Elliot
“Did you turn off the lights?” Mille asked me as she gripped my shirt.
“I didn’t.” Immediately I replied, the lights came on.
“Thank goodness!” Mille breathed out.
“Now where is this guy?” I thought.
“Niel! We’re here.” Mille yelled from the living room where we stood side by side “Stop all these jokes and come out, you’re scaring me.”
“There’s no need to be scared sweetheart.” A lady emerged from behind us.
I could see Mille’s eyes open in shock as she scanned the lady from head to toe. She was wearing a black body hugging T-shirt with a pair of black trousers. As a matter of fact, everything she wore was black. Her weave was black, her make up had a lot of black , giving her a really mean look and she was a petite type of woman.
“Who are you?” Mille asked her in a shaky voice.
“Sit down baby.” She replied.
Mille scoffed. “And you expect me to take orders from a stranger in my fiancee’s house? How did you even get in.”
The strange lady reached behind her and produced a handgun, pointing it at Mille.”You may wanna shut up and have a seat Jamille. Same goes for you Elliot.”
We raised both hands above our heads as we gently allowed our rear ends make contact with the sofa.
“Not on the sofa you fools. The floor.”
Mille turned to me briefly. I just nodded and we both changed position to the floor.
“Now, that’s better.” She walked close to us. “Y’all can come out.” She said and two hefty men came out. They were dressed in black just like her and looked like wrestlers. For the first time in my life, I understood what fear really meant. I was more of a computer person. I had no knowledge or experience whatsoever in self defense.
The two men came to us and dragged us up. They searched us thoroughly, taking our phones and every property we had on us. When they were done, they cuffed us, all the while holding guns to our heads.
“Let’s go in. The boss is waiting already.” The woman said as she led the way inside. Her phone beeped and she picked it up. “Everything in place?” She asked and paused for a while. “Good.” She finally said and returned the phone to her pocket. She led us to the master bedroom.
Immediately she opened the door, Mille gasped. Jathniel was tied securely to a chair with bruises all over his face. A man was backing us, facing the window. He turned around shortly after the door was shut behind us. There were two other men in the room who had the appearance of the two that brought us in.
“Welcome Elliot.”
It was then that the whole picture suddenly became clear to me.
“Rex?”
“It’s the same old Rex man. Remove the cuffs Pixie and give him a seat, this guy is my man. He deserves some respect.” He said to the ‘black’ lady.
“What about the lady sir?”
“Get her a seat beside her fiancé. Don’t you see she’s crying already?” His voice was cool and calm but had a lot of venom in it.
“Please have mercy on us.” Mille cried as she sat beside Jathniel and got tied just as he was tied.
“Mercy?” Rex scoffed. “To me, the words ‘please’ and ‘mercy’ do not exist my dear.”
“Rex I beg you not to do this to these innocent people. I’m sure you came for me.”
“Smart as always man. Yes, I came for you. I have a little story to tell you. Should I go ahead?”
I neither replied nor looked at him.
“I’ll take your silence as a yes. Once upon a time, you escaped death by Luscious’ hand. He knew you made it through but decided to lay low. Some months ago, Luscious left the earth but guess what? He also left a small commandment. The commandment was a very very simple one; teach Elliot a lesson. The commandment happened to be the last set of words I heard him say before he died. Now, the very best part of that commandment is that he didn’t state how I should teach you that bloody lesson. Since I still have some love left for you, I narrowed my many options down to just two. Right Pixie?” He turned to the lady.
“Very correct sir.”
“And now, I’m presenting two options to you. It’s either you face a slow and painful death or you choose which of those two I should delete.” He completed the worst statement I have ever heard in my life with his index finger pointing towards Jathniel and Jamille.
“The ball is in your court Elliot.”

And for the tinkerbell issue. I kinda did that on purpose to make you respond, notice the 'ferry' instead of Fairytale?

Ah you just scrolled to check, i caught you. smiley

obviously it worked.

And I have watched peter pan too wink
I respect those writers a lot. Okay, you got me there...lolz. I actually saw the 'ferry' word but I blamed auto correct for it. You know how to catch my attention sharpily abi. Don't worry I'm planning you.

ADECULATE and queenitee COME o.

