: Time to prepare the stock. For this i'd be using turkey meat but you can use chicken, goat, cow or any meat you have available. Place the turkey in a medium sized pot, add thyme, curry powder, chopped onion, crushed seasoning cubes and salt to taste. Add some water and leave to cook for about 12 minutes.

Step 3: Remove the turkey from the stock and fry or grill the turkey meat then set aside.

Step 4: Into the turkey stock, add the parboiled rice, coconut milk , butter/margarine or vegetable oil. Cover and leave to cook for about 15 minutes or until the liquid in the pot dries up.

Step 5: Add the Spring onion, Fresh pepper (Scotch bonnet) and Green bell pepper, stir and leave to simmer for 5 minutes. turn off the burner and serve.

Happy Cooking....

21-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Hawa Akhter had her five finger's reportedly slashed off by her husband, due to his jealous rage on her decision to further her studies.

The husband, 30-year-old Rafiqul Islam, trickily blindfolded her and taped her mouth, telling her he wanted to give her a surprise present. He made her hold out her hand and he slashed off all her five fingers. A relative of Islam, then threw Ms. Akhter's fingers in the dustbin to ensure doctors could not reattach them.

While talking to the times, Ms. Akhter revealed that her husband has warned her that there would be severe consequences if she did not put an end to her studies.

"After he came bak to Bangladesh, he wanted to have a discussion with me, Suddenly, he blindfolded me and tied my hand. He also taped my mouth saying that he would give me some surprise gifts. But instead, he cut off my fingers." She told the times.

The Bangladesh Police Chief, Mohammed Saluddin said that. Mr Islam had confessed after he was arrested, in the capital Dhaka, and will face charges of permanent disfiguration.

"He was enraged. He was jealous because while he only had a grade eight standard education, she was off to college to pursue higher studies," said Mr Saluddin.

CrimeCrack Smoking Woman Gives Birth To Premature Baby And Drives Around Town With Hi by esotericjules(op): 2:42pm On May 05, 2017
Source:http://www.9jagirlfriends.com/

According to the police, 37-year-old Chesney Wheeler delivered her baby two and a half month's premature at home near Williamsport on April 12 and allegedly put the baby in a cardboard box and drove to an out-of-town hospital out of fear that doctors would find out she smoked crack cocaine and used heroin the night before the girl was born.

According to reports by The Associated Press, Wheeler told the police that she "wasn't exactly thrilled at being pregnant" before she delivered the girl at home, after which she passed out.

When she eventually woke up, she put the baby in the back seat of her car in the cardboard box and started driving around, at that point she already knew the baby was dead because rigor mortis had set in.

It is reported that she told hospital officials she miscarried and may have flushed the baby down the toilet, but a friend who accompanied wheeler to the hospital led cops to the baby's corpse in the parking lot.

Wheeler was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, evidence tampering, obstruction of law, enforcement and fleeing prosecution.

She's set to appear in court by May 10, for a preliminary hearing.

Actress and producer, Juliet Ibrahim took to her Instagram handle moments ago to say her take on the issue of Domestic Violence, while also calling out celebrities who have chosen to go around snapping and tweeting while mocking their fellow woman who is going through hardship.

Read what she wrote below;

"Our value as women has been taken for granted due to domestic violence, egoism and male chauvinism. Never joke about domestic violence. Violence is never a choice anyone should make!! ‘Why Didn’t You Just Leave?’ A question we are all quick to ask but we should never be the judge until we hear Domestic Violence Survivors Explain Why It’s Never That Simple!!! 80% of women experience violence in relationships around the world and its growing rapidly; We need to speak up and lend our voices as much as we can to encourage these Victims to speak up early enough to avoid a nasty fate, keeping quiet and thinking that He/She will change is not the solution! Also; When a gun is present in a domestic violence situation, it increases the risk I of homicide for women by 500 percent. #domesticviolence shame unto every so-called celebrity that is actually tweeting and snapping while mocking any thing concerning another woman's well being that is out there in the news... don't forget Karma is a real bitch; be careful what you wish for others. #sayNotodomesticviolence Thank God there are authorities in place nowadays to do the needful and deal with these maniacs! Violence is not an excuse and should never be a choice no matter what!"

