WhatsApp will share its users' personal information, including phone numbers, IP addresses, contacts, & more with Facebook from Feb. 8, according to the new T&Cs. No opt-out. The only way to object is to leave the service & move to a service like Signal or Telegram.

hmmm i intend to switch to software engineering. dont you think the theoretical aspect as as the practical aspect is important. Plus you made mention of "toy project" in your post does it mean software engineering isn't worth studying.
Let me explain why what we "learn" about software engineering in undergrad is ALMOST, useless.

Even when professors try to make Software Engineering classes more practical by applying active approaches, e.g. simulating a software development team with the students, it is still doomed to fail. This is basically because the environment is so artificial that the incentives are almost the opposite of what happens in a real scenario.

A soft. team of students in a Software Engineering class aiming to develop a project is a mix of:
1. distributed team
2. low allocation members
3. lack of experienced leaders
4. lack of someone that puts money wanting ROI
5. artificial timeframes
6. lack of money compensation to the team members

1. distributed team
Needless to say that distributed teams are very hard to coordinate even in real soft. projects. when we mix it with item 2 and 3 (low allocation members and lack of experienced leaders), we have the recipe of failure.

2. low allocation members
students have to reconcile the SE class project with activities of many other disciplines. they are far from full time, or even part time dedicated to the project.

3. lack of experienced leaders
in a real soft. project (at least the ones who have chance of achieve their goals) the teams are NOT composed by interns only. there are members with diverse levels of experience, with very experienced leaders guiding the project.

4. lack of someone that puts money wanting ROI
in a real project, a client or an investor put money to pay for the project and for sure will put pressure to have a return on the investment. if a SE class project fail, nobody suffers too much due to this. so, who cares?

5. artificial timeframes
projects' sprints and scope have to be artificially short to accommodate in the semester. needless to say that no good thing can emerge with such kind of artificial restrictions.

6. lack of money compensation to the team members
if the students don't deliver the soft., they will not lose their jobs, have a salary cut, lose a promotion, or suffer any damage to their reputation as professionals. again, who cares?

After all that, one could argue that the goal with a Software Engineering class is NOT necessarily deliver a working software, but instead just to learn the concepts of Software Engineering that once applied will support devs on developing a successful software project.

In the end, the usefulness of SE classes seems to hold only when students, once becoming pros, face a problem in a real project and hopefully remember some keywords related to that problem, so that helps guiding them in studying techniques to finally make that knowledge alive.

Cheers xD.

Pls what do you mean by this?
One should not be taught in the University (best learnt by self study). One can not be taught in the University (best learnt on a real life project). Only one of them is (should be) taught in the University.

Most people who play down on the importance of CS degree don't have one.

Most CS degree gate keepers are people with CS degrees.

At least, FAANG companies have established the fact that what's important is your ability to learn.
The post isn't terribly controversial, and I didn't down play the importance of a CS degree. But while new students might not realize this, "computer science" does not teach how to code. Instead, it teaches lots of useful information that coders might need, like O(n) or OS fundamentals.

You can't really teach how to program any more than you can teach somebody how to play basketball. Sure, you can instruct them on some basics, but ultimately, it requires personal effort and practice. If you want to become a professional basketball player, then you have to spend time on the court almost every day practicing until you get good. If you want to become a professional programmer, then the same.

It's not just personal effort. You have to play with other players, learning from them, all the little things. Likewise, if you want to learn programming, you really need other people to bounce ideas off of. I suppose getting mentored would help. But really, talking to people at your own level is where you'll get the most benefit. Then again, mentoring those below your level, getting challenged by unexpected questions, may help more than getting mentored yourself.

OP have finally said it all cool cool

My own input best way to be a programmer

1. Hangout with people that are programmer, just always stay where they hangout

2. Practice.. I say practice don't get stuck in the reading loop cool cool
Well said.

Programming / Should You Study Computer Science To Learn How To Code? by EvilSec: 4:02pm On Dec 31, 2020
Many computer science students choose the major expecting to learn how to code and are shocked to find that that’s not what it is. So what’s actually involved in a CS major and why is it useful?

CS teaches reasoning about computing:
– what can and can’t be done by computers
– how to get computers to do things efficiently
– breaking down complex problems so they can be tackled by computers
– managing layers of complexity
– what is the role of computing in our society
etc.
To learn to code, the best route is self study rather than CS or any other major. There’s probably no other skill for which there is so much freely available high-quality learning material online. Be wary of coding bootcamps: most of them haven’t lived up to their promises. Even for students majoring in CS, it takes self study to learn to code fluently. Traditionally, this put students with no prior programming experience at a big disadvantage. So CS programs have recently been increasing the emphasis on coding within or alongside the curriculum. In short, CS is a much more abstract set of skills than coding. Not everyone needs it, but it’s extremely helpful for developing algorithms, making long-term decisions about computing technology, or simply to more deeply understand the digital world.
Software engineering isn't the same as either coding or CS. Universities aren’t set up to teach it because they are limited to toy projects that end when the course ends. The only way to learn to wrangle a million-line codebase with hundreds of contributors is to actually do it.

@EvilSec could you spare me a little bit of your time... Please
The deep web is a subset of the Internet that is not indexed by the major search engines. This means that you have to visit those places directly instead of being able to search for them. The Dark Web is a subset of the Deep Web that is not only not indexed, but that also requires something special to be able to access it, e.g., specific proxying software or authentication to gain access. The Dark Web often sits on top of additional sub-networks, such as Tor, I2P, and Freenet, and is often associated with criminal activity of various degrees, including buying and selling drugs, pornography, gambling, etc.

To access it, download the Tor Browser Bundle, or anonsurf "linux" and move from there.

P.S. In the past, I once made a full on detailed post about the dark web, how to access it and all the crazy shenanigans going on there but it got me banned.
This means I can't really go into too much details. Cheers xD

Using a different password for every website you know only makes your life more complicated...there is no way you will be able to remember all of them undecided
What is important is that you don't reuse passwords for sites you care about. I have one password for all the sites I don't care about, but my email and banking passwords are unique and complex. I also have 2FA enabled.

You're right, but then again the answer also depends on a couple of factors: your goal, knowledge, and time. Do you want to get a job as an AI engineer? Want to pursue academia? Want to study it as a hobby? This changes the answer drastically.

For instance, if you intend to learn AI for getting a job, you'll have to focus on obtaining practical experience. However, if you want to learn as a part of academics, you'll need to concentrate more on the theoretical aspects.

My bit - If you want to apply machine learning and AI techniques to a problem, you don’t necessarily need an in-depth understanding of the math to get a good result. Libraries such as TensorFlow and PyTorch allows someone with a bit of Python experience to build state of the art models whilst the math is taken care of behind the scenes.

If you’re looking to get deep into AI research, through means of a PhD program or something similar, having an in-depth knowledge of the math is paramount.

It seems the site you found it on scraped or bought the details for marketing purposes. The crazy part is, it was scraped/bought by a bank to send targeted advertisement to those email addresses.
