There are a few common reasons why some Fintech companies fail or start heading to a downfall without realizing, and I’m going to be pointing out two of these mistakes. It can be very easy for a Fintech company to loose sight of some vital laws in the Fintech world due to consistent success over a long period of time.

While your plane is navigating the rough wind, some are getting ready to overcome the storm.
Mind you that every company wants to succeed as well, that’s why you need to always be ready to up your game whenever the need arise.
A Fintech company that have had a mouthful of success overtime can easily fall into these mistakes or even a company that is not so intentional in their approach.


One of the biggest reasons some Fintech companies fail is that their technology doesn't scale well. These companies often build their technology in-house, which can be a big challenge when their customer base is large and diverse. Having a technology that scales well is key if you are working towards a large customer base which is every Fintech company’s dream. These companies also need to be able to quickly adapt to changes in the market, but if their technology is not scalable, this can be very difficult.

Another common reason some Fintech companies fail is that their customer base isn't large or diverse enough. It’s one thing to have a technology that can scale well, it’s another thing to have a diverse and large customer base that is diverse. These companies often focus on a niche market, which can make it difficult to get a large customer base. I’m not saying it’s wrong to niche down even though I wouldn’t give such an advice, I’m only saying it’s going to take a lot more effort in getting a large customer base.

Additionally, these companies often don't have a wide distribution network, which can make it difficult to get their products into people's hands or get project works as well because they are focused on one or two services.

You might have probably read this as a programmer and you’re think, “okay, what does this have to do with me?” Well…., you might end up having your own company in the nearest future or even get the opportunity to work with a team of programmers in a company.

Getting a little knowledge on this for later because you never know what might happen tomorrow isn’t such a bad idea, right?

With this, I would like to say that it’s important as a company to always stay sober to avoid the downfalls that come with getting hit by the storm. The constant change and flexibility of technology is too magical to not always be updated and current with the latest.
A smart programmer knows how to adapt to these changes and grow, than stay and complain about it.

So before you get to do your research on knowing who these individuals are, here are some things you can do to prep yourself up once you get the opportunity to have a close conversation with them.


As a successful fintech programmer, you need to have a few tips up your sleeve. Here are three secret tips I highly recommend you take seriously on your journey of becoming a successful fintech programmer:

1. STAY ORGANIZED.

One of the most important secrets to becoming a successful fintech programmer is staying organized. In order to be successful, you need to have a clear plan for each and every project you work on. This means keeping track of deadlines, tracking progress, and ensuring all necessary files are updated as needed.

A wise man once said, “for every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned!”
This hits different!!
You need to understand how important this is or you will always find yourself burned out before you even start a project work or having deadline issues with clients and so on.

Even if you’re not a programmer reading this, you can agree with me that organizing your life like planning your day on a to-do list can greatly impact your productivity that day!

So my dear programmers, take note of this and thank me later.

2. BE A GOOD LISTENER.

Another key secret to becoming a successful fintech programmer is being a good listener. Not only will this help you build better relationships with your clients, colleagues, friends and family, but it will also help you learn more about the fintech industry and discover new opportunities.

Bernard Baruch once said, “most of the SUCCESSFUL people I have known are the ones who do more listening than talking”

I don’t think I need to say more.

3. BE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO.

One of the most important secrets to becoming a successful fintech programmer is being passionate about what you do. If you are someone who always EXPRESS passion in your work especially when you are with people (clients), you are subconsciously releasing positive energy that will speak volume of interest in working a project better to your clients, and guess what, you will end up realizing that you get more clients to work with you and build long term work relationships with them. This will continue to grow your network and client reach as they will continue to recommend you to their friends.

Some persons are deeply passionate about their work BUT……, they don’t EXPRESS IT!!

Your face needs to tell it without you saying a word about it. Your attention should carry it. Your body language and tone of voice should echo it, and most importantly, your project results should marry it.

If you are more of an introvert, try acting it till you master it.
If you are giving me a “is that not trying to be someone you’re not which means I’m not being myself kind-of-look”, well……….,stay there and make excuses about being such an introvert. It won’t make you some extra bucks and most importantly, you won’t build better relationships with clients and even people at large.

Do you know that knowing a company’s core services automatically tells you if you have found a company to work with or to keep searching?

Once you visit their website, what are the services you see that they offer?
Every smart Fintech company always put their best services at the top of the list.

What you need to do is look at the top six services they offer and check if you fit into any of those category.

It’s important to note that this is not a fact when it comes to service arrangements in Fintech company websites but it can be a non-verbal insight to understanding the strengths of the company regarding their services.

Another thing to check alongside is the results of their past project works.

This is big because it gives you a greater insight to how current the company are, with their project works, how efficient they can deliver, the amount of influence they have and others.


Other questions may be:

* The years of ACTIVE Experience the company has (do your research as well and check their previous result in other project works)
* Their specialty (if they are a company that specializes)
* Get to know if you are working with a team or an individual)

So as a client, working with a Fintech company can be demanding when it comes to getting to know them especially if you intend to work a long term project where you build long term relationship with the company. Though it can be a bit unsettling, it’s always one of the best decisions you have made once you find the right company with the right intention and perfectly fitted service.

A lot of clients tend to be a-bit uncomfortable working with tech companies due to fraud and other relationship related problem which is very normal. They ask a lot of questions as well but sometimes….., these questions can be very irrelevant and I’m here to share two important questions every client should ask alongside getting to know the company they are working with for a project. These questions are:

1. What is your company's mission?
2. What are your company's core services?

Why should you ask this question?

A company without a mission is more like eating a spice-less chicken. (I’m sorry if you’re a vegan reading this, just imagine vegetables ) You are tasting….. nothing. It has so definition. Some will eat it and think it’s something else. Some will question it’s existence since it’s so tasteless. Some people will be confused on what to use it for, and most importantly, a lot of persons will NOT call it chicken!

Having a mission as a company is like finding a FEW right spice for that chicken or meat (whatever you choose to call it), because a mission statement is meant to be short and straight to the point.

By asking a Fintech company this question, you get to fully understand their purpose and a lot more, that will give you an idea on whether to either buy their services or work with them for a project.

So what is a mission statement:
According to Wikipedia, A mission statement is a short statement of why an organization exists, what its overall goal is, identifying the goal of its operations: what kind of product or service it provides, its primary customers or market, and its geographical region of operation.

It simply means a formal summary of the aim and values of a company and it’s not just about writing it down on paper but also taking those words as a compass for your business, which is more important than having one in the first place.

Its important to point out that having a mission statement as a Fintech company is not as important as making that statement a guild and a compass for every decision and influence your company will, and may get to experience.

Some companies have lost their identity by simply forgetting or disregard the mission statement of their company and that is why it should be a Mantra ( a statement or slogan repeated FREQUENTLY)

For example: A restaurant whose mission is to encourage QUALITY MEALS can have the word “QUALITY”, be a word replaced with “Yes” around the company environment.
Instead of saying “yes” to a colleague who asked a question, you say “quality!”