CrimeColombian Woman Eats $9000 Life Savings To Provoke Her Cheating Husband. by esotericjules(op): 1:07pm On May 05, 2017
30-year-old Columbian woman, Sandra Milena Almeida, after discovering that her husband has been unfaithful to her, ate and swallowed her entire life saving, to prevent him from getting his hands on the money, after he discovered where she had hidden the money and demanded half of it.

Her actions came to light when she started having abdominal pains and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors found bundles of notes inside her stomach after carrying out a series of tests.

Juan Pulo Serrano, Director of Surgery at the University Hospital of Santander, Juan Paulo Serrano told reporters "57 $100 bills were found and extracted by the orifice opened in the stomach. Some extra rolls of money were found in the intestine, which advanced to the colon.
"She ate rolls of bills, they were not wrapped up for any form of illicit transport," he added. "It seems it was an act of desperation by this woman, due to the problem she was facing, to ingest these elements, and this, of course, affects the patient's normal intestinal functioning and life."

Mrs. Almeida is expected to make a full recovery.

HealthHow To Prevent Bloating by esotericjules(op): 12:17pm On May 02, 2017
Source:http://www.9jagirlfriends.com/

A few weeks ago, I stumbled across the topic for this post in one of my favorite blogs 'Byrdie.'
Now one of the worst things I hate in a human physique is a big stomach. Kai, my hatred for that prodigiously distended stomach, the one referred to as “Afor Beer , that makes some people look like the swallowed a life toad, is almost bordering to the point of obsession.

This is not to say that I have the flattest stomach in the history of flat stomachs, quite the contrary, my stomach is of a considerable size, though it might not be noticeable when I’m standing, but when I sit down it distends embarrassingly outwards. Even though I try as much as possible not to hate any part of my body, but my stomach is one part I will gladly trade, for a flatter one, of course. Lawd help me. To think that a few years back I had a semi-nonexistent stomach.

You might be wondering if you hate your stomach that much why not do something, but mehn have I tried? I have gone as far as lifting weights, hoping that within weeks my tummy will be as flat as Agbani Darego’s when she won the miss world title, but alas it didn’t quite turn out that way and in a couple of weeks I got tired and dropped the workout beat. Don’t blame me, I hate sweating and with workout comes sweating. I have also tried dieting, but my love for some certain foods no just gree me stick to the routine and gosh is dieting expensive?. Who has that kind of money to be eating nothing but wheat when you want to swallow? But nevertheless, I’m still not relenting on my quest to get back that my highly desirable semi-non-existent stomach. I know I’m not the only 9ja girl out there on this great quest, so I decided to share some of the some of the things I read in the post with all 9jagirlfriends battling along with me.

In the post, the writer said that there are two ways to get a flat stomach.
Hitting the gym
Focusing on bloating.

Since the gym bit is something I’m not too keen about at the moment and not everyone can afford, let’s focus on bloating. Here are a few remedies on how to go about de-bloating that terribly looking huge tummy.

EAT MORE SLOWLY

Lol, this might sound like a joke, but it isn’t. There are actually facts backing this. Eating very fast will cause you to take in so much air; hence your stomach will be filled up with gas, meaning you can feel a little more bloated than you previously were. So it’s actually advisable to eat mindfully and chew food longer to stop your stomach from getting full so quickly. This is important because since your stomach doesn’t have teeth, it will struggle to digest the bigger particles you didn’t chew properly and bacteria can start fermenting on the food, thereby causing digestive problems, thus preventing a flat stomach. Hehehe, if you’re the type that’s always eating like you’re been chased by your village masquerade, stop and repent from that habit, it might actually be what causes your bloating.
CHECK YOUR PORTION SIZE.
The quantity of food you eat has a lot to contribute to bloating. To prevent this, stick to a fist size portion. One of the main reasons we get excess bloating is that the bacteria in the colon is eating the food we eat and then that produces gas. So eating less food will starve this bacteria’s thereby resulting in less bloating. I know this is definitely going to be hard for some foodies, but if that bloating keeps you as uncomfortable as it keeps me, then eating less will sure help.

