Question is : Why do some nations insist on keeping their nuclear weapons and replacing their expired nuclear weapons if they do not think that they might use them some day ? Who is more dangerous by the way ? The country that twice used nuclear/atomic weapon on another nation and would occassionally tip/spice up their conventional weapons with nuclear bits or the country that has insisted from day 1 that they only intend to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful use ? Of course Iran's threat to Israel should be taken seriously especially by Israel, but there are fundamental issues that need to be resolved in middle east if fair should be fair. Israel should comply with all the UN resolutions demanding that they withdrew from all occupied territories. All nations have equal inalienable rights to self defence and economic pursuit. No nation should be allowed to choose which nations get what privilege the master nation deems suitable. Face generally thinks that the world would self destruct at some point anyway unless all nations disarm themselves of their nuclear arsenal and that is not about to happen in a hurry. |

Afam, I am sure you are quite capable of holding your own, but let express my support for your opinion. Your anology of the neighbours and guns truly reflects the situation. Israel is believed to have nuclear capabilities. Who is asking them to dismantle ? During their war with Hebolah (an organisation which the whole world knows is at loggerheads with the established Lebanese govt.) They attacked with nuclear tipped bombs and also promised to send Lebanon back in time in civilization. Destroyed human lives at will and U.S refused to call for a truce and with a tongue in cheek supplied them with more weapons while accusing Iran of arming Hezbolah. Mind you, I am not denying Israel's right to self defence but stressing that all nations have equal inalienable right to self defence. Israeli/Lebanese story is too long and should be left for another day. Back to Afam's neighbour. The police (U.N or US in this case) cannot tell Afam (Iran, DPRK,Nigeria etc) not to have a gun while they encourage his neighbour (Israel, US, UK, China, India etc) to acquire different types of guns and even exchange technology and intelligence with him on to out do Afam. That is lopsided justice. The middle east and indeed the whole world would not be safer if there is nuclear arm race. Every nation should disarm if not those that aspire to have them should have them as a deterent. Since India and Pakistan became convinced of each others military capabilities they have chilled down in their Kashmir Skirmishes. Talking about the land that Iran occupies illegally, do you know how many U.N resolutions Israel has refused to heed on occupied territories ? Occupation of other people's land is wrong therefore all nations engaged in such acts should withdraw and that includes Israel. |
Hi Chidi, Of course I do look at other people's view points. I do not necessarily accept all they say just like they are bound to disagree with what I say at times but I surely do get educated by all. I wasn't really talking about the military might of Iran or their internal affairs. If I was to draw a parallel comparison, I would also tell you that American foreign reserve and budget deficit have headed the other way since GB's administration and especially since his "go get 'em wars" The point I was making was that "all animals are equal and none are more equal than the others". Same standards should be applied in dealing with all nations. Middle east was more stable during Clinton's era . Israel and Palesting made good progress towards peace during Clinton because he encouraged talk not fight. Iran is being bullied by the US especially. It would be wrong for you to assume that the UN security council approved the war in Iraq. France made it clear that they would veto such move, therefore US decided to go it alone and dragged along some other poodle nations. UN Security council did not approve the invasion. Iraq was actually a sitting duck by the time it was hit, because they had been forced to dismanstle their war machinary long before the invasion. That is not to say that they would have defeated America, but at least they would have been in a position to throw stone back in return for a bullet. Do you not think that any right thinking nation would have learnt from Iraqi experience ? North Korean case is intersting and goes to show that diplomacy rules over military might any day. The Koreans were in a position to negociate their deal based on their military (maybe perceived) capability. Look at their deal again and you would notice that their deal is like "bring first before I give" (conditional) in their favour. |
This is really very simple. Abacha tried to make believe he was fighting corruption with all the failed banks and etc. We now know otherwise. Like my people will say "someone detroys the bush at night but comes in the day to ask who done it". EFCC is an institution that is worth keeping. The idea is a sound one and I am all for it, but the integrity should be beyond doubt. Ribadu should declare his assets to dispel any suspicions about his person. With such declaration, he would have the full force of even more Nigerians behind him. Like BibB1 said, it is not about Kalu but for Nigeria. |
Hi Afam, Good to hear from you again. I joined this forum a coupla days ago. How are you ? Regards, Face. |
