Now look at this scenario. (this is a personal scenario).
A girl starts dating a guy and she loves him very much. They make plans to get married and all that. To avoid back and forths, let's assume that both parties actually are true to each other.
However, in the past, the girl lived a wayward life. Luckily, she scaled through without disease or unwanted pregnancies.
Eventually, the talk of previous sexual partners comes up. The girl tells the guy all the sh*t she has done and how she has never been the faithful party in any relationship before this one..all in an attempt to be honest.
The guy is dumbfounded as he is more reserved but very un-trusting. Now, he finds out these things and he can't get past them even though he still loves this girl deeply.
Trust is lost. Eventually, the relationship is lost.

A merciful lie would have been adjusting the truth in such a way that the receiving party finds it bearable and everybody is happy.
A merciful lie is not one that covers up concurrent misdeeds (like the cheating man in your example).
A merciful lie is one that withholds dangerous secrets for the greater good.

The truth is good ooo.. But some bones are better left buried.

I will say these are the thoughts of a growing boy rather than a man speaking from insight..

Merciful lies prolong suffering, imagine a man cheating on his girlfriend and lying to her that he doesn't, they get married and she relays her suspicions to him and he denies, later on she gets pregnant and bear a child for him and later find out that he has been cheating since he met her... and decided to divorce him...

Now Here is what we have due to merciful lies.

1. We have a heart broken woman who may forever hate men
2. We have a single mother
3. We have a child who will grow up without his father
4. We have a child who may copy the lying and misbehaving genetics of his/her father
5. We have a child who may copy the pains of her mother against men.

Now Here is what we have due to the truth

Due to the fact that they are still dating and she asks him if he is cheating and he says yes, but apologizes

1. We have a couple who is ready to commit and solve their problems
2. We have a woman who is ready to be more than a house wife (get fat and unattractive) but be sexually attractive to ward off other girls just for her husband
3. We have a happy home
4. We have younger generation who want to copy such good behaviour

Please be careful... I made that comment because I wanted her to reply me and tell me more about the issue... Insulting a human being no matter his/her level of ignorance is way below me....

I agree that what she did was beyond unreasonable, but I kind of understand everything that led to this point... how and why she married the guy and all that stuff, but I want to hear it from her first...