DRINK PEPPERMINT

One way to get a flat stomach when feeling bloated is by drinking peppermint tea. Many studies have proven the efficacy of peppermint and its effect on better digestion. Peppermint tea eases the muscles that allow painful digestive gas to pass. Hmm, I’ve never had peppermint tea before, but I’m definitely going to hunt it down.

EAT MORE YOGURT.

Not only does yogurt help to digest your food and help with getting a flat stomach, but it’s also thought to help with your immune system. Ok na, Farmfresh and Habib yogurt, here I come.

DE-STRESS

Stress can cause your body to not digest food properly. When your body goes into a fight or flight mode all the blood intended to help your body break down food,, will be unable to do their job as your body redirects it elsewhere in your system. So while sipping that peppermint tea, listen to some calming music and forget all about your worries.

AVOID OR EAT LESS OF THESE FOODS.

Some foods can cause you to feel more bloated. So eating less of them or completely avoiding them will get you one step closer towards that your flat tummy goal. Here they go, Beans, bread, carbonated drinks, onions, garlic, apples, dairy products, corn, pizza, (I know some of you are already shrieking, Not my dominos …Yes! that too), all these food can increase bloating.

ADDITIONAL THINGS TO DO TO PREVENT BLOATING

Here are a couple other things to do to prevent bloating, Quit smoking, chew less gum, don’t drink from a straw, drink more water.

Darris all, for now, my 9jagirlfriends, I hope we've learnt a thing or two, I know I did. Feel free to tell us what you have done in the past to prevent that disgraceful bloat.

RomanceGirl Asks How She Can Induce Her Boyfriend To Rape Her. by esotericjules(op): 7:03am On May 01, 2017
I want to be raped by my boyfriend how do I tell him? We live together I'm 24 & he's 34. He is too sweet, doesn't drink smoke lie or cheat. 2 years together and He still makes breakfast & dinner, comes home with flowers a bottle of wine and chocolates tied in ribbons and cries during sex. Now i don't want to sound ungrateful because I'm not, I love him more than red wine and only God knows how big of a love that is in my world, but He's too perfect to the point it's scary. I have tried to piss him off multiple times just to see his bad side but he doesn't reveal it and instead of finding comfort in that it only scares me more. He never shouts or gets angry. He never gives me a chance to pay for my actions or to the least punish me into thinking there's a chance I might lose him. He just easily says he loves me then forgives me like nothing happened. as of late I have had a strange crave for him that turns me on. I fantasize his hands around my neck and forced sex after a heated argument, even though he's never carried one. I really want him to rape me (when I least expect it or want it) just this once so I can see a different side of him that will relieve me. How do I tell him this? And as for my fellow ladies, have you ever encountered such a man? Do they really have a bad side? How do you get it out of him? (Except for cheating).

HealthMust Read: Bulging Bellies Due To Fibroid by esotericjules(op): 5:11am On Apr 30, 2017
This article was written by Chioma Obinna of Vanguard, I thought I should share it here for every 9jagirlfriend to read and learn one or two things about fibroid.

Here it goes,

Many women go about with protruding stomach even when they are not pregnant. It is common to find women looking fat at the waist region. Findings show that many of these women have fibroids. About seven in every 10 black women are, according to a research, affected by fibroids. Today, fibroids are widespread. Statistics from hospitals also reveal that at least one in every four Nigerian women will develop one or more fibroids in her lifetime. Fibroids are no doubt part of the contributor to the increase in needless deaths among women. Quite a number of women who died, even celebrities, have been linked to complications arising from fibroids. Sunday Vanguard looks at the burden of the condition, why it is on the rise and treatment options.