In my opinion, the major problem/danger that the world faces is a United States/Allies that would have WMD's and allied technologies while their "enemies" are denied same rights. Everybody or no one should be allowed to have nuclear technologies. The Bush administration that refuses to speak with the "axis of evil" recently spoke with North Korea. Why ? Because they cannot go bombing Korea as they may find a way of deploying their Nuclear weapons to American Soil. Why should we imagine that nuclear weapons are safe in someboby's hand and not in another's ? All it will take is for a Hitler to arise from any of the so called safe owners and use them at will. Some people assume that while something is good for them, that others do not have the right to aspire to have same. The US refused to be a part of the ban on nuclear proliferation in space, yet they had the guts to complain when China shut down a satelite from space. The U.S should not be allowed to ride rough shod over everyone else. In answer to your questions: Yes, Iran is being bullied. Yes, Iran has the right to nuclear technology. (Even according to international laws which only bans the development of nuclear weapons). Yes, under George Bush , the U.S threat of Military Action is realistic (unless stopped by Democrats) The effect of military action against Iran would be another Iraq. The world would move closer to self destruction as catalysed by the US. I dont think the American citizens are ready for another war, but GB is ready to go get 'em. It is absolute rubbish to refuse to dialogue with your enemies. That is a bully's tactics and will not work. History has shown that warring parties end up resolving their conflict round the table. Of course, diplomacy on equal terms would resolve the conflict. |
People make me laugh when they try to justify the census result based on the premise that muslims marry up to four wifes. Are they telling me that most muslims in Nigeria have 4 wives ? In any case, if the male/female ratio is approximately 1:1, does it not follow that for every man that marries 4 wives in a muslim community, that three other dudes dont get married at all, which means that only a quater of men in such communities are potentially involved in active procreation? A beg tell me anoda tin jare. |
Iyke-D, Having read your assertion that most Nigerians are unintelligent , I was wandering which class you would place yourself. The intelligent or the unintelligent, please tell us. ![]() |
Of course Obj is hanging over Atiku like the sword of damocles barring his immunity. They both need an impartial judge and Atiku wont be on equal footing as Obj if he should give his shield to Obj. Article 6 of the Human Right laws guarantees everyone's right to a fair trial. Atiku has only got a couple of weeks to enjoy his immunity and if we can wait endlessly to bring other thieves to book, surely we can wait a few weeks to bring Atiku to justice. Obasanjo is corruption itself and is in no position to determine who is corrupt and who is not. EFCC should be independent of anybody especially the presidency. The act establishing EFCC should be reviewed with commitees in the Senate and House or a Code of Conduct Bureau to monitor their perfomance. All indicted people should ultimately end up in courts where the burden of proof should rest on the EFCC to get their conviction. Indictments are only accusations and are not enough to assume that someone is guilty. Only a court can make that pronouncement as guaranteed by human right laws. |
Verdicts are arrived at by Judges based on what the law says and not what it ought to be. Gani of all people should know this. The judges made it clear that Atiku's allegiance is to the people/constitution of FRN and not to party or Obasanjo and vice versa. On the question that Gani raised regarding the death of a president with a VP from a different party, who then goes ahead to appoint a vice from his new party on becomming the new president. Nigerians do not care which party the president comes from as long as he works for them and with their interests at heart. In any case, we have the national assembly to check and ballance his actions while in office. While it may be morally wrong for Atiku to remain in a govt he castigates, it makes sense that he becomes the "enemy from within" to escape the vindictive hands of Obj. Atiku is corrupt in my opinion, but his recalcitrance to bowing to Obj's tyranny has thrown up some issues which are better dealt with now than in the future. I stand with him in his fight for democracy and against evil. Iron sharpens iron. Hopefully we will get a president that will bring both men to justice when the time comes. |
Dat one na news? u sure say dem no mean $380 Trillion ? A beg tell me anoda tin. While individual pockets are bursting at the seams, the rest of us are wallowing in abject poverty. Every thing is wrong in our society. Water, electricity, energy/fuel, inflation, roads, decent housing, healthcare, etc etc are all lacking in our Nigeria. This is the longest period we have enjoyed (?) democracy in Nigeria, yet things are worse than they were b4 1999. Just today, I read with a broken heart about a place in Lagos where people get pregnant as a business. With all the money we have lost to those thieves, Nigeria could have had very good and reliable infrastructure and a sound social security system for the needy and elderly. |
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kalu likes diverting attention rather than addressing real issues. Once upon a time he challenged Ribadu to probe OBJ and when asked to come forward with evidence of his claims he refused. He will go to jail after leaving office its that simple. A man who lacks focus like Orji Kalu should have no place in our national debate. Jail awaits him. ----------McKren -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr Kalu is not diverting attention from any issues. His challenge to Ribadu is a valid one, which any defence lawer would pose to the prosection. Simply put, he has challenged Ribadu's credibility which may determine the admisibility in court of any evidence brought forward by Ribadu and his team. Is there a question mark on Ribadu's character ? Does Mr Kalu have any evidence to that fact ? I believe that Mr Ribadu should declare his assets to show the world that he has no skeleton in his own cupboard and Mr Kalu should bring forward any evidence to contradict such declaration if he has any. On the issue of indictment. Indictment is what it is i.e accusation. The burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove the case in a court of law. Any other thing may be a violation of one's human rights. I know that some people are immuned from trial whilst in office, but they must leave office at some point. If we are in a hurry to get justice whilst they are in office, the relevant section of the constitution must be amended to allow prosecution whilst in office. |
