The walkway through Umbrella Park in Doha, built to connect the seaside corniche and the post office, helps keep pedestrians out of the hot sun. The walkway uses umbrellas and plants to create a more tolerable atmosphere for pedestrians. Solar panels dot the rooftops around a large air-conditioning building in heart of the Msheireb neighborhood. Cobblestone walkways at the Galeries Lafayette outdoor mall are equipped with air conditioning vents to cool shoppers as they browse. The neighborhood’s new Metro station is also air-conditioned. The Msheireb is designed to take advantage of breezes and features sun-blocking canopies.

Roads in Qatar's capital, Doha, have been painted blue because the colour absorbs less heat than black tarmac so the surface remains cooler for longer. Engineer Saad Al-Dosari said: 'The temperatures of dark asphalt is 20 degrees Celsius higher than the actual temperature because black attracts and radiates heat’

One of the hottest countries on Earth is installing air conditioning outdoors and painting roads blue in a bid to keep cool. Temperatures in summer now reach a sweltering 115°F (46°C) in Qatar, where the 2022 World Cup has already been moved to winter to avoid the searing heat. Last year the tiny Gulf state began using air-conditioning in its football stadiums to keep fans and players cool. But now giant coolers have been installed alongside pavements and in outdoor shopping malls so the temperatures are bearable for people going about their everyday lives. And in Doha, the country’s capital, the Public Works Authority has painted the Abdullah Bin Jassim Street near one the city’s biggest souq markets the colour blue to reduce the temperature of the asphalt by 59-68°F degrees. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7588593/amp/Qatar-hot-capital-city-air-conditioning-OUTDOORS.html

Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a 'huge cache' of vividly painted wooden coffins near the ancient city of Luxor which 'may have belonged to high priests’. At least 20 well-preserved coffins have been found 'just as the ancient Egyptians left them', in the ancient town of West Thebes. Experts claimed that the coffins may date back to the third intermediate period which began with the death of Pharaoh Ramesses XI in 1070 BC, which would make the coffins around 3,000 years old. The Egyptian government made the announcement but has not yet revealed details of the discovery, instead releasing a series of photos which show the Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, Khaled el-Anan inspecting the findings. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7577157/amp/Archaeologists-unearth-20-preserved-wooden-coffins-Egypt.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

In North Korea’s state mythology, the 9000ft Mount Paektu is supposed to be the spiritual home of the Kim dynasty and the birthplace of Kim Jong Un’s father. The mountain is also considered a sacred mountain laden with symbolism, the mythical birthplace of the Koreans, a place where soldiers are sent on pilgrimages to swear loyalty to their leader. Experts speculated that the dictator’s trip up Mount Paektu could signal a major announcement, amid faltering nuclear diplomacy with the United States. His officials were also spotted with him during the climbing.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was shown riding a white horse in the snow on a sacred mountain, in several photographs released by state media Wednesday that experts said could presage a major announcement. “His horseback march in Mount Paektu is a great event of weighty importance in the history of the Korean revolution,” the Korean Central News Agency reported. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/kim-jong-un-rides-white-horse-on-sacred-mountain--and-plans-great-operation/2019/10/16/30931cc2-efe6-11e9-bb7e-d2026ee0c199_story.html

Jennifer Salfen-Tracy wrote a heartfelt message on Facebook telling of her son's drug problems and showing the stark contrast between him before and after his slide into addiction. Bishop was an athlete who graduated from Wentzville Holt High School, Missouri before suffering from drug addiction. He is pictured (below) in March.

A mother has shared heartbreaking pictures of her son showing how he became emaciated and gaunt after spiraling into drug addiction. Jennifer Salfen-Tracy posted before and after images of Cody Bishop taken just seven months apart. In the first image he is pictured looking athletic and fresh-faced, but in the second image Bishop's face appears more gaunt and his emaciated body looks much thinner, with track marks from intravenous injecting clearly visible along his lower arms. The 26-year-old, who previously played high school sports, is almost unrecognizable. His mother described him as the 'face of heroin and meth' in her viral post on Wednesday. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7562505/amp/Mothers-photos-son-taken-months-apart-reveal-horrific-toll-heroin-meth-addiction.html Lalasticlala Mynd44

Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue (pictured), the son of the Equatorial Guinea's four-decade president, Teodoro Obiang, was probed over money laundering and mismanagement of public assets, which led to the seizure of the luxury fleet of cars. Equatorial Guinea president's son, who is also a vice president, has been ensnared in legal trouble elsewhere. Last year, Brazilian officials said $16 million (£13 million) in undeclared cash and luxury watches that were seized from a delegation he led may have been part of an effort to launder money embezzled from the country's government.
|
When Swiss authorities seized the cars, they also ordered the sequestration of a yacht. However, it was later released in an arrangement under which Equatorial Guinea agreed to pay Geneva authorities £1.1 million 'notably to cover procedural costs'. Pictured(1&2). A white-and-cream Lamborghini Veneno roadster, one of only nine such versions produced, was the star of the auction. Having been driven only 325 kilometers (201 miles). Iwas expected to fetch at least £4.3 million.