Patients stories
It has been difficult living with fibroids,” says Mrs. Bola Ayeni. Married at the age of 38, Bola has had this bulky stomach for years. She also struggled led with persistent bleeding, frequent urination, and cramping.
The bleeding sometimes comes so heavy that she would be confined within the walls of her bedroom for days. Even her finances are not spared as she uses between 11 and 15 pads a day anytime she is menstruating.
The pains and bleeding were so unbearable that she did whatever that comes her way including patronizing native doctors.
“I have looked for a solution from even places you cannot imagine but at the end of the day, there was no relief. Everybody thought it was, spiritual problem until it was finally confirmed that I have uterine fibroids, Bola told Sunday Vanguard.”
At this point, desperation set in. In a desperate move to end the pain and at the same time have a child, she said: “Many people have advertised all sorts of cure which I have tried, all of the herbs that you can imagine and they worked for a while, but it’s very expensive because you have to keep on going.”
Within a space of five years after marriage, Bola had several miscarriages. It became so bad that she resigned from her job. Although medical diagnosis revealed she has about seven fibroids in the uterine cavity, where the fetus would have occupied if all was well, Bola never backed down on her determination to give her husband a child.
Just like every other Nigerian woman, she visited many prayer houses in search of a solution. Unfortunately, the fibroids continued to increase in size, causing more harm and discomfort.
“Fibroids have compromised my career and life but knowing I may never be able to conceive is my worry. I’m not giving up on my desire to have children,” She said.
Months after months, her cycle started getting longer and longer. “It felt like I was bleeding all the time. My energy was low, and my relationships were strained. My bleeding was so severe that I felt very vulnerable and tied to my home. I did not want to be embarrassed. I was always having lower abdominal swelling and this has persisted for years.
“I was also having constipation even after eating a full plate of fruits. I have been afraid of doing surgery for some reasons. There have been stories about people who could not conceive after surgery. The worst part is that so many women have lost their lives after complicated fibroid surgery”.
Meanwhile, Bola is not alone. Felicia, an accountant, has a similar story to tell. Married at age 40, after she obtained a master’s degree from the University of Lagos in 2003, Felicia never had any inclination what life held in store for her. Unfortunately, after two years of blissful marriage and continuous sexual activity without any sign of pregnancy, she decided to consult a gynaecologist. She visited many hospitals until she was finally diagnosed of uterine fibroids; it was a trying time for Felicia and her family. According to experts, fibroids usually develop in women aged between 30 and 50 years and seem more regular in women who weigh over 70 kg. Fibroids are growths of the uterus or the womb. They are also called uterine leiomyomas or myomas. The uterus is made of muscle, and fibroids grow from the muscle. Fibroids can bulge from the inside or outside of the uterus.
“At 42, the thought of surgery was not an option for me. I got married at 40; since then I have been trying to get pregnant”, she said. All her efforts were without success.
Sadly, her bleeding during her cycle continued and she was constantly anaemic and dizzy, until her husband insisted she must go for surgery. A year after, she had a successful fibroid removal surgery called myomectomy, which allows the uterus to be left in place without losing function, and, for some women, it makes pregnancy more likely than before.
Felicia was relieved from the pains and bleeding, but little did she know that the problem was not yet over. Today, Felicia is battling another set of fibroids. The fibroids, according to experts, returned because she was unable to get pregnant immediately. Although doctors have advised Felicia to go for another surgery; she has decided to do nothing about it. “I look pregnant, people ask when the baby is due, and I sometimes struggle for breathe while exercising.”
Describing the ailment as her worst experience in life, she said: “I cannot wish it for my enemy. I don’t like talking about fibroids because of the psychological trauma it has caused me.”
Bola and Felicia, like many other Nigerian women, are overwhelmed by fibroids due to ignorance, misconceptions, late marriage and conception.
Today, there seems to be epidemic of fibroids among Nigerian women. More pathetic is the fact that myths and misconceptions about fibroids have tied so many women to the pains and frustrations of fibroids. Out of ignorance, they delay treatment and turn down surgery.
One of such myths is that the womb would be removed through hysterectomy (surgical removal of uterus).
However, medical experts have traced rising cases of fibroids to late marriage and conception. According to them, these factors are currently fuelling cases of fibroids.
