The Oluyole Warriors would hope t overcome last week's defeat in Bauchi in their first home game as they confront the visitors from Owerri Following the disappointing start in Bauchi, Shooting Stars will bank on their home support to emerge victorious in their first home game when they come against Heartland at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan. The newly promoted side lost 2-0 to fellow returnees Wikki Tourists last Saturday no thanks to goals from Victor Yakubu that ruined the ambition of the Ibadan outfit on picking an away point. Heartland’s new goalkeeper David Obiazor though expects a tough game, but still believes his side can upset the Warriors to pick their first away points of the season. “They’ll want to take advantage of their home supporters but we’ll deny them th home win. I believe we’ve prepared adequately for the clash and I’m confident we won’t come back empty handed. “The worst result we can accept in the encounter is a draw as we can’t afford to start the league with defeat,” the ex-El- Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper said. 3SC, who have played in various pre- season competitions but lost out in the finals 3-2 to Sharks in the Ijube-Ode Gol Cup and 2-0 to Gabros FC in the NNL Super Four, will be keen to make amen before their home supporters. After having their opening game against title holders Kano Pillars postponed due to the robbery attack en-route Owerri, Heartland will be desperate for a result just as fans of 3SC will seek a confidence boost by securing a win in their first home game. As the fearless visitors look for an upset in Ibadan, both sides will remember ho the fixture two seasons ago formalized the relegation of Shooting Stars as Heartland ran away in a 2-0 win. On head-to-head, 3SC have only lost onc in their last three home meetings and twice in the last seven with Heartland's only defeat happening on M 15, 2013 when conceding two goals in th process. Franklin Howard’s men have lost four of their last seven NPFL games against two of Heartland. |

SEGUN OYEDOTUN has been appointed centre referee for today's match between Kano Pillars and Bayelsa United. He will be assisted by EMEKA UZOUKWU and IBRAHIM JIMOH. Reserve referee is ISIYAKU INDABAWA # KANBAY |
The reigning Nigeria League champions Kano Pillars are to effectively begin their title defense this afternoon as they take on Bayelsa United in one of the Match Day 2 games in the Glo Nigeria Professional Football League. Pillars could not take part in the original season opening games owing to the robbery attack suffered en- route going to Owerri for the clash against Heartland and with all the players now out of hospital save for Mohammed Gambo the Pyramid Boys are finally set to rumble. As witnessed in Aba over the last weekend, another impressive crowd turnout is anticipated at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to witness the Pillars Bayelsa duel Kano is by no means a good hunting ground for Bayelsa United who have failed to take a single point or score a goal in their last two visits to the ancient. With Gambo effectively out of this tie, off-season recruit, Christian Obiozor is expected to lead Pillars charge for goals as Coach Okey Emordi’s side are expected to be firing on all cylinders. Bayelsa United started the season on a rather not too impressive note having settled for a 1-1 draw in last weekend’s outing against Lobi Stars and with another defeat looming in Kano the team may be in for another relegation dug out fight yet again this season. |

Last year's Federation Cup finalists, Dolphins FC, have looked the most vulnerable of the four Nigerian clubs on the continent. They further underscored this when they reached the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup by the skin of their teeth against Equatorial Guinean side, Leones Vegetarianos. Dolphins sealed their passage into the first round after a 5-3 win on penalties following a 1-1 aggregate score over two legs. Players unrest over unpaid salary arrears have dogged their build-up to this game and may affect their performance as they face 12-time Tunisian league champions, Club Africain. How the Port Harcourt-based club will navigate themselves past the highly-rated Tunisian club over two legs remains to be seen starting from the first leg on Saturday in Tunis. |

Gbolahan Salami will play for Warri Wolves in the 2014/15 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season after his move to Serbian club Red Star Belgrade fell through. The striker has also been registered to play for Wolves in the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup. Moses Etu, media chief of the club, said Salami would be available for selection as the new season gets under way this weekend. “I can confirm to you that Salami will resume this weekend after discussions with the management. “I also spoke with him and he confirmed he will be available this weekend to fight for his shirt. The good thing is that we registered him for the Caf Cup assignment and he will have to fight it out with the rest of the attackers who have proven that they can fill the gap,” Etu said via a statement made available to supersport.com. Wolves have been in fine fettle this season with players like Abu Azeez, Omofoman Freedom, Oghenekaro Etebo and Osadiaye Joseph getting in on the goalscoring act in recent matches. Etu noted that the team would no longer be built around Salami who was Wolves’ most potent attacking weapon last season. “Unlike in the past, coach Aigbogun no longer build his team around one player to score, rather, he has told them anyone can score and that is what we are doing now,” he said. Salami has been capped twice for Nigeria at senior level, scoring twice for the Super Eagles. |
Warri Wolves attacking midfielder Ikechukwu Ibenegbu has said his side will complete the job in Warri against the Ethiopian opponents, Dedebit FC. The Seasiders will host the East African side in the first leg second round of the Caf Confederation Cup clash on Saturday at the Warri Township Stadium. Ibenegbu claimed that his side know very little of the Ethiopian foes but insisted that his side are capable of taking any opponents to the cleaners. “We just want to get the job completely done in Warri. Nigeria then head off to Addis Ababa for a formality match. “That’s how we want to go about the Saturday’s Confederation Cup clash against Dedebit FC. “We know very little about the Ethiopian side, at least, we’re aware they’ve about five of their players in the national team. “Warri Wolves, too equally have a sizeable number of national team players in their midst who can match any opponents in the world. “That’s not to say we’re going to underrate the visitors though but we’re determined to win convincingly right here at our backyard in order to make the reverse fixture quite easy. “I’ve already shaken off the fatigue as a result of the Supersand Eagles campaign in the eight-team invitational tournament in Durban, South Africa and training perfectly well for the clash same as my teammates. “The team spirit is quite high and we’re positive to get everything right on Saturday,” said the Nigerian playmaker to supersport.com. The reverse fixture is expected to be held at the 35,000 seats Addis Ababa stadium on the weekend of April 3-5 |
Warri Wolves head coach, Paul Aigbogun believes his alliance with the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger will help the club defeat Ethiopian side, Dedebit FC in this year’s Caf Confederation Cup. Both sides go toe to toe in the first leg of their first round contest at the Warri City Stadium on Saturday and Aigbogun is looking forward to a positive result. The trainer is back from the United Kingdom, where he was made to undergo a “special training” alongside Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials, ex- coaches and former internationals. “I was in the UK for eight days and I learnt a lot there. I met the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger and we shared notes on football. “Wenger opened my eyes to the modern innovations of the game which includes football philosophy and the use of technology, and professionally running a club. "I also met the gentleman in charge of match analysis at English championship club, Derby County. “I am sure these experiences will help me, not only this weekend against the Ethiopian club, but for the rest of my coaching career,” Aigbogun told supersport.com. Wolves reached this stage of the Confederation Cup after overcoming RC Bobo Dioulasso 4-0 on aggregate. Aigbogun is however expecting a tougher challenge against Dedebit FC. “We knew, even before our second leg (preliminary round game against RC Bobo Dioulasso) that we would play them (Dedebit FC), so we started doing our homework on them a long time ago. “The good thing is that all our players are available and are available for selection,” he said. |
