Agriculture / My Landmark In The Fish Farming Industry - Mayowa Durosinmi-Etti. by FarmersWealth(m): 1:47am On Jan 24, 2020
MY LANDMARK IN THE FISH FARMING INDUSTRY

I'm 31 and in the last one decade I have committed myself to nothing than creating a pathway for others to thread in the farming industry.

Last year I met an older guy on this space, he saw one of my tutorial video on catfish farming and reach out to me via whatsapp.

Mr Prudence is a Burundian (a Portuguese speaking country in the East of Africa), but based in South Africa. He is tech savvy and an enterpreneur to the core.

We discussed so many things related to integrating Agric and tech for African to utilize for personal development and business sustainable goals.

Earlier 2019, he told me he wanted to venture in Pig farming but would prefered citing it in his country home, Burundi.

With proper guidelines from me and other informating aids via whatsapp chatting, he was able to set up his largescale PIG FARM in Burundi. This occured in August 2019.

He started off with 50 exotic pig weaners in a 200 capacity Piggery facilities.

He reach out to me in October 2019 with an appreciation note, he told me he would like to set up and host a website for my brand at his cost.

I bought the domain name but he host and set up the website for me at no cost.

My brand used to be #farmerswealthnigeria but with this gratitude from a Burundian, I removed the Nigeria and named it #farmerswealth, so it could sound accomodating to everyone around the Globe.

#farmerswealth is an online agrobusiness course catalogue. It was launched in November 2019 and over 260 Africans have a taken a course or two to better the prospects of their farm and intending goals.

Prior to this, he had reach out to me in August 2019 that he would like to extends his venture by setting up a fish farm in Burundi.

I said that's cool, I'm always available as a resource person anytime he need my services.

He said the only challenge he would be having is how to get the fish feeds and other facilities as he would be the first person to raise fish commercially in the whole of Burundi.

I asked him hillariously, do the people don't eat fish? He said they do but depends solely on the proceeds from the local streams and rivers which is not always certain and as a result fish is very expensive in Burundi.

Unlike poultry and other livestocks feed that always comes in mash, fish feeds do comes in pelet and this do makes it more costlier as 80% of the farmers can't afford the cost of a feed pelleting machine.

The feed ingredients consist of the local raw agricultural materials that can be easily source around but the problem is how to produce it into pellets without the use of machine.

I'm a fish farmer myself in Nigeria and I depends solely on the expensive factory processed feeds. I know the materials and how to formulate fish feed but I can't afford the pelleting machine.

When Mr Prudence reach out to me on this, my thought was how can I create a solution to this problem of fish farmers in Africa.

On October 2019, I brought out N20,000 from my personal purse. I went to a nearby feedmills, bought some feed ingredients with the aim to experiment on how to produce fish feed without the use of pelleting machine.

Thanks goodness! I have a fish farm with thousands of fish I can experiment with. I hop on youtube to search for solutions also search for journals but couldn't get any tangible resources.

I experiment different kind of methods from hand rolling (this would take eternity to pellet 15kg of feed) to baking and now I found a solution that is more effective, stress free than a pelleting machine itself.

The structural texture is in a cubic form unlike the usual circular or cylindric form. This looks unique to the fish and they are always wanting to savour it at anytime, anyday.

I got the experiment right last year October and uptill now I have not bought any single factory made fish feed for my adult fish.

All I do is go to the feedmill or market to buy the dried feed materials such as maize, soyabean meal, palm kernel cake, groudnut cake etc, and use the roasted fish and chicken intestines as animal protein source.

I'll mix all together in a formulated ration, take it to the local millers and bring it to my farm to produce the finished pellets without the use of pelleting machine.

This is a relieved to me and other small and medium scale farmers in Africa. You can now sit down anywhere to produce your fish feed without the use of pelleting machine.

It has also help me reduced the cost of feeding drastically as I normally buy the factory made pellets feeds within the range of N5500 to N6500.

But now I can successfully produced 15kg (40% crude protein) feed at just the range of N3500 to N4000 depending on the current cost of feed materials in the open market.

I have written a comprehensive course on this research and uploaded with lesson slides, pdf files and practical videos on #farmerwealthng

If interested kindly click this link to participate http://farmerswealthng.com/courses/fish-feed-formulation-and-how-to-produce-pellets-without-the-use-of-machine/

My next project will on how to produce the African catfish fingerlings without the use of the expensive artificial hormone.

This project is in existence but I'll throw more light to it in a business way so African fish farmers can greatly benefit.

Agriculture / How to produce catfish feed pelets without the use of pelleting machine by FarmersWealth(m): 1:12am On Jan 24, 2020
COURSE REVIEW

Fish Feed Formulation and Manual Pellet Production

Catfish farming is highly profitable but the limiting factor to this is feeding which takes almost 80% of the budget.

