Abacha Loot Recovery - The Federal Government has increased efforts to retrieve about 185 million euro stashed in Liechtenstein banks by late General Sani Abacha.

The government has been endeavouring to recover the money in the last 14 years but the beneficiaries have been using lawful methods to block that effort, according to the Minister of investment, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Briefing journalists yesterday on the margins of the just resolved World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings in Washington DC, United States, the minister said the money was found out throughout the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo and government had taken several steps to double-check it was returned.
She said: “We have been pursuing this cash in Liechtenstein. This is also part of the legacy of the Abacha cash that was taken out of the homeland.

Some school based cult sect in Edo State have come together in an coalition against the spate of kidnappings, equipped robbers and other violent misdeeds in the state.

The cult constituents, belonging to various fraternities in schools across the Edo state converged at the sandy beach resorts, Benin, on Saturday for a summit titled “Interactive calm Summit: scheme for social Cohesion.”

At the summit, the sect, which came simultaneously under the aegis of Rainbow Consolidated Forum said they were not satisfied with the spate of violent crimes and insecurity in Edo state and vowed to fight the position.

Some of the fraternities at the summit encompassed the Green Circuit (a.k.a Maphites), , Norsemen (aka Vikings), Eiye confraternity, Family Fraternity of Nigeria and Avarian Organization of Nigeria.
Governor of Edo state, Adam Oshiomhole, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Oba of Benin, the State Security Service, and the Commandant of the Civil Defense Corps sent representatives to the summit of the cultists.