They say many African women are postponing child birth which could cause the hormones (estrogens) in the uterus to malfunction.
In a report, Chief Consultant Radiotherapist and Oncologist, National Hospital, Abuja, Dr Abdurasaq Oyesegun, said fibroid was on the increase.
Oyesegun said the uterus was designed to carry baby and when such did not happen, the muscles in the uterus will increase to the point that it will become fibroid.
“The uterus is designed to carry babies and when it cannot carry babies, the growth increases and the muscles keep increasing. There is an increase in the incident of fibroids among women these days because women now get married late, and the only way to prevent it is for women to marry early.”
He advised women to marry in their early 20s to avoid the possibility of developing fibroid.
Debunking misconception on the link between fibroids and cancer, Oyesegun said fibroid was a non-cancerous growth in the womb that could sometimes cause heavy periods, abdominal swelling and urinary problems. He said although it was possible for young women to develop fibroid, it was not very common. According to him, early marriage would also enable women not to have difficulties in child-bearing. “Women with fibroid should patronise qualified gynaecologists because most deaths arising from fibroid operations were due to the activities of unqualified personnel, ”He stated.
Supporting his views, an obstetric gynaecologist at the University College Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda, Dr. Eve Nakabembe, explained that when conception is delayed, estrogens that is the hormones responsible for developing a baby in the womb tends to malfunction as a result of which the individual will start developing fibroid.
“We are seeing them more because African women are now postponing child-birth. And it is more in Catholic nuns because they don’t get pregnant and they have long duration of estrogens that are unchallenged. But when a woman is pregnant, she doesn’t ovulate. At that time the uterus is relaxed and then hormones are challenged.”
She explained that although the cause of fibroids is unknown there is no sure way to prevent them, adding that fibroids can be negatively influenced by female hormones.
“Depending on your nutrition you can surge your hormones more than necessary. Regular exercise and reducing BMI, reduces the amount of circulating estrogens.”
Myths
On the myth that the womb would be removed through hysterectomy to eliminate fibriods, she listed, options that help preserve the uterus.
According to her, fibroids are managed depending on how the patient wants it. “We base treatment on the fertility desires of the patient, that is, if the patient still wants to have children or has stopped a child bearing. Most times we perform hysterectomy or myomectomy depending on what is available. It can also be treated through uterine artery embolism.”
Perhaps one of the commonest misconceptions is that every woman with fibroids will experience heavy menstrual bleeding and pain. However, researchers estimate that between 50-80 percent of women with fibroids will experience no fibroid symptoms at all. Many women never even know that they have the condition and because fibroid tumors are almost always benign (non-cancerous), those who aren’t experiencing symptoms may not seek treatment.
According to a hospital-based study to assess the level of knowledge, perception, and attitude towards uterine fibroids among women diagnosed with the condition, Dr. M. A. Adegbesan-Omilabu and K. S. Okunade, both of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, and Dr A. Gbadegesin, of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, discovered that there is generally poor knowledge about uterine fibroids among women.
In the study entitled, “Knowledge of, Perception of, and Attitude towards Uterine Fibroids among Women with Fibroids in Lagos, Nigeria”, published in Scientifica – a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal, it was observed that several women were taking over-the-counter drugs that are likely to enhance the growth of fibroids. From the study review, it was observed that the majority of the women studied had various misconceptions about fibroids and infertility. In the study, 67 percent of the women perceived fibroid as a spiritual problem and hence sought treatment from spiritual homes and invariably presented late to the hospital.
Furthermore, the fear of complication of surgery for fibroids has also made many women seek alternative means of treatment. The researchers further noted that the fear of surgery was borne out of misinformation that they might have obtained, although surgery for uterine fibroid is not without complications.
While calling for intensive enlightenment on the etiology and treatment of fibroids, the researchers said many of the respondents have combined herbal products and some orthodox drugs at one point or the other in the past.
Throwing more light on the condition, Dr. Moses Ani, a family physician, and surgeon observed that most of the women that have surgery do get pregnant, but there is a percentage that comes out with other secondary issues such as blockage of the fallopian tube. “When a woman goes into menopause, the tendency is that the ovaries atrophy (shrink)”, he stated.

