Members of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Abeokuta, yesterday [Feb. 21], arrested a Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor for allegedly raping a 12-year recent maidservant.

According Newsmen, the pastor, who was an interpreter with the church committed the crime in his home at 6, Shamusideen, Oke-Sokori area of the city while his woman was away.

ANOTHER tragedy struck on Tuesday morning in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when a middle-aged man, identified as Goodluck Amehule, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex on Aba Road.

Though no one could ascertain what prompted Amehule to his action, an eyewitness, Florence Harry, said it happened at about 8.30 a.m.

According to her, the deceased removed his shoes, jumped off and died instantly.

It was further gathered that by the time officials of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital annex within the secretariat complex arrived at the scene, he had died.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is battling an onset of Parkinson’s disease that has complicated her recovery from a surgical procedure in Germany, several reliable sources have disclosed.

Worshippers of the World Liberation Ministry located along old Sapele-Benin express road on Tuesday took to their heels during a prophesy programme when a female member delivered a horse.



The horse was however dead by the time Journalists visited the church.

It was gathered that the woman whose identity was not yet known started screaming during the prayer session and began to bleed from the vagina before the horse came out.

The General Overseer of the church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said he was still amazed at what came out of the woman.

He told Journalists that during prayers a revelation came that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb.

Silva said as prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.

The cleric said he couldn’t confirm whether the horse was dead or alive because he didn’t go near it.

“I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.

If Ijaw people should retaliate, every household in the North will cry. It is the North that needs peace more than us.

Everybody must impress it on them that they should shield their sword. GEJ must convey a SNC. If I were GEJ, I will roll out tanks to Maiduguri when they declared that everybody must become a Muslim. It is only a SNC that will solve the problem. The solution to the Boko Haram crisis is to dissolve the government and invoke a SNC. But we are not saying Goodluck Jonathan has tried. He has failed. What is Godson Orubebe still doing in the federal cabinet. A time will come if he doesn't change, our people will say, Goodluck, you are on your own. He has every power and every moral authority to convey a Sovereign National Conference. He must correct the 55 years injustice on us.

I want to be fair to IBB and Buhari on the Boko Haram crisis. They have nothing to do and cannot do anything about it. But the fact remains that the political elite of which IBB & Buhari belongs have not been able to address the problem of Boko Haram. They cannot do anything because nobody wants to commit suicide.

Gunmen Kill 16 Worshippers In Okene Deeper Life Bible Church

It was a bloody night in Kogi State yesterday as unknown gunmen stormed the Deeper Life Bible Church, Otite, near Okene, in the central axis of the state, killing 16 worshippers.

Sources gathered that members of the church were attending its weekly Monday Bible study service when the hoodlums stormed the place.

The gunmen, numbering about 10, who were said to have invaded the church in a Toyota Hiace bus, started firing sporadically.

Motorists plying the highway connecting the northern and southern part of the country as well as students of the Federal College of Education, Okene, which is a stone throw from the venue of the incident, had to take cover to avoid running into the gunmen.

The worshippers could not escape immediately as the gunmen blocked the entrance of the church.

Some worshipers were able to escape during the attack which lasted about 20 minutes, even as nine others who received serious injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The commissioner of police, Kogi State command, Mr. Muhammadu Katsina, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

He said the gunmen entered the Deeper Life Church and switched off the generating set in the church before opening fire on the worshippers.

The police boss, who spoke while on his way to Otite, also confirmed the number of casualties, even as he promised to give details of the incident later, after visiting the place.

Boko Haram Tells Jonathan Embrace Islam Or Resign

Boko Haram, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to embrace Islam or resign from office. However, the president, on Sunday, dismissed the demand as laughable and a blackmail.

The call was contained in a Youtube video released on Saturday, showing the leader of the sect, Mallam Abubakar Shekau, also criticising President Barack Obama of the United States of America (USA) over the classification of the sect leaders as terrorists, which could lead to the seizure of his assets in the US.

“I call on you President Goodluck Jonathan, you should abandon this ungodly power, you should repent and forsake Christianity, including Obama, who said I have business interests in the United States,” Shekau said in the Hausa language video.

In a reaction to the position, the president, speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, in Abuja, on Sunday, said the demand amounted to blackmail which he would never succumb to.

President Jonathan, according to his media aide, would not resign, based on the mandate given to him by Nigerians in the 2011 presidential poll.

He observed that it was, therefore, laughable for any group in the country to make such demand, moreso as the president, a Christian, was elected by both Muslims and Christians.

Suicide Bomber Blows Police Stations Leaving Two Officers Dead

Suicide bombings at two police stations Monday killed at least two persons in the northwestern Nigerian city of Sokoto, the historic seat of Islam in the country, officials and residents said.