Evajael thanks for the update. Btw i dont think the name makes her or will make her want to feel like a ferrytale character, except , she is high on burnt akara grin
It's perfectly normal to be curious sha but you donno how it feels when a wonderful writer like you is curious about the work of a learner like me.
About her 'name', if you're a Tinkerbell fan like me, you'll know that pixie dust is a magic powder and according to myth, a pixie is a playful elf-like or fairy-like creature. That's why she feels like a fairytale character.
Thanks for reading and commenting Creeza, I really appreciate it

Cont’d
‘X’
Saturday afternoon came by slowly but surely. I boarded a cab to the airport to pick Boss. Before taking off, he instructed me to send a description of the cab and where it was packed andhe would locate me on his own. I did as instructed. He wasted no time in coming out of the airport.
“Welcome boss.”
“Thank you.”
“Alright, back to the hotel man.” I instructed the cab driver. The ride was a silent one. Boss never discussed plans in a vehicle. I waited patiently till we arrived the hotel. He paid for a room but didn’t go there immediately. Instead, he followed me to my room.
“I know you have a lot of questions running in your mind. I normally just give orders but I feel a strange need to tell you what’s going on and why you were chosen.” He said just as he made himself comfortable on the small couch while he scanned the whole room. I chose to remain standing by the window.
“Alright sir.”
“First of all, I chose you because of two things. The first reason was to test you and the second is because whatever you do won’t be easily traced to you or me because you’re a woman. The power of a woman in crime is still underestimated around here so it would be very easy. I’ve been training you for months to never let your emotions show on your face but I can still see a question lurking around your eyes. Go ahead and ask.”
“Sir, I…I…”
“Stop stuttering Pixie.”
I hated the name Pixie but I couldn’t protest. He was the only one who called me by that name. I wasn’t sure whether it was because of my petite nature or not but the name made me feel like some character in a fairytale.. Some members of the gang wanted to adopt it too but he barred them from doing so.
“I just want to know why you want him out of the picture. He isn’t a business rival.”
“Truly, he isn’t. I am only fulfilling a promise I made to Luscious on his death bed. He handed over his business to me, a complete stranger who he took under his wings some years back and the only thing he asked for in return was for me to teach Elliot a lesson. I have no choice but to honour that wish.”
“Yes sir.”
“Good. So I’m in a dilemma Pixie.” He walked back to the couch before continuing “Luscious’ ordered me to teach Elliot a lesson, so, it’s either I send him to his grave or I take out someone dear to him and letting him suffer the pain as long as he lives.
“Both options sound really sweet to my ears, Dragon.”
He smiled. “Me too. I have plans for both options. I think I’ll just wait a little more. I’m sure I’ll know what to do before the D-day. I’ll come here if we have anything to talk about. For now, keep following Elliot. I’ll follow his twin.”
“What about the twin’s wife to be?”
“She’s unimportant for now. I need a full report as usual for the next five days. If anybody finds out you’re following him, you know what will happen.”
“I do.”

Mille
“Baby, let me call you in five minutes. I’m sorting out my gown issues.”
“Okay.” He replied.
“This is lovely.” I turned back to the seamstress. “I never thought you could sew this wonderfully.”
“Thank you ma. Should I add more crystals to the front?”
“What do you think?”
“Ma, I think it would look nicer. I feel it’s scanty now.”
“Then go ahead. I want my husband to forget to close his mouth when he sees me walking down the aisle to meet him.”
She laughed for a while.
“I’ll get to work right away ma.”
“Sweetheart, my name is Jamille. I prefer Mille though.” I told her as I eased myself out of my gown.
I called Niel back. “I’m done dear.”
“So how’s your gown coming out?”
“Splendid. I absolutely love it and I’m sure you’ll love it too.”
“Why don’t you just let me see the gown already?”
“No na, it will spoil the fun. It’s a surprise. God bless the day I discovered this young seamstress. It looks as if I ordered it online from one of these popular designers.”
“Okay oh. Do you have plans for this evening?”
“Nope. I’m going home to relax.”
“Let’s go out then to enjoy our last Saturday as single people.”
“Niel, you never cease to amaze me. What is there to celebrate again? Our wedding is next weekend. You should rest your bones for that celebration.”
“I just want to see you. I haven’t seen you since Wednesday when we met in church.”
“Niel, I’m seriously tired. I’ve been busy since morning.”
“Eyah, sorry about that.”
“Thanks. So why don’t we make it dinner with both families tomorrow night?” I suggested.
“Mmm, sounds good to me. Let’s make it my place this time around.”
“Alright baby. I’ll just tell everyone when I get home.”
“How are you going home?”
“I’m with Jason. We came with mum’s car.”
“Did you drive?” He asked and I could feel the mockery in his voice.
“Leave me jare.” I ended the call.
“So Vicky, when should I come and pick it up?” I asked the seamstress.
“I still have some finishings to do here and there so you can come on Thursday.”
“Thursday is my traditional marriage. I won’t have the time.”
“We do deliveries here so you can drop your address.”
“Okay, that would be better.” I finished with her and went out to meet Jason in the car.
“So you stayed in here ever since then.”
“I was enjoying my time alone.”
“Okay o. Abeg let’s go home, I’m tired.”
Dinner with our families the next day went well and so did my in-house traditional marriage on Thursday. After the traditional marriage, a strange fear of something going wrong came over me. I knew that feeling too well and I was worried. Mum came to meet me in my room on Thursday evening after the event.
“Sweetie why the face?”
“Mum, I’m scared something might go wrong.” I answered her sincerely.
She smiled at me. “You’re just being nervous because your big day is coming up next tomorrow dear. Everything is gonna be fine.”
“I hope so mum.”
“I know so darling. I’m so happy my baby is getting married. The fragile Mille is all grown up now, so beautiful and loving.”
“I’ll miss you mum.”
“Me too sugar. I’ll be visiting you just like you’ll be visiting me okay?”
“Okay mum.”
“Now, the real reason I came here was to invite you downstairs. Rachel, Kara and Jason planned out something for you.”
“Really?” I raced downstairs immediately. The living room was all set for a small party.
“Mille, we should have waited to this tomorrow but we just thought it would be fun starting your party today and then capping it off tomorrow night. Congratulations sis.” Jason hugged me after his mini speech.
There were lots of hugging, pecking, eating and enjoyment in our small party that evening. It was really fun. I got a text from Niel around 7pm. The text read, “Elliot will be coming to pick you soon. Got something to show you both at our house.”
“That’s odd.” I thought. Niel had never sent Elliot to pick me but I shrugged the thought away. I had to excuse myself from the party, promising I wouldn’t take long.
Elliot did come to pick me some minutes later.
“I wonder why Niel would want us to come by this time. That area scares me at night, you know it’s a new residential area and people aren’t much around there. I don’t know how I’ll survive there.”
“Oh you’ll survive. The security is super. I told Niel to do something romantic for you before the wedding, maybe this is it. He didn’t come home after your trado.”
I smiled. “Hmm, you’re right. I can’t wait to see what it is.”
When we got there, the security opened up for us. I admired the compound once again. It was really spacious and well lit. The door to the main house wasn’t locked so we let ourselves in. Immediately we stepped in, the lights went off and my spirit nearly left my body.

