Politics › Payment Of N5,000 To Unemployed Youths Begins Next Year —FG by farano(op): 9:34am On Nov 26, 2015 |
ABUJA — The All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government, yesterday, said the payment of the N5,000 stipend to the unemployed Nigerian youths will commence next year. It regretted that the payment could not take off immediately because it was not included in this year’s budget. Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr Solomon Dalong, revealed this yesterday in Abuja when he paid a condolence visit to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the national secretariat in Abuja on the demise of Prince Abubakar Audu, the late governorship candidate of the party in Kogi State election. Dalong, who spoke with journalists, assured that APC government would also create more jobs to fulfill its campaign promises. The party, during the electioneering campaigns, had pledged to pay N5000 stipend to unemployed youths monthly. Said he: “I would want the youths to understand that every promise must be backed up by budgetary provision and our promise to pay N5000 is not contained in the 2015 budget. So, definitely, it is going to begin in 2016 as we have made budgetary allocations for that. “We are committed to the campaign promises of creating jobs, providing wealth creation and combat poverty. We have embedded in our manifesto things that we are translating to reality. “We are busy reviewing some of the youth empowerment programmes that are ongoing, to ensure that they are more viable and people oriented. We are also looking at the possibility of realigning some of them to our vision so that in the final analysis, it can add value to the people”. The minister also said that he would soon convene a stakeholders meeting to help re-orientate the Nigerian youths. In his remarks earlier, the National Chairman of APC, Chief Oyegun, expressed optimism in the performance of Dalong as Youths and Sports minister. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/payment-of-n5000-to-unemployed-youths-begins-next-year-fg/ |

The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has faulted reports claiming that over 500 Nigerians were deported from the United Kingdom on Wednesday. The British Broadcasting Corporation had reported earlier that a plane conveying about 500 Nigerian deportees from the UK had landed at the MMIA. The report quoted some of the deportees as saying that they were not happy to come back.
Reacting, spokesperson of the NIS, Mr. Ekpedeme King stated that the United Kingdom Government on Wednesday deported only 48 Nigerians over immigration related offences and not 500 as widely reported.
“Some of them have overstayed their visa,” King said. The federal government had recently expressed concern over the UK’s plan to deport 29,000 Nigerians, and has insisted that due process be followed before its citizens are being removed from the UK. But a top immigration officials at MMIA, who spoke to newsmen, said the 48 deportees had nothing to do with the 29,000 Nigerians that the UK was planning to deport back into the country. http://dailypost.ng/2015/11/25/only-48-nigerians-were-deported-from-uk-not-500-nis/ |
Family › ‘I Haven’t Heard From My Husband Since He Got A Job In Owerri 10 Years Ago’ by farano(op): 3:49am On Nov 10, 2015 |
A 39-year-old woman, Bose Ayinde, has asked an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve her 18-year-old marriage with her husband, Nureni, accusing him of abandoning her and children for 10 years, after getting a job in Owerri. Bose told the court that all efforts to reach her husband proved abortive and that she had been the one paying the house rent and children school fees since his disappearance. The petitioner said since her husband stopped communicating with her 10 years ago, he neither called to ask for the children’s well-being nor visited. She said: “My husband abandoned me and the children after he got a job in Owerri 12 years ago. He stopped calling me 10 years ago". All efforts to reach him proved abortive. Testifying before the court’s President, Mr. Adegboyega Omilola, Bose accused her husband, who was not in court, of lack of care. She added that whenever she goes to husband’s parents in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for assistance, they would tell her to “wait your husband will soon come.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/i-havent-heard-from-my-husband-since-he-got-a-job-in-owerri-10-years-ago/ |
Sports › World Champions, Eaglets Storm Abuja by farano(op): 1:59am On Nov 10, 2015 |
They went, saw and conquered all their foes at the World Cup in Chile and now they are set for a triumphant return home after rewriting the history books at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which ended in the wee hours of yesterday at Vina Del Mar.
For the Golden Eaglets, five-time champions of the cadet tournament, this must certainly feel like a special moment as their unprecedented triumph in Chile, which culminated in the 2-0 defeat of Mali in the final at Vina Del Mar, has undoubtedly turned them into the beautiful bride as they make the majestic return to Abuja. Not given much chance to succeed in Chile, especially after losing 2-1 to Croatia in the final group A match, the Eaglets, defied all odds standing in their path to record their fifth title triumph, creating daylight between themselves and their closest rivals in terms of trophy haul, Brazil, who have bagged the title thrice. And after enduring all the rigours and hassles in Chile, it is time to head home and while what awaits the world champions in Abuja is left to be imagined but according to the Nigeria Football Federation, the victorious Eaglets will return home aboard an Emirates Airline flight..
The coach Emmanuel Amuneke-led side, who have continued to court endless praises from Nigerians, flew out of Santiago yesterday to Buenos Aires, from where they will connect a flight to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. They will spend tonight in Dubai, before embarking on the triumphant journey to Abuja tomorrow, where an elaborate red carpet will be laid by the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF), who see this achievement as a watershed in the history of Nigerian football. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/world-champions-eaglets-storm-abuja/ |

The mother of one who is staging a come back after child delivery, said she has not had it all rosy in the music industry as she has had one or two embarrassing moments. Speaking with Vanguard, the beautiful singer explained how Banky W drew her attention to a certain part of her body that was exposed. She said, ”My dress for my stage performance at 2face’s album launch arrived very late. Literally, it came in 5 minutes before I was supposed to mount the stage. “I didn’t have time to try it on before my performance. The MC announced: ‘Next on stage is rising star, Tiwa Savage.’ So I quickly put it on. As soon as I was walking up stage, the zip ripped at the back and I didn’t even realise. “Banky saw it and was like ‘Oh my God! Your whole back is opened. “I was really embarrassed; just like he saw me naked” Tiwa said, adding that they tried to pin her up but all the while the band and everybody was on stage.
“I had to go back, change into something that was not planned. It was quite embarrassing,” she noted. http://dailypost.ng/2015/11/08/i-was-embarrassed-when-banky-w-saw-me-naked-tiwa-savage/ |