Separately, police guarding a home belonging to Vice President Namadi Sambo came under fire from gunmen in the northern city of Zaria, leaving one civilian dead. No one lives at the house, which is undergoing repairs from damage inflicted in post-election riots last year.

Boko Haram Islamists, responsible for scores of deadly gun and bomb attacks in recent months, are suspected of having hideouts in Sokoto, but the group has rarely struck within the city.

A Red Cross official said the explosions at the Yan Marina police station in the city centre and the Unguwar Rogo station were both caused by suicide bombers.

“A policeman and woman were killed in the bombings. Thirty people were injured, mostly around the market in the Yan Marina neighbourhood,” said the official who requested anonymity.

Yan Marina resident Usman Bube said the area was “engulfed in flames”.

“There was a huge explosion about an hour ago at the police station that was followed by thick smoke,” Bube told AFP. “It is so chaotic now, with people running to safety.”

A senior police officer, who did not want to be identified, said the bomber approached the station in a vehicle packed with explosives and was denied entry at the security gate, where the vehicle then blew up.

Lawai Danfili, who lives near the Unguwar Rogo station, said residents raced into their homes following the attacks.

We had a loud explosion around the police station. The impact of the explosion shook houses in the area. We all moved indoors, he said.

While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Boko Haram has repeatedly targeted police across northern Nigeria, where most of its attacks have been carried out. The city is home to Nigeria’s top Islamic leader, Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, the current Sultan of Sokoto.

The radical Islamist group has long stated its loathing for Nigeria’s traditional Muslim leaders, saying they have betrayed the faith by subjecting themselves to the country’s secular government.

Boko Haram has said it wants to create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, where, in the pre-colonial era, there was a powerful Islamic empire headquartered in Sokoto.

Suicide bomber kills top MP, 16 others at wedding

Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan (AFP) – A suicide bomber killed a prominent Afghan lawmaker and 16 other people at his daughter’s wedding party in the north of the country on Saturday, officials said.

The attacker embraced MP Ahmad Khan, a former militia commander, in front of wedding guests before detonating the explosives strapped around his waist, a security forces spokesman said.

President Hamid Karzai’s office said in a statement 17 people were killed and around 43 wounded, revising an earlier statement that said 23 were killed in the attack in Aybak, capital of normally peaceful Samangan province.

“Latest reports indicate that 17 people were killed and about 43 others were wounded,” the statement said.

Provincial intelligence chief Mohammad Khan was among those killed at the celebration attended by other high-ranking government officials.

The statement blamed the “terrorist” attack on the “enemies of Afghanistan”, a term used by Afghan officials to refer to the Taliban.

Karzai also appointed a delegation to investigate the attack.

An ethnic Uzbek, Khan was a militia commander during the decades of conflict in Afghanistan, when his forces held sway in the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Zabiullah Mujahid, a purported Taliban spokesman, told AFP that he was “unaware” of an attack by the militant group in northern Afghanistan.

Witnesses at the scene told AFP the windows of the two storey wedding hall were shattered and blood-stained turbans, shoes and clothes could been seen around the hall.

The attacker apparently disguised himself as a guest and blew himself up at the entrance of the hall, where high-ranking local officials were welcoming guests.

Northern Afghanistan is relatively peaceful but suffers sporadic violence.

The attack in Samangan suggests an emboldened Taliban insurgency spreading to the north from the south and east, where they traditionally hold sway.

But the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), a key ally of Al-Qaeda, is also active in Afghanistan’s northern provinces.

In March, Afghan and international forces killed Makhdum Nusrat, a senior IMU leader in Afghanistan, in Faryab province, to the west of Samangan. The following month a suicide attack in Faryab killed 12 people, mostly civilians.

Last year, a Taliban suicide attack killed General Daud Daud, a regional police commander and once Afghanistan’s most powerful anti-drug czar, in Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province, also in the north.

The wedding attack came the day after a provincial women’s affairs official in Laghman, east of Kabul, was killed and her husband and daughter critically wounded when a magnetic bomb attached to her vehicle exploded, police said.

Laghman provincial government spokesman Sarhadi Zwak blamed Taliban insurgents for that attack.

Deputy Governor and Shehu of Borno escape bomb attack

A suicide bomber blew himself up near the Maiduguri Central Mosque in the capital city of Borno State, killing himself and at least five others.

It was gathered that among the dignitaries that were observing Friday prayers at the mosque were Deputy Governor Zannah Mustaphar and the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Kyari. Both men were evacuated alive after the attack. It is not yet clear if any was injured.

