The bible did call for moderation in all things.

Galatians 5-13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

I agree with you, Physics is abstruse. It is particularly arduous because a lot of imagination is involved. If you can't envision what you are studying you may run mad.