Business › BVN Deadline: 26m Bank Accounts To Be Frozen by farano(op): 1:50am On Oct 30, 2015 |
https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/BVN.jpg
Barely 24 hours to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, less than half of the 52 million bank customers have been registered, a development that may have caused discomfort in the banking industry. Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had said no extension would be made while non-registered bank customers would be barred from accessing their money or any transaction in their account after tomorrow.
About 26 million bank customers would be affected by the shut- out. An official of the apex bank told Vanguard yesterday that the registration window would still be opened after tomorrow, but unregistered customers would not be allowed access to their accounts. The official, who claimed that the exact figures of registered bank customers would not be ready until next week, however lamented that “less than half of total bank customers have been captured as at Monday this week. “Field reports show that there has been increased surge in the number of registrations per day since last week, but it is clear that we may not exceed 50 percent by the deadline.”
Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Jibril Aku, had said last month that bank customers who fail to meet the October 31 deadline to enroll on the BVN network will have their accounts frozen. Aku, who spoke at the end of the 324th meeting of the bankers’ committee in Lagos, said there was no going back on the new deadline set by CBN for customers to obtain their BVN. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/bvn-deadline-26m-bank-accounts-to-be-frozen/ |

https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Fuel.jpg?fb3601
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Wednesday announced that it has taken steps to eliminate the noticeable fuel queues in some major cities in the Northern axis. The Corporation in a release stated that within the last 48 hours, petrol products to most major cities across the country especially in the Northern part of the country has been increased considerably to accommodate some noticeable shock in the system as a result of the growing panic demand for petroleum products. "We can confirm that an additional daily supply of 306 trucks of PMS which is the equivalent of over 10 million litres of petrol has been injected to provide extra daily supply to Kano, Minna, Suleja/Abuja, Gusau, Katsina as well as Kaduna,’’ the NNPC stated.
The NNPC also noted that similar steps had been taken to consolidate the prevailing stable fuel supply situation in the Gombe, Bauchi, Jos, Yola and Maiduguri axis. NNPC advised members of the public to refrain from panic purchase of petroleum products, noting that there was enough products in store to satisfy demand. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/28/nnpc-confirms-fuel-scarcity-in-northern-states-supplies-10-million-litres-daily/ |

Scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol, hit Lagos State on Wednesday as long queue of vehicles were seen at various filling stations.
DAILY POST observed that while some of the independent marketer claimed that petrol was not available for sale, some that were selling sold the product at the rate of N120 per litre rather than the official pump price of N87. When DAILY POST visited some filling stations at Iyana-Ejigbo area on Wednesday, they were under lock and keys while others were selling at high price. When this reporter tried to inquire from one of the fuel attendants, she simply replied, ‘go and ask Buhari’. Speaking with DAILY POST, a motorcyclist, who gave his name as Oriade complained bitterly that he managed to buy five litres from black marketers for N700.
“Bro, I just bought five litres for N700 around Chris Idowu. This sudden fuel scarcity is annoying. I have gone to all the filling stations around Ejigbo here but no one is selling. Even the people selling are killing us with price, aside the queue”, she said. Oriade called on the federal government to do something about it before it went out of control. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/28/fuel-scarcity-hits-lagos-litre-goes-for-120/ |

The fourty-seven (47) suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect who were in June 28, 2015 brought into the medium security prison in Ekwulobia, Aguata local government area of Anambra State, have been taken away from the state, Vanguard reports. It was reported that the insurgents were removed on Tuesday night and taken to an unknown destination amid tight security. A source said "definitely they (Boko Haram members) have been taken out of Anambra State." This development came weeks after protests by traders in all the major towns in Anambra State trailed the presence of the Boko Haram suspects soon after they were brought into the state, although calm eventually returned.
The newspaper’s visit to prison facility yesterday showed that the heavy security presence that was mounted shortly after the suspects were brought to the town has relaxed, as the snipers that usually sat atop a structure at the prison were not seen on their duty post. The gate of the prison was reportedly open, unlike what the situation had been the case for the past three months. http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/28/relief-as-fg-finally-relocates-boko-haram-detainees-from-ekwulobia/ |

https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Queen-Nwokoye.jpg?3ecb36
There is an ongoing controversy between Nollywood actresses, Queen Nwokoye and Rachel Okonkwo over movie roles. Nigerianfilms.com reports that over the weekend, an unnamed top producer called Rachel Okonkwo to play the lead in his movie while foremost actress Queen played the sub-lead/supporting actress.
Reports claim all hell broke loose when the controversial thespian, Miss Queen, allegedly walked into the set and discovered the lady she was playing supporting actress with was her junior in the industry, Rachel. She reportedly left the set, saying she can never play under the starlet, that she was expecting to see the likes of Genevieve or Omotola and not Rachel who just got famous like ‘last week’, as she allegedly put it. She, however, entered into her car and reportedly drove off. Although, reports further revealed that the producer later resolved that Queen plays the lead while Rachel plays the supporting actress, the latter who heard the news was devastated as she refused to come on set and play a supporting role under Queen. According to her, she said she can never act under Queen. However, attempts to reach Rachel reportedly proved abortive.