All the readilly available feeds in the market are either foreign or factory made through the use of highly sophisticated pelleting machines.

Unlike poultry that can take blended or mashed feeds from locally source ingredients, fish will not be able to digest mashed feeds hence it is recommended to powder and pellet their feeds for easy pick up and digestibility.

We have all these feed ingredients around us but the problem is how to make it into pellets form. There are pellet machine but it is not affordable to small scale farmers.

This course will train you how to formulate your feed from locally source materials.

You will also learn how to produce your feeds into pellets without the use of machine.

What this implies is that, you can easily buy your feed materials and produce it yourself without the use of pelleting machine.

This saves cost and helps you maximize your profit.

One reason why some people have a problem finding a good job is that they spend too much time applying and searching for jobs and end up neglecting something even more important developing the right skill set with relevant training.
This much was emphasised by the Sola Adekoya, the CEO of Konga, Nigeria’s leading eCommerce website, during an interview with Jobberman shortly after the company was ranked 10th on the list of Jobberman Best 100 Companies to Work For in Nigeria, in 2016 .
In this interview, Adekoya spoke about the Konga culture and how it attracts talent within the Nigerian corporate scene.
Konga, according to its CEO, places a very strong value on having an open-door policy within the establishment. He explained how the company encourages openness and transparency in its communication policy between employees and management.
The company encourages employees to express themselves as this fosters performance and job satisfaction. The brand also rides on the passion and energy of its employees and encourages them to create their own path.
To all my fellow corps members, I urge you all to seize this golden opportunity of the time and chances we have right now. Let's invest this our one year time to invest on something tangible and worthwhile.
We are all talented in various areas I.e. ICT, Engineering, Medicine, Fashion, Entertainment, Farming, e.t.c. Let's seized this opportunity to improve ourselves better by obtaining series of professional trainings and certification in our various fields to give over thousands of competitors.

Agriculture / Etiquetes Of A Good Catfish Farmer: A Handy Info To Successful Catfish Farming. by FarmersWealth(m): 12:50am On Jun 27, 2017
Fish farming is all about: Passion, Ideas and Capital.
1. The passion keeps u going even when it seems u're going all wrong. As a beginner, u will definilately have some shortcomings. At first do it for love, start small by rearing ur fish as a pet before venturing into larger scale. This will give u insight on fish behaviours as well as how the fish relates with its aquatic environment, foods and environmental pollution.
2. The ideas keeps u well informed. Fish farming is only for the experts, it is not for any dick and harry. To survived in the biz u must get wide ideas and experience, visit nearby farms, meet experts, and consults the professionals. If possible make a quick market survey, to know about price of fresh and smoked fish of all size.
3. Capital is the main thing, the source must be constant and adequate. Fish farming is not for the 'micer', the more you spend, the more you maximize profit. But in some situations, the less you spend the more u marginalized profit with other competitors. But this is with a great skills and ideas, by improvising alot of things and cutting cost by venturing into un-convectional natural foods. In leiu of these the more ideas, innovative, and innitiatives, the less you spend and the more you maximize profit and vice versa.
I wish you all goodluck in your ventures. Regards Tel: 07084830615, 08068447729 for free consultation and training.

Agriculture / Experts Urge Catfish Farmers To Obey Feed Standards by FarmersWealth(m): 5:42pm On Jun 26, 2017
In response to recent health concerns surrounding consumption of catfish, the Council of Fellows, CoF, of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria, FISON, has admonished its members on the need to set standards of feeds in the industry. Making the call in Lagos, the Society said that even though the recent reports on ‘the catfish bad fats’ is a myth and propaganda to hinder local production, steps still needed to be taken for public assurance. They maintained that if there were standard of feed in the country, the issue of the catfish bad oil wouldn’t exist because it would have served as a regulatory mechanism in the industry. The Executives, who argued that there hasn’t been any evidence of any reported case of catfish consumption linked to all the raised health concerns, noted that focus should rather be on imported frozen fish as various analyses they have fallen below the recommended levels by the World Health Organisation. Meanwhile Secretary of CoF of FISON, Mr. R Akande in his presentation explained that although catfish oils contain saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, it is also a rich source of omega-3 and omega-6 which is balance of the essential fatty acids critical to healthy living Akande further said while omega-6 has potential to promote inflammation, it only does so in response to the amount of omega-3 received by the body, hence any reaction by the two depends on the ratio. However, the President of FISON, Dr Olajide Ayinla remarked that stakeholders in the business must be prepared to open themselves for auditing to show what they have been involved in. “We must continue to improve on our practices and we are ready to even contribute financially towards reaching it,” because by providing best practices like the body of water, standards of feeds and general environmental hygiene which affects the fish, we can be sure we are feeding consumers in the right direction. The FISON boss said with all these attempts, the level of catfish export currently at $60 million as against the $800 million of imported frozen fish would be improved.
