Soldiers, including a special military mountain unit, were called in to assist rescue efforts and had freed thousands of vehicles by Saturday morning, though thousands more were still stuck in the area. Umar Maqbool, a local administrator, said the heavy snowfall hampered rescue efforts during the night and even heavy equipment brought in to clear the snow got stuck initially. 'Until the military arrived, no vehicle or even people on foot are allowed to enter Murree except for the emergency and rescue vehicles and those bringing food for the stuck people,' interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said.

At least 22 people including 10 children have died after a heavy snow storm left 100s of cars stranded in a mountain resort town in Pakistan. Eight of the fatalities were from the family of Islamabad police officer Naveed Iqbal, who died alongside his wife and six children. Police said most people had frozen to death in their cars but that others may have died from asphyxiation after turning on their vehicle's heaters to keep warm after getting stuck on the road. More than four feet of snow fell in the hillside town overnight on Friday, trapping tourists and blocking all incoming traffic to Murree, around 70km northeast of the capital Islamabad, the next day. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10381461/At-21-die-vehicles-trapped-Pakistan-snowstorm.html

remsonik:You should say several centuries ago. A bag of cement = 50kg. 20 bags of cement = 1ton In 1,200tons, you will have like 24,000 bags of cement. A man to a bag of cement (50kg) = 24,000 men. But some men are strong to lift up to 2-4 bags of cement alone. Atleast they'll need 5,000 - 10,000 men to lift that pillar even with their techniques. |

Tourists are seen at the site. The cracks can be seen.

Obelisk erected in front of ancient temples in Egypt.

3,500 years old scooping/drilling/chisel marks still appear on the sides of the pillar. But the marks are so perfect and straight. Looks like a high tech equipment.

During construction, the structure cited a flaw, large crack appeared when breaking it free from its parent body. The workers in all their disappointment abandoned the structure which was not detached from the parent rock. In those days’ craftsman carved monuments directly from the mother rock. Masons used round stone boulders to smoothen the jutting edges. These round boulders are seen lying scattered in the site of the Obelisk. It is believed that Hatshepsut, queen of king Tuthmosis II ordered the building of this monument almost 3,500 years ago. She wanted the obelisk to be placed in front of the Karnak Temple in Luxor. King Thutmose III tried to restore the obelisk without success. Is the largest and heaviest Obelisk ever constructed.

The Unfinished Obelisk Aswan in Egypt is known for its granite. The pyramids and numerous temples in Aswan (like Abu Simbel Temple, Kom Ombo Temple) and other parts of the country were built by the granite supplied from Aswan. The Unfinished Obelisk lying in the rock mountain of red granite offers insight into the procurement of these rocks and a very brief idea of their construction method. The Obelisk as it lies today is a 42meters long monolith whose three sides can be seen. The structure is without any inscriptions and weighs around 1,200tons. It is the single heaviest obelisk in Egypt. https://www.agatetravel.com/egypt/aswan/unfinished-obelisk.html

The Umm Jirsan lava tube, located in the desert region of Haret Bani Rashid, in eastern Khaybar, is believed to be one of several lava tubes in the area, caves that were formed within a lava from a nearby volcano thousands of years ago.

The team further investigated one chamber they refer to as the 'Wolf Den' due to the massive amount of bones found inside. A total of 1,917 bones and teeth were collected from the tens of thousands of bones inside the den for further investigation and 1,073 of them were identifiable to a specific skeletal element. Approximately 13 samples selected for radiocarbon dating, which showed some bones were 6,839 years old. 'Forty-two percent of the bone has evidence for carnivore processing, which includes gnaw marks, gastric etching, and rounding from licking. Gnaw marks take the form of tooth pits,' according to the study. The giant hyenas are believed to have transported the entire body of smaller animals to the cave, while larger animals were ripped to pieces and only nutritional limbs were brought back to the lava tube. The human remains uncovered inside the Wolf Den were skulls.
