Politics / Tinubu/osinbajo’s 2023 Ambitions: Thunder Must Not Strike The Same Place Twice – by Eventdiarylifes(f): 8:44am On Apr 13, 2022
Tinubu/Osinbajo’s 2023 Ambitions: Thunder Must Not Strike The Same Place Twice – Kayode Ajulo
Constitutional lawyer and the 11th Mayegun Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yorubaland, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, has called on Yoruba stakeholders to hold an urgent strategic conference as the march towards the 2023 presidential elections begins, albeit unofficially.
In an interview, the Abuja-based lawyer said this would be in the best interest of the southwest and the betterment of the nation at large.

He said: “It will be unfortunate for the southwest to blow this chance of a lifetime to further reposition Nigeria towards the path of progress.”

Ajulo, who made the call while reacting to recent political developments in the region, submitted that any crisis (on the selection of the best candidate from the region) may stall the southwest’s dream of producing the next President.

Emphasising that if the seeming clash of interests currently rocking the region was not quickly and carefully managed by southwest stakeholders, they may as well kiss the opportunity bye.

Ajulo, therefore, restated that it was important for Yoruba stakeholders, irrespective of political and religious affiliation, to come together and discuss the future of the region at the 2023 presidential election.

Waxing philosophical, the cerebral lawyer declared that “when history is asleep, it is memory that wakes it up, and when memory itself falls into a stupor, we invoke remembrance to kick it into active consciousness.”

He continued: “It is exactly 60 years that Yoruba witnessed the ugly crisis between two great Yoruba illustrious sons on the altar of a tussle for political leadership. The late sage and former premier of the Western Region, Chief Jeremiah Oyeniyi Obafemi Awolowo, and one of his foremost followers and last premier of the Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, (became political enemies) due to clash of interests.

“I can tell that the same scenario is gradually playing out between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his foremost loyalist, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. It is no news that these two men do not have unfriendly feelings towards each other but a lot of their followers and lackeys have started throwing bricks of words across walls, and that is certainly an invitation to crisis.”

The former National Secretary of the Labour Party, LP, said it would be bad for the region to experience the same crisis that rocked the southwest political space in 1962, adding that the opportunity of the region to produce the next President was bright and only internal crisis can abort it.

Ajulo continued: “The truth is late S. L Akintola, an orator, a teacher, a preacher of the Baptist Mission, the legal adviser of the defunct Action Group after the demise of Balogun Bode Thomas, was the “Starboy” and the pan-Nigeria face of Chief Awolowo’s group. And a lot of political pundits at that time and at present agreed that Akintola, being in a more favoured position by providence, could have seen more than his leader and same informed his stance at that time.

“By parity of reason, one cannot deny the fact that Prof. Osinbajo, an astute orator, an inspiring harmony of brawn and brains is the “Starboy” , supreme leader and the most outstanding federal face from the Southern part of Nigeria.

Undoubtedly, Osinbajo has represented this Government at different fora and definitely, would have seen more than the Asiwaju of Lagos. It is a big plus that he is part of the government at the apex level.

“Asiwaju has done well for his followers and people, and I personally acknowledge that. But I strongly believe that it will further glorify Asiwaju’s leadership to support the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the next President.”

The civil rights activist noted that the same crisis also rocked both the northern and eastern regions of the country in the ’60s, between Sir. Tafawa Balewa and Sir. Ahmadu Bello, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dr. Michael Okpara respectively. He said the leaders of these two regions effectively handled the differences in the interest of their regions and the nation at large.

“In response to the recent colloquialism, brickbats and ruptured prosodies of hired writers and opinion leaders, the words of a renowned author is quite pungent in the circumstance,” he posited.

“Thunder never strikes the same place twice. Yoruba leaders must put their personal differences aside and hold a Conference of Yoruba Stakeholders like President Olusegun Obasanjo, Alaafin of Oyo, Ọọni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi,, Alake of Egba, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, Iba Gani Adams, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Deji of Akure, Olugbon of Oke Igbon, Baba Bisi Akande, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Dr. Iyiola Omisore, present and past Governors in Yorubaland, and other stakeholders who have the interest of southwest at heart, to discuss the way forward.”

