INFIDEL
-Sunday Eyitayo Michael

I called her Ene because of my penchant for Idoma girls. She was the prettiest girl I knew. I come from work, frustrated from my boss bully, the annoying Kasuwa traffic, a big bag of broken dreams but her warm arms are wide open to receive me, and I soon forget all those. She is never bored of my complaints, she listens courteously to each word as though Ive not told her a thousand times already and as her ever succulent, fluffy body is pressed tight against mine, I find solace and sleep like an elderly toad, snoring so loud that my neighbors child couldnt sleep. I couldnt stop, either. After all, Ene wasnt complaining and that was all that mattered. Her ears were closest to my mouth, yet she smiles to the rhythm, as if it was some Kiss Daniels song. There I find peace. And I would dream she was a real girl. Ebony, with brown pupils that are shy of the sun, a classic Britain nose and soft lips that tasted like honey but thirsts for mine. We would run around the beach, throwing beach sands and water at each other until our legs fail us and our hearts beats faster than the villages drum. I would then sit back and watch her walk out of the water, mesmerized by her charms. Sometimes, I wake up to find out Ive thrown her far away. And my sorry self would pick her up, clean her and dress her. And she would smile again, holding no grudge.
Then Michael came around to spend a night in my house, I made sure I didnt introduce him to her. He was a legendary womanizer. So I hid her in my wardrobe, though I begged her it was just for the night and that tomorrow I will make up for it. It was for our good after all. She smiled, like she always does. I showed Michael to the room, the leaky roof, the tattered mattress we were going to share. I saw him smirk. I wouldnt blame him though, if we both lay on the mattress, it would be just half of each of us it would contain. We had to sleep that way anyway. It was my longest night as each minute I longed for her touch, her warmth and my dream became vague. When morning came, I woke up, glad that the night was finally over just to find Ene beneath Michael, rumpled, barely clad, dirty and she smiled uncontrollably. I knew I cried, the way I did for Mercy, for Praise, and Jemimah.
Why? I asked Michael, feeling betrayed with tears all over my eyes.
Its just a damn pillow dude he said and looked at me like I was insane. I wasnt. I knew I wasnt. As soon as he left, I threw Ene through the window, she was a bloody infidel, just like Mercy, Praise and Jemimah, just that they were real girls and she wasnt, but cheated still.

Career / 'yahoo Yahoo' And The Death Of Young Nigerian Minds by EyitayoBoSs(m): 11:47am On Oct 20, 2017
‘‘Yahoo Yahoo’ and the Death of Young Nigerian Minds’
-By Sunday Eyitayo Michael
“My friend just bought a range rover”
“Wow, that’s great news. What does he do for a living?”
“Gee” (Gee is a slang name for internet fraud. Or ‘street’, ‘yahoo yahoo’)
“Uhm!”
“He’s into ‘Alibaba’, they are the ones that receive in ‘block’. The other one that bought a house in Lekki is into ‘apartment’. Let God bless my hustle, I know one day this ‘dating’ I’m doing will pay big. I just need the right set of clients”
“Do you feel fulfilled defrauding people? Why not do something more creative or consider hard work that will add value to people’s lives and give you success?”
“Brother, money is fulfillment. My father has been very hardworking for a very long time now and he’s still a poor man, frustrated because of lack of money and freedom”
“Someday, somehow, if he follows the right path, he will find success and die a happy man”
“I don’t want to live to that age and still be hoping that someday I will be successful. Come to Lagos or Benin, etc, you will see young boys of 16, 17, intimidating you with big rides, flaunting wealth and all they do is ‘gee’”
“But I heard the Nigerian police are seriously going around catching people involved”
“Haha! Story. They are just looking for ‘bread’. When you are caught, depending on your level, you pay. They know we make it big, so they charge us accordingly, sometimes N300,000, N100,000 or even N50,000 and you are free to go. But it’s nothing, we make far more”
“On an average, how much do you earn?”
“We earn what no government job can pay, not even oil. ‘Alibaba’, N100 million above, ‘apartment’, over N50million, ‘dating’, over N1million”
This was my conversation with a ‘yahoo’ boy, as they call it, and he’s in no way different from 60-70% of the youths in Nigeria. Internet fraud have become the rave among youth, a fast spreading disease eating deeply into the system, it’s now even the dreams of children. Fathers now support their children to partake and pastors do thanksgivings for them, knowing well, what they do and even organize prayer and fasting so that ‘clients’ pay. I know there is a lot wrong with Nigerian government policies, and the corruptions from above that frustrate so many down trying to work their way up, I know Nigeria has become a very sick cow that we can barely milk, but there are other ways out.
Nigeria now breeds a flock of lazy youths who have decided to kill their creative minds and settle for cheap routes like internet fraud. I don’t know the way out, I’m still searching. I don’t even know how it all started, but we can’t blame the founder of internet or the one so cheerful enough to introduce internet to Nigeria. But one thing I know is that its roots are already so deep that it would take so much effort to uproot it. I also know if we don’t uproot it, someday, somehow, it would ruin us all. But to begin, how do you convince someone who earns about N100 millions by just sitting behind his laptop to stand up, think, work hard and earn less than N100,000?