Several other people were injured in the attack, and have been taken to nearby hospitals.

Witnesses said a boy of about the age of 15 was noticed walking towards the two dignitaries as they exited the mosque after the prayers.

Security aides were said to be suspicious of the manner in which the boy approached the two men, and tried to apprehend him, while shielding the VIPs.

At that moment, the bomb was detonated. Security officials said five people have been confirmed dead so far in the blast, with two soldiers among the critically wounded.

A Couple nabbed for kidnapping

Husband and wife suspected to be serial kidnappers of international dimension has been nabbed by the men of Lagos State Police command. Mr. Nwangwu Emmanuel and his wife Beatricial Nwangwu were arrested recently by the operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) after a long search.
The suspected evil couple according to police source, were arrested in Abuja where the husband was working as a driver to a retired military officer. Before their arrest, the couple had thrown several families into trauma, pains and tears by kidnapping their children and carried them across the border to Ghana where they demanded and received ransoms in millions of naira.

Before the police made what was been described as a major breakthrough in the quest to unravel the mystery behind several incidents of unreported cases of kidnapping in the state, the couple had earlier been declared wanted by the Interpol, Force CID, Abuja, Lagos State command, SARS, Zone 2 and Lagos.

Speaking on the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko who described the couple as notorious noted that most of their victims were children of the families where the wife had served as housemaid.

He explained that after kidnapping the children they would run to Ghana and start demanding for ransom running into several millions from their victims. “ They would tell the victims to pay ransom to a bank account in Ghana and they would later instruct them to collect their children at a particular hotel in Ghana.”

CP Manko said some policemen in Ghana were dismissed from their job because they collected some illegal money from the couple. The police in Ghana later declared the couple wanted for using their country as a country of collecting ransom from victims of the kidnappers. The police in Ghana was also said to have frozen the account of the suspects Manko added that it was a female DPO who got the number of the suspects and that it was after that, that he tasked the SARS to go to Abuja and arrest the suspects .

The husband told his story to Crimewatch “I am from Enugu State and I grew up in Ghana where I stayed for ten years. In 2008, I was employed by Mrs Folake Coker in Ikoyi Lagos and I was being paid the monthly salary of N25,000. One day I deceived one of the house maids to buy something for me pretending to be sick. Then I used the opportunity to kidnap the 2years old daughter of my boss. quickly took a cab to Mile 2 before taking a drop to Ghana.

“ I later called my boss and she recognized my voice. I demanded a ransom of N22million. The money was paid to my bank account in Ghana. I dropped the daughter in one hotel in Ghana and told them to pick her up there. I used the money to buy cars which I was selling in Ghana. Nwangwu explained that in 2009 his wife was employed as housemaid to Mr Alfred Edozie and that after just one month, the wife kidnapped one of her boss’s daughter. “My wife just called me one day that I should bring a taxi to the estate that she has kidnapped one of the daughters of her boss. Immediately we took the daughter and passed through Mile 2 and took a drop to Ghana. We called the family of the girls and we made a demand of N15million as ransom, but they paid N12M to my wife’s bank account in Ghana.

We didn’t know that the Interpol were already monitoring us. “When we went to withdraw the money the bank manager first paid her N6m and told her to come back the following day for the remaining ones. The Interpol officials from Ghana cornered my wife and told her that the Nigerian police would soon arrest her. My wife gave the police officer N6m and he took my wife to an hotel in Ghana and later told us to escape. The bank in Ghana closed our account ., That was how we lost the N12m in Ghana,” he said.

Nwangwu said when they moved back to Nigeria his wife delivered and he began to search for a job. “Later I got a job in Abuja as a driver to a retired military officer in 2012. After I and my wife moved to Abuja. One day I just saw policemen who came and arrested me in the presence of my boss.”

Also speaking, the second suspect, his wife said it was easy for her to kidnap because she pretended to be a housemaid and when she is employed after some days or weeks she will kidnap the kids of her employer.

Nigeria witnessed for the first time in grand style, the Nollywood Movies awards, it was a celebration of pomp and pageantry as celebrities and thespians alike graced the occasion.

TV host/ Actor extraordinaire Joseph Benjamin clichéd the Best Actor in a leading Role Award for his role in the Nollywood blockbuster film ‘Tango with me’. Mercy Johnson bagged the same award but in the female category for her role in ‘Weeping Soul’.
Gabriel Afolyan and Nse Ikpe-Etim won the awards for the Best Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role respectively. The former for his role in the Dagrin biopic ‘Ghetto Dreamz’ and the latter for her role in ‘Kiss and Tell’
The night Unveiled the biggest winner as the movie ‘Mirror Boy’ got three nods.
