A pastor and General Overseer of the of the Victorious Sacred Solemn Healing and Deliverance Ministry, located at No. 1, Thomas Alade Avenue, Command area, Ipaja, Lagos, Prophet Oluwaseyi Idowu, who was accused of impregnating two sisters has said he never impregnated the two sisters and was not arrested by anyone.

A national newspaper (not the Tribune) had on Friday reported that his church was invaded by the police to enforce his arrest following allegations that he impregnated the two sisters of his landlord. Idowu told Saturday Tribune by phone on Friday that the allegations were not true as one of the sisters in question is his wife who he married legally and who has borne him two children.

He said he was surprised to read the damaging story, saying his shock was even made worse by the fact that his side of the story was not sought before the publication.

The Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd), said on Friday that the Federal Government would introduce insurance package for soldiers fighting insurgency in the North-East.

Dan-Ali made the disclosure while briefing newsmen shortly after a special Juma’at prayer to mark the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Abuja.

He said that already, there were numerous packages enjoyed by the military as a way of motivating them to ensure the success of the ongoing counter insurgency operation.

"Normally we have packages for the families of the fallen heroes but recently, we are introducing the death insurance which has not been done before.

"It is an additional package by President Muhammadu Buhari to motivate our gallant armed forces and to take care of the families of the fallen heroes," he said.

Two sons of a former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, have asked an Enugu Federal High Court to dismiss a suit filed by a former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ray Nnaji, seeking to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the former governor.

Nnaji filed the suit, which was brought pursuant to Order 34 and 56 (1) of the FHC (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009, the EFCC Act, and the Freedom of Information Act, after what he described as the anti-graft agency’s failure to act on a petition in which he sought the investigation of several allegations of official corruption against Chime.

The former governor’s sons, Nnamdi and Tochukwu, were listed as 4th and 5th respondents in the
suit, which came up for mention on Monday.

After the proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice D. V. Agishi, fixed January 26, 2016, for hearing in the suit.

Six people have been killed in a bomb blast as police searched vehicles at a checkpoint outside the northeast Nigerian city of Damaturu on Monday, police and a witness are now saying.

According to Yobe state police spokesman, Toyin Gbadegesin who talked to AFP: "Eight people including two bombers were killed in the explosion. Two policemen were among the victims,"

The explosion happened at about 1:00 p.m. to the north of the city, which is the capital of Yobe state, on the main road to Maiduguri in neighboring Borno state.

Umar Goni, a witness to the crime said: "A police highway patrol team was searching vehicles just outside the city and an SUV with a foreign number arrived at the spot. The police were uncomfortable, so they decided to search the vehicle. While the search was going on, another SUV arrived. It was stopped for the same search. There was a man and in a woman in the second car. Suddenly, there was a blast from inside the car while two policemen were trying to conduct a search."

A reporter with state-run Yobe Television, who was at the scene shortly after the blast, said the other four who died were motorists. He said: "A handbag belonging to the woman in the car was found and some explosives were recovered and defused."

The newly appointed National security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno as his job cut out to him as it has been revealed by the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima that a member of his family is being held captive by Boko Haram insurgents. President Buhari on Monday named Gen. Monguno and Maj-Gen Tukur Burutai as the NSA and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). They are both indigenes of Borno state.

Shettima, who described the appointment of the duo of Gen. Monguno and Gen. Buratai as “one of the happiest moments in his lifetime”, said: “The fight to overcome insurgents ‘is now or never’ because with the duo, Nigeria now has the best of chances to overcome the challenges of insurgency facing it since 2009.”