Jamille
I wished it wasn’t my phone ringing. I stirred once more before I reached for the phone that was lying on my bedside drawer and picked the call without checking who was calling.
“Hello.”
“Why are you always sleeping when I call in the morning?”
“Good morning Niel.” I replied sleepily.
“Good morning baby. I need a favour.”
“I’m listening.”
“Let’s go together to the airport to pick someone. I should be at your place by 12.”
“Alright. See you later.”
I wasn’t sure if I heard him laugh or not. I didn’t even care, my sleep was too precious. The wedding preparations were really wearing me out. I switched off my phone to avoid further interruptions as I repositioned myself for another level of sleep.
Before I could zoom off to sleep, someone barged into my room. It could only be one person: Tristan. He mounted my back before I could start mourning over my lost sleep.
“Aunty Jam Jam wake up.” He shook me really hard.
“Good morning Tristan.”
“Good morning aunty. Let’s go and play.”
“Tristan, I’m still feeling sleepy.”
“No, let’s go. Let’s go.” He kept disturbing me and pulling my hair till I got up from bed. He even followed me to the bathroom when I went to brush my teeth. I went downstairs with him eventually.
“Good morning mum.” I greeted mum who was seated in the living room, reading her Bible.
“Morning baby. Don’t tell me this little man came to wake you.”
“You know your grandson well mum.”
“Tristan?” She shot him a stern look but the little boy wasn’t moved. He just kept smiling. She set him on her laps while I moved to the kitchen. I met daddy Liam , Kara and Jason there. Kara was cooking while the other two were helping themselves to some fruits. I left almost as soon as I entered since their conversation didn’t interest me. I snuck back upstairs without Tristan noticing.
I made sure to hang the “Do not disturb” sign on my room door and I locked it too. I set the alarm for 11 am.
“No, some extra thirty minutes will do me a lot of good.” I said to myself before readjusting it to 11:30am.
Satisfied, I went back to sleep to my heart’s content. For the first time in my life, I woke up immediately the alarm went off. I went in for a shower, dressed up in my yellow shirt dress. I completed the outfit with blue accessories and shoes. One final look at the mirror left me satisfied with my appearance. I stepped out of my room, my stomach was protesting already.
“Well, well, look who’s finally awake and looking gorgeous.” Jason commented immediately I stepped into the living room. They were all seated seeing a movie.
“Awwn, thank you bro. Actually, Niel and I are going out.”
Just then, we heard the honk of a car horn.
“Jeez, he’s here. I have to take my breakfast .”
I ran off to the kitchen,my food was covered as I expected. I didn’t even sit, I just hurriedly ate my jollof rice.
“You’re gonna choke if you keep doing that.”
“Niel?! Uhmm welcome.”
“Thanks babe. Relax and eat. We’ll leave whenever you’re through.”
“Okay. I actually woke up late.”
“I know you went back to sleep immediately I dropped the call.”
“Yeah. I was damn tired.”
“Me too. I slept late last night. We’ll talk about in on the way, I’ll be waiting in the living room.”
“Yes sir.”
I finally settled down to feel where my food was going. In no time, I was done and we left the house. I wished I could stay home with everybody as they were all around except Rachel. She would be coming on the week of my wedding. Jason was still waiting for a job, Kara was on break as well as Tristan.
“So, who are we going to pick?”
“Elliot.” He replied.
“Niel, be serious for once abeg.”
He chuckled. “You this woman, I’m being serious here.”
“As in Elliot is coming back?”
“Yes mi lady. My bro is on his way as we speak.”
“And you’re going to pick him with a smile on your face. Am I missing something here? The Niel I know wouldn’t even mind him.”
“I know it sounds and looks strange but yes. We talked for a very long time last night and I sort of had a change of heart.”
He downloaded the full story to me and I couldn’t shut my mouth anymore out of surprise. It sounded like one of those things that happen in movies.
“So the drug person is dead?” I finally managed to ask.
“Yeah and he’s free now.”
“I don’t… well, never mind.”
“What did you want to say?”
“It’s nothing Niel. I’m happy for him.”
“Well, we both know you’re lying so spill.”
“Okay, you got me there. Actually, I have a really bad feeling about this. What if he’s not actually dead? Or what if he’s dead like you said but he assigned someone to finish what he started?”
“ You’re so funny. I know the whole thing sounds like a movie but it isn’t. Your imaginations have really travelled dear but I’m sure something like that cannot happen.”
“If you say so. Anyway, I’m happy you both are okay now.”
“Yeah. I finally feel really good with Elliot.”
We arrived at the airport just in time. Elliot was so excited to see us. He hugged Jathniel with so much joy and I could almost swear that I saw a tear escape his eyes.
“Welcome back Elliot.” I smiled at him.
“It’s good to see you again Mille.”
“Take the front seat Elliot. You both have a lot to talk about.” I offered when we got to the car.
“Thanks Mille.”
“My pleasure.”
I remained quiet all through the drive home thinking and wishing that no harm would come to Elliot since he had decided to amend his ways.
“Mille would you like to come over to our place or should I drop you home.”
“I go for the former jare. I need to eat the rice of Elliot’s return.”
They laughed and continued with their discussion. The drama that ensued when we got over to Niel’s is a story for another day. I could write a whole novel about it. There was happiness, anger, tears and all sorts of emotions combined together there that day.