Politics / Ekiti Pdp Governorship Logjam: Suggested Solution And Way Out Of The Imbroglio. by Eventdiarylifes(f): 11:16pm On Jan 22, 2022
By a Concerned PDP member, Ekiti - State

The lingering crisis in Ekiti State over who becomes the governorship candidate in 2022 has reached a dangerous dimension for the party and it has got to a point that several theories that have been propounded by various intelligent and respected and responsible people have not yielded the expected positive results, not because the propounded theories are not good enough but because the expected fundamental reasons why the crisis festers and become intractable are not yet addressed.
Recent findings have however shown that The Party at the National level, to wit, the National Working Committee, NWC/NEC of the party needs to stand its feet by setting up the parameters and winning criteria/strategy, which must include the following fundamental decisions without being biased but must take this proactive steps to save the party from going into extinction in Ekiti, the effect of which will definitely spread across the entire South West if the APC is allowed to have another 4 years in that state.

1. Without being petty, the party hierarchy needs to privately go on its knees and beg, appeal and persuade the collegiate leaders who are aspirants to drop their aspiration in the overall interest of the party, get back to the advisory role expected of them and allow the younger elements in the party to take up the responsibility of contesting the governorship ticket among themselves in a more moderate and friendly manner.

2. The party leadership at the National should also ensure that they get a mid-way candidate that will not be an established candidate of any of the leaders to come on board, that is someone who will be acceptable to all the powerful political players whose candidacy will not rock the boat and whose emergence will not lead to apathy and antipathy activities during the election.

3. More importantly is the need for the National Headquarters to strive to be fair to the zones especially the one that has been clamouring against marginalization of their Senatorial District and the political gain such decision to use zoning to douse tension will give our party in Ekiti State in this upcoming governorship election. In other words, we as a political party must be sincere with ourselves and be bold enough to demonstrate sensitivity to the geo-political imbalance in the State by giving strong consideration to the clamour for a candidate from the South Senatorial District, which would also serve as part of the measures to counter ruling APC that has its favoured candidate from the Central.

4. The party while taking the points in paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 above into consideration must also apply wisdom by ensuring that they accommodate the interest of the leaders and the groups by reaching an accord/understanding on the sharing of the remaining elective positions and strategic appointments.
If the party takes a firm decision on these suggestions, the unnecessary battle for supremacy among the leaders would have been significantly pulled down to an acceptable level and same put under reasonable control.

If Points 1 & 2 are carried out: His Excellency, Dr. Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti Central), His Excellency, Engr. Segun Oni (Ekiti North) and Her Excellency, Senator Abiodun Olujimi (Ekiti South) would have been freed up to provide collective leadership. By allowing this top leaders of the party in Ekiti State feel safe in the hands of the incoming Executive Governor and all agreements reached appear very reliable, consequentially dependable and witnessed by those who own the party at the top, the fear of possible relegation by so so and so candidate if he emerges would have been laid to rest and the mutual suspicions among the leaders would have been erased.

Conclusively, it is our believe that with the consideration of the suggestions raised in paragraph 3 above the list of aspirants would have been reduced to just 2 from the South Senatorial District and these 2 people will be able to present the best two significant options in terms of credentials, antecedents and pedigree. The reduced number of aspirants and the feeling of having the sense of belonging by the people of the South Senatorial district will also give the party a sense of seriousness in the general view of Ekiti people who are already feeling disenchanted and wondering why there are so many aspirants if truly they want to serve the people of Ekiti state.

Finally, I am begging the leadership of PDP to please, consider these suggestions and work quickly on it as it is my considered opinion that without being biased, it will greatly help the party and give us the needed victory at the polls, especially, considering the abysmal low performance of the APC government in Ekiti State, the South West generally and in the country at large. We cannot afford not to leverage on their failed governance and take back the government from the power grabbers called the APC.

Thank you and God bless.

Politics / 2023: Counsel Tinubu To Step Down For Osinbajo, Ajulo Urges Fmr. President Babag by Eventdiarylifes(f): 9:19pm On Jan 20, 2022
An Abuja based lawyer and Coordinator, Progressive Lawyers For Osinbajo, PYO, Dr. Kayode Ajulo has called upon the Former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida to advise the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to shelve his presidential ambition for Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Ajulo, former National Secretary of Labour Party gave this advice while reacting to news of Tinubu's visit to Babangida in Minna this afternoon. He said the ex-military president who had encountered such senario is in the best position to advise the former Lagos State Governor.

"It should be recalled that President Babangida in 2007 after signifying his interest to run for the office of the President withdrew the bid for President Umaru Yar’adua on the ground that Yar’adua was his younger brother.

"Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the political leader of Prof. Osinbajo. In fact, he was a major influence on how the VP got his present position and I am sure he's proud of his numerous achievements. Asiwaju will do well to throw his weight behind the VP to become the next President". Ajulo said.