Career / Learned Helplessness And How It Destroys Our Lives (BIY Series #3) by EyitayoBoSs(m): 6:52am On Sep 23, 2017
Learned helplessness is of all the worst attitude so far, and it is the most common in the world today. We act in this manner often without even realising it. it was first observed by psychologist Martin Selligman, who was deeply interested in studying depression. he conducted some controversial experiments involving two groups of dogs.

GROUP 1
Were placed in an enclosure and were exposed to random electric shocks which could only end after a lever was pressed. in time the dogs learned how to press the levee in order to stop the shocks. the same dogs were moved to a different enclosure, this time, there was no lever to stop the shocks. the escape procedure was different. this time they had to jump through a partition. in this new environment, the dogs first looked for the lever that was in the old environment, when they didn't find it they go creative in time and found the partition and got out.

GROUP 2
A different set of dogs were taken and placed In the first enclosure with the levee but in this case, the lever did not stop the shocks no matter how many times they pressed it. in time, they learned that the shocks could not be stopped so they just lay there and whimpered making no attempt to stop the shocks. they were later moved to the second enclosure (the one with the escape partition) this time the partition was truly a means of escape but unlike the other dogs, these dogs didn't explore the possibility, they just lay there and whimpered when the shocks came.

most of us are like the group 2 dogs, because life never gives us anything on a platter and we have tried before without seeing result, we just lay back and suffer in our poverty not knowing that the possibility we refused to explore might be our chance for success.

Stayed tuned same time next week for more BIY series

Career / 4 Major Attitudes We Must Cultivate To Be Successful (BIY Series #2) by EyitayoBoSs(m): 7:01am On Sep 18, 2017
Our attitude is a major key to opening doors to a successful life. What you say is just 5% of what people actually listen to, the rest of what they listen to is your attitude.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said 'what you do thunders so loudly in my ears, I can't heat what you say'. haven't you noticed that when someone appears calm, focused, bold, we tend to listen to them more than the ones that distract us with all their aggressiveness?
Thomas J Stanley PhD and William D Danko, after about twenty years of studying millionaires across a wide spectrum of industries concluded that, 'the character of the business owner is more important in predicting his level of success than the classification of business'.
Four key attitudes you should develop to be successful are;

1) BE OPTIMISTIC
Martin Seligman did a research and discovered that optimistic people are more successful than similarly talented people with pessimistic attitude. he got to that conclusion after doing some research at a major life insurance company and found that the salespersons who expected to succeed sold 37 percent more than those who didn't.

2) BE HAPPY
Albert Schweitzer said 'success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success.' The happy man succeed where the sad man fails.

3) BE COURAGEOUS
Successful people understand that being courageous always assisted the to the told, cowards almost never get anywhere. Daniel Herzner said, 'when you have a can-do attitude you are giving yourself power and energy to accomplish anything.'

4) BE ACTION ORIENTED
Study after study have shown that the prominent character among people that are promoted faster and get paid more is that they are action oriented. Always be a man of action. Henry Bergson said, 'think like a man of action and act like a man of thought.

Career / Three Major Killers Of Self Belief (BIY Series #1) by EyitayoBoSs(m): 7:51am On Sep 16, 2017
Self belief is a very fragile part of man's psychology and it is usually the first target of success 'predators'. To be successful you have to guard this part of your psychology from;

1) PEOPLE
Keith Harrell the author of attitude is everything said that 'most times people tell is what we can't do because they don't see themselves doing it'. which is true. haven't you noticed that the people that try more to discourage you are the ones that have not done anything for themselves? and we allow what they say hypnotise us and we begin to follow their words blindly without checking our own lives. it was discovered that if a good hypnotic subject is told that he is in the north pole, he will not only shiver and appear to be cold, his body will react as if he were cold and goose pimple will develop. that's what most of us have become, the words of people concerning our abilities have totally hypnotised us.

2) COMPARISON
Maxwell Maltz author of the super informative book, psycho cybernetic said 'this feeling of inferiority comes about for just one reason: we judge and measure ourselves not by our own norm and par but by some other individual norm. when we do this, we always without exception, come out second best, we feel miserable and conclude there is something wrong with us. we are all special in a way and different in so many ways so the moment we begin to compare our lives with others we become miserable. a fish cannot judge itself by its ability to walk on land so instead it will focus on swimming, the moment it chooses to try to imitate the chicken it becomes miserable.

3) SELF DOUBT
William James said ' there's but one cause if human failure and that is lack of faith in his true self' doubt breeds fear and most often you won't do what fear. self doubt freezes your thinking mind and when your acts are not based thoughts, you will definitely fail. to kill self doubt, be bold.
