patrickmuf: When Messi was asked to first win an international competition before he could lay claim to the title of G.O.A.T., what international competition was being referred to? The only ones he can participate in away from the World cup is the Copa which for some weird reason is now trash...The others are of the junior category which he played and won (U-20 and Olympics)...
Since you are saying Brazil doesn't give a damn about the Copa, can we then start rating the Olympics because prior to when Neymar led them to their first and only Olympic title, they have always assembled their best available team for the Olympics...
Even in Nigeria, the mention of Atlanta 96 comes with some form of nostalgic feeling...
I am certain if Portugal wins the Olympics with Ronaldo starring, we won't hear the last of it for days running to weeks and months...
Braithwaite should stay on. His performance at Euro has shown he still have a few stuffs left. Or maybe can cash in joor. If they are serious, someone from premier league can pay up to 40million euros for him.
We have plenty young boys coming in from La Masia and Ansu Fati is also returning.
That's true, Umtiti.
For Braithwaite, we should use his EURO's performance to cash out sharply.
jpmoriarti: The Griezmann/Saul swap is exactly what we need to do in Barca current economic condition.
Shift Griezmann’s enormous wages, which gives the club the salary gap to resign Messi, and add a reliable and hard working midfielder in Saul at the same time.
CAPdan21: There's no sport where their athlete get criticized but there's criticism and there's also criticism... I've seen matches where utd lost and rashford even performed more than their other key players but he keeps being repeatedly singled out for insults cuz of his skin..the cases of ozil and morata still exist but they are isolated cases compared to majority of insult aimed at black people...just look at the case of balotelli, even when he performed for Italy was still being insulted...lastly, I don't want to reply that clown but imagine stanning a player like havertz who flopped for Chelsea but complaining that rashford who scored 21 goals for utd was using the colour of his skin to avoid criticism...just imagine if havertz was black and he dropped some of those performances for Chelsea last season..
Kilishihunter: Well you're right though, his flopping at bayern is still to be remembered, No cash sef , Expert17 abeg make una beg ole make him come buy griezmann na If I beg obonu, him go use vex tell am say na Fati or Pedri I talk
Illimitable: He couldn’t - look at the direction of his planted foot. You can try it at home. The direction you pick would be revealed by your planted foot.
He can, but might miss just like Rashford.
Players are aware of the planted foot rule, so they use it sometimes to deceive goalkeepers.
That was why Rashford missed. If you try to cheat nature by going the direction of the planted foot, you would lose shot power and accuracy. It’s a very difficult skill to attempt. You could even kick your own foot and slip like John Terry in 2008 CL final.
True.
That is why I recommend following the note, any change of style/run-up/placement from the player might result in him missing.
raumdeuter: See Belottis wasnt even much of a guess dive, Pickfords right foot didnt leave the spot he planted he he just bent to the left, it wasnt like Belotti picked an extreme angle like Jorginho or Rashford and its still within
Most shooters won't go to those far angles
Pure guess dive.
You don't have to leave the spot before diving if you are targeting inside left/right and not extreme left/right.
Illimitable: Expert17, so what will your GK coach note say here?
As for taking penalties, I don’t think players should be too cute or overthink it. If they pick a spot and take a fierce shot, the possibility of a goalkeeper saving it even if he dives in the right direction is very slim. The ball would have breezed into the net before he makes a dive.
Rashidi Yekini has the best technique for penalties as far as I am concerned. All those hopping techniques of Bruno Fernandes and Jorginho would soon be found out. Pickford humiliated Jorginho in that shootout and that could have cost Italy the win.
raumdeuter: When you are trying to sell the keeper bad and leave him no chance, the chance is that you want to pick an extreme side and that opens the window of missing or hitting the post. If it enters nothing you can do
Good point with the Fernandes penalties. I also checked other players too and none has a specific way of shooting or angle, If they do, then they are fools and anyone will stop their penalty
Below is Ramos'
Guys, this is easy.
Just like you stated, nothing is certain.
We work with what we have, STATISTICS
For example: If Kane plays 50 % of his penalties to the left, 15 % to the right, and 35 % straight down the middle.
raumdeuter: I wanted to raise a point about those penalties. Most top players dont have a specific way of playing penalties. for example, Most of us have seen Ronaldo take penalties, Can you tell his favourite way?
This is hard, but I would guess dive to my extreme left.
Watch these penalties again, without the guess dive Pickford will save Bernardeschi, Also most of the Jorginho penalties would be saved because with that stutter step, he cannot gather enough power in the shot like Maguire so his penalties will be weak and he has to place it at a corner to have a chance
Illimitable: Rashford overcooked his penalty - he was so unlucky to have missed it. What he did to Donnarumma was filthy. The hip deception was heavenly.
You are absolutely spot on with top players not having a constant method of taking their penalties. They change it cos they have a variety of options in their ammo to take one.
This is Fernandes’ shot map on penalties. What will a GK coach note say about this? Dive left or right?
This one no follow, Jorginho and Fernandes style is different.
Illimitable: 10 excellent penalties. Go and watch them again. Even their GK’s pen is better than anything Italy offered in the final. They were hooking it in the top bins.
Different opponents, different stakes. Pickford wouldn’t have saved any in Europa final and United would have certainly lost the 2nd leg against Roma if Pickford or Henderson was in goal.
Pickford would have saved at least 3 penalties.
Unai Simon benched the flop at EUROs
And when you look at the previous shots taken by penalty takers, you see their shots scattered all over the net. There has never been a penalty taker that concentrates on one spot. Therefore, even the GK coach note is a guess at best. It’s not set in stone.
Watch where those players play their penalties when it mattered most.
Illimitable: Let them win it at Man Utd. I hate when players cut corners to glory. If Maguire/Shaw had won the Euros, they would have been difficult to replace or sell.
Each time Maguire touch the ball in the PL, they would always attach European champion to his name. Who has time for such crap?
This is the best outcome for every football fan in the world.
