This is not the first time. We are used to it. But why is it that the only things we hear from them are uninspiring news such as this. Yet, when it is about the South, we hear of economic boom and prosperity? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Not surprising. South Africa has always believed that the situation with Israel and Palestine is no different from the apartheid regime they themselves experienced since 1912. 4 Likes |

I hope they are not actually thinking it is going to be easy for ceasefires to occur. This is actually the period for warring groups with limited firepower to make advances and occupy territories where covid-19 has chased people inside and govt/rebel forces to their bases or even homes. If PMB is this powerful, why not use the same "whittling down" thing to make Nigeria a force again on the African continent. See the way countries are treating us. South Africans killing Nigerians like we kill mosquitoes. Ghana demolishing our own sacred sanctum called embassy. Egypt controlling AU to front their preferred candidate for WTO leadership, etc Shame at home. Shame outside too. Poor!

I don't understand this country Politicians and other public office holders wanting their pay raised when they had the ordinary worker toil too hard before a new national minimum wage was agreed (and some states are yet to implement). What kind of misdo? I wish the review will come downwards to help reduce cost of governance. But that's just my wish. Those people have their plans already. I mean who no like better things.

AKWA IBOM STATE MINIMUM WAGE SAGA: AT LAST GOVERNMENT ACCEPTS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING, SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH LABOUR The controversy which greeted the unilateral action of the Akwa Ibom State Government's press release over the implementation of the Minimum Wage in Akwa Ibom State may finally have been laid to rest as Government today met with organized Labour to iron out grey areas of the negotiation and sign an agreement. The Head of Civil Service of Akwa Ibom State, Elder Effiong Essien had, about midnight on Tuesday, January 21, issued a Press Release indicating that the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel had approved the implementation of the new wage in the State, an action the Labour movement criticized as unilateral and a violation of the tenets of collective bargaining as enshrined in extant Labour laws. The NLC had specifically condemned the action of Government, describing the abandonment of the negotiations by the Government and subsequent issue of the Press Release as unethical. The Labour Center insisted in a press statement it made on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 that the negotiations had not been concluded to facilitate the signing of agreement by both parties therefore the Government as a party in the negotiations could on unilaterally approve the implementation of the new wage. It could be recalled had the last meeting of the Minimum Wage Committee held on 16 January, 2020 ended in a deadlock due to the inability of the parties to reach a resolution on certain thorny issues such as the salary table of workers in the Health sector, known as CONHESS, which the NLC insisted must be reviewed before an agreement for the new Minimum Wage can be signed. The signing of the agreement comes after eight months after the setting up of the Committee on Implementation of the Minimum Wage by the Government of the State in May 2019. Secretary, NLC

By Bassey Anthony, Uyo The Akwa Ibom state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has discredited the free and compulsory education programme of the state government, saying it is not holistic enough. Its Chairman Comrade Etim Etim Ukpong told reporters in Uyo that the free and compulsory education programme was only tuition-free but lacking in other key support areas. Ukpong noted that the government has failed to provide basic teaching and learning aids to public schools such that a reasonable number of pupils and students sit on bare floor due to lack tables and chairs. He also disclosed that for five terms, government has not released subventions to school heads to enable them buy chalk and carry out the day to day running of schools. According to him, government for five years has refused to release monies for science practicals and online registration of WAEC candidates, lamenting that the situation has forced most school heads to use their personal money to run the system. “We have private schools dotted all over which mean that they are in competition with public schools. You cannot rule out that one. “Teachers today face a lot of challenges. One since the free education came in all persons who ab initio did not have any hope of going to school have now come out to school. “Most of them do not have direct sponsors in terms of who buys school uniform, who buys pen and exercise books not to talk of math set which the child may never have “And government does not provide these ones but teachers need these things to teach the students. So have you seen the contradiction? “When you go to town blaming the teachers for doing this and that have also forgotten that you have refused to address these areas? “Now talking about subvention government owes school heads of primary and post-primary schools five full terms of subventions.” Ukpong also lamented that the government has not paid leave grants and promotion arrears of primary school teachers for five years. The NUT boss noted that public schools in the state were short of teachers, adding that the teacher-student ratio was a teacher to a hundred students, which is a far cry from UNESCO standard. “There are only 18,780 teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the state. There are 1,161 public primary schools and 243 public secondary schools. He urged government to stop politicising the recruitment exercise for teachers to achieve the best quality of teaching which, according to him, was at a low end at the moment. |

I have yet to read the writeup, for, it is only apologists that would think of blaming GEJ when in fact Dickson brought the fall of PDP in Bayelsa. Someone who wants to pull an Okorocha in Bayelsa but still has same level of Iberiberism, how do you not blame him when he fails! Blame goes no where please except him, DICKson. My opinion. 10 Likes 1 Share