Consequently, as fibroids continue to threaten the lives of Nigerian women, critical health watchers are of the view that there is an urgent need for government to design a program to tackle fibroids as a public health issue.

This led to the unfortunate demise of the baby girl. All this while Kenzley's mother was being held in jail.

Red Dog then went to report Kenzley missing on April 19, 2016, suggesting that she may have been kidnapped.

However, a day after filing the report she confessed and took investigators to Kenzley's body.

Red Dog has reached an agreement to plead guilty to second-degree murder in the April 2016 death of Kenzley Olson.

U.S. District Judge Brian Morris has set a change-of-plea hearing for May 1 in Great Falls.

Prosecutors were prepared to show that Kenzley was ill and Red Dog who did not sick medical at the time as she was busy using meth with a friend became frustrated when she could not stop the girl from crying, she hit the girl on the head four times, causing her to have a seizure and lose consciousness, court records said.

The next morning, Red Dog decided to take the child to the hospital but said that she stopped breathing on the way.

"Red Dog, believing (Kenzley) to be dead, disposed of her body by placing her into a duffel bag and throwing the duffel bag in an alley trash can," prosecutors said.

Kezley died of multiple blunt force injuries, but an exam also noted numerous bruises from head to toe in various stages of healing, suggesting a pattern of continued physical abuse and neglect, an autopsy found.

Red Dog's mother, Rhea Starr, said her daughter was caring for kenzley when no one else would.

"That baby was passed along like yesterday's gossip," Starr told the Associated press last year.

FamilyHow Naija Girls Can Cope With The Pressure To Get Married By9jagirlfriend's Blog by esotericjules(op): 2:21pm On Apr 27, 2017
This post is a blog post from http://www.9jagirlfriends.com

I’m certain most of my 9jagirlfriends who are single, 24 and above have experienced some amount of pressure from loved ones, colleagues, boss, church members or even the dreaded haters all asking when you will finally join the marriage train.

Some of the pressuring can be of various types, like the subtle, seemingly harmless curiosity of your old secondary school mate who hits you up on Facebook after a few year of communication and asks “Jenny, Are you married?” or the almost hostile inquisition by your mother “Shola, when are you bringing our in-law to see us, you know you are not a baby again, and your time is flying by like a hurricane wind” or is it the almost fanatical concern of your pastor who after every church service calls you into his office and holds a ten minutes hot prayer section on your head asking God for nothing other than a Husband for you, you find out that the value of this husband decreases drastically as your age increases. When you’re 22, the pastor hammers prayer for a very wealthy husband, who probably lives in the abroad, preferably America or London. At 26, the husband can still be wealthy but don’t necessarily need to live in the abroad. At 29, the husband can be just an average hardworking man. At 32, the pastor prays for just a husband with no qualities attached to his supplication. Then at the very ripe old age of 35, the pastor starts praying and fasting almost daily with a feverish undertone of panic for “just any man, any man, be it who should come and locate your daughter….oh Lord.”

You find out that as time goes by all these pressuring starts to get into your head and create some very unpleasant thoughts up there. You start wondering to yourself, I’m I normal, what did my married friends do that I’m not doing right?, there must be an ancestral curse behind my singlehood, you spend hours in front of the mirror analyzing yourself and convincing yourself that you are not beautiful or worthy enough to attract a suitor.

These thoughts like torrential rainfall on a sloppy land begin to erode your mindset and total well being, when you run across an old friends message notification on Facebook you don’t even bother opening and reading the message for fear of that dreadful question. The pressure ways down on you so much so that you begin to look older than you age, making the prospect of landing the husband harder.

You might be thinking that you’re all alone in this battle, But I can assure you that you’re not, because there are thousands of Nigerian girls out there that are also facing these same challenges and here are seven tips on how we can all manage that grinding pressure.