“X”
“I just got to my hotel room now sir.” I said immediately the person at the other end picked my call.
“Good. When did you say the wedding is going to hold?”
“In two weeks sir.”
“Good. Enjoy Akwa Ibom to the fullest. You’ll hear from me next weekend.”
“Thank you sir.”
“At the same time, don’t neglect your work. I assume I don’t need to go over the rules again.”
“You don’t need to sir.”
“Good. Any questions?”
“No sir.”
With that, he ended the call.
“Akwa Ibom, here I come.” I said to myself as I looked out the window of my hotel room.
For the first time, I wished my assignment didn’t have to end because I was enjoying the peace and solitude but the days were moving so fast against my will. As promised, boss called me up on the agreed day.
“How has it been?” He asked.
“Pretty simple as expected. I’m just waiting for your order sir.”
“I know. Pick me up at the airport, 2pm tomorrow.”
“Alright sir.” I almost couldn’t hide the surprise in my voice. He wasn’t supposed to come over to Uyo. It was supposed to be my job, to my glory.
At the same time, I wasn’t surprised. Since he became boss, things changed a whole lot. I would surely get the new plan soon. Although, I wasn’t happy about the change in plans, I had a feeling that with boss on the job, things were about to get colder.

Here you go:

Title - Hidden diamond

Deep in the core of our essence
Lies a yolk, pure and unsullied
Devoted to its stand;
It, like a mother brings forth life
And death in block blows
Beyond it's false pretense,
Is a gruesome genuineness
Beyond it's cloak of mischief
A hurting heart is hidden
Begs proudly to be beheld
Clamours in silence to be heard

If only it were transparent;
And has not an opaque barricade
That hides it from quick eyes
If only it would shed off the dead scales
Accumulated from many a bitter broth from life's cruel cup
You'll see it shines a glitters fine
And you'll know;
That deep in the core of our essence
Lies a hidden diamond
Devoted to it's stand
Be it ugly, good or bad
