Investment / Blackrock To Acquire Adebayo Ogunlesi’s Global Infrastructure Partners ($12.5b) by FAKKEH: 7:24pm On Jan 12 |
BlackRock to acquire Adebayo Ogunlesi’s Global Infrastructure Partners for $12.5 billion The deal will also substantially boost the $10 trillion money manager’s footprint in alternative assets. BlackRock Inc. is set to acquire Global Infrastructure Partners, owned by Nigerian investment banker Adebayo Ogunlesi, for over $12.5 billion in cash and stock, Financial Times reported on Friday. According to the international business newspaper, BlackRock’s acquisition of GIP, with assets worth $106 billion under management, would make it the world’s second-largest infrastructure manager after Macquarie and bolster the leadership of its alternative business. The deal will also substantially boost the $10 trillion money manager’s footprint in alternative assets and shake up the landscape for private market investing. With the purchase, BlackRock will take over GIP’s prime assets, such as Sydney and London Gatwick airports, the Port of Melbourne and the Suez water group, extensive green energy holdings and a stake in a big shale oil pipeline. BlackRock also agreed to pay $3 billion in cash and 12mn of its shares to GIP’s chair, Mr Ogunlesi, and five other founders, while 7mn of the shares will be handed over at closing, and the remaining 5mn will be due in five years. Founder of BlackRock, Larry Fink, and its president, Rob Kapito, announced the purchase in a memo to its employees, explaining that “The global need for infrastructure combined with high deficits constraining government spending creates an unprecedented opportunity for private capital to invest in infrastructure.” In a statement about the acquisition, Mr Ogunlesi, expected to resign as the lead director of Goldman Sachs and join BlackRock’s global executive committee and board, said, “We are convinced that together we can create the world’s premier infrastructure investment firm.” Mr Ogunlesi had worked with Fink at Credit Suisse in the 1980s and later rose to head the investment banking at the defunct Swiss group before he established GIP in 2006. Health / Most Obese Countries In The World ! (pictures) by FAKKEH: 9:08am On Dec 05, 2023 |
Introduction Obesity is a global health concern affecting millions of people worldwide, with some countries experiencing higher obesity rates than others. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the most obese countries are primarily located in the Pacific and the Middle East. The Pacific island nations of Nauru, Cook Islands, and Palau have the highest rates of obesity, with over 30% of their populations being classified as obese. In the Middle East, countries such as Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia also have high obesity rates, with over 25% of their populations being obese. The high obesity rates in these countries can be attributed to a combination of factors, including changes in diet and lifestyle, as well as socioeconomic and cultural factors. The availability of cheap, processed foods and the adoption of sedentary lifestyles have contributed to the rise in obesity rates globally. In addition, cultural beliefs and practices around food and physical activity may also play a role in contributing to obesity rates in some countries. Globally, the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled since 1980, with an estimated 1.9 billion adults being classified as overweight, and over 650 million of them being classified as obese. The global obesity prevalence average is around 13%, while the global median body mass index (BMI) is 24.1. The high rates of obesity can have significant health consequences, including an increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. There are also differences in obesity rates between men and women globally, with women having higher rates of obesity than men. In 2016, the global prevalence of obesity in women was 15%, while for men it was 11%. These differences can be influenced by a variety of factors, including cultural norms around body size and gender roles, as well as differences in diet and physical activity levels. Obesity is not just a problem for adults, as children and adolescents are also at risk. In 2016, an estimated 41 million children under the age of five were classified as overweight or obese. Childhood obesity can have both immediate and long-term health consequences, including an increased risk of developing chronic diseases later in life. The following links shows the list of countries with obese people, our dear country Nigeria is number 140 on the list. https://wisevoter.com/country-rankings/most-obese-countries/