7 TIPS ON HOW TO MANAGE THE PRESSURE TO GET MARRIED

1. BE HAPPY: Happiness is one of the keys to living a fulfilling life. Just as other keys to different thing are hard to come by so is happiness. You might be thinking, how can I be happy in this situation I’m in. But why can’t you be happy?, don’t you know that there are benefits to being single?, your doubt me, ok, here are a few. As a single chick you have the freedom to spend your time any way you please, you still have the freedom to date different guys and choose which is best for you, you don’t wake up early in the morning to feed a baby whose intent is to scream down the whole house, you are not subject to having sex every night with round the clock demanding Hot husband, you are not juggling your professional work with the work of raising children, and all the money you’re making now is only for you, you’re more healthy as a single cause some studies have shown that bad relationships or marriage can actually make you physically unhealthy. I know all these might sound selfish but we all have to be selfish to be selfless, and for a marriage to be successful each partner needs a healthy dose of selflessness.

2. PUT YOUR ENERGY TOWARDS BUILDING YOUR CAREER OR BUSINESS:
When you’re busy chasing your career or building up a business, all the external marriage pressure you will encounter will seem highly inconsequential to the ones you face from growing your career or business. If you get a nagging call from your mum or a nosy question from that old friend on social media, when you get home at night you immediately fall asleep from exhaustion instead of drowning yourself in self-pitying thoughts. But if you wake up for morning, fold your hand, sit down dey look, you will treat every question or call as if your existence depends on Marriage.

3. ANSWER EACH QUESTION WITH A HEALTHY DOSE OF HUMOR:
Nothing will shut up every nosy person who pressures you about marriage more than your humorous reply. When that curious friend goes “Cindy why you never marry?’’you reply immediately and jokingly “Hehehe, I never ready to pack shit and cook round the clock’’ watch him/her clamp up and move to the next topic, if they persist, douse the conversation with more humour until they tire. Treat the subject lightly and watch others follow suit but treat it seriously and watch every dick and harry drag you to all the prayer ministries around town.

4 HAVE A PRIVATE DISCUSSION WITH YOUR CLOSE FAMILY AND FRIENDS: When I mean close family and friends I mean those people you can’t do without and when they hound you, you feel like you have no ally’s left in the world. When these set of people starts pressuring you about marriage, the pressure has a way of sinking deep and causing more damage to your psyche than that of any fella out there. Sit down with let’s say your mum and have a detailed dialogue with her about your reasons for not being married yet, your goals and aspiration now and when you finally tie the knot, how her pressuring affects you mentally, physically or otherwise and why you need her to be supportive of your decisions. I tell you any mother wey love you and her head done go listen to your yarn.

5. STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF: Deep within you, you know yourself. Whatever that makes you happy or comfortable, as long as you’re ain't hurting nobody, DO IT. However your psyche is wired don’t rewire it to suit someone else, who knows you might not even want to ever get married because of one or two reasons, stick to that as long as at the end of the day you’re happy, don’t let anybody tell you that what you need is deliverance to rewire you, as long as no be madness, carry go.

6. GET A PLACE OF YOUR OWN: Having a place you call your own is like the true definition of domestic freedom. Having an accommodation of your own away from your family house will afford you more rest of mind and privacy that’s unequalled. If your family doesn’t get to see you every day at home, they will nag you less often. It’s as simple as that.

7. REMOVE THE WORD COMPROMISE FROM YOUR DICTIONARY: “Never, Ever compromise” this should be the mantra of all my fellow single 9jagirlfriends out there. The minute you compromise is the minute you walk into a very unpleasant marriage of had I knowns. I always try to remind myself of this. Whatever you want in a Husband or out of a marriage never succumbs to the pressure of marriage, keep going doggedly for it. Who is to say that we can’t have it all? Your married friends who tell you that you’re being unrealistic? Don’t mind them, they are simply jealous of the ability you still have to choose.

Go out there be confident and happy with who you are, what you have and where you are in life right now, cause the only option you have is to SLAY.

I don yarn finish. Wetin una think? Feel free to add your tips to the list and share your opinions.
