There is serious fighting going on in Anambra East LGA, between Aguleri vs Anam.

This is not Aguleri vs entire Anam. It's specifically *Amaeze village in Aguleri vs Umuoba-Anam* — two neighbouring villages with a land dispute that goes back to 1999. The land in question was said to have been given by Amaeze-Aguleri to Umuoba-Anam on trust, but now both Villages claim ownership.

The trigger for this latest round of war was Thursday Oct 1: youths from Aguleri went to erect a signpost and install CCTV cameras around Otuocha or Ogbe Hausa area which Umuoba-Anam said is a disputed land. Argument turned to shooting.

*Casualties — verified:*
- Police initially confirmed 1person dead, and several persons injured.
- By Friday Oct 3, after assessment, Anambra State Govt and traditional rulers said *5 dead in total — 3 from Aguleri, 2 from Umuoba-Anam* plus several persons hospitalized. Houses, shops, a rice processing factory with bags of rice, and a microfinance bank were burnt.

*What govt has done:*
- Deputy Gov Onyekachukwu Ibezim (who chairs State Boundary Committee) led CP Nnanna Oji Ama to the area for on-the-spot assessment.
- Otuocha Market has been ordered closed by Gov Soludo until investigation is done.
- Curfew imposed by Anambra East LGA: 6pm to 7am daily in Aguleri and Umuoba-Anam.
- Soludo has called an emergency peace meeting for Wednesday Oct 7 at Awka and ordered immediate ceasefire. Army + Police deployed.

Anambra Police PRO is *SP Tochukwu Ikenga*. He has released two statements condemning the renewed arson that happened after the deputy gov left, including burning of Ama Igwe Aguleri palace, and saying those responsible will be prosecuted.
